After its first season was a hit, Watson season 2 just received an exciting update. Just a few months after it was announced that Watson season 2 would be a January 2026 midseason premiere, CBS has reversed course. Per Deadline, CBS has now decided to move Watson season 2 to a fall 2025 slot.
The sophomore season's move was revealed alongside the news that the Tom Ellis-led FBI spinoff CIA is now being pushed back to midseason. With a crowded CBS fall lineup, it now takes the place initially meant for CIA, where it will air Mondays in the 10/9c slot directly after FBI. Watson season 2 will premiere with the other Monday night shows on October 13.

CBS Moves 'CIA' TV Show To Mid-Season Amid Showrunner Change, 'Watson' Will Air in Fall 2025 Instead
CBS has made changes to its 2025-26 television schedule.
The upcoming FBI spinoff series CIA is moving to the mid-season, likely with a 2026 release, instead of airing this fall.
The news comes amid a showrunner change for the series. FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins was originally set to lead the show, but he has departed the series and has been replaced by Warren Leight, who previously served as showrunner on Law & Order: Svu.
The delay for CIA, which will star Tom Ellis, has caused a big change for the show Watson.

Morris Chestnut's medical mystery series, Watson, set in the world of Sherlock Holmes, clearly has a lot of potential. The medical drama has been renewed for a second season, after a fairly successful first season. Season 1 of Watson ended with the villain Moriarty dead. The series was creative with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s canon, relying on Chestnut's Watson, close confidant of a yet-to-be-seen and believed-to-be-dead Sherlock Holmes. Randall Park plays the villain Moriarty, and with him out of the way now, could that be the last of the character we see?

Watsonseason 2 could still see the return of a major character, despite their death. Hailing from Elementary executive producer Craig Sweeny, with Morris Chestnut leading as the titular John Watson, the medical drama sees the traditional supporting character step into the spotlight after the apparent death of Sherlock Holmes.
Watson season 2 won't return until January 2026, but the CBS show did tie up a major thread in its first finale. The villainous Moriarty (Randall Park) is defeated by Watson, who makes the choice to kill his adversary. That doesn't mean that Moriarty is gone forever, though.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Sweeny explains why Moriarty's death doesn't have to be the end. Sweeny, who serves as showrunner, talks in the quote below about how Moriarty could return by haunting Watson and always wanting to keep Park as part of the show:

Watsoncreator and executive producer Craig Sweeny opens up about bringing back Randall Park as Moriarty in Season 2.
Speaking to TV Insider, Sweeny said "I definitely wouldn't rule it out" regarding a potential return of Park's Moriarty in the upcoming second season of Watson. "I mean, definitely the act will haunt Watson, and you’d be a fool to say, I would never allow Randall Park to act in our show. I mean, I would love to see him again," Sweeny added.
Sweeny went on to discuss Park's role in the series, how it was specifically built to tie back into the overarching story of Watson Season 1, and how being unable to save the villain from a lethal dose of poison in the season finale has impacted Morris Chestnut's titular doctor. Watson may have ended its first season with the villain Moriarty dead, but that doesn’t mean we can’t see Randall Park in Season 2. After all, there are different ways to bring back a dead character on TV, including with the use of flashbacks and hallucinations. In fact, TV Insider specifically asked executive producer Craig Sweeny after the Season 1 finale if we could see Moriarty haunting Watson (Morris Chestnut) going forward. After all, Watson’s actions led to Moriarty’s death. Can’t you just imagine him popping up to provide some sort of commentary or vocalize Watson’s inner struggles? “I definitely wouldn’t rule it out,” Sweeny said. “I mean, definitely the act will haunt Watson, and you’d be a fool to say, I would never allow Randall Park to act in our show. Max subscribers cannot get enough of Sherlock & Daughter. As it awaits news of a Season 2 renewal from The CW, the period drama is once again climbing the streaming charts.
Per FlixPatrol, Sherlock & Daughter is currently sitting at No. 6 on Max's Top 10 Overall list, which has been pulled from Amazon Channels. Watson is far from the first TV show to explore the iconic characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with a modern twist. In fact, it’s not even the first one on CBS. Before the current drama, returning in 2026 for its second season, starring Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, Elementary starred Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson, respectively. Morris Chestnut is all for Lucy Liu appearing on Watson. “I’m trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her,” he told Deadline. Watson star Morris Chestnut has addressed the possibility of Sherlock Holmes appearing in the CBS medical drama. The modern Sherlock Holmes-inspired adaptation is unusual in the sense that the Great Detective does not actually appear in the show. In fact, the storyline picks up after Holmes' apparent death, and sees Dr. John Watson move to Pittsburgh and open a practice to treat patients with strange or unidentifiable issues. Holmes has yet to make an appearance in the show in person, but this could be set to change.
Per Deadline, Chestnut discussed the possibility of Matt Berry - who voices Sherlock in the show - appearing on the screen in Watson at some point. Sherlock Holmes and all things concerning the iconic detective seem to be the flavor of the moment. The prospective Young Sherlock series, led by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Morris Chestnut's Watson highlight the surging interest in the character once more. The CW released a hotly-anticipated new mystery series, Sherlock & Daughter, on April 16 as part of this new wave of adaptations of the character developed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The show takes on a unique approach to Sherlock Holmes, who is played by David Thewlis, as it saddles him with a young, clever woman, (who might well be his daughter), who is gifted with getting on his nerves. The first season was mapped out for eight episodes, with the season finale airing on June 11. So, will there be a second season of the drama mystery?
At the time of this writing, Sherlock & Daughter had not been greenlit for a second season.

Morris Chestnut said Watson follows Sherlock Holmes canon, hinting at a major character reveal in Season 2. The show is set in the aftermath of Holmes’ death, but those who’ve read the stories know that Holmes survived that fall.
CBS reimagined the Sherlock Holmes lore by expanding Dr. John Watson’s storyline. Watson is a unique spin on medical procedurals, featuring familiar, modern-day versions of characters, with Morris Chestnut in the titular role. Sherlock Holmes doesn’t appear in the show because it takes place a year after his apparent death; Watson has resumed his medical practice and moved on. Speaking to Deadline, Chestnut teased that Holmes could appear in the flesh in the (now-confirmed) second season.
“I will say Holmes, you know, in the mythology, does come back… and we are part of the mythology,” he explained, referring to The Return of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Morris Chestnut read some of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes stories before starring in “Watson,” created by Craig Sweeny. But there’s power in reclaiming iconic characters, he states.
Previously, Sweeny was an executive producer and writer on “Elementary,” which starred Lucy Liu as Watson.
“It can be political. We are in times where things that normally wouldn’t be political have turned political. You can’t ignore that. It was ambitious to do everything we’ve done on this show, and I’m glad we never steered away from anything. We jumped right in,” he says.

Why are medical dramas having a resurgence this Emmys season? The showrunners of some of the hottest series, which this year include Brilliant Minds, Doc, Doctor Odyssey, The Pitt, Pulse and Watson, have some theories (apart from the fact that they’re just “quite good,” says The Pitt’s R. “Medical shows introduce a problem and provide a solution, and in doing so offer hope,” Gemmill tells THR. “I think people need hope now more than they have in a while.” And Watson’s showrunner Craig Sweeny agrees: “Audiences are craving the hope and positivity that are baked into the genre.”

Watson star Morris Chestnut recently shared his hopes for Elementary's Lucy Liu to make an appearance on his Sherlock Holmes show. While the shows are currently unrelated, their creative teams do have some overlap.
Per Deadline, Chestnut talked about wanting to 'track down' Liu to get her to appear on his show. Watson was created by Craig Sweeney, who also executive produced Elementary, where Liu starred as Dr. Joan Watson. "I'm trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her," Chestnut said. He added that there are no talks with Liu, but he is "serious" about trying to have her appear in CBS's latest adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Chestnut is also an executive producer for the series.
Watson premiered on CBS in January, putting a medical drama twist on the usual Sherlock Holmes-style mysteries.

The festival, which Puons says exists to “celebrate excellence in global television,” is a triple threat: first, it’s a public festival and encourages a high level of engagement with the fans; second, it is a gathering point for European press, where TV companies can promote their shows; and third, it provides an opportunity for members of the industry to meet each other and attend topical panels as part of the Business Content program.
The festival has a trump card up its sleeve: its patron is Prince Albert II of Monaco, who attends both the opening and closing ceremonies. Among the festival guests he will welcome at the Grimaldi Forum this year are Robin Wright, Judith Light, Rachel Griffiths,...

Voting for the 2025 Emmys officially opened today, and Gold Derby has spotted several intriguing strategies, omissions, and oddities in the ballots, which are available to view on the Television Academy website.
When it comes to the writing and directing categories, a popular strategy is to submit as few options as possible, so as not to split the vote. (Remember how Succession would only submit a single episode in writing each year? It won that race four seasons in a row.) That's why we're so surprised to see ABC's boat-themed medical drama Doctor Odyssey flooding the ballot 11 different times for Best Drama Directing. If the show can't pinpoint one or two stand-out directors out of Jen Lynch, Our Lady J, Tessa Blake, Paris Barclay, Crystle Roberson Dorsey, Brad Buecker, Millicent Shelton, Michael Medico, Steven Canals, Maggie Kiley, and John J. Gray, how are the voters supposed to?

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach defends a surprising scheduling decision related to Watson. Hailing from Elementary executive producer Craig Sweeny, with Morris Chestnut leading the last as the titular John Watson, the medical drama sees the traditional supporting character step into the lead role after the loss of Sherlock Holmes. The premise caught on with audiences, and Watson season 2 faced a fairly confident path to renewal. Viewers will have to wait a little longer to see how it all unfolds, however, since new episodes won't be back until next January.
In comments to Deadline, Reisenbach addressed Watson'sdelay and defended the decision. CBS Entertainment's president noted that there was no room on the network's schedule for the medical drama, though she added that there will be a push for new viewers to stream the series on Paramount+. Reisenbach's quote is below:
“We’ll definitely be pushing viewers to binge it on Paramount+ in the meantime.

Following the recent finale of its inaugural season, Watson is taking some extra time off to prepare for his next case. CBS surprisingly left the new Morris Chestnut-led medical drama with a Sherlock Holmes twist off its fall schedule and will instead bring the series back in 2026. When it returns in January, it will also begin airing an hour later in the 10 p.m. slot. The delay means fans will have to wait just a bit longer to find out what comes next after Moriarty (Randall Park) met his end, and the network's Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach is opening up about why the hot new title is being left in the waiting room for the upcoming season.
Reisenbach spoke with Deadline after CBS unveiled its fall schedule to explain some of the final decisions made regarding the roster. Watson was a curious absence after the overall success of its first run.

While Watson’s season 1 finale might have seen Stephens and Sasha share an emotional moment, star Peter Mark Kendall is not yet sure what path is best for the couple’s future. Watson's entire cast of characters is engaging, but the Sherlock Holmes re-imagining threw the entire team into disarray with its dramatic finale. Watson season 2 will soon pick up where the first outing left off, but it is not just Morris Chestnut's Dr. John H. Watson who viewers will be eager to see more of.
Mark Kendall’s interview with Screenrant saw the actor make no promises about the pair's future. After Watson’s season 1 finale, the relationship between Stephens and Sasha is a stranger place than ever before. Showrunner Craig Sweeny has already revealed that season 2 will take the finale's confession and expand on it, changing the dynamic between the duo. Per Kendall:
“I thought it was really cool.

The year dawned with a brand new medical procedural, Watson, on CBS, which chronicled events following characters from an already famous story. The CBS and Morris Chestnut-led project was a fun, contemporary spin on the legendary detective stories of Sherlock Holmes, even as Chestnut's Watson came to terms with the passing of the famous detective and best friend. Based on stories first brought to life by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his books about Holmes, Watson Season 1 relied on one of Holmes' greatest adversaries, James Moriarty (Randall Park), to be the antagonist this season. After 13 episodes, the show would kill off Park’s Moriarty in the season finale, paving the way for a new challenge for Watson in the second season.

While Watson season 2 might still be a few months away, the show’s star confirmed in a recent interview that filming will be underway relatively soon. It might seem like it is a little early to start thinking about Watson season 2. The Sherlock Holmes re-imagining stars Morris Chestnut as Sherlock’s famous sidekick, John H Watson, who returns to work as a doctor after the apparent death of his friend and colleague Sherlock Holmes before the series began. Although Watson might try to leave the world of mysteries behind, Sherlock’s enemies aren’t quite done with him yet.

Watson showrunner Craig Sweeny reveals there were almost plans for a different character to die in the season 1 finale. Based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, the cast of Watson is led by Morris Chestnut's titular character, who treats patients in Pittsburgh with his unorthodox methods. In a shocking move, the Watson season 1 finale killed off legendary nemesis and principal antagonist James Moriarty (Randall Park). He was ostensibly killed by Watson, via a custom genetic illness, adding to the shock factor of the scene. However, another character could actually have died instead, and was considered in an earlier draft of the episode.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Sweeny revealed that there was a plan to have one of the twins, Adam or Stephens, not make it through their procedure. The finale sees both twins dying from an illness Moriarty created specifically for them and their genes, with the team only...

In the Watson Season 1 finale, John (Morris Chestnut) may have closed up his Sherlock Holmes box — with Moriarty’s (Randall Park) Always and Everywhere shirt inside — but the series has yet to show us proof that his friend, the sleuth, is really dead. After all, he fell just like Moriarty did at Reichenbach Falls in the series premiere, and the villain was alive until the finale. And so when TV Insider spoke with Chestnut and executive producer Craig Sweeny about the Season 1 finale, we had to ask about Sherlock Holmes. “I can say that I couldn’t imagine doing a show set in this universe and never seeing Sherlock Holmes, but I wouldn’t answer it in any more specific way than that,” was all Sweeny would say. “What’s the fun in that? Don’t you want to watch and see what happens?” Morris Chestnut shared his take that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Watson Season 1 finale “Your Life’s Work, Part 2.”] Dr. John Watson … killer?! The Watson Season 1 finale, which aired on Sunday, May 11, saw the titular doctor (Morris Chestnut) face off against the villain James Moriarty (Randall Park) in order to save one of his fellows. Moriarty used DNA against the team, targeting Adam (Peter Mark Kendall) but also infecting his twin, Stephens, and then thanks to what he had Ingrid (Eve Harlow) do — he blackmailed her with her father’s remains, after discovering she’d killed the abusive man as a teen — there was only one dose of a cure. But thanks to Ingrid then going to Watson, the doctor was able to make his own virus to use against Moriarty — and the cure, which he gave him after he helped them save Stephens, didn’t work as well as he’d hoped, he said, before sitting with the villain as...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Watson Season 1 finale “Your Life’s Work, Part 2.”] Watson began the series seemingly killing off both the amateur sleuth Sherlock Holmes and the villain James Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls, with the titular doctor (Morris Chestnut) unable to save the former, his friend. The two-part finale finally brought Watson and Moriarty face-to-face — and ended deadly for one of them. Due to Moriarty’s interference, the doctors only had one dose of cure to save one of the twins, Adam and Stephens (Peter Mark Kendall), after the villain’s virus felled both. But Watson then manipulated Moriarty to force him to hand over what was needed to save the other (Stephens), after Ingrid (Eve Harlow) approached him about the villain going to her. (He blackmailed her after discovering she’d killed her abusive father as a teen.) Both twins survived, and Stephens and Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) even got together. But Watson’s...

Sister Wives Season 19 hits an emotional part of the Brown family’s story.
The back half of the TLC hit’s season deals with Garrison’s death by suicide, and offers a look at how each of the wives and Kody Brown are coping with their grief.
However, viewers are more concerned with the women and their actions than anything Kody says or does.

There aren’t many Kody fans left, as most watch for Meri, Janelle, and Christine as they move on with their lives without him. Robyn is the only one left, making Kody a monogamist instead of the polygamist he was when Sister Wives began.
Kody has said and done some pretty terrible things, and they don’t go unnoticed. His treatment of Meri since Robyn came along has been frequently discussed.

Nevertheless, the streamer has confirmed that filming is ongoing in Atlanta, which TV Insider reported, while also dropping a terrific casting update in the shape of Morris Chestnut. Chestnut has been most recently seen leading the CBS medical-mystery series Watson, which premiered earlier in January and has already been renewed for another run.
When Reasonable Doubt returns, Chestnut will reprise his role as Corey Cash in a recurring capacity. Corey is a talented defense attorney that Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) brought in to assist on a case in the show’s second season, though as a main character. Chestnut’s anticipated return coincides with the addition of several new cast members to the upcoming season, namely, Kyle Bary as Ozzie,...
