In 1999, teenagers came out in droves to see American Pie. Now, almost 30 years later, the comedy classic and its equally funny sequel, American Pie 2, are heading to Netflix.
Beginning Aug. 1, American Pie and American Pie 2 will be available to stream on Netflix. The coming-of-age sex comedy follows a group of teenagers — Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs), Chris "Oz" Ostreicher (Chris Klein), Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) — who make a pact to lose their virginity before they graduate high school. Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Owen, Tara Reid, Natasha Lyonne, Mena Suvari, and Shannon Elizabeth co-star as their classmates, while comedy icons Eugene Levy and Jennifer Coolidge play Biggs and Scott's characters' respective parents.
At the time of its release, American Pie received mostly positive reviews, with many critics calling it a well-done modern update to the teen sex comedy genre. However, as...

You may have already seen her reality show Yolanthe on Netflix, but on Saturday evening at the London Hotel in West Hollywood, Yolanthe Cabau called for attention to the work of Free a Girl, the organization she founded to rescue young girls being sex trafficked around the world.
So far, since its 2008 launch, Free a Girl has rescued 8500 children from sex trafficking and helped lock up 2300 of the perpetrators.
“I, myself, grew up in a unsafe household,” Cabau said. “My father was a drug addict, and my mom and me and my siblings, we had to flee the country because it was very dangerous. So we went from Spain to Holland, and as a child growing up in that unsafe environment, I always knew that one day, I wanted to do something for those children that don’t have a voice or people don’t see them, and they’re so vulnerable.

Horror is one of the hardest genres to nail down, as even a minuscule mistake could result in a horrific film, and that too not in a good way. The films on this list have also made the same mistake, but in their case, it was not a minor one, as after watching them, it feels like the director had two choices and he always chose the wrong one. So, as a public service, we compiled this list of horrible horror films that are currently available on Prime Video, so that you, our reader, can avoid them.

The video game curse strikes again! While gamers and movie fans alike are still reeling from the spectacular failure of Borderlands at the box office, it’s worth remembering that Hollywood’s obsession with adapting interactive entertainment has produced far worse results.
The Eli Roth-directed Borderlands adaptation starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart may have crashed and burned with a dismal 10% Rotten Tomatoes score, but it’s practically Oscar-worthy compared to the absolute bottom of the video game movie barrel.
That dubious honor belongs to a film so terrible, it makes Borderlands look like a masterpiece.
When you’re alone in the dark, the real horror is the movie itself
Long before Borderlands disappointed audiences worldwide, a pioneering survival horror game called Alone in the Dark revolutionized gaming in 1992. This groundbreaking title featured 3D characters against pre-rendered backgrounds and established many conventions that would later define the horror genre in games like Resident Evil.

Natasha Lyonne is back on the road for Season 2 of Poker Face, and she brought a few old friends along for the ride.
While discussing the star-studded guest roster of the Peacock show’s sophomore season, the first three episodes available to stream May 8, the actress admitted to Deadline that she wasn’t entirely sure if she’d previously worked with ‘The Sleazy Georgian’ actor John Cho.
“I think that he’s maybe in some of the American Pies,” she said. “I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen those. I did see the first one at the premiere. I do love Chris and Paul Weitz. I do talk a lot of shit about that movie, it’s mostly just because I don’t understand high school or proms or suburbia.”

In the era of remakes and reboots, we've gotten a lot of news about horror movies and their potential revivals. The cult classic and underrated gem Urban Legend is the next in line for a reboot. The 1998 slasher film was buried underneath the success of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, which have also been remade and rebooted.
What we know so far about the Urban Legend reboot
Gary Dauberman is set to produce after working on other horror films such as 2025's Until Dawn, 2017's It, as well as multiple movies in The Conjuring Universe. Alongside Dauberman is Neal Moritz, who produced the original Urban Legend and also I Know What You Did Last Summer. He is reportedly in discussions to potentially produce as well. Shanrah Wakefield, known for a few Lifetime movies, is writing the script. Additionally, Screen Gems is behind this new take.

The massive box office success of the recent Scream movies led to an I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel (check out the first trailer here), and we now have word that another '90s slasher movie is set for the revival treatment, with Screen Gems in the process of developing a new Urban Legends movie.
THR reports that writer/actress Shanrah Wakefield (Wrong Swipe) has been hired to pen the script, with Gary Dauberman, whose video game adaptation Until Dawn opens this weekend, on board as a producer via his Coin Operated banner. Neal Moritz, who was one of the producers of the original, is also in negotiations to produce.
Directed by Jamie Blanks and written by Sylvio Horta, the original '90s slasher was set in a New England university and focused on a killer whose murders were inspired by popular urban legends. Jared Leto, Alicia Witt,...

Hollywood follows up a new Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer film with an Urban Legend reboot as well. More here.
In a period of time where we’re getting new Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer movies, it seemed a matter of time before Urban Legend would take its place in the queue. The original spawned a sequel or two, but my memory of it is it’s a fairly forgettable film that very much followed what was becoming a bit of a horror land rush at the time. Jamie Blanks directed, and a pre-House Of Gucci Jared Leto is in the ensemble.
Also in there? Joshua Jackson Alicia Witt and Tara Reid. There’s a trilogy of Urban Legend films, and I’ve actually watched them all, but can recall very little.
And now the whole thing is coming back.

Did you ever hear the one about Hollywood consistently banking on sequels, requels, reboots and familiar IP to bring in box office dollars? It's not exactly folklore since it's something very well-known and very true, but it is the appropriate way to drop news that a slasher film from the late '90s teen horror movie boom is making a comeback. Urban Legend was released in the wake of the success of 1996's Scream and now another take will follow in that franchise's successful footsteps in hopes of striking gold once again.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, a reboot of 1998's Urban Legend is in early development at Sony Screen Gems, with Shanrah Wakefield being tasked to tackle the screenplay. Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the Until Dawn video game adaptation that is opening this Friday, will produce through his Coin Operated banner. Meanwhile Neal H. Five years ago, it was announced that Screen Gems had hired What Keeps You Alive writer/director Colin Minihan to take the helm of a reboot of the 1998 slasher Urban Legend, the idea being to create “an iconic new slasher for the digital age in a world where internet urban legends are born and move at a terrifying pace.” Minihan’s reboot got far enough into development that Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara were in talks to star in the film… but then, it all fell apart. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Screen Gems is going to give this Urban Legend reboot idea another try, bringing in genre regular Gary Dauberman to produce the film under his Coin Operated banner. Neal H. Moritz, who was a producer on the original film, is in talks to produce as well, while Shanrah Wakefield has been hired to write the screenplay.

Fans have been shocked by a recent appearance of American Pie star Jason Biggsas he attended the 2025 City Harvest Gala: Carnaval on Tuesday in New York City. Why? Well, many still remember the 46-year-old actor from his American Pie days, and he is almost half the man he was back then – literally after revealing he has lost a huge 40lbs through some good eating and - jokingly - the “stress” of directing his first movie.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Biggs jokingly put down his dramatic change in appearance to working on his upcoming movie, Getaway, which he also stars in with Justin H. Min, Meaghan Rath, Arturo Castro, and Kamilla Kowal. He said:
'A part of it was I directed my first movie. Probably the most stressed I've ever been in my life, professionally anyway. So that contributed a little bit.”

Jeff Bridges has had an illustrious career. He's worked with some of Hollywood's greatest directors and has been nominated for seven Academy Awards. However, for many people, he'll always be associated with the 1998 comedy classic, The Big Lebowski, which, if the legendary actor had his way, would be receiving a sequel.
Per Deadline, Bridges attended a screening for The Big Lebowski in Los Angeles and was asked whether he'd be interested in reprising his iconic role of The Dude in a potential sequel. The acclaimed actor would confirm that not only would he be more than willing to return, but that his The Big Lebowski co-star Julianne Moore would as well. "Of course," Bridges said. "Julianne and I would fantasize about that. We did another movie together, Seventh Son, she played a witch in that movie. And we would often say, ‘Gee it’s all set up for a sequel.

Indonesian horror has a new box office champion. “Pabrik Gula” (Sugar Mill), the latest spine-tingler from genre maestro Awi Suryadi, has officially claimed the crown as Indonesia’s highest-grossing film of 2025, conjuring $7 million in local receipts.
The supernatural thriller, backed by powerhouse MD Pictures in partnership with Est Studios and N8 Studios, has mesmerized Southeast Asian audiences with its atmospheric visuals, folklore-drenched narrative, and relentless scares. Drawing inspiration from local legends, the hair-raising tale follows seasonal laborers who find themselves trapped in a decrepit, haunted sugar mill in rural Java, where they battle malevolent supernatural entities.
“‘Pabrik Gula’s’ runaway success proves that audiences are hungry for culturally rooted horror,” said Manoj Punjabi, CEO of MD Pictures. “This is more than a box office milestone — it’s a statement that Indonesian storytelling belongs on the world stage.”

Was Kaley Cuoco anout to lose the role of Penny to a known actress? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Kaley Cuoco may have been the perfect fit for Penny on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ but the role almost went to someone else after she was initially rejected for the part, and several other Hollywood stars were in the running.
However, according to LADBible, this initial rejection might not have been as devastating as it seems, considering the character of Penny was originally written quite differently.

Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" know that, for twelve seasons and the same number of years, Kaley Cuoco brought some much-needed levity to the role of Penny, the beautiful and outgoing aspiring actress who moves into the apartment across the hall from Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki). Penny is basically an audience surrogate who hangs out with a group of intensely nerdy guys with a ton of esoteric knowledge about science and pop culture.
As the resident "normie," Penny translates their nonsense for the viewers and, within the universe of the show, helps all of the guys evolve. Leonard, Penny's on-again, off-again boyfriend, is a much better person after he spends years as Penny's partner. Penny ultimately breaks Sheldon's barriers down to the point where he considers her one of his best friends in the world.

For many years, the high-water marks for movies based on video games were Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 fight film "Mortal Kombat" and his 2002 zombie flick "Resident Evil." One can see what a sorry state we were in if those two mediocre films were the high-water marks of anything. Adapting video games to the big screen has long been tricky for Hollywood. These films are often lambasted as terrible and have typically bombed ("Kombat" and "Resident" notwithstanding). Alternatively, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel's 1993 adaptation of "Super Mario Bros." is deeply beloved by a passionate cult of weirdos who love its zany ideas (a cult I belong to), but most folks didn't like how far the film strayed from Shigeru Miyamoto's Nintendo property.

Alec Baldwin will no longer face involuntary manslaughter charges related to the 2021 accidental killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust, Variety reports. On December 23, 2024, special prosecutor Kari Morrissey announced that she was dropping her appeal of a judge's previous dismissal of the case.
Baldwin went to trial in July 2024. The prosecution intended to prove that the actor had been reckless and criminally negligent when he fired a gun while preparing for a scene on set. The bullet struck Hutchins in the chest and also injured director Joel Souza. Three days into the trial, however, the charges against Baldwin were dropped by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who criticized Morissey's handling of the case, calling it "so near to bad faith as to show signs of scorching."
Specifically, Morrissey failed to introduce key evidence — a cache of bullets — that Baldwin's lawyers, Alex Spiro and Luke Nikas, argued would help his case.

Although Ghosts season 4’s latest casting news did admittedly shut down one long-awaited cameo, this guest star could still appear in an even better capacity. The ghosts of Ghosts season 4 are a compelling bunch, but the CBS sitcom is not above utilizing cameos from time to time to keep viewers invested. Already, season 4 has seen Mary Holland star as Patience the Puritan ghost for three outings, while Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris played Sam’s estranged father, Frank. In the coming episodes, Isaac’s Ghosts season 4 storyline will soon bring another famous face to the Woodstone Mansion.

Michael Rosenbaum gained his cult following by playing Lex Luthor in Smallville, but he already proved he could play the villain in Urban Legend. Rosenbaum was just as impudent in that film, which made his character’s death scene so satisfying.
Tubi is streaming Urban Legend for free this January. Launched at the peak of the 90s slasher trend, the film was criticized for its glaring similarities to Scream. Urban Legend was a commercial hit (earning $72.5 million against its $14 million budget), but it remains one of 1998’s worst-rated horror movies. Released that same year, Disturbing Behavior, The Faculty, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer were similarly panned by audiences and critics. However, these films fueled the careers of budding stars Katie Holmes, Elijah Wood, and Jennifer Love Hewitt; Smallville fans also look to Urban Legend as a highlight of Michael Rosenbaum’s career.

CBS Ghosts season 4 just missed the chance for a perfect casting opportunity for its highest-profile guest character. The series, starring Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), has an exciting history of introducing new characters into the mix. Its guest appearances often have unique and humorous ties to ghosts from various periods. For instance, Alberta Haynes hits it off with a famous baseball player from her day in Ghosts season 3, episode 7, "The Polterguest." Their connection made for a fun and memorable outing, even though their whirlwind romance didn't last.
Ghosts even featured Tara Reid in Ghosts season 2, episode 14, "Trevor's Body," tying back to Trevor Lefkowitz (Asher Grodman) and the story of how the ghost died. Adding new characters keeps the CBS comedy fresh. A new character will tie directly back to Isaac Higgintoot (Brandon Scott Jones), who has had a massive outing already, including a highlight in Ghosts season 4, episode 6, "The Primary Source.

While Ghosts has a lot of good guest stars, I still can’t get over how cleverly self-referential the CBS sitcom’s best season 2 guest role proved. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts give the sitcom a lot of opportunities to make historical jokes, but not all of these gags are concerned with far-flung periods in history, like the Viking invasions or the Revolutionary War. Flower’s Ghosts storylines feature a lot of jokes about the counterculture of the ‘60s, while Pete’s obsession with ‘80s pop culture is central to his bond with Sam’s husband Jay.

In 2023, Fox premiered an entirely new kind of reality TV series that took celebrities on intense missions in unforgiving environments that tested both their mental and physical abilities. Unlike most reality TV competition series, there were no eliminations, but recruits who could not handle the pressures of these series of tests could withdraw at any point.
Previous seasons saw a wide array of celebrities competing, from star athletes to Bachelor contestants. In Season 1, professional athletes Dwight Howard and Danny Amendola, who also so happened to star in Season 33 of Dancing With the Stars, took on the challenge. There was also reality TV's first mom, Kate Gossselin, and the Spice Girls' Mel B. For the first time in 33 years, veteran buyers and sellers will be wandering a trade floor far from Santa Monica during the American Film Market. Nearly every year since 1991, the U.S. film industry’s leading content market has set up shop at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The old digs weren’t exactly luxurious, but no one ever said the nitty-gritty world of indie film sales was the glamour-facing side of the movie business. The Loews met the industry’s needs, and for a frantic week every November, it was the place a generation of international dealmakers, distributors and Hollywood pretenders called home.
But the property changed ownership last year, forcing Amf organizers to hold the 2023 market at the nearby Le Meridian Delfina. That location disappointed many attendees due to its cramped layout, prompting AFM to reassess what venue would best serve its future. Organizers’ answer: To pack up and head to Vegas.

The horror genre has always been a big source of entertainment in film. It has the power to dominate the box office, with revenue streams of up to almost a billion dollars. Sometimes, however, certain films come and go before being given a real chance at exposure. This could be caused by clashing with another release similar to itself. It could boil down to the content of the film as well, where the story was too silly and obscure.
For the horror genre, many factors can cause films to become a little obscure and disappear. Whether or not a horror film gets forgotten, some manage to retain a cult following.

With the horror season drawing to a close, you might feel the urge to watch a new scary movie. If you’re like us, you’ll find that Scream aesthetic is your go-to vibe. However, you may have already watched it once or twice (or seven) times already. Luckily, we have assembled a list of very good flicks that found their way into theaters as rip-offs to Scream. Most are melodramatic, and a few are exceptional, but these hit the sweet spot if you’re in the mood for a light slasher. Some even star some of the actors and iconic villains. Check out the movies below, and have a great Halloween!

A staple movie for a lot of millennials in their childhood was the 2001 one movie-musical Josie and the Pussycats. It starred She's All That's Rachael Leigh Cook as well as American Pie's Tara Reid. It also starred Rosario Dawson long before she was Ahsoka Tano. At Los Angeles Comic Con, Dawson talked about her time making the movie and what it means to her that people are still appreciating it 23 years later. "I think it was such a special time doing that film, cause we still had privacy, we didn't all have a lot of cell phones or any of that stuff." With the film premiering in spring of 2001, production would've been some time before that, long before the advent of cell phones (especially ones that were basically computers in our pockets). The film is also long before social media, where everything and anything can be put out...

As one of the worst horror movie sequels ever made, youre forgiven if youve managed to wipe the memory of A Return to Salems Lot from your brain. Directed by Larry Cohen, the film is an unremarkable follow-up to Tobe Hoopers 1979 TV miniseries, and features an anthropologist and his son making their way to Salems Lot only to discover that its been taken over by vampires. This jumbled continuation received a limited theatrical release in 1987 before hitting VHS a year later, and now its yours to rediscover this Halloween when it makes its way to its new streaming home.
Per Max, A Return to Salems Lot will begin streaming on October 1, just two days before the premiere of Gary Daubermans long-awaited remake of the original. Starring Michael Moriarty, Ricky Addison, Samuel Fuller, and Tara Reid in her feature film debut, the sequel was a critical failure on every level, not even reaching camp status.

Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) quickly became a fan-favorite character when he joined the cast of The Walking Dead in season four. After running into Glenn Rhee (Steven Yuen) and Tara Reid (Alanna Masterson), who were searching desperately for Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), he makes a fast impression. Alongside his comrades Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), the trio quickly proves that they can be solid allies. Once the group meets the others, including Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Abraham becomes a worthy member of the team.
Sadly, however, he meets his end in one of the most gruesome, polarizing episodes of the show. He is the first of two to meet the end of Negan Smiths (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) trusty bat Lucille. It was a horrifying moment and one that is ingrained in fans minds. But it was overshadowed by the even more heart-wrenching death of Glenn that followed.

Its incredible how much societal attitudes around whats shocking change over time, meaning that once controversial films appear relatively mild in hindsight. This can be the case across genres, as trailblazing comedies, dramas, and horror movies lay the foundations for subsequent movies to push cinematic boundaries into previously uncharted territory. This was why horror movies that once left viewers running from theaters now appear pretty mild compared to today's most shocking media representations.
Some of the most controversial movies of all time can feel pretty mild by todays standards, as filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and William Friedkin pushed audiences well past their comfort zones with truly subversive films. Other movies tested the limits of tolerance, and once shocking representations of LGBTQ+ characters no longer feel controversial at all. These changes in what constitutes a controversial film highlight just how much society has progressed over the past few decades and signaled positive social and political development.

How ‘The Crow’s Wings Got Clipped At The Box Office: Reboot Of Brandon Lee Cult Pic Bombs With $4.6M
After 16 years of fits and starts, a $50M reboot of 1994 goth thriller The Crow finally flew into theaters and dropped out of the sky with a disastrous $4.6M opening.
Forget about critics plucking the feathers from The Crow at 19%, those moviegoers who attended Thursday night, predominantly fans, slammed the movie on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak with one star, a 47% grade and a 36% definite recommend.
Lionsgate limited its skin in the game with a $10M North American acquisition and $15M P&a on this Rupert Sanders-directed take, starring burgeoning It and John Wick: Chapter 4 genre star Bill Skarsgård. At the end of the day, the studio stands to lose more — in the neighborhood of $30M — on its $110M-plus feature take of gonzo sci-fi video game Borderlands.

I’m somewhat bewildered over how outraged people have been over the new version of The Crow (don’t call it a remake!). Many are calling it a stain on the legacy of the late, great Brandon Lee, who infamously was killed in an on-set tragedy, but by examining the franchise as a whole, it’s clear that as far as these things go, the franchise has been exploited to death. There have been no less than five Crow movies at this point, and guess what? We’re going to rank them all! That said, as far as our Crow movies ranked list goes, they’re all varying degrees of bad outside the first movie and the new version, which isn’t half bad.

Ranking The Crow movies showcase the inconsistency of the franchise but the original 1994 film remains the best with unique visuals and strong performances. Despite its popularity, The Crow series lacks the box office success of other superhero franchises but holds a special place in pop culture. The later entries like The Crow: Wicked Prayer suffer in quality and failed to bring fresh ideas.
The Crow movies ranked highlight how wildly inconsistent the quality of the series can be. Inspite of the massive success that greeted Tim Burton's Batman movies, the 1990s was a grim time for comic book movies. For the most part, studios didn't take the genre seriously, leading to a line of duds like the 1990 Captain America or Spawn. A major outlier was The Crow, based on James O'Barr's deeply personal graphic novel of the same title. The movie's stylish visuals, excellent action sequences and awesome...

You can’t keep “The Crow” down. That’s kind of its whole thing. Naturally, the concept of the wronged dead who return from their grave seeking vengeance — inspired by James O’Barr’s comics of the same name — has sprung forth a franchise, which spans five total films since Alex Proyas’ iconic, stylish film debuted in 1994. The original film remains a heartbreaking watch after the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee, but it also holds up as a stunning, massively influential goth rock urban fantasy — not to mention an early comic book adaptation.
The rest of the “The Crow” movies? Well, they’re not quite so enduring, despite a steady stream of familiar faces in the casts, including Kirsten Dunst, Edward Furlong, Mia Kirschner, Fred Ward, David Boreanaz and now, Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs in the long-awaited remake.

After 25 years, Jason Biggs took advantage of one of his most memorable roles for some tongue-in-cheek marketing.
The American Pie star, who hosts Netflix‘s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, joked “there were no pies harmed” while filming the backing competition series, which is “safe for family viewing” and now available on the streamer.
“I’ve really wanted to host something in the food world,” Biggs told USA Today. “Of course, there’s the wink at the camera and the audience with me as a baking show host. And whenever I can’t think of something to say, I always have a pie joke in my back pocket that brings the house down.”
The show’s premiere comes after last month’s milestone anniversary of his breakout role in American Pie (1999), which has long been known for its eponymous scene, in which Biggs’ bumbling teen character Jim fornicates with an apple pie.
