Voting for the 2025 Emmys officially opened today, and Gold Derby has spotted several intriguing strategies, omissions, and oddities in the ballots, which are available to view on the Television Academy website.
When it comes to the writing and directing categories, a popular strategy is to submit as few options as possible, so as not to split the vote. (Remember how Succession would only submit a single episode in writing each year? It won that race four seasons in a row.) That's why we're so surprised to see ABC's boat-themed medical drama Doctor Odyssey flooding the ballot 11 different times for Best Drama Directing. If the show can't pinpoint one or two stand-out directors out of Jen Lynch, Our Lady J, Tessa Blake, Paris Barclay, Crystle Roberson Dorsey, Brad Buecker, Millicent Shelton, Michael Medico, Steven Canals, Maggie Kiley, and John J. Gray, how are the voters supposed to?

Max’s Sex and the City follow-up And Just Like That launches its twelve-episode third season on Max tonight after a red-carpet New York premiere on May 21, setting up weekly releases through August 14. Yet headlines focus on who is missing: Sara Ramírez’s non-binary comedian Che Diaz, a lightning-rod figure during the show’s first two years.
Star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker said recent press rounds left her “shocked” by the intensity of viewers’ dislike for Che, calling the backlash a reminder of how sharply social media can shape opinion. Parker added that the revival thrives on “messy truth,” suggesting the writers felt free to close some arcs and open others.
Ramírez will not appear this season after what showrunner Michael Patrick King describes as a completed narrative; Che’s breakup with Miranda Hobbes ended a story that “shook everything up, then reached its endpoint,” according to costar Cynthia Nixon.

[Editor’s note: The following story contains some spoilers for the “And Just Like That,” Season 3, Episode 1.]
Thirty years after the debut of “Sex and the City,” and newly-minted spin-off standout Rosie O’Donnell has some sage thoughts on how the series has changed, through the lens of sequel “And Just Like That.” O’Donnell appears in the first episode of “And Just Like That” Season 3, with Ben Travers’ IndieWire review applauding her “great guest arc” as Mary, a nun who loses her virginity to Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).
Critics have already been comparing Miranda’s role of helping Mary embrace her sexuality to that of her own relationship with her ex, Che Diaz (who famously helped Miranda realize she was queer in Season 1). Yet O’Donnell knows that her “And Just Like That” cameo could never have been included in “Sex and the City,” and not just because of Miranda being closeted at the time.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “And Just Like That” Season 3, Episode 1.
Since the very first episode of “Sex and the City,” HBO’s crown jewel has reveled in cringeworthy dating misadventures. In kicking off Season 3, “And Just Like That” fully embraces that tradition all thanks to Miranda.
Miranda’s latest questionable date is with Mary (Rose O’Donnell), a woman from outside Winnipeg who is stunned by Miranda’s beauty at a queer dating event. After exchanging some flirty banter, Mary invites Miranda to her hotel. It’s only after a night of passion that Miranda learns the disturbing truth about her latest hookup: not only was Mary a virgin, but she’s a nun.
“Miranda always had such disastrous dates back in the day. So it was funny and enjoyable to be back on the disastrous dating merry-go-round again,” Cynthia Nixon told TheWrap.
For Nixon, working with her longtime friend was “fantastic.

This post contains spoilers from And Just Like That season 3 episode 1 from this point forward.
It's been nearly two years since we last caught up with Carrie Bradshaw and the gang in And Just Like That, but they're finally back with season 3 on HBO Max. When we last left Carrie in season 2, she and Aidan rekindled their romance, but just when things were heating up, he needed to return home to be with his children. He asks Carrie to wait for him for five years. Five years!
Carrie believes she's up for the task, but she quickly learns that long-distance relationships and limited communication might be harder than she anticipated. She even butts heads with Anthony over it, but we'll get to that! Elsewhere in the And Just Like That season 3 premiere, Miranda has a fling with guest star Rosie O'Donnell, and Seema makes a big decision.

[This story contains spoilers from the And Just Like That season three premiere.]
After blowing up their central couple, And Just Like That has returned with a new chapter in its love story for Carrie and Aidan.
The sequel series had renewed the romance between Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her Sex and the City ex, but ended with the couple parting ways in the season two finale. Aidan (John Corbett) asked Carrie to wait five years so he could focus on being the primary parent to his youngest child. “We haven’t seen each other in 10 years and it went by like that (snaps his fingers),” Aidan told Carrie. When he repeated his five-year ask, he didn’t snap. “I already did and you didn’t see it; that’s how quick it was.”
Aidan was sure that the soulmates could make it work. Was it fair what he was asking of Carrie? Will Carrie wait?...

I can imagine a Carrie Bradshaw voiceover telling me that some things are just worth the wait. She’d be talking about a waiting list for a pair of great new shoes, an aging wine or a New York apartment, but we’d know that she was really telling us that women in their 50s, like her and her friends, were the subtext. This character loves a strained metaphor at least as much as she loves luxury accessories. And perhaps she’d try to persuade me that this metaphor also applies to her show, HBO Max’s “Sex and the City” reboot with the equally strained title “And Just Like That …,” which is returning Thursday for its third season in a wildly uneven run thus far.
As I approached watching this time around, I couldn’t help but wonder: How many chances are too many chances to grant a beloved franchise’s frenzied reboot?...

There's nothing like a good sports movie. Even at their worst, you can expect a rousing, feel-good romp or a fascinating deep dive into the mind of an athletically gifted individual. Hollywood has no shortage of stories in which a last-second shot or touchdown determines a character's fate, and audiences turn up in droves to see heroes like Rocky Balboa or Daniel Larusso overcome their demons and vanquish their opponents to achieve eternal fame and glory.
Still, fact often triumphs over fiction. The only thing better than watching Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) hit the game-winning home run in "The Natural" is seeing Scott Hatteberg (Chris Pratt) do the same in "Moneyball" -- and knowing it actually happened. True-life tales hit harder because they don't rely on fictional elements to deliver crowd-pleasing thrills. One could argue these stories are more powerful because they prove that magic is more than Hollywood hocus-pocus.

Rosie O’Donnell accused Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman of using Erik and Lyle Menendez for publicity, adding that “the truth [will] come out” in the brothers’ case.
In an interview with Andy Cohen, O’Donnell, who has advocated for the incarcerated siblings even before their case was revived by Netflix’s “Monsters” series, O’Donnell said, “I think the district attorney is using them for publicity.”
Referring to the clemency request put in to California Governor by previous Da George Gascón, she said she hoped that Gavin Newsom would “pay attention” to the public swell of support for the brothers and pardon them and/or commute their sentence down to manslaughter.” She pointed out, “They’ve already served almost 35 years.”
Hochman, who was elected in November 2024, has repeatedly stated that, despite corroboration from an additional victim and the support of most of the Menendez family, he does not believe Lyle and...

10 stars who were almost major parts of the Harry Potter world (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yup, the Wizarding World could’ve looked very different. When Hollywood caught Pottermania, everyone wanted a seat on the Hogwarts Express, including some huge stars who either passed, fizzled in auditions, or got magically recast.
From wizards who were nearly someone else to villains who just missed their dark mark, here are 10 actors who were this close to donning robes, casting spells, or sipping Butterbeer on set. Get ready for a wild game of “what if” that might just make you rewatch the movies with new faces in mind, at least in your imagination. Accio alternate timeline!

It's hard to imagine Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's hit sitcom "Seinfeld" missing any one of its four lead characters. Jerry (Seinfeld) was the shallow and neurotic one. George (Jason Alexander) was the shallow and neurotic one. Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) was the shallow and neurotic one. And Kramer (Michael Richards) was the shallow and neurotic one with the get-rich-quick schemes. Each of the four actors was nominated for multiple Emmys for their acting work on "Seinfeld," with Seinfeld receiving five noms, Alexander receiving seven, Louis-Dreyfus also receiving seven (and winning one), and Richards netting five and winning three. It couldn't be made today.
Weirdly, the character of Elaine wasn't in the pilot for "Seinfeld," called "The Seinfeld Chronicles". The fourth lead role was originally supposed to be a waitress named Claire, played by actress Lee Garlington, but the restaurant where she worked was re-tooled for the show's second episode,...

Sarah Jessica Parker is preparing for the return of Carrie Bradshaw in Season 3 of And Just Like That, while addressing the long-standing debate surrounding her character’s choices and contradictions. Appearing on Today With Jenna & Friends on April 21, Parker spoke about playing Carrie for nearly three decades and why she continues to embrace the character’s flaws.
“It’s been such a sort of extraordinary experience,” Parker said. “I try to describe it as being contractually obligated to play somebody else — be somebody else — for about 27 years, to behave in ways which would be illegal if I, as a married person with children, ways in which I would behave in the city or with men.”
Over the years, Carrie Bradshaw has attracted both strong support and frequent criticism. Her decisions—romantic, financial, and otherwise—have divided viewers since the original Sex and the City aired on HBO. Parker acknowledged the...

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell has revealed details about her surprising friendship with Lyle Menendez.
Menendez and his brother, Erik, made headlines when they were convicted of first-degree murder for the 1989 shooting of their parents. In the trial, both brothers alleged that they had been sexually abused by their father. After a mistrial in 1993, the brothers were convicted in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. They have continued to fight for their freedom, maintaining that they murdered their parents out of fear for their lives.
O’Donnell recently moved to Ireland to escape Donald Trump’s second term as president.
The Menendez brothers became a hot topic again following Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology crime drama Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, released in September 2024. While Murphy’s show became a smash hit on the streaming platform, Erik condemned the show for its portrayal of him and his brother as having an incestuous relationship.

Get those cosmos ready, polish up the Manolo Blahniks, and cover sensitive ears around you. And just like that… we have our first look at the third season of the Sex and the City spin-off from HBO and Max, along with a release date — and the good news is that we don't have much longer to wait. Season 3 of And Just Like That officially sashays onto our screens on May 29, bringing back the Manhattan chaos, couture, and complex convos that Carrie Bradshaw and co. made iconic.
The announcement came with a sneak peek at the new season, showing off big changes, bigger emotions, and — of course — plainly ridiculous fashion. It’s the beginning of a new chapter, with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) returning to her voiceover roots, literally writing a new book and giving audiences a more intimate glimpse into her world than ever before. But my god, look at all the shoes.

The third season of the “Sex and the City” revival series is also the first installment sans “controversial character” (in the words of series staple Cynthia Nixon) Che Diaz, who was played by Sara Ramirez. Che was a stand-up comedian who became the love interest of Miranda (Nixon) and kickstarted her coming out story.
And Season 3 of “And Just Like That” also picks up after Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) shocking cameo and Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) third split with Aidan (John Corbett). But don’t worry, Corbett is set to reprise his role for Season 3, along with series leads Parker, Nixon, and Kristin Davis. And he seems to be back with Carrie too…

At long last, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte are coming back. Max has released the trailer for Season 3 of “And Just Like That…” the streamer’s follow-up to “Sex and the City.”
The first trailer for the 12-episode season, which kicks off a weekly drop with its May 29 premiere, previews all the ladies kicking off new chapters in the summertime — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dives into the world of romantic fiction; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) takes on a new job and potential relationship; and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finds her daughter with a new romance blooming.
And, of course, there’s Aidan (John Corbett), who rekindled his romance with Carrie last season while navigating long distance woes. The clip teases some complications, so things aren’t completely sailing smoothly in New York City this summer. Especially for Carrie, who at one point in the video runs away from a pack of rats! “Prancing around like in ‘The Nutcracker,...

Since The View first aired, it has thrived on lively discussions, bold opinions, and a rotating panel of co-hosts who bring fresh perspectives.
Among those panelists, Whoopi Goldberg has stood out — not just for her name recognition but for her steady presence.
She’s been a fixture on the daytime talk show since 2007, taking over the seat once filled by Rosie O’Donnell. With her Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards, Goldberg brought unmatched star power and a unique voice to the table.
But now, nearly two decades later, questions are swirling: Could Whoopi be the next to step away?
According to reports, contracts for three co-hosts — Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sunny Hostin — are up for renewal at the end of Season 28. And the buzz around Goldberg’s possible departure has only grown louder.

Chelsea O’Donnell, daughter of View alumna Rosie O’Donnell, has petitioned to change her last name following a dispute over her mother’s $80 million will.
Chelsea recently went to jail on drug charges, which were eventually dropped after she agreed to probation.
Chelsea, 27, filed the paperwork in January asking to go by her birth mother’s maiden name, Neuens, according to the court documents. Rosie, 63, addressed her daughter’s decision in a 30-stanza Substack poem posted.
“She wishes to change her last name / to her birth mother’s maiden name / doesn’t make sense to me, I am not her,” she wrote in her free-verse poem, titled “My child Chelsea.” Rosie also discussed her daughter’s struggles in the public eye, noting that she is doing so well now, “Rain or shine / same name or not / that’s my girl / fierce and determined.”
