Jason Vendryes has joined the cast of “Beyond the Gates,” playing a mysterious stranger with a connection to two of the show’s prominent political figures.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Vendryes will make his debut in Fairmont Crest starting in May when his character, Kenny, starts snooping around the lives of retired Senator Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and his Congressman grandson, Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon).

Since 2024, Vendryes has appeared as Agent Slomkowski in the BET+ original drama series “Tyler Perry’s Ruthless,” a spinoff of “The Oval,” which follows a young woman who becomes entangled in a scandalous cult of powerful sex-crazed fanatics, who she must now play along with until she can find a way to free herself and her young daughter. “Days of our Lives” alum Matt Cedeño (ex-Brandon Walker) plays one of the show’s lead characters.

5 thrilling shows like The Walking Dead
Image
In 2010, AMC Networks premiered The Walking Dead, an apocalyptic series that aired for 12 years across 11 seasons. Based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, the series became wildly popular, beyond what anyone could have imagined, and has inspired other series within the genre.

The Walking Dead has been praised for its earliest and final seasons, with mixed reviews for its seventh and eighth seasons. While it is set in an undead apocalypse, the stories revolve around the survivors and their experiences after the outbreak occurred. Many viewers note this is why the series became so popular.

Long-standing cast members for the series include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Several of these characters' stories have continued in the long line of spinoffs of the main series. Let's check out some...

It’s September 2024, and Beyond the Gates is becoming increasingly real. The title transitioned from The Gates to Beyond the Gates. Three members of the cast were announced, two of whom Soap Hub placed on its Dream Casting Wish List for the first new soap created in 25 years. And Karla Mosley — who will play Dani Dupree on the one-hour CBS soap — posted from Atlanta and is excited about being a part of this journey.

Excitement is Building

CBS originally announced its plans to create the first soap opera in 25 years back in April. And there’s more news to come as the highly anticipated production builds up steam to its premiere in early 2025.

The Dream Casting List: The Actors

If you recall, we already dream-cast a list of the female actors we’d love to see when populating the residents of Btg. Many great male actors are out there whose impact would instantly be felt.

Z Nation returns? The Asylum promises a big announcement is coming
Image
The horror TV series Z Nation was produced by The Asylum (a company best known for the Sharknado franchise and mockbusters) and aired on Syfy for five seasons, running for a total of 68 episodes from September 12, 2014 to December 28, 2018. After that show wrapped up, a prequel series called Black Summer ran for two seasons (released in 2019 and 2021) on the Netflix streaming service. If you’ve been wondering when Black Summer is going to return for a third season… well, it looks like it’s not going to, because the folks at What’s on Netflix have confirmed that Netflix quietly “ghost cancelled” the show. But a new post on The Asylum’s X account indicates that Z Nation might be getting a revival! The post promises that a big announcement is coming soon…

Sorry folks. We took a brief break. But now that we're back… #ZNation pic.twitter.com/MaRC7fWISG

Best Christmas Ever Movie Review: A Festive Misstep In Netflix’s Holiday Lineup!
Image
Best. Christmas. Ever! Movie Review Rating:

Star Cast: Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Jason Biggs, Matt Cedeño, Wyatt Hunt

Director: Mary Lambert

Writers: Todd Calgi Gallicano, Charles Shyer

Best. Christmas. Ever! Movie Review Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)

What’s Good: Clocking in at 80 minutes, the film resembles a festive TV special, embracing familiar Christmas themes. The primary setting, Jackie’s suburban McMansion, exudes comfort, adorned with holiday decorations. Brandy’s musical performance adds a lively touch, and the absurd final act nearly ventures into “so-bad-it’s-good” territory.

What’s Bad: Despite a more interesting pedigree with Charles Shyer co-writing, the film descends into mediocrity, lacking wit and cohesiveness. Unremarkable performances by Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeño, coupled with a lackluster script, contribute to the film’s mundane nature. The set decorations fail to camouflage its shortcomings, and under Mary Lambert’s direction, the potential for dark comedy transforms into a saccharine family movie.

In its first week on Netflix, Best. Christmas. Ever! was watched for 22.3 million hours and had a total of 16.3 million views, ranking second in the Global Top 10. However, the movie has been criticized for its poor quality, with a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes and negative reviews highlighting its failure to meet the standards of even mediocre holiday movies.

‘Best. Christmas. Ever!’ Review (Netflix)
Image
Stars: Brandy Norwood, Heather Graham, Jason Biggs, Matt Cedeño, Wyatt Hunt, Abby Villasmil, Madison Skye Validum, Nadia Sine | Written by Todd Calgi Gallicano, Charles Shyer | Directed by Mary Lambert

I will start this review by declaring that that title annoys me much more than it should. Why the full stops and the exclamation mark? It just feels very unnecessary. Now that is out of the way, let’s talk about the movie.

When Jackie sends out her annual ragging Christmas newsletter (I don’t think that’s a thing here in the UK – not to my knowledge – but they always seem to be a thing in American movies), it includes an invite for any of the readers (and friends) to join her at Christmas. Her high school best friend then accidentally ends up at her house after a long drive and they are forced to spend Christmas together.

Best. Christmas. Ever! Ending Explained
Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Best. Christmas. Ever!

The ending of Best. Christmas. Ever! confirms Santa Claus's existence as the Sanders and Jennings families come together for the holidays and ultimately confide in one another, showcasing the power of holiday spirit. Jackie's Christmas newsletter was mostly true, except for the fact that her son Daniel had passed away. Monkey Bob, Grant's stuffed monkey toy, seemingly exhibits sentient behavior, with Santa's magical existence lending credence to the notion that he is sentient.

The ending of Best. Christmas. Ever! proves Santa Claus is real, Monkey Bob is probably real, and anything is possible with a little holiday spirit. Best. Christmas. Ever! is a 2023 Netflix original Christmas movie starring Jason Biggs, Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, and Matt Cedeño. With classic Christmas songs sung by Brandy Norwood and a healthy dose of familial rivalries, Best. Christmas. Ever! hits the typical Netflix holiday...

Image

The film has a satisfying conclusion where Graham's character learns to embrace the good things in her life and let go of negativity.

The time for holiday movies is upon us and Netflix is looking to spread some holiday with their recently released Best. Christmas. Ever! The holiday comedy follows longtime frenemies, portrayed by Heather Graham and Brandy Norwood, who are reunited during the holidays in a twist of fate. Their characters are polar opposites; Norwood's Jackie is festive and optimistic, while Graham's Charlotte is a self-critical skeptic who is not Christmastime's biggest fan. As it turns out, both Graham and Norwood felt connected to their Best. Christmas. Ever! characters, something they discussed during an interview with MovieWeb.

‘Best. Christmas. Ever!’ Review: Heather Graham and Brandy Norwood’s Netflix-mas Movie Is Bubbly, Bright and Bonkers
Image
Director Mary Lambert delivers yuletide warmth and heartfelt cheer to Netflix subscribers with “Best. Christmas. Ever!” The story centered on two women rediscovering their strength and sparkle by mending their fractured friendship finds the correct balance of cynical and saccharine without upsetting the scale. The streamer’s practically patented brand of holiday hijinks is amped up to a ridiculous degree as the hyperbolic title would suggest. Even so, its absurdist lunacy acts as a Trojan Horse containing genuinely meaningful sentiments on forgiveness, happiness and bittersweet sorrows — universalities people tend to reflect on as their year comes to a close.

Charlotte Sanders (Heather Graham) dreads Christmastime because it means her former college bestie Jackie Jennings’ (Brandy Norwood) annual newsletter is on its way. It’s filled with obnoxious lingo and humblebrags about the Jennings family’s successes, and Charlotte can’t help but feel inferior, unfavorably comparing it to her own harried life as a wife,...
