Enrique Diosdado
He started as a reporter which was his father's occupation, focusing on theatre reviews, until he finally turned to acting. He debuted at age 18 onstage, becoming leading man in 1935 in the famed Margarita Xirgu company. They were touring South America when the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936. They stayed there, and Diosdado worked for a long time both in theaters and cinema. He had a daughter with his first wife Isabel Gisbert who would later become a playwright. In 1943 he married his second wife, actress Amelia de la Torre, who was leading lady in the Xirgu ensemble, and they had a son named as him, Enrique. In 1950 they came back to Spain, first entering the María Guerrero theatre company as leading man, and seven years later creating his own where he both acted and directed modern as well as classical plays. He effectively combined theatre and screen work. Onstage, he was Don Juan in a 1950 version with Salvador Dalí sets. He made most of the Federico García Lorca plays. Onscreen, he became known mainly for dramatic roles. He was able to perform in some of his daughter's first plays, before retiring after suffering a thrombosis in 1978.
