At the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Highest 2 Lowest” in May, all eyes were on the crime drama’s fourth lead: A$AP Rocky. The “Everyday” rapper’s very presence at the Palais sent photographers into a frenzy before he and partner Rihanna were whisked away to the film’s exclusive beach party, followed by an early-morning yacht bash sponsored by Ray-Ban. Despite all the fanfare and a riveting performance in which Rocky held his own opposite two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington, “Highest 2 Lowest” barely made a whimper at the box office when it arrived in roughly 300 theaters on Aug. 15. Dracula is back on the big screen with a vengeance, courtesy of none other than Romanian provocateur Radu Jadu (Kontinental ’25, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World). Befitting the iconoclastic filmmaker’s reputation, of course, he is taking you on a bloody wild and absurd, dare we say — insane — cinematic ride to explore the legendary cinema myth in Dracula, world premiering in the competition program of the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on Aug. 10. In the process, he aims to not only dissect Dracula, but cinema itself.

In fact, with the movie made on Dracula’s home turf, namely Transylvania, Jude really sinks his teeth into the most famous vampire and different dimensions of his image, as well as AI. After all, the film shows a young filmmaker working with an AI system to craft various filmic takes on Dracula.

The memoir promises to deliver the story of “fame, fatherhood and the private cost of public life — from one of pop culture’s most misunderstood figures,” according to a press release.

The couple was married from 2004 to 2007, and they share sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18. He is also dad to daughter Kori, 23, and son Kaleb, 21, with ex Shar Jackson.

Britney Spears became a pop sensation in the early 2000s, developing a girl-next-door image. However, when Spears signed on for the 2002 comedy-drama Crossroads, she was ready to shed that image and fought to keep a PG-13-rated steamy scene in the movie, which is now available on Netflix.

She wanted to [challenge] that image that she’s this forever virgin girl. A kid would not know what the heck is going on! That was a fight I’m happy we won.

Director Tamra Davis made the above statement to Entertainment Weekly, admitting that the scene was a massive risk for Spears’ public image at the time. Despite the steamy scene, Crossroads has mostly fallen out of the pop culture consciousness in the last two decades, but that hasn’t stopped David from being hopeful for a sequel.

The world is ending and nobody cares in Ick, Joseph Kahn’s latest genre offering after 2017’s Bodied and 2011’s Detention. Despite only making four features in 20 years, Kahn is ubiquitous in pop culture from his background in directing music videos for major artists like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. He also directed 2004’s Torque, a film received so disastrously even he pokes fun at it. That might explain why, after making one studio film, he’s directed all of his following films independently––including Ick, a riotous take on the creature feature and a scathing satire of society’s apathetic attitude in the face of existential threats.

It takes almost no time to see that Ick is very much Kahn’s own creation. This film runs rampant without a single studio note.
