A childhood passion for the classic Universal monsters, coupled with a
love of the fine arts led Crist Ballas toward the rather unconventional
study of makeup. After many years of honing his skills, he further
refined his make-up techniques under the tutelage of the legendary Dick
Smith. He continues to be an innovator in his field, and is known for
his work in natural, beauty and ultra-realistic character makeups.
As owner and supervisor of Metamorphosis Make-Up Artistry, based out of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ballas has enjoyed a diverse and challenging career in the industry over the past 30 years. Additionally Crist also brings an intrinsic affinity for the acting process, and feels honored to be a part of creating a character and helping an actor realize their full potential. In 2009, Ballas was part of the Academy Award winning makeup team for Star Trek, and in 2011, he received his first Emmy in recognition of his work for a MN Twins campaign.
