Veriko Anjaparidze in Trudnoe schaste (1958)

Trivia

Veriko Anjaparidze

Edit
  • Mother of Sofiko Chiaureli who idolized Sergei Parajanov; both Veriko and Sofiko star in Parajanov's La légende de la forteresse de Souram (1985). Sofiko also stared in Parajanov's La couleur de la grenade (1969), Achik Kerib, conte d'un poète amoureux (1988) and the unfinished "Confession" which survives in its original negative in Mikhail Vartanov's Paradjanov: Le Dernier Printemps (1992).
  • Queen of Soviet theater. Although Veriko (she was always called by first name) acted in dozens of films, she did not achieve the level of success of Nato Vachnadze, but she was first on the stage, from her 20s until her death. Her in from Le repentir (1984) by Tengiz Abuladze became a cult favorite. "Is this way to the temple?" her character asks a victim of the Soviet regime. These words were later taken as a motto of "perestroika".
