Ghost are set to perform a tribute to Queen at this year’s Polar Music Prize ceremony on May 27th at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, Sweden.

Brook Lapping is producing a new documentary series charting the story behind the Live Aid concerts, one of the largest global music events in history which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The documentary series, which will air on BBC and CNN, will look at the concerts’ impact on music, politics and global awareness over the twenty years between Live Aid in 1985 and Live 8 in 2005; featuring exclusive interviews with Bob Geldof, Bono and Sting, along with U.S. President George Bush, President Obasanjo of Nigeria and Birhan Woldu.

On board as producers are Brook Lapping, a Zinc Media label, in association with Ronachan Films, with BBC and CNN Originals co-producing. Helmed by Tom Pollard, the series will air on the BBC as a three-parter titled “Live Aid at 40,” and as a four-part show titled “Live Aid: When Rock ’n’ Roll Took On the World” on CNN.

Roy Thomas Baker, the English producer who worked with Queen and The Cars in the 1970s and 1980s, has died. He was 78.

No cause of death has been announced.

Baker began his career in the music industry in his teenage years and eventually worked alongside Elton John’s producer, Gus Dudgeon. Early on, he worked with Tony Visconti, one of David Bowie’s producers, Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones, The Who and many more artists.

In 1972, Baker met Queen, and they collaborated across five varying albums. While working with the rock band, he produced a number of their tracks, including their 1975 hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” from their fourth studio album A Night at the Opera.

The song was nominated for two Grammys and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004. Notably, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the most-streamed song from the 20th century.

Queen guitarist Brian May has expressed optimism at the possibility of the legendary band releasing new music.

In a new interview with Mojo, the guitarist revealed that he and drummer Roger Taylor have been independently working on material — the makings of potential Queen songs — in their respective studios.

“I think it could happen,” said May of Queen releasing new music. “Both Roger and I are constantly writing and coming up with ideas and doing things in our studios. I could have the beginnings of a Queen song right there in front of me now. It’s just whether the idea reaches maturity or not. It’s whether that seed can grow.”

Queen’s founding guitarist Brian May revealed that he had a “minor stroke” last week that left him unable to use his left arm for a while. But the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is recovering and assured the faithful that the episode is not career-threatening.

“The good news is that I can play guitar,” May said in a video shared on his website on Wednesday (watch it below). “It was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a minor stroke. And all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.”

The 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced tonight on American Idol by Ryan Seacrest and 2022 inductee Lionel Richie.

A Tribe Called Quest, Cher, Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band, Kool & the Gang, Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton, and Ozzy Osbourne were announced as the performers being inducted.

Jimmy Buffett is set to be recognized for his musical excellence. Other inductees include Dionne Warwick, Norman Whitfield, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, MC5, Suzanne de Passe, and Big Mama Thornton.

Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2024 included Cher, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest.

The 2023 inductees included Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliot, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and The Spinners.

Richie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 alongside Pat Benatar (and Neil Giraldo), Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart), Carly Simon and Dolly Parton.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, established in 1983, is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. A committee nominates an artist, and “rock experts” evaluate the nominees and vote on the candidates who are inducted.

“Queen Rock Montreal” will make its global streaming premiere May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS.

When it arrived in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert was Imax’s biggest exclusive engagement. Now, it will debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also be offered with Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices, Imax’s senior VP and head of Imax post and image capture Bruce Markoe announced during a panel Sunday at the Nab Show in Las Vegas.

The original concerts, featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981, and were arranged specifically to be filmed for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The performance includes classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.” It was restored for Imax by Mercury Studios.

Following its record-breaking success as the biggest IMAX exclusive event release ever, Queen Rock Montreal will make its global streaming premiere on May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with IMAX Enhanced sound powered by DTS.

It will debut alongside the availability of IMAX Enhanced sound for 18 fan-favorite Marvel films that will immerse subscribers in the action like never before. The announcement was made today by Disney+, IMAX Corporation, and DTS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xperi Inc.

Subscribers on IMAX Enhanced certified devices will be able to feel the full dynamic range of every heart-pounding moment of the digitally remastered concert film, which captures the world’s most iconic rock band at the very peak of their live powers.

And Collider is excited to premiere an exclusive new look at the film, featuring guitarist Brian May and Roger Taylor’s commentary on the project.

During a resurgence in concert films, Imax is releasing a dynamic, digitally remastered version of a classic Queen performance featuring Freddie Mercury, Brain May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, which will have a limited run Jan. 18-21 in select Imax locations.

Queen Rock Montreal, directed by Saul Swimmer for Mercury Studios, originates from filming two consecutive performances in Montreal during 1981. To create the imagery, the original 35mm negative was rescanned at 4K and restored for the release at OnSight, a London-based postproduction company, and Imax.

The songs were remixed from a 2007 5.1 version of the concert, and are now presented in Imax’s 12.0 sound format. The sound restoration was completed at London’s Halo, where the team worked with Kris Fredriksson and Justin Shirley-Smith from Queen Productions. And while this might initially seem like the doing of Queen, guitarist Brian May is far from supporting it, even apologizing to fans who have tried to share their favorite live songs online.

Brian May — who, along with Roger Taylor, has been a member of Queen since 1970 — took to Instagram to address the concern, saying Universal has turned “Draconian” through their task. But he wants to break free from the assumption he and the band had any say in removing the videos. “The decision to take these videos down certainly hasn’t come from us, the band. hopefully we will get an answer soon. Meanwhile, be extra careful and l’m sorry you good folks of good intentions have been put in this position.”

This documentary gives us an entertaining “comeback” narrative arc for the Darkness, the British neo glam-rock band with outrageous campy stylings, sparkly catsuits and real songwriting talent. For a couple of years in the early 00s they were absolutely gigantic, and then crashed and burned, apparently due to lead singer Justin Hawkins’ abuse of drink and drugs. Those were the days when everyone didn’t automatically make solemnly supportive noises about recovery and looking after your mental health: there was more ironic dismissal of addiction burnout as a symptom of rock’n’roll selfishness and absurdity.

As the remaining original members still with the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor have been fiercely protective of Queen’s legacy, especially when it comes to the memory of their original lead singer, Freddie Mercury. They were involved with the production of the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, officially as executive music producers, though they unofficially served as advisors throughout the entire project. Queen is back on tour with Adam Lambert providing lead vocals and the setlist is pretty incredible!

The band just kicked off the 2023 North American Rhapsody Tour and they’ll be playing 23 shows across the next month.

The two-and-a-half hour show includes 27 songs and the tour kicked off with a sold-out performance at the Cfg Bank Arena on Wednesday (October 4) in Baltimore, Maryland.

Queen‘s original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor, plus Adam Lambert, are supported on stage by their regular band members, long-serving Queen keyboard player Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren.

Queen ruled Baltimore’s Cfg Bank Arena Wednesday night (October 4th) as they kicked off their North American “Rhapsody Tour.”

Original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor — plus vocalist Adam Lambert — spent two hours tearing through over two dozen Queen tunes, with a career-spanning setlist that featured both their biggest hits as well as fan-favorite deep cuts.

Notably, the band played “Is This the World We Created…?” live with Lambert for the first time, and dusted off “Stone Cold Crazy” after more than five years.

May, Taylor, and Lambert were backed by Queen’s longtime keyboard player Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough, and percussionist Tyler Warren, comprising an ensemble whose sound filled the entire arena. It was a night that served as a tribute to Freddie Mercury, keeping his songs and spirit alive without ever overshadowing his bright legacy.
