Shaun of the Dead Star's New Horror Comedy Movie Starts Streaming This Month
Image
After his rise to fame as one of the stars of Shaun of the Dead over two decades ago, Nick Frost has debuted an all-new horror comedy film. He is the writer of the new film Get Away, in which he also stars.

Get Away is set to make its debut on the streaming platform Shudder on Jan. 10, 2025. This follows the movie premiering at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, last fall. Penned by Frost, Get Away was directed by Steffen Haars. Other stars of the film include Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft, and Maisie Ayres. The film follows a family on vacation on a remote Swedish island when they discover that there's a serial killer on the prowl, and the trailer can be watched below.

Get Away Review: Nick Frost’s Deliciously Dark Return To Comedy Horror Pushes The Limits
Image
Nick Frost returns to horror comedy with Get Away, and while the film does not match Shaun of the Dead's hectic and hilarious energy, it has its moments. Frost found incredible success working alongside his frequent collaborator and friend, Simon Pegg. Together, the pair starred in the Cornetto Trilogy, an iconic set of comedy films that bend the rules of the genre. Now that he's breaking out on his own for a while, Frost continues to deliver solid comedy in a quirky folk horror setting with Get Away, a film he also wrote.

A family’s vacation to a remote island turns into a nightmare when they discover a serial killer is targeting them. Combining dark humor with chilling suspense, the show explores the family’s desperate struggle for survival as they attempt to outwit their relentless pursuer.

15 Best Ridley Scott Movies, Ranked
Image
Ridley Scott made a triumphant return to the top of the box office and added to his lengthy list of historical epics with Gladiator II, but where it ranks among the best movies from his decades-long career is a point of debate. The historical inaccuracies in Gladiator II did little to discourage moviegoers from seeing the long-awaited sequel in theaters, and its early box office haul put Ridley Scott into elite company among directors. While reviews indicate that Gladiator II is unlikely to be counted among Scott's very best movies, it's still an entertaining and worthy follow-up to its predecessor.

Since making his feature film directorial debut in 1977, Ridley Scott has tackled a number of different genres, and has become the gold standard for several of them. Scott is particularly famous for tackling historical epics (like Gladiator and Gladiator II) that require time, patience, and attention to detail. However, despite being 87 years old,...

The 20 Best Movies Like Gladiator, Ranked
Image
With Gladiator II releasing in late 2024, 2000's Gladiator is back in the public eye and so is Maximus Decimus Meridius's journey to regain his freedom and avenge his family against Emperor Commodus. While the movie is not particularly historically accurate, it still proved to have a lasting impact on pop culture and the perception of gladiators in general.

Yet, as fascinating as Gladiator is, it isn't the only historical epic with stakes and drama that continues to resound through Hollywood. Many other movies fit a similar profile. While the wait for Gladiator II reaches its final stretch, it might be worth checking out some other impactful historical epics.

Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on November 15, 2024: Ridley Scott's Gladiator II finally hits theaters on November 22, 2024, 24 years after the release of the original. As fans eagerly step back into the world of ancient Rome and gladiatorial combat, several terrific films make...

War of the Dead (2012)
Directed by: Marko Makilaakso

Written by: Marko Makilaakso

Starring: Mikko Leppilampi, Andrew Tiernan, Samuel Vauramo, Jouko Ahola, Antti Reini, Magdalena Gorska

The zombie movie apocalypse continues with War of the Dead, an action film/zombie hybrid with some surprisingly strong cinematography, solid performances and several other positive aspects the target audience will not especially care about.

During WWII, along the Russian border, Nazi scientists hide away in a secret bunker and perform “anti-death” experiments on captured Russian soldiers. When the test subjects turn into crazed, flesh-eating zombies with superhuman strength, the experiments are abandoned and the “evidence” is buried in a mass grave. Two years later an American and Finnish task force led by Captain Stone (Andrew Tiernan) is recruited to find and destroy the Nazi bunker. They face off with German soldiers and several men on both sides are killed or severely wounded.

The remaining members of the task force continue on their mission,...

War of the Dead Never Emerges from the Fog of War: A Movie Review
Director: Marko Mäkilaakso. Writers Marko Mäkilaakso, and Barr B. Potter. Cast: Andrew Tiernan, Mikko Leppilampi, Samuel Vauramo, Jouko Ahola, Mark Wingett, and Andreas Wilson. War of the Dead was originally titled Stone's War. This film has undergone several other changes in its eight year production history. Production companies have come and gone along with primary cast members. James van der Beek was one actor who was attached to this picture only to be replaced by another. War of the Dead released in the United Kingdom on DVD May 28th and this film has not overcome the many challenges of production. The film reviewed here is simply lackluster in story and character development. Only a few exciting film elements draw this title out of complete oblivion. The film is set during World War II. Finnish and American forces are working together to destroy an underground German bunker. Beneath the ground, an...

I first saw War of the Dead (on the big screen no less) at Glasgow Frightfest, but sadly I slept through half of it – whether that was because of the film or just a lack of sleep was always a matter for debate. Until now. Having sat through Momentum’s...
