‘Schindler’s List’ Star Caroline Goodall and ‘This City Is Ours’ Actor Hannah Onslow to Lead Short Film ‘The Second Time Around’ (Exclusive)
Image
Steven Spielberg collaborator Caroline Goodall and “This City Is Ours” star Hannah Onslow have signed on to lead new short film “The Second Time Around.”

Directed by Jack Howard, the fantasy-drama short follows a waitress (Onslow) who, while closing a café on a rainy night in London, is confronted by a mysterious older woman (Goodall). Genevieve Lewis (BBC’s “Doctors”) and David Ashton (“The Last King of Scotland”) feature in supporting roles.

“The Second Time Around” marks the debut of Nottingham-born Howard, who is the co-founder of the U.K. comedy duo Jack & Dean. The short marks a step toward dramatic filmmaking for the writer-director and was funded via a crowdfunding campaign with over 500 contributors. The short will serve as proof-of-concept for a feature film.

Ash Horne and Max Marlow are producing “The Second Time Around” with 42 Management & Production. Horne, a former creative director at the Oscar-winning Slick Films, is...

Retrospective [Part Two]: Todd & The Book Of Pure Evil
[Originally appeared in the January 2015 issue of Deadly Magazine. Catch up with Part One of the retrospective here.]

Though it was prematurely cancelled in 2012, the horror comedy TV series Todd & The Book of Pure Evil has lived on through the memories of its loyal fan base, been discovered by a new audience on home media, and will return in an animated film in the near future. Last fall, I had the great pleasure of speaking with the series' co-creators and main cast, who looked back on fighting evil... with mixed results.

In this second part of Daily Dead's retrospective on Todd & The Book of Pure Evil, Alex House (Todd Smith), Maggie Castle (Jenny Kolinsky), Bill Turnbull (Curtis Weaver), Melanie Leishman (Hannah B. Williams), Shawn Pierce (music composer), and series co-creator Craig David Wallace discuss their time on the truly unique series that showed the humor, horror, and often blood-soaked trials and tribulations of high school.

What were your auditions like for Todd & The Book of Pure Evil?

Doctor Who complete reviews: Timelash
One of the great things about Doctor Who is that it always champions the underdog. The evil tyrants are never allowed to win the day (except on rare occasions) and so it's left to the Cordos, Vishinskys and Jagos to stroll off into the sunset with their heads held high.

Doctor Who even has its very own group of underdog stories – some of these fall into the underrated but brilliant strand like The Ambassadors Of Death, Image Of The Fendahl or Frontios. Then there are the tales that used to be slated but are getting reappraised by fans like The Horns Of Nimon or The Gunfighters. And then there are the tales that are seemingly beyond redemption like The Twin Dilemma, Time And The Rani and Timelash.

Ah, Timelash. Nobody seems to like it. Some clever soul found that if you rearrange the letters, they make up Lame Shit, which...

Actor Ben "Gandhi" Kingsley and his Brazilian, actress wife Daniela Lavender will star in the $30 million feature Taj, based on true events, recounting the relationship between 16th century Indian Mughal emperor 'Shah Jahan', builder of the 'Taj Mahal' and his Persian wife 'Kandahari Begum'. The 'Taj Mahal' was intended as a mausoleum in memory of the emperor's favourite wife, 'Mumtaz Mahal'. Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (Film Review)
As a prequel to the previous two films in its trilogy, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans doesn’t so much answer burning questions they posed as dramatize backstory that has only been spoken of before. And it raises a few queries of its own.

To wit, what exactly are the rules of werewolf transformation? There are a number of meaningful shots of the full moon, but it generally seems that the Lycans can assume beastly form whenever they please. The vampires (a.k.a. Death Dealers) who rule the medieval-ish land in which Rise is set keep the captive, enslaved Lycans from assuming hair and fangs with special collars—and yet hero Lucian (Michael Sheen) doesn’t go monstrous at certain points late in the film when it might be advantageous to do so, even though he doesn’t have a collar on.

Best not to ponder details like this...
