    Swing bassist who had studied music at Indiana University in the 1930's and later played in the orchestras of Alvino Rey (1940), Glenn Miller (1940-45), Ray McKinley (1946) and Artie Shaw (1950, 1952-53). He recorded under his own name in the mid-50's, leading a band which included Zoot Sims and Al Cohn. Left the music scene in the 1970's to pursue a new career as a photographer.
