10 TV Shows Which Were Canceled but Ended on a Cliffhanger
Image
There’s nothing quite like the agony of a TV show canceled before its time, especially when it leaves fans hanging on a cliff so steep you could call it cruel. You’re sitting there, fondling the remote quite clumsily, practically screaming, or perhaps rolling your eyes as the credits roll. What is worse is that you’ll never know what happens next.

While the frustration of unanswered questions lingers, these endings often become the stuff of legend, giving fire to endless fan theories and what-if scenarios. Here are 10 shows that left us hanging, yet somehow remain memorable for the passion they inspired in fans.

10. Teenage Bounty Hunters

If you missed Teenage Bounty Hunters, you’re not alone. This one was hard to catch and kept a low profile. But those who watched it loved it. This offbeat dramedy followed twin sisters Sterling and Blair,...

Shemar Moore in S.W.A.T. (2017)
These Cancellations Still Haunt Us
Shemar Moore in S.W.A.T. (2017)
We've all been there before.

You fall in love with a show. You fall in love with the characters. You fall in love with a Universe. And then, suddenly, without warning, your favorite show is canceled, and you feel a tremendous loss.

Television can be a comfort to many, and when you find that show or that perfect character that you connect with, it downright sucks to know you won't get to see them anymore.

Over the years, many shows have been cut short ahead of their time.

While others may have had a decent run, with years under their belt, the cancellation can still feel abrupt, especially when they don't get to end the series on their own terms.

We've seen fan campaigns change studios' minds and cancellations reversed at the last minute (S.W.A.T. says hi!), but unfortunately, most shows don't have that same luck.

Their cancellations sometimes led...

Pitch: Mark-Paul Gosselaar Considered Quitting Hollywood After Baseball Drama's Cancellation
Pitch aired for one season on Fox during the 2016-2017 television season, and the decision to cancel the baseball drama greatly impacted one of its stars.

Starring Kylie Bunbury, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelos, Dan Lauria, Mo McRae, Meagan Holder, and Tim Jo, the drama revolves around the first female player to join Major League baseball. In the story, Ginny Baker (Bunbury) joins the San Diego Padres, with Gosselaar playing her catcher.

A League of Their Own's Cancelation Contributes to a Toxic Trend
Image
Fans and series creators agree that Prime Video struck out in its recent decision to reverse the Season 2 order for period sports dramedy A League of Their Own. While the news retreaded a tiring streaming trend of short-lived Sapphic stories, the baseball series' unceremonious departure additionally underinvests in women's role in sports narratives.

From the US Women's National Team suing their employer for equal pay to leagues like the WNBA constantly fighting for space in the national sports market, cancelations of shows like A League of Their Own, Pitch, Big Shot, Long Slow Exhale, Bunheads, and Spinning Out prove reflective of disheartening dominant attitudes surrounding women's sports in popular culture. A League of Their Own's fight to find a second home field for their show eerily mirrors a reality where women's sports leagues and franchises constantly battle for better representation and investment in their livelihoods.

Kylie Bunbury Preps to Enter Brave New World — Plus, Her Take on What That Pitch Promo Does (and Doesn't) Mean
Image
Kylie Bunbury has tasted pure happiness, and it tastes sweet.

No, seriously. For her role in Peacock’s adaptation of Brave New World, which premieres Wednesday on the streaming service’s launch day, Bunbury frequently had to ingest prop pills known in the show as “Soma” — a drug dispensed freely in the futuristic society depicted in the series. Soma’s main function: keep the populace’s serotonin levels high, thereby making feelings of anger, hurt, grief and despair flit away like butterflies on the breeze. Or, as the show’s tagline somewhat menacingly suggests: “Everybody happy now.”

Pitch Is One of the Best Shows You Didn't Watch Live - Here's Why You Should Catch It on Hulu
Image
There are few show cancellations that get me as riled up as the sad case of Fox's Pitch. The baseball drama - which is now streaming on Hulu - had everything you could want in a series about the first female player in Major League Baseball: Dan Fogelman behind the scenes, Kylie Bunbury leading an all-star cast that includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar rocking the sexiest beard to grace television, and actual, true-blue, potential. A series with a Black female lead that explores the world of sports and how it deals with sexism, ageism, racism, and even mental health? That's what we call a freaking jackpot, folks!

At this point, you're probably wondering how a series that sounds so great on paper gets cancelled after its freshman season. Despite general acclaim from fans and experts alike, Pitch suffered from a frustrating lack of promotion from its network and low ratings.

Kylie Bunbury in Pitch (2016)
Why Pitch Should Be Your Next Quarantine Binge!
Kylie Bunbury in Pitch (2016)
If you haven't heard the news yet, the late and great female-led baseball series, Pitch, has dropped on Hulu, and we at TV Fanatic are excited about it.

PItch was one of the greatest new series to come out of 2016. It was a critical darling, and it racked up an excited, devout fanbase that only grew as the series progresses.

It had a stellar cast led by an incredible Kylie Bunbury in some of her best work of her career and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and they without a question of doubt had some of the best, most-talked-about chemistry that made them one of the most noteworthy dynamic duos onscreen.

Sadly, the series struck out on Fox, and even with a passionate and vocal fanbase that campaign and fought lie hell to get the series picked up again, it didn't happen. But here's the thing, the devoted fans of this great series never went away,...

Pitch's Kylie Bunbury Scores Lead Role in David E. Kelley Drama The Big Sky
Travis Fimmel in Vikings (2013)
Just days after Vikings vet Katheryn Winnick joined ABC’s The Big Sky, the network has found her co-lead in Pitch‘s Kylie Bunbury, TVLine has learned.

Based on C.J. Box’s 2013 novel The Highway, The Big Sky — which snagged a series order in January — is a procedural thriller that centers on private detective Cassie Dewell (played by Bunbury) and ex-cop Jenny Hoyt (Winnick), who team up on a search for two sisters that were kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana.

Our Favorite Limited/Anthology Series of the Decade
We're running down our favorite shows of the decade! In addition to our favorite action/adventure series and favorite procedurals, and relationship-focused programming, and supernatural series! Now, let's take a look at limited/anthology series!

Here is a reminder that we have almost two dozen favorites lists, and since we couldn't showcase every show on every list, we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.

And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!

To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

The Kids Are Alright - ABC (2018)

The premature end of this series was one of the biggest disappointments of the decade.

Pitch May Get Another Inning — Report
Yogi Berra
With apologies to baseball sage Yogi Berra, sometimes it ain’t over even after it’s over: Pitch may be revived for Season 2, according to a recent report.

Fox cancelled the sports drama, in which Kylie Bunbury played the first female Major League Baseball pitcher during her rookie season, in 2017. Now, Disney’s 20th TV may bring Pitch back, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The revival reportedly would be part of a plan to ensure that series creator Dan Fogelman, who also created 20th Century Television’s This Is Us, stays at the studio when his current deal is up. TVLine...

Fox Baseball Drama 'Pitch' Is Not Based on a True Story
Contrary to popular belief, Fox's Pitch is not based on a true story.

The Fox drama chronicles the story of Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), the first woman to break the gender barrier in Major League Baseball.

Created by Rick Singer and Dan Fogelman, the show is produced in partnership with Mlb thanks to a groundbreaking deal between the league and Fox that provides the project with unparalleled access to team logos, stadiums and more.

While producers hope the series becomes the latest instance where TV serves as a groundbreaker for history, many people believe that a woman has already played ...
