- When he was at senior school he was a bit of a slacker but managed to get into 6th form and intended to be an architect but 2 weeks before he was due to take his A levels he walked out and went to London to join RADA. His father and his teachers thought he was mad but he knew he wouldn't make it to be an architect particularly when his best subjects were cricket and football,.
- Kingston High School where he was educated at had a number of pupils who became famous including Amy Johnson who was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia and actor Tom Courtney who became head boy.
