“It’s a Very Unusual Situation”: ‘Almost Paradise’ Season 3 Gets Hopeful Update From Creator
Image
While it’s only been about a month since Amazon cancelled this Philippines’ beach crime show, there seems to still be hope for its rebirth. Almost Paradise, created by Dean Devlin and Gary Rosen, was scrapped back in April, half a decade following its premiere on WGN America; however, Devlin has amazing news for fans who have been rooting for its return. The co-creator confirmed to TV Insider that the series is currently being shopped to other broadcasters for a third season, meaning that in no time, fan-favorites Christian Kane, Samantha Richelle and Arthur Acuñawill grace our screens once again.

Almost Paradise had pretty good ratings despite being moved from WGN America to IMDb TV, which then became Amazon Freevee. And with the cancellation, Devlin finds it "unusual." He voiced so, while discussing the upcoming The Librarians: The Next Chapter, noting how popular Almost Paradise is, yet it has no new home.

Almost Paradise Cancelled After 2 Seasons
Image
Paradise can’t last forever, it seems: The tropical action drama Almost Paradise has been cancelled after two seasons, TVLine has confirmed.

“We’re looking for a new home,” executive producer Dean Devlin tells TV Insider. “I’ve never had a show that was this successful and yet couldn’t stay at the same place more than one season.” Almost Paradise debuted on WGN America back in 2020 and then moved to Amazon Freevee for Season 2, which aired in July 2023. A source tells TVLine that when Freevee was scrapped last year, Almost Paradise became a casualty.

Almost Paradise Season 2 Easily Fixes a Procedural Trope
Image
The following contains spoilers for Almost Paradise Season 2, Episode 1, "The Magellan Cross," now streaming on Amazon Freevee.

Almost Paradise does many things differently than the average TV show -- including sidestepping some of the biggest conventions. The series is best known as a showcase for Christian Kane's incredible action skills, but it's also much more character-driven than it's given credit for. And in its second season, it's jumped a story hurdle that other shows in its subgenre usually don't find a satisfying resolution to.

In following Kane's character Alex Walker, Almost Paradise fits into the same general space as fan-favorites like Chuck, Lucifer, Psych and White Collar: an outsider helps law enforcement solve crimes. The main character usually creates friction with the cops or agents because of their conflicting approaches, but they work together because of a mutual goal and eventually, the hero becomes part of the team.

Almost Paradise's Christian Kane Talks Season 2 Return
Image
This interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

When Almost Paradise premiered, it was a breath of fresh air in the action genre -- but that was years ago. The series survived a lengthy hiatus, during which it moved from WGN to Amazon Freevee and is finally back for its second season. Like its hero Alex Walker, the series has overcome every hurdle without missing a step. Season 2 has all of the excitement, banter, and beautiful scenery that make this an adventure unlike any other.

Christian Kane's character Alex is the heart and soul of the show. His fresh start in the Philippines has turned out to be not quite so peaceful, but at the same time, it's been exactly what Alex didn't know he was looking for. Cbr spoke to Christian about finally being able to show audiences what's next for Alex and what's so special about Almost Paradise...

Almost Paradise Season 2, Episode 1 Recap & Spoilers
Image
The following contains spoilers for Almost Paradise Season 2, Episode 1, "The Magellan Cross," now streaming on Amazon Freevee.

Since Almost Paradise has been away for literally years, it's no surprise that the series from Independence Day filmmaker Dean Devlin and Gary Rosen comes back with one of its biggest setpieces ever. A pair of bad guys break into the Sacred Heart Church, looking for the titular Magellan Cross. The terrified Father Gabriel informs them that the cross is not in the church, but when he tries to escape, he's stabbed in the gut. The panicked thugs set the place of worship on fire to make his death look like an accident. When a season starts with burning down a church, it's clear that the stakes have been raised.

Elsewhere, forcibly retired DEA agent Alex Walker is taking another physical, with his doctor saying he's made "real progress" in battling his hypertension since coming to the Philippines.

IMDb TV has announced that it has picked up a second season of “Almost Paradise,” the American-Filipino crime drama series starring Christian Kane.

Originally a WGN America show, “Almost Paradise” stars Kane as Alex Walker, a U.S. DEA agent who is betrayed by his partner and forced into an early retirement. The series is notable for being the first American scripted TV production to shoot entirely in the Philippines.

Almost Paradise First Look: Christian Kane Returns!
Christian Kane
Christian Kane has been a TV Fanatic favorite ever since his days on Leverage as Eliot Spencer.

As such, we followed him to The Librarians, but aside from guest appearances here and there, he has not been on our TV screens regularly.

That's about to change, and his new show looks to be one for the Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum Pi crowd.

It follows Alex Walker (Kane), a former U.S. DEA agent who was forced into early retirement.

"Once the DEA's most resourceful undercover operative, the combination of his partner's betrayal and a life-threatening battle with hypertension has sent him as far from the madness as he can go - a small tropical island in the Philippine Archipelago," reads the official logline.

"He now runs the gift shop in the island's luxury resort hotel, gets his disability payments at the Us Naval base, and generally manages his transition...

Facebook Implements One-Strike Policy Barring Users From Livestreaming If They Post Hateful Content
Facebook is implementing a stringent one-strike policy that will bar people from using the platform’s livestreaming tools after their first violation of its “most serious policies” -- specifically, the site's guidelines regarding Dangerous Individuals and Organizations.

In a blog post about the new rule, Facebook vice president Gary Rosen explained that Facebook bars people who are involved in terrorism, organized hate activity, mass or serial murder, and human trafficking from having Facebook accounts at all. And Facebook's guidelines allow the platform remove users’ content if it “expresses support or praise for groups, leaders, or individuals involved in these activities.” Users who post support or praise for hate groups aren’t necessarily banned from Facebook wholesale unless they have repeated violations.

But now, thanks to the new policy, they will be banned from livestreaming after just one violation.

Other policy violations Rosen references that will result in a livestreaming ban...

Judge Judy's Son Embroiled In Rape Case
Judy Sheindlin in Judge Judy (1996)
A suburban district attorney who is the son of TV's "Judge Judy" is being accused of interfering in a child rape case in which the suspect is his personal trainer and recently lived with him.

Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy has recused himself from the investigation of Alexandru Hossu, but the local sheriff claims Levy is still involved.

"He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," Sheriff Donald Smith said.

In a response Monday night, Levy accused the sheriff of making "unfounded allegations and misstatements."

"My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation," he said.

The question of Levy's involvement in the case has turned into a volley of accusations between the two men, who have clashed publicly before over traffic tickets; Levy also...

After reports began to swirl that 'The Jerry Springer Show' was offering Casey Anthony $1 million to make an appearance with her family, the show's execs are now saying that the supposed monetary offer is completely false.

"There is absolutely no truth to this story whatsoever," 'Jerry Springer' spokesman Gary Rosen said in a statement. "'The Jerry Spring Show' has not made any monetary offer to Casey Anthony and her family to appear on the program, nor will we."

The rumored appearance would have marked the Tot Mom's first public words following her first degree murder charge acquittal. Original reports detailed that the show presented the offer to Anthony's legal team on Friday morning, an offer that would then be taken to Anthony and her family -- who supposedly had to appear on the show with her in order for the deal to go through.

Alcon Entertainment Finds Late Bloomer
Alcon Entertainment is developing the comedy Late Bloomer, based on the true story of a man who undergoes puberty in three weeks, according to Variety. The 2001 book "Man Made: A Memoir" by Ken Baker, chronicles Baker's struggle with the effects of a benign tumor that rested against his pituitary gland, which delayed his puberty and normal development, causing him frustration and embarrassment. At age 27, a successful operation to remove the tumor restored him to hormonally normal masculinity, but resulted in his experiencing all the effects of puberty over an extremely condensed three-week period. Baker is a news editor at E! Entertainment and has also been an entertainment reporter at People and Us. Baker was profiled in a Dateline NBC segment following publication. Alcon acquired the rights in 2008 and optioned a screenplay written by Gary Rosen. Alcon has hired new screenwriter Joe Nussbaum who has written an entirely new draft. That...
