Trisha Yearwood Breaks Down Honoring Musical Idol
For decades, Trisha Yearwood has been an inspiration to many country fans. She not only has won Grammys, but she is also a cookbook author, actress, and more. There is literally nothing that she cannot do, and that is what many admire about her. Furthermore, she has dealt with rape accusations against her husband, the equally famous Garth Brooks. Things have been hard, but she has more than pushed through and shown what a strong woman she is. Now, she is honoring someone else who has influenced her deeply while in the middle of a sold-out show.

Sarah McLachlan was on a cruise off the coast of California recently when the political shifts that have taken place in the United States hit her squarely in the face. “It was so funny,” says McLachlan, a native Canadian. “You know instantly who the Republicans and the Democrats are. The Democrats sought me out and said, ‘We’re so sorry.’ And then I’d speak to some other people who are, ‘Yeah, we know this is a bit of a disruption, but things will settle down soon.’”

Dolly Parton was born January 19, 1946 as the fourth of 12 children in Tennessee. What her family lacked in money was more than made up in love and support, and a young Parton was inspired by her upbringing and surroundings, sparking her love of music. By the age of 13, she was learning guitar, writing music and performing; upon high school graduation, she moved to Nashville and embarked on one of the most successful careers in musical history. Well beyond her country and pop career, she was a 2022 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
She pleaded with Jolene to stay away from her man. She shared her stories of growing up simple and poor, but loved, in her Tennessee mountain home, where her mother made her a coat of many colors. She's a feminist who demands that standards shouldn't be different for her just because she's a woman - and...

The 2025 American Music Honors, presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey, gathered legends of rock, country, soul and Americana Saturday for an evening of memorable performances and heartfelt tributes. But by the time guest of honor Bruce Springsteen took the podium at the Pollak Theatre, even he’d had enough of himself.
“If I hear my name again, I’m going to fucking throw up,” Springsteen joked. “Let’s talk about fucking someone else.”
With that, the spotlight shifted to the evening’s honorees: Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello, John Fogerty and Joe Ely. Each was celebrated by a standout lineup of presenters and performers including Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Steve Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren. The night, hosted by Brian Williams, also featured a surprise performance from 2024’s honoree Jackson Browne. The latter joined Springsteen, Morello and...

Garth Hudson, the unsung genius behind The Band’s iconic sound, has played his final note at the age of 87. As the last surviving member of the legendary group, Hudson wasn’t your typical rock star. A classically-trained musician from Windsor, Canada, he grew up playing the church organ and accordion before teaching music theory in his early years. And you know what when Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm tried to recruit him for their band, he only agreed after they promised to let him teach them music theory. Talk about setting your terms.

Garth Hudson, the keyboardist, sax player and archivist for Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Band whose farewell show with the group was memorialized in Martin Scorsese’s landmark documentary The Last Waltz, died Tuesday in his sleep at a nursing home in Woodstock, NY. He was 87.
The executor of his estate executor confirmed the news to the Toronto Star.
Born Eric Hudson on August 2, 1937, in Windsor, Ontario, and was trained in classical piano and music theory. He played in local bands before hooking up in the late 1950s with rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins’ The Hawks, which eventually would feature many of his Band mates. The group would back Bob Dylan’s on the notorious mid-’60s “Going Electric” tours and, rechristened The Band, they collaborated on groundbreaking album The Basement Tapes, helping to invent the Americana genre.

In light of all the recent Dylan chatter, retired talk show host/occasional jury candidate David Letterman took to YouTube to share his thoughts about the legendary musician. Specifically, Letterman talked about the time that Dylan tanked a performance on his show, possibly on purpose.
In 1992, just a year before he hopped over to CBS, Letterman celebrated 10 years of NBC’s Late Night program with a lavish anniversary special held at Radio City Musical Hall. In addition to various clips and an appearance from Bill Murray, the event featured “special musical guest” Bob Dylan and an “all-star band.”
The “supergroup...

The 2024 edition of the Kennedy Center Honors celebrated an eclectic assortment of entertainers Sunday night: filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, singer Bonnie Raitt, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and surviving members of the Grateful Dead. The organization also bestowed its honor on an entertainment venue for the first time, New York’s iconic Apollo Theater.
As per tradition, the honorees observed the proceedings from the presidential box in the Kennedy Center Opera House, accompanied by President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and First Husband Doug Emhoff. Freshly arrived from a White House reception, all received rousing ovations from an appreciative audience when introduced.
That White House tradition could go on hiatus during the incoming Trump administration, since Donald Trump notably declined to participate in the affair during his first presidency. Nonetheless, invitations will be extended by the rigidly nonpartisan arts institution, the Kencen assures.
Slated to air on CBS Dec.

Joe Biden held his final Kennedy Center Honors last night, paying tribute to the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, and Francis Ford Coppola, among others. A reception took place at the White House on Sunday and saw Biden celebrating the Dead’s career.
“In the San Francisco Bay at an inflection point in history, the Grateful Dead have long since transcended 1960s counterculture,” Biden said in a speech. “Technical virtuosos fiercely dedicated to their craft, they fused decades and dozens of musical styles to create a whole new American sound. Experimental,...

“Not Fade Away” closed out the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony Sunday, just as honorees The Grateful Dead had used Buddy Holly’s ode to enduring love to close out hundreds of concerts over the years.
The packed house danced in the aisles to the bouncy beat after a night of honoring the Dead and other recipients of the lifetime achievement award for artistic accomplishment: director Francis Ford Coppola, jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt. The venerable Harlem theater The Apollo, which has launched generations of Black artists, also was recognized.
Longtime Deadheads, including actors Miles Teller and Chloe Sevigny and talk show host David Letterman, paid tribute to the band’s blend of musical experimentation, longevity and community building. “Their music fills the universe,” Letterman proclaimed.
The choice to honor The Apollo was an unusual one — the first time the Kennedy Center has chosen to honor a specific performance venue.
