Steve Alten grew up in Philadelphia, earning a Bachelors degree in Physical Education at Penn State University, a Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of Delaware, and a Doctorate at Temple University. Steve played and coached basketball at the high school and college levels, was an assistant coach/grad assistant for the U. of Delaware Mens' Varsity, and worked informally with Hall of Fame basketball coach John Chaney from 1984-87.
