The Roman Empire was arguably the most powerful empire the world has ever seen and Spartacus was arguably the most successful slave/rebel leader who ever challenged it. The hit Starz historical drama series, Spartacus, based loosely on this historical figure, has made its streaming return on Netflix after a five-year absence. Created by Steven S. DeKnight and Sam Raimi, the series ran from 2010 to 2013, amassing a total of 39 episodes along the way as the story shifted gears from a personal revenge story against House Batiatus to a full-scale war against the Roman Republic. All four seasons of the historical series are expected to land on Netflix again starting on September 22nd,...

After five long years, one of the most brutal and gratuitous historical epics will make its triumphant return to the streaming arena that is Netflix. Loosely telling the well-known tale of an unstoppable gladiator who led a slave uprising against the Roman Republic, Spartacus will arrive in its entirety (that’s all four seasons) on Netflix later this month.
Debuting on Starz way back in 2010, Spartacus was created by Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) and Sam Raimi. The series was initially led by the late Andy Whitfield as the titular hero. After the actor tragically passed away in 2011, the series shifted focus onto another gladiator to tell a prequel story, before...

"An adventure 65 million years in the making ..." says the tagline on the poster for Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park." And for once, the ads don't lie. Decades later, this groundbreaking dinosaur adventure remains a masterclass in blockbuster filmmaking, with enough power, thrills, and wit to rival -- and in many ways surpass -- modern summer blockbusters, including the franchise's latest, "Jurassic World: Rebirth." (Hint: they should've stopped after one.)
Spielberg helms "Jurassic Park" with the same class and grace as his more serious pictures. Sure, it only goes about a foot deep in terms of its story and characters -- played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum -- but there's a sense of wonder percolating throughout, and plenty of weight given to the extravagant action scenes. Grown men practically weep at the sight of a Triceratops, and when a Tyrannosaurus rex attacks, its victims are paralyzed by terror and amazement.

Roughly two years after the continuation was first announced, epic footage for Spartacus: House of Ashur has finally been released, courtesy of San Diego Comic-Con.
The new Spartacus series takes a daring alternate-history approach, offering a fresh twist on the original story.
It explores a major "what if" scenario: what if Ashur had survived the events on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance?
In this reimagined timeline, Ashur is rewarded for aiding the Romans in defeating the slave rebellion by being granted control of Batiatus’s former gladiator school.
The series departs from the canon of Spartacus: War of the Damned and reshapes key events from Vengeance, setting the stage for an entirely new storyline and character arcs that follow a very different course from the original.
Thought you’d seen the last of Ashur? Think again. Spartacus: House of Ashur premieres this winter on Starz. pic.twitter.

We didn't even know we needed this, but as soon as it was announced, we started counting down the days for Spartacus: House of Ashur. The new series will bring back all the elements that made the original 2010 Spartacus series a hit, albeit in a slightly alternate universe in which famous traitor Ashur (Nick Tarabay) survived his execution. The series premieres this fall, and today at Sdcc, attendees finally had the chance to check out the full trailer for the upcoming series.

Tensions rising in the heat of Rome, blood getting spattered here and there, alliances getting formed and dismantled, gladiators with rocking bodies and, of course, a bit of sex for good measure. Hail Caesar! However, in the time period within which the upcoming Starz drama, Spartacus: House of Ashur, is set, no one is really hailing him. At this point in history, Gaius Julius Caesar is not yet the powerful, all-conquering Roman general who became dictator of Rome. Original Spartacus creator, Steven DeKnight, has returned to the world depicted in Starz's epic series. Set in an alternate reality, one of the original series' most hated villains, Ashur (Nick Tarabay), does not meet his death at Mount Vesuvius, but instead is rewarded with the Ludus of Batiatus (John Hannah) for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and ending his rebellion. In the process of crafting his story for the upcoming sequel, DeKnight needed another key figure to return.
Todd Lasance — now of NCIS: Sydney — played the key role of Julius Caesar in the 2010 series. While DeKnight wanted the actor to return to the role in the upcoming sequel,...

The dream of every gladiator when he or she steps onto the sands of an arena is victory, and an opportunity to rise to the very top as champion. Over a decade since it aired, but Starz's epic series, Spartacus, is still dominating the streaming charts, much like the gladiators within did. The original series ran from 2010 to 2013, returning audiences to the gladiator world and Ancient Rome. Thankfully, the long-awaited sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, will premiere this fall, and is we near its premiere, interest in the original series continues to grow. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the blood-soaked Spartacus series is the number one television series streaming on Starz right now. The 1999 film, The Mummy, starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Oded Fehr is on both formal and informal lists of importance. The 26-year-old film is considered a classic for many millennials, even with it only sporting a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1999 cinematic classic, The Mummy, is an iconic piece of film — and for good reason. Everyone has their own logic behind what made the Stephen Sommers-helmed adventure flick such a hit, but up there at the top is certainly the performances carried out by its leading cast, which included Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Oded Fehr. The legends about what Fraser went through and what damage he did to his body in order to bring the blockbuster to screens could make a movie of their own. Now, thanks to one of his castmates, we have a better understanding of how things ended up that way for the actor.

If someone asked you to name a movie about the classic Universal monster The Mummy, then chances are thoughts would instantly turn to Brendan Fraser’s much-loved combination of Indiana Jones and…well, more Indiana Jones. The 1999 action adventure with a touch of horror is still one of the most successful movies to feature the ancient Egyptian creature, and that means Fraser is best positioned to share his view on why Tom Cruise’s 2017 version didn’t just create a box office bomb, but killed the franchise it was supposed to kick off.

Before The Mummy launched the Dark Universe into a coffin-sized crater at the box office, it was Brendan Fraser’s swashbuckling 1999 version that had fans clinging to their seats — and loving every second of it. Known to many as the face of the Scary Movie franchise, Anna Faris has had a wonderful career, mostly within the realm of comedy. From The Hot Chick to recently being reported as part of the voice cast of the upcoming Toy Story 5, Faris has a filmography packed with highlights. One of her more forgotten efforts, however, came in the 2018 romantic comedy Overboard, which she starred in alongside Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez, John Hannah, Swoosie Kurtz, and Mel Rodriguez.

When it was announced that Spartacus was returning with a new sequel series, fans were surprised by some things about the announcement. The biggest one was that the new series would follow Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a character who met a pretty much irreversible end in Spartacus: Vengeance. However, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight explained that Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in an alternate reality. During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series creator revealed what other characters are going to return for the new series.
During the interview, DeKnight revealed that Starz wanted to do a Spartacus follow-up for years, but a number of events got in the way. He mentioned the premature death of Andy Whitfield, who was the title character in the debut season — he was replaced by Liam McIntyre (Bring Him To Me). It's been twelve years since the rebellion led by Spartacus (Andy Whitfield/Liam McIntyre) came to a crushing end in Spartacus: War of the Damned. Now, we are finally returning to the gladiator world with an unexpected figure in the lead. Spartacus: House of Ashur is finally nearing its premiere, and in order to tease the upcoming epic series, EW unveiled a slate of first-look images that showcase the new warrior, the very first female gladiator, and the return of Ashur (Nick Tarabay) as lead. The series is set to premiere on Starz this fall.
The images reveal Ashur like we've never seen him. When Leonardo DiCaprio Wanted To Be In The Mummy (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Before Brendan Fraser became the roguish Rick O’Connell with a shotgun in one hand and a smirk in the other, the desert winds almost blew in Leonardo DiCaprio’s direction, as per IMDb. Fresh off the Titanic wave, DiCaprio had his eye on The Mummy. Word is, he loved the script and badly wanted the role, but timing messed with the plan.
He had already signed on to do The Beach, Danny Boyle’s island-hopping drama that was supposed to show off his post-Jack Dawson edge. Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly asked for a delay on that film so he could chase mummies in Morocco instead. The producers shut that request down. Ironically, The Beach ended up getting delayed anyway.

One day longer and hosting unveils of big, big must-check-out series such as Paramount’s “King & Conqueror,” Fremantle’s “Sandokan” and BBC Studios reboot “Walking With Dinosaurs,” this week’s London TV Screenings did nothing to dent its recent status in a new biz order as one of Europe’s two key TV markets alongside October’s Mipcom.
It was these titles and a brace of classy star-studded crime thrillers – Andrew Lincoln’s “Cold Water,” Jesse Williams’ “Costiera,” Mark Gatiss’ “Bookish,” “Maigret” with Benjamin Wainwright – which looked to be moving the needle at this year’s London Screenings, which unspooled Feb. 23-28.

Fremantle is readying to unleash ‘Sandokan’ onto industry insiders during next week’s London TV Screenings.
“It’s simply a great epic adventure, based on a known IP. It’s ‘Poldark’ meets ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’,” enthuses CEO Commercial and International Jens Richter, promising action, adventure and some good old-fashioned pirating.
Starring Can Yaman (“Daydreamer”), Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”) and John Hannah (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), it’s based on the series of novels by Emilio Salgari and produced by Fremantle’s Italian content powerhouse Lux Vide. Set in the mid-1800s, it heads to a place inhabited by native Dayak tribes yet dominated by British law. Sandokan is used to fighting for his survival, but one thing catches him by surprise: love.
“There’s a portion of romance,” admits Richter. With each episode set in a different environment, “Sandokan” will “fit the needs of the market perfectly,” he adds.

Since the Silent Era of cinema, monsters like werewolves, vampires, and aliens have given audiences some brilliant movies, with recent movies like Nosferatu and Blumhouse's The Wolf Man delivering some great terror. Using isolation to ramp up the fear, these films offer everything from jump scares to non-stop suspense and paranoia as audiences are left to watch as characters are hunted by creatures of the night.
Monsters can bring more to a story than simple horror, with many of the best monster movies exploring themes of morality, religion, and human emotion, using creatures as metaphors. From remakes of beloved B-movies to modern reinterpretations of influential literature, these movies helped make modern horror cinema the powerhouse that it is. For those who loved Blumhouse's modernization of The Wolf Man, there are plenty of other great films to watch.

Not every reimagining of The Mummy has been a success for Universal. In 2017, the studio released an action-heavy reboot starring Tom Cruise that flopped in theaters, and is now heading to Hulu next month.
Beginning Feb. 1, Hulu subscribers will be able to stream The Mummy, starring Cruise as a soldier of fortune who accidentally unearths the ancient tomb of entrapped Egyptian princess Ahmanet, played by Kingsman's Sofia Boutella. Released in 2017, The Mummy was intended to be the first installment in the Dark Universe, a proposed cinematic universe that was supposed to be Universal's answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, after The Mummy lost Universal roughly $95 million (despite grossing over $400 million worldwide), plans for future Dark Universe entries (like Johnny Depp's The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem's Frankenstein) were scrapped.

HBO's hit series The Last of Us has released a new trailer along with a release date for the upcoming Season 2. With the original series premiering almost two years ago in January 2023, viewers have patiently waited for any and all news regarding the second season, which is set to adapt the second video game, The Last of Us Part II. Now, a brief new teaser trailer has given us a new look at the upcoming series and the official release date, April 2025.
The Last of Us Part II was a game plagued by controversial discourse regarding its subject matter and characters, primarily due to story leaks after a hacker broke into the servers of Naughty Dog, the video game company that created the series. Many of the story choices in the video game have been heavily discussed to this day, making the upcoming second season, which will adapt it, all the more interesting.

Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin will helm a new Mummy film slated for release in 2026, here are the details.
The Mummy was, of course, part of the stable of classic movie monsters at Universal in the 1930s, which also included Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolfman. Incidentally Gods And Monsters, the biopic of Frankenstein director James Whale starring Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and is well worth watching.
Fraser headlined the 1990s/early 2000s trilogy of Mummy films, alongside Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo and, in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson, who went on to star in spin-off The Scorpion King, which also lived on through a plethora of straight to DVD sequels. There were plans for a fourth Fraser Mummy film but, for various reasons, it never happened – we wrote about it here.
However, in the wake of Fraser’s Oscar win for The Whale,...

Well, it is Christmas time, so it makes sense that Blumhouse would give us a lovely gift to unwrap – a new The Mummy movie! After several big-screen iterations, including 1932’s version with Boris Karloff, the cult-classic Brendan Fraser-fronted adventure movies, and the slightly more ill-fated, Tom Cruise-starring, supposed Dark Universe-starting 2017 take, Universal’s mummified monster is back. At the helm will be writer and director Lee Cronin, the man behind 2023’s excellent Evil Dead Rise.
A Cronin project had been on the books for a while, announced earlier this year, but confirmation that it’s a new spin on The Mummy came today via an Instagram post from Cronin and Blumhouse. It reveals the script’s title page, with the caption ‘Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026’.
