  • Early in his career, he wrote advertising jingles for such clients as State Farm Insurance, McDonalds, Dr. Pepper soda and Stri-Dex anti-acne medicine.
  • Contrary to popular belief, his signature tune "I Write the Songs" was not written by him, but by (Beach Boy) Bruce Johnston. The song ousted the Bill Fries (C.W. McCall) hit "Convoy" from the US number one position in January 1976.
