15 Side Characters in Game of Thrones You Completely Forgot Existed
Image
For eight seasons, Game of Thrones developed an incredibly extensive cast filled with some of the most memorable characters in modern television. Names like Cersei, Tyrion, and Daenerys became well-known even to people who hadn't seen the show, due simply to its enormous impact on pop culture at the time. They became so popular that real-world people even began giving their children names like Lyanna and Khaleesi.

However, along with these important figures, a vast multitude of side characters are scattered throughout the series. Some of them were naturally more memorable than others, even if all of them were somewhat relevant to the overarching narrative. In addition, there are also a few characters who played critically important roles in the show but are rarely thought of, with some even forgotten entirely.

Updated on March 4, 2025, by Ajay Aravind: Although Game of Thrones doesn't have a single protagonist, the series includes dozens of main characters.

10 Prequel Movies That Are Seriously Underrated
Image
Some of the most iconic prequel movies out there have been overlooked for far too long. Whether this is because of a disappointing performance at the box office or because they didn't connect with audiences as well as the original, prequels have often struggled in theaters and in terms of critical reception. It's easier for spinoffs or the best legacy movie sequels to carve out their places within the franchise, but prequels often have a more difficult time standing out. However, this also means that many prequels have been reevaluated and hailed as great works of art on their own.

The best prequel movies of all time often feel less like origin stories and more like natural continuations of the adventures of the previous films. Prequels will often strike a different tone and even break out into another genre to distinguish themselves from the movies they're based on. This ensures...

Before Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam Headlined This Underrated Period Piece
Image
Queer As Folk gave Charlie Hunnam international recognition that he didn't expect. Many years later, Hunnam was the face of Sons of Anarchy. However, fans may be surprised to learn that between these two projects, he starred in a Charles Dickens adaptation. The Victorian drama took him back to England, where he played the titular Nicolas Nickleby. It was his first time taking a lead role.

Opposite from the ragged bad boy the actor is now known for, Nicholas is a pure-hearted person. He's the kind of person who always makes the right decisions. As a hero figure in the film, Nicholas stands up for Smike, a disabled boy who's being punished and abused, and later takes him in. He abandons a career in theater to rush home and save his sister. Upon meeting a penniless girl trying to pay her father's debt by selling her painting, Nicholas also jumps in to offer his help.

Gravitas has revealed the official US trailer for a film from the UK titled The Score, which is playing in theaters now and out on VOD next week. Two small time crooks, Mike & Troy, are on a mission – the "score" – that they both expect will transform their lives. ‘Christopher Robin’ Review
Stars: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Bronte Carmichael, Mark Gatiss, Oliver Ford Davies, Ronke Adekoluejo, Adrian Scarborough, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Ken Nwosu, John Dagleish, Amanda Lawrence | Written by Alex Ross Perry, Tom McCarthy, Allison Schroeder | Directed by Marc Forster

Disney’s Christopher Robin, starring Ewan McGregor and Haylee Atwell and directed by Marc Forster, is not to be confused with the recent release of Goodbye Christopher Robin a year previous that explores the true story of the conception of A.A. Milne’s beloved characters and the torturous family dynamics and abuse sustained at the hands of at the time unknown and undiagnosed mental health issues.

Disney’s adaption is a completely original and fictional take on the tale of Winnie the Pooh and friends in an adventure primarily aimed at the target audience for children, that never exceeds the boundary of the genre and crafts itself in beautiful pregnancy. Both make an...

"I've cracked..." Disney has unveiled the teaser trailer for their new take on Winnie the Pooh, titled simply Christopher Robin, from director Marc Forster. Andy Serkis' Breathe Trailer Unites Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy
Andy Serkis
Bleecker Street has released the first trailer and photo for their amazing true story adaptation Breathe, starring Andrew Garfield as the incredible Robin Cavendish, and Claire Foy as his wife Diana. Robin Cavendish was one of the longest-living "responauts," those who are permanently dependent on a mechanical ventilator to keep breathing, after he was stricken with polio at the age of 28. This trailer could be our first look at a potential awards season favorite, which also marks the directorial debut of Andy Serkis.

For his directorial debut, Andy Serkis brings to life the inspiring true love story between Robin and Diana Cavendish (Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy), an adventurous couple who refuse to give up in the face of a devastating disease. When Robin is struck down by polio at the age of 28, he is confined to a hospital bed and given only a few months to live. With the help...

The Queen Of Thorns Plots Against Cersei In Game Of Thrones Season 6 Deleted Scene
Game Of Thrones Season 6 Gallery 1 of 59

Click to skip More From The Web

The Queen of Thorns isn’t one to play by the rules; nor is she one to take kindly to another scheming matriarch jostling for a place on the proverbial food chain.

Truth be told, the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones put Olenna Tyrell (Dame Diana Rigg) through the wringer, as she tried desperately to rescue her tortured grandchildren from the clutches of the High Sparrow. It’s only later on in the season that Olenna pleads with Cersei and the Small Council to take a stand against the oppressive church but here, in this never-before-seen deleted scene from Game of Thrones season 6, we see Olenna plot against Lena Headey’s Queen Mother with Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths).

The Queen of Thorns Isn't Messing Around in Game Of Thrones Season 6 Deleted Scene
When Cersei Lannister sent Mace Tyrell to the Iron Bank of Braavos on Game of Thrones, it sadly meant we were robbed of some more moments from the bumbling, hapless head of House Tyrell. Actor Roger Ashton-Griffiths always brings some much-needed levity to the show with his idiotic antics, and this deleted scene from season 6 is no different. Here, we see Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg) take her son to task as she tries to scheme her way out of a bad situation. Man, how great is Diana Rigg? You've gotta love her attitude on this show.

If you haven't yet, be sure to read this morning's article about how the show is gearing up for its biggest battle yet in the upcoming season. Game of Thrones will return to HBO in 2017.

‘Game of Thrones 6×10: The Winds of Winter’ Review
“Promise me, Ned.”

Olenna Tyrell sits all in black in the water gardens of Dorne, surrounded by beautiful women bent on revenge. “Cersei stole the future from me,” she tells Ellaria. Her enemy’s crime is so vast, so terrible that it cannot be described as the destruction of places or people. Instead it is the transformation, as if by magic, of love and hope, of the very will to live itself, into a tower of smoke and dust. It’s a magic trick The Winds of Winter plays more than once.

The episode opens on insular royalty and impoverished fanatics readying themselves for trial, their costumes all equally affected. A mournful piano burdens the sequence with a sense of dread and melancholy, building in the background as Cersei’s plot to destroy the city unfurls with horrid inevitability. The piece stitches bleak, quiet visuals into a clockwork sequence which...

Game Of Thrones season 6 episode 6 review: Blood Of My Blood
facebook

Things are finally moving ahead in Daenerys' story, as she demonstrates her leadership qualities in the latest Game Of Thrones...

This review contains spoilers.

6.6 Blood Of My Blood

At times throughout the six seasons of Game Of Thrones, it's felt that all the story lines are moving except for Daenerys Targaryen's tale of revenge. Sure, she's conquered cities and raised an army while being a single mother to three surly teenage dragons, but at the same time, she's not really done that much either. Daenerys has been a lot of spinning wheels and painful lessons. That's not to say that there haven't been great moments along the way, but they've been fewer and farther apart than I think most people would like. That's all changing this season; Daenerys Stormborn is in full effect, and she's getting ready to bring the pain to the Seven Kingdoms.

Of course,...

Game of Thrones Episode 6.6 Recap: Guess Who Is Back?
Game of Thrones (2011)
Episode 6 of Game of Thrones "Blood of My Blood", does not begin with Hodor miraculously alive. The gentle giant is dead, but did indeed hold the door long enough for Meera (Ellie Kendrick) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) to escape into the woods. Bran is still in the trance. He sees a montage of the events that led up to this point. The White Walkers are front and center, but we do get a glimpse of The Mad King and his stockpile of Wildfire in the vision. This has to be an important set up for the eventual showdown with The Night King. He wakes up as they are surrounded by the undead. Meera valiantly covers him; a masked rider swinging a mace of fire comes to their rescue. He pulls them unto his horse and they escape into the forest.

"Game of Thrones", Where We Stand & What's to Come from the Season 5 Finale
Is everyone still done with "Game of Thrones"c Are you done watchingc I can't really tell because I guess I don't really care as the last two episodes following that most controversial moment that had the Internet up in arms are two of the best episodes of this show I've seen in some time. Now I don't remember each and every episode the way many of you do. I don't remember the names of each episodes and I'll admit there are even characters I recognize more for what they represent rather than who they even are. However, in last week's appropriately titled episode "The Gift" and in last night's episode "Hardhome" we've seen developments involving key characters with awesome narrative weight to them. Cersei (Lena Headey) is chilling in a cell, sipping water from puddles. Sansa (Sophie Turner) is still under the thumb of Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) and yet...

Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all play the 'Game of Thrones.' An original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling...

Here's a breakdown of what's ahead in the final three episodes.

Episode 8, "Hardhome" (May 31)

Update: Here's our full recap of Episode 8. Best of Season 5 so far!

Official HBO synopsis: "Arya makes progress in her training. Sansa confronts an old friend. Cersei struggles. Jon travels."

Game Of Thrones season 5 episode 4 review: Sons Of The Harpy
All praise goes to the fight scene choreography in this week's Game Of Thrones, a show where fighting defines character...

This review contains spoilers.

5.4 Sons Of The Harpy

I am not sure who creates the fight scenes for Game Of Thrones, but they clearly need a raise. From what I've been able to track down on the show's very exhaustive cast list, the man responsible for the fights in this week's episode is Paul Shapcott, who did similar work on the various Peter Jackson Tolkien films and multiple seasons of Spartacus, two very popular, very clever properties that depended a great deal on swords to advance the plot. I know there are many more people involved in the stabbing and slashing aspects of Game Of Thrones: Pedro Pascal's wushu spear trainer Master Hu took a bite out of the Mountain, swordmaster Cc Smiff was the mastermind behind Brienne...

'Game of Thrones' Episode 5.04 Recap and Preview of Next Week
Tonight's new Game of Thrones episode, "The Sons of the Harpy", begins shortly after last week's "High Sparrow" left off, with Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) knocking out a fisherman to steal his boat, as he carries his new captive Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) aboard. We first saw Mormont for the first time all season in last week's episode, where he was drowning his sorrows at a pub, where he sees both Tyrion and Varys (Conleth Hill). What's interesting is, at the end of last week's episode, Mormont told Tyrion he was taking her to the Queen, which could either mean his former Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), or the new Queen of Westeros, Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer). We don't get any answers in this first scene, though Jorah and Tyrion's journey has certainly begun.

We then catch up with Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who is on a journey of his...

Recap & Review: "Game of Thrones" Season 5, Episode 4 - "The Sons of the Harpy"
Let's start this week's "Game of Thrones" review and recap at the end. The fourth episode of this fifth season is called "The Sons of the Harpy" for a reason and that last action scene delivers, and what makes it stand out in an episode full of them are the stakes. The Sons of the Harpy are stepping up their activities and starting to win the support of the Meereenese people. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is losing her grip on her reign and the increased Sons of the Harpy outbursts are a physical manifestation of this shift. The action also stands out because of its coherence. The editing on many of the other action scenes in this episode are cut together in the seizure inducing, hyper-cut style of most modern action movies. The irony of this one being the clearest action scene is that all but two of the combatants wear masks.

'Game of Thrones' Season 5, Episode 2 Trailer
Game of Thrones (2011)
Following last night's Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come", HBO has released a trailer for next week's all-new episode of Game of Thrones titled "The House of Black and White". The footage reveals that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who left Westeros and set sail for Braavos on the other side of the Narrow Sea, finally makes it to her destination. Arya has been searching for Jaquen H'gar, and it seems she may be finally reunited with him in this episode.

The trailer also teases that Cersei (Lena Headey) will burn cities to the ground if 'they' touch her daughter. The Lannisters have received an ominous message from, most likely, the Martell's, who appear to be threatening the life of Cersei's daughter Myrcella, who has been shipped off to marry a prince in Dorne. Their arrangement has some new complications, though it isn't confirmed that it is in fact the Martell's...

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Premiere Review
Game of Thrones (2011)

We'll be reviewing every Season 5 episode on Sunday nights from now until the season comes to an end, so be sure to check back for our thoughts on each week's episode. Be warned, if you haven't watched the Season 5 premiere, yet, there will be plenty of Spoilers below, so read on at your own risk.

The Season 4 finale ended with two pivotal characters characters leaving Westeros, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). Tyrion fled across the Narrow Sea after he killed both his lover Shae (Sibel Kekilli) and his father Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance). With the help of Lord Varys (Conleth Hill), Tyrion escaped to Pentos, and the Season 5 premiere finds the Imp discussing the future of the Realm with Varys, and what it's like to discard human...

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Episodes Leak Online
Game of Thrones (2011)
HBO's Game of Thrones returns tonight with the Season 5 premiere "The Wars to Come", airing at 9 Pm Et tonight. While many fans are waiting with bated breath for the premiere, HBO has confirmed that the first four episodes of Season 5 have leaked online. Here's what the network had to say in a statement.

"Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them. We're actively assessing how this breach occurred."

The episodes were uploaded to several different Torrent sites on the internet last night, just one day before the premiere, and shortly after post-production producer Greg Spence discussed the likelihood of the episodes leaking early. The season's first trailer also leaked online back in January, which was captured by a cell phone camera. The first four episodes were reportedly leaked through online screeners sent...

Watch What 'Game of Thrones' Looks Like as a Kids Cartoon
Game of Thrones (2011)
Game of Thrones is arguably one of the most popular shows on TV today, with legions of devoted fans eagerly awaiting the Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come" on Sunday, April 12 at 9 Pm Et on HBO. Anyone who has watched the show knows it certainly isn't for the faint of heart, and most definitely not for children. But why should the young ones be left out of all the fun? For those who have ever pictured the show as a Saturday morning cartoon, you're in luck, since author George R.R. Martin has debuted a new video with the TBS talk show Conan, entitled Lil Thrones.

The humorous two-minute video still features all of the bloody beheadings, poisonings and other gruesome deaths that fans are used to, but formatted as a cheery animated show, complete with a song-and-dance routine. Beloved characters such as Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), Cersei (Lena Headey), Robb Stark...

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Trailers Take Arya Across the Narrow Sea
Game of Thrones (2011)
The massive statue in Meereen comes crumbling down as both Tyrion and Arya start their new lives across the Narrow Sea in three new trailers for Season 5 of Game of Thrones, debuting Sunday, April 12 at 9 Pm Et with "The Wars to Come". As you may recall, the Game of Thrones Season 4 finale showed both Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Arya (Maisie Williams) leaving Westeros, but whether they will find solace across the Narrow Sea remains to be uncertain. While these trailers do not divulge too much information about this season's plot, we do get plenty of action.

In the new season, Jon Snow is struggling to balance the demands of the Night's Watch with those of the newly arrived Stannis Baratheon, who styles himself the rightful king of Westeros. Meanwhile, Cersei scrambles to hold on to power in King's Landing amidst the Tyrells and the rise of a religious group led by the enigmatic High Sparrow,...

Seth Meyers & Jon Snow Throw 'Game of Thrones' Dinner Party
With the Season 5 premiere of HBO's hit series Game of Thrones just a few days away, series star Kit Harington paid a visit to NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote the show. After the star's interview with Seth Meyers, fans were shown a pre-filmed sketch that shows what would happen if Jon Snow were to be invited to a New York dinner party. What follows is five minutes full of awkward conversations and, for those who haven't caught up with the show yet, plenty of spoilers.

The sketch features Seth Meyers trying to coach Jon on the art of "small talk," as his brutal stories from Westeros don't exactly translate well over a civil dinner table conversation. The sketch even teases one of the show's great mysteries, the identity of Jon Snow's mother, which has lead to countless fan theories sprouting up on the Internet. We also...

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Stunts Featurette
Game of Thrones (2011)
With just over two weeks left until Season 5 of Game of Thrones debuts with "The Wars to Come", HBO has released a new behind-the-scenes preview that focuses on the elaborate stunt sequences. Stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam explains the process of creating these massive fight scenes, while explaining that Kit Harington (Jon Snow) does all of his own stunts, and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) actually needs to be pulled back a bit because he is so intense. This featurette also gives us a new look at the Sand Snakes, Nym Sand (Jessica Henwick), Tyene Sand (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers) and Obara Sand (Keisha Castle-Hughes), with Rowley Irlam explaining that all three actresses had to be trained remotely, since they all live in different countries.

In Season 5, Jon Snow is struggling to balance the demands of the Night's Watch with those of the newly arrived Stannis Baratheon, who styles himself the rightful king of Westeros.

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Clip: Arya Arrives at House of Black & White
Black and White (2002)
Back in December, HBO released a series of brief and vague clips from Season 5 of Game of Thrones, one of which appeared to show the door of The House of Black and White in Braavos. Last night, series star Maisie Williams appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she unveiled a new clip that showed Arya finally making it to The House of Black and White. At the end of Season 4, Arya set sail for Braavos, across the Narrow Sea, and this clip shows that her plan may have been in vain all along. Here's what she had to say on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about this scene.

"The new season for Arya is totally different than what we've seen before. She's in a completely new location, and you see the doors were black and white, and anyone who's read the books knows that's a really exciting place for her to be.

Aside from all of the narrative questions fans have been asking in the lead-up to this season, many are also wondering if Season 5 will actually spoil certain moments from George R.R. Martin's last two books in his A Song of Fire and Ice series, which have yet to be published. 2 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Clips: Tyrion Confronts Varys
Game of Thrones (2011)
With just under one month left until the Season 5 premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones, the network has released two new clips, one of which reveals why the episode is entitled "The Wars to Come". The first scene features Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who escaped from Westeros at the end of Season 4, conversing with the man who helped him get out of King's Landing, Lord Varys (Conleth Hill). Since Varys is not related to the Lannisters in any way, Tyrion asks him why he arranged the escape. Varys reveals that he did what he did for the good of the realm, and that a man of Tyrion's talents will be needed in "the wars to come."

The second clip takes us north of the Wall, with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) talking to Mance Rayder (Ciar&#225n Hinds) about pride. This clip also references that Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) and his...

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Poster: Tyrion Vs. Daenerys' Dragon!
Game of Thrones (2011)
With the Season 5 premiere getting closer by the day, HBO has released a new poster for the highly-anticipated return of Game of Thrones, featuring Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister and Drogon, one of the three massive dragons raised by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). As you may recall, in the Season 4 finale, the fugitive Tyrion left Westeros and set sail for Essos, where Daenerys currently rules in the city of Meereen. You may also recall that, in the trailer released last month, Varys (Conleth Hill) told Tyrion to seek out the dragon queen Daenerys. Could this poster be a hint that Tyrion and Daenerys are forming an alliance?

It's also completely possible that this scenario never actually happens, especially since it isn't a part of George R.R. Martin's books. However, there has been plenty of talk that Season 5 will stray from the beloved novels, including deaths of some characters in...
