Keke Palmer Avoids Nudity in Film, Focuses on Next Project
Keke Palmer
Keke Palmer has built a career across multiple genres, but there is one aspect of acting she has avoided.

In a conversation with The Independent, Palmer discussed her hesitation toward nudity in film and television. “Just because I’m so shy and, you know, embarrassed,” she said. “And to know that people are going to be able to have [those scenes] forever? I could never have the confidence to do something like that! I’m not that bold.”

Palmer has often been recognized for her humor and sharp comedic timing. Despite this, she described a different side of herself. “On a deep level, I think I’ve always been the kind of person that’s felt very lonely or had these big emotions,” she said. “And I always say that people who are considered comedians, or people that make people laugh, they’re not necessarily seen as serious. Usually, though, they’re...

‘Angels in America’ 20th anniversary: A look back at its 2004 Emmy Awards sweep
Image
Before the age of Primetime Emmy Awards sweeps for comedy “Schitt’s Creek” and drama “The Crown” – a trend that could very well continue this year by either “The Bear” or “Shōgun” – there was “Angels in America.” The HBO miniseries adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tony Kushner won 11 Emmys back in 2004 and famously took home the prizes in all seven top categories, making it the very first program to do so. This year’s 76th annual ceremony marks the 20th anniversary of the show’s historic night. To celebrate Kushner’s birthday on July 16, let’s flashback to that epic Emmys sweep.

The television adaptation followed just 10 years after the premiere of both plays on Broadway in 1993. Those original productions of “Millennium Approaches” and “Perestroika” nabbed seven Tony Awards combined, including two wins for Best Play, one for director George C. Wolfe, one for actor Ron Liebman as Roy Cohn,...

‘Interview with the Vampire’ Just Dropped the Most Audacious TV Episode of the Year
Image
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Interview With the Vampire” Season 2, Episode 7, “I Could Not Prevent It.”]

For as much as I admire the incredible seventh episode of “Interview With the Vampire” Season 2, I cannot, in good faith, suggest other shows follow its lead. There are too many trapdoors lurking just behind the stage curtains, too many tonal shifts to ride out without being thrown from one’s motorcycle, and, quite frankly, too much patience required of the audience, human or vampire, given streaming executives think what viewers really want is a show that only requires half their attention. But despite all these challenges, “Iwtv” persevered, the hard work of its true-blue theater troupe paying off in Episode 7, “I Could Not Prevent It” — an audacious endeavor that deserves to be recognized as one of the year’s most rewarding and remarkable hours of television.

"I assumed going into this that it truly was a franchise, and that the Immortal Universe and the Anne Rice world was somehow more connected. But in a strange way, with the shows that were making and developing, they arent directly connected," he said. "With that said, were discovering that there are some characters that it does work with. Image
There were rumors that a third show might be on the way, and AMC has now officially announced that Anne Rice's Immortal Universe will expand with a new series based around the shadowy organization known as the Talamasca.

Spinning out of the events of Interview With the Vampire and The Mayfair Witches, the new show “will feature the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, werewolves and other creatures scattered around the globe.”

The network has ordered for a six-episode first season, which is expected to premiere on AMC and AMC+ sometime in 2025.

If you've been keeping up with the other shows, you'll be aware that two members of the Talamasca have already been introduced. Ciprien Grieve (Tongayi Chirisa), an agent specifically assigned to monitor Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario), debuted on Mayfair Witches, and Raglan James, aka The Body Theif (Justin Kirk), approached Daniel Molloy...

It's Time for Justin Kirk to be a Star
Image
In Hear Me Out, Primetimer staffers and contributors passionately espouse their pet theories, spicy takes, and even the occasional galaxy-brain idea.

Twice a year, television journalists gather in a hotel ballroom in Pasadena, Calif. while networks and studios preview their upcoming slates. It's a phenomenon known within the industry as the Television Critics Association press tour and at this February's gathering, there was one moment in particular that caused the room to collectively gasp: the reveal of the extended Interview With the Vampire Season 2 trailer. The preview was stunning in spectacle and an excellent showcase of what is coming down the pipe in the upcoming season, but the generator of most of the excitement was the blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpse at Justin Kirk in the new footage.

Interview with the Vampire Episode 3: Who Is Raglan James?
Image
This article contains spoilers for Interview with the Vampire episode 3 and Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels.

AMC’s Interview with the Vampire episode 3 “No Pain” introduces a character from a future book in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe. In the opening scene, Daniel Molloy’s (Eric Bogosian) ongoing study of the undead is intercepted by “a live one.” The stranger implies knowledge of dubious doings behind the scenes in the insular vampire world. The long-form journalist wonders who this interloper is, and even scribbles “MI6?” on his notepad. He’s not that far off. Raglan James (Justin Kirk) certainly does belong to a secret organization, but he could also be anyone.

Anne Rice lets the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) tell the story of Raglan James, the title character of The Tale of the Body Thief, the fourth book in The Vampire Chronicles. It begins in Miami, a “city of water,...

Interview With The Vampire Show Cast & Character Guide
Image
Season two of Interview With The Vampire introduces new characters and a major change in the main cast. The story of season two follows Louis and Claudia as they explore vampiric connections in Europe. Lead actors deliver nuanced performances, balancing sympathy and terror while modernizing with Anne Rice's novels.

The second season of AMC's Interview With The Vampire is set to introduce exciting new characters and bring about a major change in the main cast. The series premiered in 2022 and was met with critical acclaim from viewers and critics alike, holding an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%. Many reviews praised the lead actors for their nuanced performances, which toe the line between sympathetic and terrifying, often simultaneously. While the show is adapted from Anne Rice's classic novels, it also takes some creative liberties to modernize the source material and highlight the subtext of the books on screen.

Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire Part II TV Review
Image
Plot: As Louis and Claudia escape to Paris after killing Lestat, and are ready to embark on new relationships in the new city. But they find themselves in a world influenced by Lestat, especially when they join the Theatre de Vampires, a performing group found by Lestat.

Review: Timed perfectly to Halloween, the 2022 debut of Interview with the Vampire beautifully updated the first volume in Anne Rice’s vast series for a new generation. With a young cast and a more overt take on the homoerotic elements of the novels, AMC’s series was designed to kickstart a cinematic universe of adaptations from the author’s works. While Mayfair Witches did not work as well, the second season of Interview with the Vampire is a welcome return to the stories of Louis, Claudia, Lestat, and more. Billed as “Part II,” the second season chronicles the back half of Rice’s novel.

Stunning ‘Interview With the Vampire’ Trailer Shows Lestat’s Grip on Louis & Armand (Video)
Image
Interview With the Vampire just dropped the best trailer you’ll see all season. Cut by series creator Rolin Jones, the three-minute Interview With the Vampire Season 2 trailer shows passionate moments between Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Armand (Assad Zaman) as their relationship develops, but underscoring it all is Lestat’s (Sam Reid) haunting presence and flashbacks to his time before Louis, a time when he met Armand and seemingly had an intimate relationship, and a building intensity of the Dubai interview in 2022. As if that weren’t enough, the trailer also reveals flashbacks to young Daniel Molloy’s (Luke Brandon Field) original interview with Louis in San Francisco in 1973. “You don’t understand the meaning of your own story!” the young journalist yells, directly referencing a line from Anne Rice‘s original novel of the same name. It also reveals Succession‘s Justin Kirk speaking to present-day Daniel (Eric Bogosian) in a mystery role.

Men of ‘Succession’ poised to set SAG Awards record
Image
Two years ago, “Succession” earned all of its first three Best TV Drama Actor SAG Award nominations at once and thus made history as the first series to take up that many slots in one of said category’s annual lineups. Unfortunately, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong all ended up losing that contest to Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), but each now has a final chance at redemption. In fact, Gold Derby’s SAG Awards odds indicate that the concluded HBO program is on the verge of racking up an unprecedented four individual male bids in 2024, with a five-slot sweep also well within the realm of possibility.

More than three-quarters of our SAG Awards predictors are backing Culkin in this year’s drama actor race, while his on-screen sister, Sarah Snook, has even more support in the corresponding female category. Our current male top five further includes Strong as...

‘Succession’ production designer Stephen H. Carter reveals how they pulled off ‘America Decides’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
When “Succession” director Andrij Parekh heard what show creator Jesse Armstrong had planned for the final season’s eighth episode, “America Decides,” he admitted to being “terrified” due to the logistics involved in creating a full-blown presidential election. For the show’s acclaimed production designer, Stephen H. Carter, the “fear was that we wouldn’t be able to pull off the scale of that in a single episode.”

Carter – a four-time Emmy nominee who was once again nominated for “Succession” this year thanks to “America Decides” – reveals to Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview that the research process that went into creating the Atn newsroom started maybe a month before the crew even had a finished script. “It was looking pretty challenging,” he says. “We pitched a control room connected to a studio set, with some hallways in between, you know, things like that. But none of them had...

Weeds: Elizabeth Perkins Is Ready for a Revival of the Showtime Comedy Series
Another player is interested in returning to Weeds. The possibility of a revival was first reported in May. Showtime is developing a revival of the popular comedy-drama series that aired on the cable network for eight seasons between 2005-12. Christian Torpe would write and executive produce the series.

Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Hunter Parrish, Kevin Nealon, Alexander Gould, Justin Kirk, Andy Milder, Allie Grant, and Romany Malco starred in the original series. Parker is set to return for the new incarnation. The original comedy follows housewife and mom Nancy Botwin (Parker) as she finds creative ways to support her family after the death of her husband. The revival would reportedly take Nancy to Copenhagen.

Elizabeth Perkins Reveals Whether She'd Return for Weeds Revival
Elizabeth Perkins
If the long-gestating Weeds Revival gets the green light, another original star is interested in stepping back into the world of Nancy Botwin.

Elizabeth Perkins appeared in five of eight seasons during the show's initial run on Showtime.

In an interview with Variety, Perkins stressed that the new project was very much "talk" at this early stage in development.

The Afterparty Season 2 star admitted she would be ecstatic to get the opportunity to work with her former co-stars.

"I loved working with Mary-Louise Parker," she added.

"I love those two characters together, Nancy and Celia!"

Indeed, fans would be interested in checking back in with Celia, who was missing from the show's final three seasons.

By the end of Weeds' eight-season run, the series had changed so much that many of the original elements of the show were missing.

Bringing the series back will be a big task, especially when...

Elizabeth Perkins is high on reprising her role as Celia in Showtime’s possible Weeds revival.

In May, it was reported that the premium cabler — on which all eight seasons of the Og series aired from 2005 to 2012 — is developing a sequel series that would feature the return of Mary-Louise Parker’s Nancy Botwin. (The project had previously been in the works at Starz.)

Emmy Experts Typing: Could ‘Succession’ break its own acting nomination record?
Image
Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we wonder how many acting nominations “Succession” can score on a restricted ballot.

Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s the Friday before we make our final Emmy nominations predictions next week, so what better time than now to take one last look at the drama race before our actual last look? I’m not sure if people reading our weekly column realize this, but we both loved “Succession.” It’s true! I would say it’s not just my favorite show of the year but perhaps of forever. So I start here with that bit of throat-clearing to give some perspective on what I’m going to type here: I think people might be underestimating the total number of acting...

How ‘Succession’ can enter the Emmy record books with a win for Kieran Culkin
Image
When Kieran Culkin confirmed in late April that he will submit in Best Drama Actor at the Emmys for the fourth and final season of “Succession” after two supporting bids, it set off a flurry of reactions. One was that it’s the correct call, given the increased focus on Roman (Culkin), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Shiv (Sarah Snook) this season in the wake of Logan’s (Brian Cox) death in the third episode. Another was that he would split the vote with Strong, the 2020 champ, and Cox, who later confirmed he was staying in lead, paving the way for someone else to triumph. But if either Culkin or Cox pulls out the win, though the latter seems less likely, “Succession” will join rarefied air as one of just two series to win the category for two different people.

Eleven dramas have nabbed multiple wins in the Best Drama Actor category,...

Will ‘Succession’ break its own Emmy record for most acting nominations? It has 19 performers on the ballot
Image
In 2022 “Succession” made history by earning 14 acting nominations at the Emmys. That’s the most any show has ever received in a single year. That number was especially remarkable as it came from 16 acting submissions on the Emmy ballot, meaning only two submitted performers failed to make the cut (supporting actor Alan Ruck and guest actor Justin Kirk). In 2023 the show has submitted more actors for consideration (19). So will the show break its own record by earning 15 or more acting noms?

Exclusive: Mary-Louise Parker Talks Weeds Reboot and Why Poker Face Is the Best
Image
Earlier this year, Showtime confirmed to be working on revival series for two of its biggest hits, Weeds and Nurse Jackie with Mary Louise-Parker and Edie Falco set to return to play the main characters in both continuations.

Remakes, reboots, revivals, or late sequels are all too common today in Hollywood, but that doesn't mean they all work well. In fact, in most cases, they seem to fall short of the original content, especially if they come much later because the contexts are so different.

Speaking particularly of the Weeds revival, actor Justin Kirk was skeptical of the project's chances to be successful (via Variety), and in an exclusive chat with MovieWeb, Mary-Louise Parker acknowledges that her co-star has a point:

“Yeah, he's right. Leave it to Justin, wow. I mean, I wish I knew one way or the other if it was happening. I think it would have to be reinvented because,...
