Nicholas Pryor, Actor in ‘Risky Business’ and ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ Dies at 89

Nicholas Pryor, the busy character actor who portrayed Tom Cruise’s father in Risky Business and Kathleen Robertson’s dad on Beverly Hills, 90210 during a career that spanned seven decades, has died. He was 89.

Pryor died Monday of cancer at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina, his wife, actress Christine Belford, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In a note to be delivered to THR after his death, he wrote: “Nicholas Pryor was enormously grateful to have been, for nearly 70 years, a working actor.”

From 1997-2002, Pryor played the former spy Victor Collins on the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, culminating a long career in daytime soap operas that included stints on The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, All My Children and Another World.

‘Wasted Talent’ Acquired By Freestyle Digital Media; New Trailer For Lillo Brancato Docu Released

Exclusive: Freestyle Digital Media announced today that is has secured the distribution rights to the Steve Sanulis-directed documentary Wasted Talent. The film will debut on demand on November 13.

The film, which also debuted its first trailer (watch above), follows 41-year-old actor Lillo Brancato who made his debut in Robert De Niro’s 1993 directorial debut A Bronx Tale. He went on to star in Renaissance Man, Crimson Tide, and The Sopranos, but Brancato fell from grace after becoming an addict and getting arrested for the murder of NYPD Officer Daniel Enchautegui during a drug excursion gone horribly wrong. Despite being cleared of the murder charge, Brancato still spent more than eight years in prison on an attempted burglary conviction. During his time in prison the actor was finally able to get clean and sober so that now, out from behind bars, he can hopefully pick up where is acting career left off.

A young boy residing in the Brewster projects of Detroit follows his friend to a stash house unaware that the consequences of this moment will shape the rest of his life. He’s coerced into dealing as a means for survival—the only way to convince his friend’s bosses that he isn’t a snitch being to actually engage in the activities he would be snitching on. So he ignores another friend just trying to say hello, his fear towards talking to her while “working” too much to utter a single word. A car pulls up, he walks over, and chaos commences. Off he runs with two grown men in pursuit. Either he avoids a speeding car by falling (and getting caught) or he diverts trajectory and keeps going.

Party of Five: Let's Take a Virtual Roadtrip to the Salinger House
In the Fox series Party of Five, an irresponsible older brother (Matthew Fox) must take care of his siblings after their parents are killed by a drunk driver. The other siblings are played by Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, and Jacob Smith. Others in the cast include Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paula Devicq, Scott Grimes, Michael Goorjian, Jeremy London, Tom Mason, and Mitchell Anderson.

The Party of Five series was never a big success but was very important to the growth of the fledgling Fox network. It started out at #125 in the ratings and, over the course of four seasons, made it to #57. The ratings then started to tumble after and it was cancelled after six years on the air, in 2000.
