Reigning American Idol winner Jamal Roberts just scored a monumental gig — joining pop and R&b icons Brandy and Monica on their joint headlining The Boy Is Mine tour.
The 27-year-old gospel and R&b singer from Meridian, Miss., won Season 23 of ABC's reality TV show on May 18 against country singer John Foster. In doing so, Roberts became the first Black man to win American Idol since Ruben Studdard 22 years prior. "I'm anointed. I know how to use it. I know how to tap in," Roberts told Gold Derby after his victory. Since then, his debut single, "Heal," soared to the top of the iTunes chart and he performed with Kirk Franklin at the 2025 BET Awards.
This is the first co-headlining tour for Brandy and Monica, aptly named after their Grammy-winning hit, "The Boy Is Mine," which became 1998's best-selling single and reigned atop Billboard's Hot 100 chart for an impressive 13 weeks.

Kevin Hart made sure to keep Kanye West locked outside the building while taking what seemed to be some subtle digs at Sean “Diddy” Combs during his 2025 BET Awards monologue.
The host largely kept his roasts light and fun as he opened the show, noting all the stars in the building and joking near the end of his set that he’d been receiving calls all day from folks hoping to snag a seat. Hart then pretended to get a text, and after looking at his phone, deadpanned, “Aw shit,...

On a night filled with laughter, heartfelt tributes, and electrifying performances, the 2025 BET Awards proved that honoring Black excellence transcends the trophies themselves.
Dubbed "Culture’s Biggest Night," the event offered a dazzling celebration of creativity and achievement. Rather than focusing on the presentation of awards, the nearly five-hour telecast prioritized entertainment, featuring a packed lineup of powerhouse performances, comedy, and emotional tributes. Highlighting the evening were special honors for the BET Ultimate Icon Award recipients: Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg. Their remarkable contributions to music, film, and culture took center stage in a show dedicated to legacy and artistry.
Host Kevin Hart kicked off the ceremony with a 10-minute monologue, poking fun at podcasts, stage names, and Kanye West. "He says he's out front and he's waiting for someone to invite him in," the comedian joked before warning the audience, "Don't do it! We all saw the movie Sinners.

Deion Sanders certainly like the attention. The former NFL star has signed up to feature in another documentary series – this time for Netflix.
Sanders will be the subject of Prime Time. It comes after Netflix rival Amazon aired three seasons of Coach Prime, which follows his Jackson State University Tigers team.
Netflix said that the series will “explore Sanders’ evolution from a two-sport phenom to a culture-defining coach and media personality” and open up about his relationship with his biological father, surviving an attempted suicide and near-death health scares.
It’s unclear whether it will include footage of the recent NFL draft, where his son Shedeur Sanders fell to the fifth round after many expected him to be a top pick.
The three-part series will also feature Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Ice Cube and Kirk Franklin.
It will be produced by Smac Entertainment, which produced Coach Prime, Skydance Sports and NFL Films.

Funk music has been around since the 1960s, developing out of gospel, R&b and soul, with a distinct emphasis on “syncopated bass lines and steady, infectious drum grooves,” according to one description. But that’s an awfully academic way of putting it.
The most important thing: Funk makes you want to dance.
We Want the Funk!, a new documentary premiering Tuesday night on PBS stations, will have you moving in your recliner, on your living room dance floor or wherever you watch it. Directors Stanley Nelson and Nicole London join the latest episode of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast to explore the music and its key innovators including James Brown, George Clinton and Sly Stone.
Doc Talk co-host John Ridley calls We Want the Funk! “perhaps the most joyous” cinematic work of the year. In addition to its broadcast premiere, the documentary is available on the PBS app and the PBS YouTube channel.
