- He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1991 (1990 season) for Best Choreography for "Five Guys Named Moe".
- He was awarded the 1994 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Choreography in a Musical for "Five Guys Named Moe" in presented by the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson at the James A. Doolittle (University of California) Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
- In 1981 he choreographed Ray Davies' first musical Chorus Girls, at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, London.
- Served as Chair of the Dance Department of Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C.
- Worked as a singer, performing backing vocals on records by artists such as Amii Stewart.
- He won the Olivier Award and the NAACP Award. He was also honoured with the Living Legend Award for the Performing Arts for his teaching.
- In 1982 he released a solo single, a cover of the Holland-Dozier-Holland composition "Baby I Need Your Loving".
