Though the series ended only five years ago, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a show from a different television era. The Marvel live-action series ran on ABC for 136 episodes across seven seasons, had five seasons with 20-plus episodes, and ended on its own terms. Nowadays, achieving any of those feats on TV is rare. Not to mention, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is also the last show from the previous Marvel Television division that was independent of Marvel Studios.
The show’s final two seasons had 13 episodes each. These followed a fifth season that acted as a final season before ABC ultimately renewed it. The season 5 finale is even titled “The End” and plays out as the conclusion to Phil Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team and its journey.

The MGM+ drama Emperor of Ocean Park is full of scandal and family tension. Judge Oliver Garland loses a nomination to the Supreme Court, and decades later, unexpectedly dies. His daughter Mariah Garland-Denton, played by Tiffany Mack, is convinced that her father was killed and will do anything to uncover the truth. Based on the novel by Stephen L. Carter, the TV series has offered plenty of suspense all season.
In an interview with Cbr ahead of the Sept. 15 finale, Tiffany Mack discusses who inspired her portrayal of Mariah. She also reflects on the complicated family dynamics in Emperor of Ocean Park and how she approached them with her co-stars. There has long been a continued debate over whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set in the Sacred Timeline of the MCU. The possibility has gotten an update from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Winderbaum spoke about the show's status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, acknowledging how the TV series did hint at MCU connections. However, while not outright giving a clear answer, Winderbaum said that the series "fits into The Multiverse Saga," seemingly hinting that the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are set in a different timeline, but could still potentially connect to the MCU through the multiverse. With that teased, the executive couldn't quite guarantee that either, hinting that there was no rush to revisit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., even with great appreciation for the series.

Adapted from Stephen L. Carter’s acclaimed novel, The Emperor of Ocean Park looks at the lingering impact of one man on his family. Renowned federal judge Oliver Garland, portrayed powerfully by Forest Whitaker, was a figure who commanded respect far beyond the courtroom. His unexpected death leaves behind many unanswered questions for his three adult children.
Tal, played by Grantham Coleman, is a law professor at the University of Chicago trying to unravel the mystery surrounding their father’s final wishes. Joining the search is his sister Mariah, brought to life by Tiffany Mack. She never lost her curiosity from her days as an investigative journalist. And rounding out the siblings is Addison, portrayed with depth by Henry Simmons.
Together, the three embark on a journey of discovery in their hometown of Chicago. Piecing together memories of their father, they aim to solve the riddle around these “arrangements.” But as secrets come to light,...

When law professor Tal (Grantham Coleman) enters his childhood home ahead of his father’s funeral, his young son Bentley (Dyllan Yelverton) turns to him with curiosity. “Is Grandpa going to be a ghost?” he asks. No, Tal responds. “So he won’t haunt us?” Tal patiently replies that he doesn’t think so.
As it turns out, Tal will be right on the first count and wrong on the second. MGM+’s Emperor of Ocean Park is not the sort of story in which spirits return to wreak supernatural havoc. It is, however, entirely about the ways in which Tal and his siblings are haunted by the memory of their dad, conservative judge Oliver Garland (Forest Whitaker), in ways that lend themselves to both Grishamesque thrills and Succession-lite angst. But even Whitaker’s innate gravitas can only do so much to fight gravity. Eventually, the drama sags under the weight of its messy ambition.

"Is there something on your conscience you want to talk about?" MGM+ has revealed an official trailer for a new streaming series titled Emperor of Ocean Park, arriving to watch starting in July this summer. It's adapted from the bestselling novel "The Emperor of Ocean Park" written by Stephen L. Carter. It follows Talcott Garland, whose tranquil existence is upended by the death of his father. Mariah Denton, a former journalist and ardent conspiracy theorist, questions the manner of his death and thinks he might have been the victim of foul play. Created by Sherman Payne, the series is based on the book of the same name, and is set in two privileged worlds: "the upper crust African American society of the Eastern seabord — families who summer at Martha's Vineyard — and the inner circle of an Ivy League law school." "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was a changed show in its second season. In its early days, the Marvel Television series suffered from an identity crisis. Season 1 started out trying to emulate co-creator Joss Whedon's previous work, yet it played as a pale imitation of shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and especially "Firefly," following a ragtag team of misfits on weekly adventures in their flying home base. However, the one-two combo punch of Whedon stepping away from the series and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" blowing up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's status quo near the end of season 1 proved to be just the creative boost the show needed.
Upon returning for season 2, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had gained a newfound confidence. Its characters began to take on greater dimensions, it really embraced the idea of being a show about everyday people trying to keep the world safe, and it even started...

With Marvel Studios officially recognizing Netflix's Defenders Saga as Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, fans remain hopeful that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be the next pre-Disney+ Marvel series to be added to the sacred timeline. One star of the popular ABC series, Jeff Ward, recently opened up about what it would take to get him to come back as his MCU character, Deke Shaw.
Speaking with Agents of Fandom at Toronto Comicon, Ward addressed whether he was interested in reprising his role as Deke Shaw in an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. revival. "Yeah, but only if he was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D., because that’s where we last left him, so he’d have to be in charge," the actor said, revealing his one condition on returning to the MCU. "But, I would love to of course, I love S.H.

Thirty years ago today, on September 21, 1993, at 10/9c, NYPD Blue premiered on ABC.
However, its debut didn't necessarily mean it reached every household.
The controversial series premiered to apocalyptic fanfare, with critics wondering if the series would usher in the end of TV as viewers knew it.
It’s funny the things you remember from your youth. I was at the age where the idea of a series willing to push the envelope, delivering a taste of the big screen on the small, sounded like an excellent idea.
They say that all publicity is good publicity, but people around the country were so concerned about the effect the show may have on the morals of the everyman that 57 local stations around the country refused to air the premiere.
A month later, there were still 45 ABC affiliates who, due to the possibility of coarse language and nudity, were still not airing it.

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Adrianne Palicki recently discussed the ABC series' unrealized spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted, hinting that she thinks canceling the show may have been a mistake on Disney's part.
Palicki starred on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Barbara "Bobbi" Morse, who Marvel Comics fans will also know as Mockingbird and/or Agent 19. During an interview with Den of Geek, the actor fondly recalled her time playing Bobbi Morse, saying she "loved" working on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and remains good friends with co-stars Ming-Na Wen, Henry Simmons and Nick Blood. Notably, Blood would have starred opposite Palicki on Most Wanted, which shot a pilot but was never picked up as a full series.

Actor Adrianne Palicki is one of that select group of actors who has had a foot in both the Marvel and DC universes onscreen. While her DC adventures did not work out so well – she played the title character in an unsold Wonder Woman pilot for NBC and appeared as a villain in an (also unsold) Aquaman pilot for The CW – her time with Marvel was more successful.

It's pretty incredible how "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," a television spin-off of the central agency who brought the Avengers together, evolved beyond its constraints, and became one of the most interesting success stories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it first started airing, a swath of people were ready for it to get the axe after the first season, only for it to last for over 130 episodes across seven seasons.
One of the largest reasons why "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." defied the odds was because of its tremendous ensemble. Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Brett Dalton, Henry Simmons, and Natalia Córdova-Buckley were all instrumental in making this off-branch of the Marvel universe worth following beyond waiting for an "Iron Man" cameo.

When you look at the history of how the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to be, the casting of Robert Downey Jr. was viewed as a very risky decision. And now we can't imagine anyone else but him as "Iron Man." It is undoubtedly one of Marvel Studios' greatest successes, and in the years to come, the growing interest in the MCU would help turn more niche comic book titles into megablockbuster hits ("Guardians of the Galaxy").
At this point, the MCU has essentially reached a point where its projects no longer need to prove themselves in order to be successful. "Iron Man" was, by all accounts, a miracle that led to Marvel Studios' domination. When we talk about surprises under the Marvel banner, especially given how quickly folks seemed to turn on it, I would argue that one of Marvel's greatest success stories is one that we don't really talk about as much.

Before Disney+ and Kevin Feige brought television series into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" was a fan-favorite network television underdog. Born out of 2012's "The Avengers," the show followed a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents assembled by a newly not-dead Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). Thanks to a strong fanbase, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." survived cancellation multiple times with rallying cries on social media like #CoulsonLives and #SaveAgentsOfSHIELD.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had a rough start, but then "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" hit theaters, revealing the McU's biggest twist thus far. Since S.H.I.E.L.D.'s inception, Hydra had moles on the inside. The show's story exploded from there, exploring how these street-level agents grapple with the aftermath. What started as a seemingly typical network "villain of the week" formula became a great companion piece to the movies. As the seasons progressed, the...

Amidst the crushing punishment Hurricane Ida lashed New Orleans and the Gulf Coast with this weekend, Ava DuVernay is today trying to find out how members of Cherish The Day‘s crew are holding up in the devastation.
Three days after the OWN drama told cast and crew to evacuate Crescent City as raging Ida moved towards landfall, the Oscar nominee took to social media Monday with the hashtag
#AllEyesOnLouisiana after being unable to get in touch with various crew members:
No power. Sewage out. No water. Nearly 1 million structures in Louisiana affected. It’s 89 degrees there as I type this. Jefferson Parish estimates 20 days to restore power. We haven’t heard from any crew member west of Orleans Parish. No cell/internet. Why isn’t this trending?
— Ava DuVernay (@ava) August 30, 2021
Does the media have to tell us what’s important to pay attention to? Does the government have to tell us?...

As Hollywood continues its ongoing fight for increased diversity and representation across the industry, disability is rarely included.
Entrepreneur and disability activist Keely Cat-Wells is teaming up with major Hollywood figures to urge movie studios to hire a permanent disability officer. Amy Poehler and Naomie Harris are among over 80 names who have signed an open letter being sent across Hollywood on Wednesday.
“If you show the injustice of the system and say, ‘Look, here’s a way forward,’ it makes it more difficult for people to ignore,” says “James Bond” star Harris in support of the letter.
Cat-Wells is the founder of the Los Angeles-based talent agency, C Talent, which represents d/Deaf and disabled artists and athletes globally.
Her passion for representing these artists came when she was denied an acting job due to her own disability. As a college student, Cat-Wells began to experience severe stomach pains, which...

The McU is a very different place from where it was a decade ago when the first few movies in the franchise came out. At that time, Clark Gregg played a pivotal role in the series as Phil Coulson, an agent of the secret organization S.H.I.E.L.D., tasked with bringing together the Avengers. Coulson eventually spun off with his own tv show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and was not a part of the end of the Infinity War saga. During a recent interview, Gregg expressed his regret over the fact that his show never got to crossover with the movies.
"I was like, 'Come on, you haven't done a one-shot.' Why couldn't there be a really cool one-shot where they're on a mission, we're on a mission... 'Oops!' You know?"
It has long been a source of grievance for fans that the McU completely ignored Marvel TV shows,...

Henry Simmons spent five years bringing Agent Alphonso Mackenzie to life, but the character existed before Agents Of Shield added him to the series in its second season. Mack is a Marvel comic book character first, meaning there's quite a bit of history between him and Shield.

Exclusive: “I want to say that because this was our last season and because there was an underlying nostalgia, we really went for it with stories,” says Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer and co-showrunner Jeffrey Bell of the final season of the ABC superspy drama that kicked off tonight. “I mean, we took chances. There’s a lot of fun things that we would’ve never attempted earlier in the show and I’m really curious to see how fans respond to some of those bolder choices.”
“There are some bold choices, that’s for sure,” notes fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep and co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen with a trace of no small amount of secrets to be revealed in her voice.

We’ve got exactly a week to go until Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to our screens for its seventh and final season. To cap off the show on a high note, the resurrected Phil Coulson and his crew are heading back into the past in order to stop the evil time-traveling Chronicoms. Trailers have given us a flavor of what we can expect, but this new clip offers up our first sneak peek at the season premiere.
The 90-second clip drops Coulson (Clark Gregg), Daisy (Chloe Bennet), Mack (Henry Simmons) and Deke (Jeff Ward) in 1930s New York. “It’s the Great Depression,” the Lmd Coulson explains. “A decade before Pearl Habor, almost four decades before Apollo 11. These people have never even seen a TV.”
The gang then go on to have that time travel fiction staple: the conversation about being careful with how they change history. Daisy mentions...

ABC has released the trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 one month ahead of its May 27th premiere date. The entire Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gang is back for the final season of Marvel's ABC series, including series regulars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennett, Elizabeth Henstridge, Ian De Caestecker, and Henry Simmons. We’ve now got less than a month to go until Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its seventh and final season. And to mark the occasion, a new trailer has been released which teases Phil Coulson and his crew’s all-important final mission – they must change the past to save the future. In other words, it’s time for some time travel.

We then get a burst of shots showcasing the resurrected Coulson (Clark Gregg) – he’s an Lmd now, remember – and his gang – including Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet...
