  • He was awarded the O.C. (Officer of the Order of Canada) on October 18, 2001 for his services to drama and invested on May 9, 2003 from the Canadian Governor General for his services to Canada .His career has been marked by creativity and a passion for excellence. After directing more than 100 dramas for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he later went on to feature filmmaking. His widely acclaimed trilogy, "Isabel," "Act of the Heart," and "Journe,"y which he wrote, directed and produced made a distinctive contribution to Canadian cinema. Other films followed and, more recently, he has turned his talents to writing novels. While his accomplishments are numerous, he has never forgotten his ancestral roots and has provided a venue for Gaspé artists through the Almond Art Centre. He was a resident of Malibu, California.
  • After turning to feature filmmaking, he attracted domestic and international attention with Isabel (1968), Act of the Heart (1970) and Détour (1972), a trilogy of understated explorations of the mind and spirit starring then wife Geneviève Bujold.
  • A graduate of Oxford University, he began his career by founding a traveling company of Shakespearean Players touring England, before joining the CBC in Toronto in 1954 as a director.

  • He was awarded the 2002 Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee Medal from the Canadian Governor General for his services to Canada.
