  • (1957 - 1969) Beginning in 1957, Henson made a series of 10-second long TV commercials featuring muppet-like characters Wilkins and Wontkins for Wilkins Coffee, a Washington DC based company. In each commercial, Wilkins attempts to promote Wilkins Coffee to Wontkins, who states his distaste for the product before experiencing various gruesome fates -- more often than not by Wilkins's hand owing to his negative opinion. Henson made 179 spots for the Wilkins company and, owing to the popularity of the ads, created similar commercials for other companies in other markets, eventually producing 360 in total.
