The 11th annual Action Icon Awards luncheon, celebrating pioneering stuntwomen and action-oriented female trailblazers, will be held Oct. 16 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The event benefits Diamond in the Raw, a non-profit organization devoted to empowering and transforming the lives of foster care and at-risk teenage girls.

Hosted by broadcast journalist Roqui Theus and comic Jesus Sepulveda, the awards show is presented by La Faye Baker, veteran stunt performer, executive producer and Diamond in the Raw founder, in conjunction with executive producer Wendy Wheaton of Tinseltown Productions.

“The ceremony honors entertainment professionals, women who dare to be different, and the unsung heroines behind the scenes – stuntwomen,” Baker said. “The ceremony will put action-oriented women at the forefront, creating life-changing opportunities for women, especially those of color.”

SAG-AFTRA leaders are being pressed to respond to stunt performers allegations of racism, nepotism, intimidation and slander.

The issue arose due to an open letter sent Wednesday on behalf of stunt performers who are Bipoc, women, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. Signees asserted that their talents are overlooked, denied and discredited, professional opportunities foreclosed and careers foreshortened.

“We have watched from the outside as white stunt performers are painted down, suited/helmeted or men wigged in a grotesque simulation of those of us denied employment,” they said. “Modern-day blackface is Hollywood’s shameful secret. We’ve been taunted, ostracized, harassed and threatened simply for showing up or speaking up. We have been shut down, shut up and shut out for far too long.

In response, the performers union said, “SAG-AFTRA stands in solidarity with performers whose opportunities to work in stunt roles have been denied or limited because of bias against women,...

Directed by Chris Columbus, Pixels will definitely take many of us back to an era that once seemed new and exciting, but now appears as old as the Civil War.

Starting with a kid zooming through his neighborhood on bike while Cheap Trick blazes on the soundtrack, I was immediately hooked: The year is 1982. Actually, I hoped that most of the film would take place during this time, an era when many of us were coming of age, but…how silly of me! It’s 2015, and as much as I find recent times to be banal and abrasive, this is the age that modern kids live in. The makers of the movie are obviously hoping for many youthful viewers ‘accompanied by their parental units, of course. I also believe this film should and will make a hefty sum at the box office, as long as kids...

Josh Gad, who can be seen portraying Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in Jobs next weekend, has signed on to play legendary comedian Sam Kinison in the biopic Kinison.

Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) has signed on to direct from a screenplay by Rich Wilkes (xXx), based on the book Brother Sam by Bill Kinison. The story starts out in the 1980s, following Sam Kinison's transition from a Pentecostal preacher into the world of stand-up comedy. He became an overnight star after being showcased on a HBO special hosted Rodney Dangerfield, who he co-starred with in Back to School. After battling substance abuse for years, the comedian cleaned up his act before being killed by a drunk driver in 1992 at the age of 38.

David Permut is producing the drama, which was originally set up at HBO Films with Tom Shadyac attached to direct. Here's what the producer had to say about the star and director.

Ford Austin is the star of many films across genres and the director of close to two dozen films; now, Ford takes a pause from a busy shooting and post-production schedule to talk about "Dahmer vs. Gacy" a serial killer focused horror film that pits two of the most notorious murderers against rogue military scientists.
