Bectu Launches Biggest Ever Survey

British broadcasting union Bectu is launching what it is calling its largest ever survey of those working behind the scenes in TV and film. The union is asking workers across the UK’s creative industries about their experiences and views on key issues facing the sector, including pay, employment practices, mental health and wellbeing and finances. The move comes with the freelance workforce in a perilous position, with thousands exiting the sector as they struggle for work and grapple with low pay and poor conditions. Bectu has repeatedly stressed that this is worsening as time goes on. “Creative industry workers are critical to our economy and to our social and cultural fabric,” said Bectu head Philippa Childs. “But data on creative workers is lacking. The freelance nature of the creative industries means that freelancers often fall through data gaps on employment statistics, while without formal employment structures,...

‘Together’ Review: Dave Franco and Alison Brie in a Bonkers but Wildly Fun Fusion of Body Horror and Codependency Angst
Image
The bodily mutations in The Substance left you wanting more? Well, has Australian writer-director Michael Shanks got a movie for you, with more bone-crunching contortions, sticky goop and subcutaneous disturbance than you could dream of. Not to mention supernatural cult craziness. Dave Franco and Alison Brie are terrific playing a codependent couple going through a troubled patch while moving to a small town where the woods hide ghastly secrets. When Brie’s schoolteacher Millie early on suggests in exasperation that maybe it would be better to split up now rather than later when it’s more painful, she has no idea how prophetic those words will be.

It’s hard to say much about the freaky blast of body horror romance that is Together without wading into spoiler territory, but a syrupy Spice Girls hit from 1996 provides clues. As does a prologue in which searchers comb the lush forest — regional Victoria,...

The Most Underrated Blue Rangers, Ranked
Image
Power Rangers isn't a series famous for its equal treatment of its characters. While Red, Pink, and Sixth Rangers can typically count on getting plenty of attention, it's a total gamble whether a season will give Rangers of every other color a decent amount of focus. Despite being in every season, Blue Power Rangers especially are often overlooked.

Some Blue Rangers are underrated because they come from less popular teams or seasons, while others simply aren't given anything to do by the more well-liked seasons they star in. When they aren't following in Billy Cranston's footsteps as their team's resident genius, they're often left without a defined role on their teams. And with how Blue Rangers tend to be more serious characters, not even their well-written personalities can stand out next to the louder ones around them.

Sonny Vrebav and Alijin Abella in Hunter n Hornet..

Created by Nida graduates Sonny Vrebac and Aljin Abella, the 21 part series focusses on loveless characters Sade and Cade and their journey throughout Sydney hot spots in pursuit of finding their dream women.
