Voting for the 2025 Emmys officially opened today, and Gold Derby has spotted several intriguing strategies, omissions, and oddities in the ballots, which are available to view on the Television Academy website.

When it comes to the writing and directing categories, a popular strategy is to submit as few options as possible, so as not to split the vote. (Remember how Succession would only submit a single episode in writing each year? It won that race four seasons in a row.) That's why we're so surprised to see ABC's boat-themed medical drama Doctor Odyssey flooding the ballot 11 different times for Best Drama Directing. Max’s Sex and the City follow-up And Just Like That launches its twelve-episode third season on Max tonight after a red-carpet New York premiere on May 21, setting up weekly releases through August 14. Yet headlines focus on who is missing: Sara Ramírez’s non-binary comedian Che Diaz, a lightning-rod figure during the show’s first two years.

Star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker said recent press rounds left her “shocked” by the intensity of viewers’ dislike for Che, calling the backlash a reminder of how sharply social media can shape opinion. Studio Ghibli’s ‘Ponyo,’ the films of Laika and a celebration of Marilyn Monroe are among the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures new exhibitions that will open in 2026.

Studio Ghibli’s “Ponyo” will focus on the animation process and highlight a donation of original production materials that Ghibli made to the Academy Collection. The second exhibition, titled “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” will be a centennial celebration of the actress that will examine her public image through original screen-used costumes, photographs, personal items and more.

Chelsea recently went to jail on drug charges, which were eventually dropped after she agreed to probation.

Chelsea, 27, filed the paperwork in January asking to go by her birth mother’s maiden name, Neuens, according to the court documents. Rosie, 63, addressed her daughter’s decision in a 30-stanza Substack poem posted.
