Matt R. Allen is a Hollywood screenwriter, producer, and leading AI content strategist who is reshaping how entertainment, marketing, and advertising are developed and delivered. As the founder and president of Branch Out Skunk Works-a first-of-its-kind innovation lab within Branch Out Productions-Allen has become a driving force in integrating artificial intelligence into every phase of the creative pipeline, from ideation and scripting to production, marketing, and distribution.
Branch Out's Skunk Works is the independent film industry's first fully operational, union-aligned AI division, designed to empower creators, reduce costs, and elevate access to high-quality storytelling for emerging artists and underserved communities. Under Allen's leadership, the team explores bold, AI-enhanced workflows across development, art, music, marketing, and even legal, while upholding the integrity and soul of human creativity.
A vocal advocate that "AI isn't here to replace storytellers-it's here to supercharge them," Allen has become both a futurist and a mentor, actively training filmmakers and writers to embrace the evolving toolkit of modern production. Recent credits include executive producer of the acclaimed 2023 documentary Hedrie (starring Bill Hader, Phil Hendrie, and Judd Apatow); co-writer and producer of the feel-good comedy Block Party (2022); and executive producer and co-creator of two upcoming scripted films for BET Plus: Holy Hustle and Son of a Preacher Man (set to air in 2025).
Prior to founding Skunk Works, Allen built a prolific Hollywood screenwriting career, writing for New Line Cinema, Paramount, Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., Fox, Lionsgate, and Universal. He co-wrote the holiday hit Four Christmases (starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon), and has written over 30 studio screenplays-three of which were produced and featured a combined eight Academy Award-winning actors, including Robert Duvall, Helen Hunt, and Mary Steenburgen. Allen's uncredited rewrite work includes contributions to RED, Employee of the Month, and Undercover Brother, and he's collaborated with producers such as Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious), Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), Jamie Foxx, Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained), and Regina King.
Allen's creative reach also extends to AI-driven music and character creation, having developed several AI-infused artists and singers-including Miz Chief, King Rough, and the Branch Out Crew-who release original music on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and other major platforms.
Bridging legacy Hollywood and next-generation storytelling, Allen divides his time between traditional writers' rooms and experimental AI labs. Through workshops, coaching, and public speaking, he continues to guide fellow artists in harnessing AI responsibly and creatively. Whether scripting a feature film or designing an AI-powered campaign, Matt R. Allen is shaping the future of storytelling-and inviting others to help write it.
