Mervat Amin in Palabres sur le Nil (1971)
Mervat Amin was born in Minya, Egypt to an Egyptian father and a Scottish mother. She lived two years there due to her father's job, then they moved back to Cairo where she was raised. She earned her bachelor's degree in English Literature from Ain Shams University.

Her artistic beginnings were at university, where she joined the university's acting team and presented the play "Ya Tale' Al-Shajara" by Tawfiq Al-Hakim. She made her film debut in 1968 in Noufouss haira (1968) alongside Ahmad Mazhar, where she was discovered by chance. A relative of her father was the director of Galal Studio and one time she was there to watch a film being shot, and at that moment, actors Rushdy Abaza and Ahmed Ramzy were shooting in that scene. She caught the attention of Ahmed Ramzy and later when Ahmed Mazhar was looking for an upcoming actress for a part in "Noufouss haira", Ramzy recommended her to him. She gained significant recognition playing a supporting role opposite Abdel Halim Hafez in his final film, Abi foq al-Shagara (1969).

Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, she became one of Egypt's most prominent actresses. Moreover, she became a beauty icon during that period. She has featured in more than 120 films in a career spanning six decades.
