Ida Joyce Barker was born on 29 November 1934 in Mineola, Long Island.
In January 1950, Joyce started to attend the School of Performing Arts in New York.
One of her first roles was as a singer for the St. John Terrell's Music Circus in Lambertville, New Jersey.
Between June and October 1953, Joyce acted in four different plays:
