Spent her retirement living in a thatched cottage in the Hampshire countryside, having Alec and Merula Guinness as her neighbors.

Her husband, Cecil Day-Lewis, wrote several mystery novels and movie scripts under the pen name "Nicholas Blake." Under his real name, he was a famous poet and served as England's Poet Laureate from 1968 until his death in 1972.
