      Joe DiMaggio(November 19, 1939 - May 12, 1944) (divorced, 1 child)

Trivia

  • Owned a supper club in Palm Springs, Charcoal Charley's, where she performed for the patrons.
  • She and her family were 20 minutes late to her wedding to DiMaggio because the streets around San Francisco's Church of Sts. Peter and Paul were jammed with an estimated 20,000 well-wishers.
  • Promised DiMaggio that she would wait for him to return from 1946 spring training camp, but married New York stockbroker George Schuster. It was only after he met Marilyn Monroe in 1952 did DiMaggio finally get Dorothy out of his system for good.
  • Took Joe DiMaggio to court in June 1952 to amend their divorce decree after he took their son on a date with Marilyn Monroe, claiming Monroe had DiMaggio take them to places where the boy was exposed to drinking and adult talk. She also sought an increase in child support to $1,000/month, and a stipulation that all future visits between father and son take place at her home. The case was dismissed in February 1953. Dorothy was represented by Deannie Best's then-husband, Albert Pearlson.
  • Went to Mexico to seek alternative treatment for her cancer. Husband Ralph Peckovich's opposition caused her to leave him, although they remained married until her death.
