Acclaimed director Ron Howard surprisingly had a tough time finding a distributor for his upcoming film, Eden. This is even with an all-star cast including Ana De Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law and Daniel Bruhl. The film eventually found a distributor when it was acquired by the studio Vertical for domestic distribution and they are looking to cap off the summer by premiering the movie on August 22. Ron Howard is reportedly developing a sequel to the 1991 hit film Backdraft, and Glen Powell is said to be considering joining up.

Here’s an interesting story which suggests that Backdraft, the 1991 firefighting drama may be getting a sequel. Well, another sequel that is given that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment released a direct-to-video follow-up in 2019. Given that Ron Howard’s production company are involved this time though, we’d imagine that should this come to fruition, this one would be a proper bells and whistles sequel with a sizeable budget and lots of movie stars.

There are two questions a viewer might ask going into the third season of Bosch. The first is what Bosch offers that other television shows about homicide detectives do not, and the second is what a third season of Bosch offers that the first two seasons did not.

The first of these answers comes easily: Bosch offers one of the most patient, intelligent, intriguing police procedural narratives on television, eschewing cliffhangers and easy answers while embracing slow pacing, character development, and escalating tension. Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) is a compelling character, a far-from-perfect father chased by his childhood demons. The directing, the acting, and the writing all hold attention and merit high ratings. Even the cinematography deserves praise. Unlike many other mystery shows – think Foyle’s War or Sherlock – Bosch does not fall apart with hokiness when it comes time for a shootout or car chase.

Quarles?) he might have brought back under different circumstances, all coming up just as soon as I come back here with a jackhammer... I want to start with the hat, because I know it was one of the few significant creative disagreements you ever had with Elmore (Leonard). At what point did you decide you wanted Raylan to end the series wearing the smaller Stetson that met with his approval? Graham Yost: Pretty early on in the season, we knew we wanted to create a character who really modeled himself after Raylan to one degree or another, and he would get a hat, and Raylan would end up with the bad guy's hat. Tonight, I have an interview with Graham Yost about who lived, who died, and why, and I have a review of the series finale coming up just as soon as we identify the worst possible ice cream flavor... The Atx Television Festival has announced the currently running shows that will be attending the event in Austin, Texas from June 4th to the 7th. The main highlight of the new entries is the presence of the FX series Justified. The appearance of the creators and castmembers at the Atx Festival will mark their first public interaction since the series finale airs in a few weeks, and will also give the show’s crew one more chance to go around the victory lap. Attendees have not been announced yet, but it has been confirmed that creator Graham Yost will be present.

The hour-long drama stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) in the titular role as a the grizzled homicide detective with a helluva gut instinct, Harry Bosch (named after that other Harry Bosch) who’s in pursuit of the recently-escaped-from-custody confessed killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations he murdered another suspected killer in cold blood.

Welliver is joined on Bosch’s hunt for justice by Jamie Hector (Marlo from The Wire!) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt.

After years of anticipation from Michael Connelly readers, Amazon just announced the launch date for Bosch, its first drama series, on Friday, February 13th, when all ten episodes will become available at once on Prime Instant Video.

Based primarily on elements from Connelly's City of Bones (2002), The Concrete Blonde (1994) and Echo Park (2006), the series follows relentless Lapd homicide detective Harry Bosch as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood.

The investigation of the boy’s killer takes on a life and death urgency when a suspect who’s confessed to the boy’s murder escapes custody and begins a murderous rampage across Los Angeles, taunting Bosch as the case turns deeply personal.

Civil war drama War Flowers has a familiar story.

The movie stars Christina Ricci (TV’s Pan Am) as Sarah, who’s struggling to survive with her daughter Melody (Gabrielle Popa, Whaling City). Her youngest child died of scarlet fever and her Confederate soldier husband John (Bren Foster, TV’s Days of Our Lives) is away fighting.

When the war crosses onto on her land, a wounded Yankee soldier (Jason Gedrick, TV’s Dexter) is left behind and Sarah tries to help him. Over time, they develop a bond.

Tom Berenger (Hatfields & McCoys) also stars in the independent film, which was written and directed by Serge Rodnunsky (The Portal). Screened in film festivals, the DVD and video-on-demand release is basically the premiere for War Flowers.

The DVD comes with a behind-the-scenes featurette.

There’s no doubting that television has changed dramatically in the last few years, particularly in regards to the acclaimed serialized fiction shows that have ground out a new niche as cinematic storytelling per excellence. Think of how Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad have utterly dwarfed episodic entertainment tailored to casual audiences. Randomly switch on Homeland midseason and you’ll be completely lost. Ten years ago, the hottest property on network TV would have allowed for a cave dweller to tune into any episode and get an hour’s satisfaction. This new form revolution certainly applies to Dexter, a show with its origins in literature adaptation and the narrative style to prove it. In many ways, you have to review the whole year’s pickings to get a real picture of where the show is headed, a better analysis of the quality on show.

Zap2it: You've raised three sons ranging in age from 22 to 15; are any of them aspiring actors?

Jason Gedrick: My youngest son actually co-starred in a short film I was in, and he was really terrific. At that point, he said, "I really don't like this. There's too much waiting around. This is for the birds." I said, "Believe me; I can relate."

That was eight, nine years ago, and he's just starting to maybe think about getting back into it. He's got some very, very wonderful instincts. He's got some physical gestures and nuance that I wish I had at his age.

Having made a significant and risky decision within the show’s narrative last week, ‘The Dark…Whatever’ proved to be a battle of how many steps backwards by the Dexter writing team could be rescued by positive movements forward, in effect whether good choices could offset the poor ones. By the end of the episode, the show came up out ahead, but only just, setting up to a very interesting final hurdle.

The unexpected visit of Hannah’s abusive, ex-con father unexpectedly proves to be hopeful as, despite Dexter’s reservations, the man seems to be reformed with a new appreciation for his daughter and ambitions to set up a new life in peace. It’s not long, however, before the real motives start...

Dexter Season 7 Episode 10 Preview: The Dark…Whatever

Dexter Season 7 has been a delightful return to the wonderfully twisted world of serial killing. Dexter’s relationship with Deb went in an entirely new direction and we were introduced to Isaak Sirko (Ray Stevenson), who arguably sits in the top five list of Dexter favorite villains.

Then the unthinkable happened in Dexter Episode 7.09, “Helter Skelter.”

Isaak was killed, and not by Dexter. It was an odd turn to say the least. One of Dexter’s trademark endings has always been to have the “season’s villain” end up on Dexter’s kill table. Now, with three more episodes left in this season. We have to look elsewhere for that final kill.
