17 Years Ago Jennifer Aniston’s Flick Catfished Me With Comedy Vibes and Left Me Emotionally Wrecked
With Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson headlining the 2008 comedy drama, Marley & Me, I thought I was signing up for a breezy, feel-good comedy about a mischievous dog and the charming couple trying to wrangle him with a blend of lighthearted chaos, and maybe a few wholesome life lessons.
However, as the movie progressed, it blindsided me with an unexpected emotional gut punch, wrapped in the warm glow of romantic comedy vibes, and I’m still not over how deeply this movie catfished me and wrecked me in the process.
Marley & Me: A heartwarming comedy that quietly breaks your heart
Based on John Grogan’s memoir, Marley & Me begins as a lighthearted tale that seems like every dog lover’s dream. When John (Owen Wilson) surprises his wife, Jenny (Jennifer Aniston), with a rambunctious puppy after she expresses a desire for children, they temporarily put parenthood on hold to raise Marley,...

Frank & Louis, the upcoming drama from director Petra Volpe, secured multiple key European pre-sales as production kicks off.
Constantin Film picked up the film for Germany and Austria, Filmcoopi has acquired rights for Switzerland, and September Film will handle release in the Benelux region.
Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love, Barbie) and Rob Morgan (Mudbound, Don’t Look Up) star in the English-language debut from Swiss-Italian director Petra Volpe, whose recent feature Late Shift drew acclaim at this year’s Berlinale and became a local box office success in German-speaking Europe. TrustNordisk is handling international sales.
Set within the walls of a U.S. prison, Frank & Louis follows Frank (Ben-Adir), a man serving a life sentence who takes on a caretaking role for aging inmates suffering from memory loss. The BAFTA-nominated British actor has drawn attention from recent turns as Bob Marley in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s Bob Marley: One Love...

It would be fair to say that music biopics are very much in vogue right now. From Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown) to Bob Marley (One Love), Amy Winehouse (Back To Black) to Robbie Williams (Better Man), and very soon The Beatles too, Hollywood is — for lack of a better phrase — hung up on telling singers' stories. All of which is to say that the only surprising thing about today's news, coming from Deadline, that Netflix is partnering with Queen of Pop Madonna to make a four-part limited series chronicling the 'Beautiful Stranger' songsmith's life and career is that it hasn't happened sooner.
Back in 2020, we first reported that her Madgesty was planning to co-write and direct her own biopic, then envisioned as a feature team-up with Juno scribe Diablo Cody. But after learning in 2022 that three-time Emmy winning Ozark star Julia Garner had beaten out the likes of Florence Pugh...

Snoop Dogg celebrates (and sometimes laments) his lifelong love affair with marijuana in the new video for “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” his song that features Tom Petty and Jelly Roll.
The song samples the Tom Petty classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and so it’s no surprise that the late Petty also makes “appearances” along with his vocals and harmonica from his classic track being featured throughout the new video. And who will be the first four sent packing when the Top 20 are revealed on Sunday, April 20?
Following each night's performances, Gold Derby conducted a poll to see which artists are striking a chord with viewers. After thousands of votes were cast, Jamal Roberts came out on top Sunday night with his performance of "Liar" by Jelly Roll. Trailing closely behind were Slater Nalley ("Over the Rainbow"), Breanna Nix ("Still Rolling Stones"), and Gabby Samone ("It's All Coming Back to Me Now").

The music, name and likeness of Notorious B.I.G. will soon have a new home as the late rapper’s estate is close to signing a deal with Primary Wave, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
According to multiple sources, publishing rights to the Brooklyn legend’s catalog of work are on the table for $100 million, as are master rights for a slightly higher price (another $30 to $50 million, an insider shares). Both include publicity rights which cover an individual’s name (Christopher Wallace was B.I.G.’s legal name but he also went by Biggie Smalls and, colloquially, Biggie), image, voice and other identifiable characteristics like key verses in lyrics. Master rights include the actual recorded works, as opposed to the compositions (or songwriting) covered under the publishing umbrella.
The deal is said to encompass 50 percent of both publishing and master rights, with the right of publicity included. While the transaction...

Norton is a well-established actor on the stage and screen who has turned in plenty of enthralling performances and been a part of critically renowned films and TV shows. Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard appeared to honor Sinéad O’Connor during “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” on Sunday night.
The duo, who also performed during the “Saturday Night Live” concert special two nights prior, this time performed the Prince song, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The 1985 track was made famous by O’Connor when she recorded it for her second studio album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” in 1990.
In 1992, O’Connor performed a cover of Bob Marley’s “War” on “Saturday Night Live.” At the end of the episode, hosted by Tim Robbins, she ripped up a photograph of Pope John Paul II. As she threw the pieces onto the floor, she said, “Fight the real enemy.” Following the performance, she shared that she made the move as an effort to call out sexual abuse happening in the Catholic Church.

Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon kicked off Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special with a touching duet.
The Grammy winners introduced each other before they opened the NBC broadcast by performing Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound.” Simon pointed out that he performed the same track on SNL in 1976 with George Harrison, while Carpenter joked that neither she nor her parents were born at the time.
After they concluded their performance, Carpenter and Simon kicked off the special by reciting SNL‘s signature catchphrase, “Live From New York, it’s Saturday night,” despite the special airing on Sunday. From there, Steve Martin appeared to deliver the monologue.
Carpenter took the stage later Sunday night for a bridesmaid skit inspired by SNL‘s viral Domingo skit with Ariana Grande, which featured music from her track “Espresso.” There, Marcello Hernández reprised his role of Domingo once more, while Pedro Pascal and Bad Bunny...

Despite premiering on the same day as A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet, Nosferatu has outpaced its biggest competitor on its way to becoming one of the biggest movies of 2024 – and one of the most successful horror movies of all time. At the time of writing, Nosferatu has grossed $94 million at the domestic box office and $77 million internationally for a worldwide cumulative haul of $172 million. This $94 million total in the U.S. is enough to makeNosferatu one of the top 25 highest-grossing movies of 2024, pushing it past The Fall Guy (Ryan Gosling), which finished its theatrical run at $92 million. Nosferatu would need another $2 million to pass Bob Marley: One Love, another musical biopic starring Kinglsey Ben-Adir and detailing the life of the late Bob Marley.

Musical biopics have become so regular in today's Hollywood landscape that movies are trying anything and everything to stand above the rest. Interestingly, in 2024, several musical biopics were released, such as Bob Marley's One Love, Back to Black and the Academy Award-nominated A Complete Unknown. Although technically a documentary with major artistic license, Pharell Williams' Piece by Piece told his professional and life story through the lens of LEGOs. It was an incredibly inspired and fascinating choice that interested audiences who weren't aware of how impactful Pharell Williams had been on the music industry. The movie went as far as to show real-life interviews and testimonials in Lego form, adding a beautifully colorful and nostalgic view to one of music's modern savants. Another movie that took an incredibly inspired chance in 2024 was the musical biopic of British superstar Robbie Williams: Better Man, where Williams is portrayed by a CGI monkey.

It seems inevitable that every well-known musician will inevitably get their own biopic, as the popularity of biographical films centered on iconic artists has skyrocketed in recent years. Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis were both major award season contenders, and films such as Straight Out Compton and Rocketman were critical and financial successes. Unfortunately, the genre grows significantly less interesting when the films serve as nothing but free publicity for their subjects; considering that the estates of Bob Marley and Tina Turner were involved in the production of Bob Marley: One Love and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, respectively, it isn’t a shock that both films feel like sanded-down versions of the truth. However, A Complete Unknown and Better Man are able to showcase more nuanced portrayals of their subjects, as they do not entirely lionize everything that Bob Dylan and Robbie Williams did.

Snoop Dogg is facing significant criticism after performing at an inauguration party for President-elect Donald Trump.
The rapper, 53, took the stage at the first-ever Crypto Ball on Friday night in Washington D.C., an event hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks. Sacks, a Silicon Valley investor, is set to join the Trump administration as the AI and Crypto Czar.
Footage of Snoop’s performance sparked backlash across social media. Some fans labeled the move as “culturally embarrassing” and “disrespectful.”
Critics expressed their disappointment, with one user on X writing, “Wait a goddamn minute, @SnoopDogg is playing Trump’s inauguration???? Aw hell naw.” Another user stated, “What is Snoop Dogg’s new name? I’ll go first: Snoop Fraud.”

Sally Aitken is shining a light on an under-explored, but important, natural subject in Every Little Thing. Having gotten her start behind the camera with the PBS period miniseries Colonial House, Aitken has helmed both narrative and documentary projects throughout her career, though has largely been focused on the latter genre, ranging from Getting Frank Gehry to Disney+'s Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story. “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” These words by Bob Marley ring so true, especially when you look at people who’ve been hit hard by life’s unpredictable storms, yet somehow manage to keep going. And who better than Mel Gibson to embody this? The man who made his name playing warriors, rebels, and fearless leaders on-screen, has faced battles off-camera that could rival the most harrowing film scripts.

Joe Bradley and Maddi Reese are in a relationship, Tj Dinch is trying to find romance in Charleston, Emmy Sharrett and Will Kulp are still very much in love, and Grace Lilly is on her healing journey that consists of seeing Bob Marley while using ayahuasca.
When the show first aired in late 2022, it was a spin-off of Bravo's beloved series Southern Charm as it centers around the employees at Leva Bonaparte's Republic Garden & Lounge in Charleston, South Carolina. In fact, it also resembles Vanderpump Rules in a way, with Leva often giving out free advice to her employees, who all have their own personal issues aside from being servers, bartenders, and managers.
Unfortunately, Leva had to come to the defense of her show after some had called it fake.

Nirvana’s Nevermind has just become only the ninth release to spend 700 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. When you eliminate greatest-hits compilations, it’s only the fourth studio LP to achieve that milestone.
The game-changing 1991 album sits at No. 120 on the latest Billboard 200 chart, it’s 700th non-consecutive week on the overall albums tally. As far as studio albums are considered, only Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon (990 weeks), Metallica’s “Black Album” (767 weeks), and Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans (706 weeks) top Nirvana’s sophomore LP.
Among the other releases in the Top 9 are greatest-hits collections from Bob Marley and the Wailers (865 weeks), Journey (835 weeks), Creedence Clearwater Revival (724 weeks), Eminem (714 weeks), and Guns N’ Roses (704 weeks).
Upon its release in September 1991, Nevermind changed the face of rock music. At a time when hair metal was dominating MTV and radio airwaves, the Nirvana album helped usher in a grunge and alternative revolution,...

James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown takes its title from one of the most famous rock songs of all time and most of its information from Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric!: Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties. Dylan’s song “Like a Rolling Stone” has been covered by artists as disparate as Bob Marley and the Wailers, Green Day and the actual Rolling Stones, while Wald’s book uses 368 pages to explain the cultural significance of just 24 hours in Bob Dylan’s storied career.
A whole industry has grown up around Dylan, with followers collecting books about him, bootleg recordings and, in one case, even rooting through his trash can (a stunt that crossed a line for more serious “Dylanologists”). He has been touring regularly, all over the world, for 60 years, and yet he remains a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

Holiday shopping can be, well…hard. No one seems to make wish lists anymore, and every time you try to ask a loved one what they would want, you are met with responses like “I don’t need anything this year” or “Don’t spend your money on me.” It seems like an impossible feat.

Millie-Jean Black is not TV’s typical leading detective. She’s not male. She’s not white. And she’s not pursuing cases in New York City or London.
Instead, it’s Kingston. And over the five-episode limited series Get Millie Black — a joint production for HBO and the U.K.’s Channel 4 produced by Motive Pictures, founded by former Channel 4 executive Simon Maxwell — both her life and Jamaica, the country of her birth and lineage, unfold on screen in ways previously shielded from the outside.
Created and executive produced by novelist Marlon James, who won the prestigious Man Booker Prize for his 2014 novel A Brief History of Seven Killings, a first for a Jamaican-born writer, Get Millie Black is not content with just solving crimes. Instead, the series strives to show both why Millie is compelled to solve crimes and why those crimes need to be solved in the first place.

“Bob Marley: One Love”
Bob Marley’s fans have long been brought together by joyous songs, but his revolutionary ideas are sometimes overlooked because the music is so uplifting. His son Ziggy Marley says, “In order to better understand Bob’s message you have to look past the legend and see the human being, his struggles, emotionally, spiritually and physically.” The film “Bob Marley: One Love” does just that. It reminds us ofMarley’s courage in pursuit of his mission (dare we call it a vocation?), showing him performing days after an assassination attempt,...

It’s a good year for the musically inclined. This awards season is full of actors who sing. And that doesn’t just mean the performers who were already known for their vocal chops like musical theater star Cynthia Erivo and pop singer Ariana Grande in “Wicked.” There are a number of singing actors for whom music isn’t their primary claim to fame, like Timothée Chalamet in “A Complete Unknown,” Zoe Saldaña in “Emilia Pérez,” Angelina Jolie in “Maria,” Kingsley Ben-Adir in “Bob Marley: One Love,” and even Saoirse Ronan in “Blitz.” Will those stars get a bump for showing their vocal range in addition to their dramatic range?
Some stars over the last 20 or so years were recognized for expanding their repertoires. Nicole Kidman earned an Oscar nom for the 2001 musical “Moulin Rouge!” — though her co-star Ewan McGregor was snubbed despite also doing his own singing. “Chicago” (2002) earned...

Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Lucy Walker began a Saturday panel discussion on stories that travel by describing her own wanderlust backstory.
“As a girl growing up in London, I didn’t have enough money to travel. And I didn’t think being on vacation was the most interesting way to see the world. And yet I really wanted to travel and work and understand people, so I’ve designed myself a job making documentary films where I get to travel the world,” said Walker, who arrived at the International Film Festival of India in Goa having earlier this week won another award, in New York, for her Nepal-set tale “Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lakhpa Sherpa.”
“When I make a film, I always have a question, one that I’ll drop everything to find out about: what’s going to happen? Will they be able to climb the mountain? Will they be okay?...

Actors transforming into famous figures for biopics isn’t exactly a new phenomenon. In recent years, we’ve seen Marisa Abela’s Amy Winehouse in Back To Black, Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Bob Marley in One Love, Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, and Sebastian Stan’s Donald J. Trump in The Apprentice. But just when the market for such movies may have been running the risk of getting overcrowded, along comes Waltzing With Brando to make us an offer we can’t refuse. That offer? Titanic actor Billy Zane going absolutely all-in to play Marlon Brando in a comedy about The Godfather legend’s efforts to create a sustainable pocket of paradise on a tiny Tahitian island. If it sounds barmy, then that's nothing compared to how it looks — just check out the extraordinary trailer for Bill Fishman’s film below:

We’ve already had our fair share of biopics this year. Bob Dylan, Donald Trump, Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, and the list goes on. No wonder some people were skeptical about the response Bill Fishman’s next directorial venture would generate, with some fearing that the fans had had enough. What they had forgotten was that it was Marlon Brando’s story.
Starring Billy Zane in the titular role, the first trailer of the biopic has just been released. And fans have already indicated that they are all in for seeing the story unfold before their eyes.

Just Go with It's soundtrack features the perfect mix of songs to usher the story toward every step of the way. The romantic comedy stars Adam Sandler as a plastic surgeon whose big move is to pretend he is married so he can hook up with women without ever having to call them again. However, when he thinks he has found a girl he would want to marry for real, he needs his work assistant (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend to be his soon-to-be ex-wife. Of course, this leads to an even more outrageous series of events and an unlikely love story.

Sinead O’Connor Rips Up Pope’s Photo on Live TV: A Controversial Moment Remembered! (Photo Credit – Wikimedia)
It was October 3, 1992, a night that would etch itself into pop culture history. Sinéad O’Connor, the punk spirit wrapped in reluctant pop star clothing, took to the Saturday Night Live stage and did the unthinkable: she ripped up a photo of Pope John Paul II. With each tear—once, twice, thrice—O’Connor’s actions mirrored her turbulent journey through fame, a journey she had never anticipated. Just two years prior, she’d soared to the top with her iconic cover of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U, only to find herself at the center of a storm she never requested.
The photo she tore wasn’t just any photo; it was a profoundly personal symbol tied to her fraught relationship with her late mother. O’Connor had promised herself that one day, she would destroy it.

While in discussion to play Rita Marley in “Bob Marley: One Love,” actress Lashana Lynch “met up with [director] Reinaldo Green just to discuss, selfishly, my thoughts on being a Jamaican woman” and, “artist-to artist,” she wanted to “express the importance of the authenticity that will eventually be portrayed in this movie, which a lot of it boils down to accent. I wanted to know that I was auditioning for a project that would protect the accents, protect patois, and really represent Jamaica in the way that I know it deserves.” Watch our complete video interview with Lynch above.
