At a 78th Cannes, which on the party side wasn’t as noisy as previous ones with drone shows (2022’s Elvis) and Elton John performing on the beach (2019’s Rocketman), leave it to amfAR’s 31st fashionista blowout Cannes Gala at Hotel Du Cap at Eden Roc to steal the show. This year fundraiser for the AIDS research foundation racked up $17M+ in an auction of art pieces and experiences with performances by Ciara, Adam Lambert’s sublime Queen covers, and Duran Duran closing with “Notorious” and “View to a Kill”.

As Benson Boone kicked off Coachella 2025, he paid tribute to Queen with a little help from a founding member of the legendary group.
The Grammy nominee was joined by guitarist Brian May and a full choir on Friday night as he performed the band’s 1975 hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on the Main Stage for the first night of Weekend 1.
Beginning the performance at the piano, Boone wore a fur coat of which Freddie Mercury would approve before getting up to work the stage and peeling off the layer to reveal his signature sparkly blue onesie.
May, who co-founded the British rock group in 1970 with Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, ascended from the stage to accompany Boone on guitar. The appearance follows May’s minor stroke last fall, which left him temporarily unable to use his left arm.

Queen guitarist Brian May has expressed optimism at the possibility of the legendary band releasing new music.
In a new interview with Mojo, the guitarist revealed that he and drummer Roger Taylor have been independently working on material — the makings of potential Queen songs — in their respective studios.
“I think it could happen,” said May of Queen releasing new music. “Both Roger and I are constantly writing and coming up with ideas and doing things in our studios. I could have the beginnings of a Queen song right there in front of me now. It’s just whether the idea reaches maturity or not. It’s whether that seed can grow.”
May’s remarks second those made by Taylor in 2023, who seemed confident about new Queen.

So, the question becomes: who is singing in Bohemian Rhapsody,...

Queen’s founding guitarist Brian May revealed that he had a “minor stroke” last week that left him unable to use his left arm for a while. But the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is recovering and assured the faithful that the episode is not career-threatening.

And all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.”

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.

“Queen Rock Montreal” will make its global streaming premiere May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS.
When it arrived in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert was Imax’s biggest exclusive engagement. Now, it will debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also be offered with Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices, Imax’s senior VP and head of Imax post and image capture Bruce Markoe announced during a panel Sunday at the Nab Show in Las Vegas.
The original concerts, featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981, and were arranged specifically to be filmed for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The performance includes classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.” It was restored for Imax by Mercury Studios.

Days after Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love overperformed in its opening weekend at the box office, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman stole a bit of the spotlight Feb. 20 in unveiling not one but four intersecting feature films from Sam Mendes about The Beatles, each focusing on one member of the Fab Four: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

During a resurgence in concert films, Imax is releasing a dynamic, digitally remastered version of a classic Queen performance featuring Freddie Mercury, Brain May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, which will have a limited run Jan. 18-21 in select Imax locations.
Queen Rock Montreal, directed by Saul Swimmer for Mercury Studios, originates from filming two consecutive performances in Montreal during 1981. To create the imagery, the original 35mm negative was rescanned at 4K and restored for the release at OnSight, a London-based postproduction company, and Imax.
The songs were remixed from a 2007 5.1 version of the concert, and are now presented in Imax’s 12.0 sound format. The sound restoration was completed at London’s Halo, where the team worked with Kris Fredriksson and Justin Shirley-Smith from Queen Productions. We will, we will block you. It seems that concert footage of Queen is being flagged and removed from social media platforms. And while this might initially seem like the doing of Queen, guitarist Brian May is far from supporting it, even apologizing to fans who have tried to share their favorite live songs online.
Brian May — who, along with Roger Taylor, has been a member of Queen since 1970 — took to Instagram to address the concern, saying Universal has turned “Draconian” through their task. But he wants to break free from the assumption he and the band had any say in removing the videos. “The decision to take these videos down certainly hasn’t come from us, the band. hopefully we will get an answer soon. Meanwhile, be extra careful and l’m sorry you good folks of good intentions have been put in this position.”

Rami Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury was a cinematic feat, capturing Mercury's visual flair and complex persona with dedication to the role. Gwilym Lee's portrayal of Brian May showcased his deep understanding of the musician, bringing May's astrophysics background and articulate speech to the forefront. Ben Hardy effectively captured the essence of Roger Taylor, showcasing his versatility as an actor and immersing himself in the role by learning to play the drums.
A hugely successful musical biopic, the Bohemian Rhapsody cast has a remarkable resemblance to their real-life counterparts. Queen, the legendary British rock band, etched an unforgettable mark on the music landscape with their eclectic sound and flamboyant stage presence, particularly that of their charismatic frontman, Freddie Mercury. Formed in the early 1970s, the band's innovative approach to rock music, coupled with their hit anthems like "Bohemian Rhapsody," ensured their legacy endured well beyond the vinyl era.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Colosseum. That unbelievably epic three-minute Pepsi commercial you surely remember from the early 2000’s where Britney, Pink, and Beyoncé at their full-on fiercest joined forces to commandeer the ancient Roman amphitheater with a diva-liciously badass riff on Queen’s “We Will Rock You”… yeah, you don’t actually remember that.
The fond impressions were planted later, Blade Runner-style, by online fandom — because what should have been herstory’s greatest Super Bowl ad of all time never actually aired in America!

Feelgood documentary follows Justin Hawkins’ band as they give even the smallest venues a Wembley Arena level performance
This documentary gives us an entertaining “comeback” narrative arc for the Darkness, the British neo glam-rock band with outrageous campy stylings, sparkly catsuits and real songwriting talent. For a couple of years in the early 00s they were absolutely gigantic, and then crashed and burned, apparently due to lead singer Justin Hawkins’ abuse of drink and drugs. Those were the days when everyone didn’t automatically make solemnly supportive noises about recovery and looking after your mental health: there was more ironic dismissal of addiction burnout as a symptom of rock’n’roll selfishness and absurdity.
But recently, Justin reconciled with his brother, lead guitarist Dan, and the band got back together with bassist Frankie Poullain and a new drummer, Rufus Taylor (son of Queen’s Roger Taylor); they started slogging around...

As the remaining original members still with the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor have been fiercely protective of Queen’s legacy, especially when it comes to the memory of their original lead singer, Freddie Mercury. They were involved with the production of the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, officially as executive music producers, though they unofficially served as advisors throughout the entire project. Both May and Taylor were 100% on board with the casting of Rami Malek as Mercury, especially after they heard the way Malek was able to sing the band’s songs. Queen ruled Baltimore’s Cfg Bank Arena Wednesday night (October 4th) as they kicked off their North American “Rhapsody Tour.”
Original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor — plus vocalist Adam Lambert — spent two hours tearing through over two dozen Queen tunes, with a career-spanning setlist that featured both their biggest hits as well as fan-favorite deep cuts.
Notably, the band played “Is This the World We Created…?” live with Lambert for the first time, and dusted off “Stone Cold Crazy” after more than five years.
May, Taylor, and Lambert were backed by Queen’s longtime keyboard player Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough, and percussionist Tyler Warren, comprising an ensemble whose sound filled the entire arena. It was a night that served as a tribute to Freddie Mercury, keeping his songs and spirit alive without ever overshadowing his bright legacy.
