Yellowstone star Dawn Olivieri's upcoming show Homestead: The Series has been renewed for a second season ahead of the first even being completed. The show is a spinoff of the 2024 post-apocalyptic movie Homestead.

Producers Angel Studios ran into trouble filming the continuation of its 2024 hit movie earlier this year, when snow in Utah shut down on-location filming. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Angel Studios has now found funding to complete Season 1 and preemptively renew the movie spinoff. Filming on Season 1 will resume this summer and lead directly into the second round of episodes.

Angel Studios has renewed Homestead: The Series for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, which also means season one is actually going to be finished.

Homestead: The Series, a continuation of Angel’s Homestead film, stars Bailey Chase (Longmire), Charles Esten (Nashville), Dawn Olivieri (Yellowstone), Jill Wagner (Lioness) and Jesse Hutch (Freddy vs. Jason).

“Homestead has captivated audiences worldwide with its bold and uplifting vision of the post-apocalyptic genre,” Jordan Harmon, the president of Angel, told THR. “The stellar cast, fueled by the unwavering support of our Angel Guild, has not only has allowed us to greenlight the completion of season one but also secured an early greenlight for season two, ensuring fans can dive back into the story sooner than ever.”

At first glance, Homestead – from director Ben Smallbone – might seem like another run-of-the-mill doomsday prepper tale designed to validate hoarding canned goods and ammo. However, there’s more depth lurking beneath the surface.

When a nuclear bomb obliterates Los Angeles, former Green Beret Jeff Eriksson (Bailey Chase) takes his family to the Homestead—a secluded survival haven owned by his wealthy friend Ian Ross. With its self-sustaining gardens, stocked armoury, and endless food supplies, the compound is a prepper’s paradise. But Homestead isn’t simply about the comforts of bunkered survival; it digs into the darker side of fear-driven living and the steep ethical price of protecting oneself at all costs.

The story unfolds as a taut moral drama, centering on the conflict between Ian and his wife Jenna (Dawn Olivieri). Ian is adamant about keeping the gates closed to the desperate, starving masses gathering outside, fearing that helping them would jeopardise their resources.

The iconic opening sequence from Buffy the Vampire Slayer gets recreated in pitch perfect claymation.

The recreated opening was made by artist Joseph Brett, who originally posted the sequence on Instagram on Halloween 2024. The sequence was accompanied with the caption, "This is the best thing I've ever made," and was received with widespread acclaim from commenters. Neal McDonough’s Homestead made headlines during its opening weekend in theaters by opening with $6 million inside the top five, pushing out Gladiator 2 and Kraven the Hunter. The film did drop 48% during its second weekend in theaters and earned just over $3 million, but when coupled with its earnings over Christmas week, Homestead has comfortably moved past $10 million and now sits at $13.3 million domestically at the time of writing. The film also stars Dawn Olivieri and Bailey Chase and follows an ex-Green Beret who joins a prepper compound while love, truth, and community all struggle against each other. Homestead earned scores of 38% from critics but 73% from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Bailey Chase and Jesse Hutch are two former Green Berets putting their skills to use to protect their loved ones in an apocalypse in Homestead. Ben Smallbone is bringing a new and modern approach to the post-apocalyptic genre, and Dawn Olivieri is at the heart of it in Homestead. Smallbone is a filmmaker known for his work in the faith-based genre, having helmed numerous music videos for the group For King & Country, while also co-writing, directing and editing the thriller Priceless and the documentary Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon. Olivieri first found success as a recurring player in Heroes and the Don Cheadle-led House of Lies before becoming part of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe, playing Claire Dutton in 1883 and Sarah Atwood in season 5 of the mainline show.

Homestead is struggling early in its box office run. Set in a post-apocalyptic America, the movie follows Neal McDonough's Ian Ross, as he works to secure his family's safety after a devastating nuclear attack. McDonough previously starred in Yellowstone as Malcolm Beck, in Tulsa King as Cal Thresher, and in Minority Report as Officer Fletcher. This latest movie was inspired by the book Black Autumn by Jeff Kirkham and Jason Ross. It was released on December 20 and debuted to a weak box office outing.

According to a report by Deadline, in its second weekend, the thriller is continuing to struggle. It appeared in under 2,000 theaters domestically and took ninth place at the box office. After a 66% drop on Friday, it is expected to earn a three-day total of just $3 million, while ushering in $5.2 million over the five-day holiday weekend. That would mark a total of just $12.7 million for its full run so far.

Yellowstone's cast is going in a lot of different directions after working on the hit series. Some of them will stay in the universe by acting in the next installment of the Taylor Sheridan-created franchise. Though Yellowstone season 5 has ended, the series will be getting a sequel show starring Beth and Rip. Longmire creator Craig Johnson wants to revive the six-season Western as it prepares to leave Netflix. Developed for television by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin and based on Johnson's Walt Longmire Mysteries, the series debuted on A&e in June 2012 and moved to Netflix for its final three seasons. The story centered on stars Robert Taylor as the unassailable Walt Longmire, the charismatic sheriff of Wyoming's Absaroka County, with a cast that included Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Bailey Chase.

Johnson responded in a Facebook post to the news that Longmire is soon leaving Netflix, with its last day being December 31. Also starring are “Tulsa King” star and “Yellowstone” actor Neal McDonough along with Dawn Olivieri, Jesse Hutch and Olivia Sanabia.

Dark Winds is a crime thriller series created by Graham Roland. The AMC series is based on a Leaphorn & Chee novel series written by Tony Hillerman. Dark Winds is set in the 1970s Southwest and it follows the story of two Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) as they go up against their dark past and evil forces to maintain peace in their community. U.K.-based sales firm 101 Films Intl., part of Amcomri Entertainment, has secured worldwide distribution rights to apocalyptic thriller “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist,” the recently completed sequel to 2014’s “Left Behind,” which featured Nicolas Cage. The movie is available for the first time at the Cannes Film Market this week.

In “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist,” contemporary events are shown as setting the stage for the return of Christ and the coming Apocalypse. The film follows the original characters and storylines of the best-selling books, which were written in the mid-nineties and have sold more than 80 million copies in multiple languages, but have been updated.

On The Rookie Season 2 Episode 17, Officer Nolan got thrown into the deep end with an undercover assignment and managing his criminal informant.

Only one of those things turned out to be a success.

One of Nolan's greatest strengths, his empathy, can also be a weakness, or at least an added obstacle. That sense of empathy allowed him to encourage Bianca to get clean and get a job.

Unfortunately, it also made it easy for her to get too attached.

Junkies aren't generally emotionally stable to begin with, so Bianca forming an unhealthy attachment to Nolan shouldn't have been a surprise.

But this was Nolan's first C.I., so it was all unchartered territory for him.

CBS’ S.W.A.T. is teasing subtraction by addition, with the casting of TV vet Bailey Chase.

An alum of series such as Longmire and Saving Grace, Chase is set to recur during the back half of Season 3 as Owen, a well-connected former Army Ranger who is in the process of launching a high-end security firm, our sister site Deadline reports. In that pursuit, he will court Deacon (played by Jay Harrington) — who is seemingly forever-cash strapped (what now, the gutters need replacing??), and whose family has had more than their fill of S.W.A.T.-related drama — to join his firm.

Exclusive: Longmire and Saving Grace alum Bailey Chase is set for a recurring role on CBS’ hit drama series S.W.A.T. He also has signed with Buchwald for representation. Inspired by the classic television series and feature film, S.W.A.T. stars Shemar Moore as the locally born and raised sergeant tasked with running a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Apple’s series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s cult fantasy film Time Bandits has found its leader: Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) will co-write and direct the pilot for the in-development project, our sister site Deadline reports.

The 1981 movie told the story of an 11-year-old history buff who stumbles on six dwarfs who have stolen a map that charts all the holes in the space-time fabric. They use the map to hop from one historical era to the next to steal riches, meeting historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and Robin Hood along the way. Gilliam is on board as an executive producer for the potential series.

Longmire and Saving Grace alum Bailey Chase and David Andrews (Shooter) have joined the Season 4 cast of USA Network’s Queen of the South drama series in key roles.

Starring Alice Braga and based on the best-selling book La Reina Del Sur by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Queen of the South tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza (Braga), a woman who is forced to run from the Mexican cartel and seek refuge in America. She was wheelchair bound, but did not let that hold her back from her passion, and was able to retrain herself to ride horses again. It’s an incredible story that is akin to the story of Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm to a shark while surfing and was able to get back on her board and ride the waves again. I guess when you have that much talent and determination, and a love for what you do, nothing can stop you!

Sony Animation has signed “Hotel Transylvania” director Genndy Tartakovsky for a pair of projects — the R-rated comedy “Fixed” and the adventure movie “Black Knight.”

“Genndy is one of the most singular voices in animation today and we are overjoyed to have him develop his next original features at Sony Pictures Animation, where he began his theatrical career nearly a decade ago,” said Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation. “His imagination and talent have no boundaries, which will be made abundantly clear by the two wildly different movies he’ll be directing next.”

Tartakovsky directed all three “Hotel Transylvania” movies, which have combined to gross more than $1 billion worldwide. “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” has taken in more than $100 million domestically in its first 12 days.

Back in January, one of the things Patrick Bromley and I discussed on our episode of Horrigins was that there were a lot of amazing short films out there, but it can be hard for fans to keep up with all of the content that gets released over time.
