Image
It’s a big news week for our old pal Swamp Thing. DC Studios head James Gunn announced that a Swamp Thing movie will be part of the first slate of DC films he will be producing as he reboots the DC Universe. The next day, we heard that Logan director James Mangold is in early talks to direct the Swamp Thing movie. And now Mvd Entertainment is gearing up to give the 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing a 4K Uhd release! The release date is February 7th, and copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.

Amazon Women on the Moon

Blu ray

Kino Lorber

1987 / 85 Min. / 1:85

Starring Lots of Actors

Cinematography by Daniel Pearl

Directed by Joe Dante, Carl Gottlieb, Peter Horton, John Landis, Robert K. Weiss

Mark Twain said “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” That applies just as well to 1987’s Amazon Women on the Moon, John Landis’s unofficial sequel to Kentucky Fried Movie and the bastard child of Joe Dante and Jon Davison’s The Movie Orgy. Like those back-handed tributes to the disreputable entertainments of our youth, Amazon Women is a smorgasbord of comedy skits, some served up just right and others pretty half-baked—but a judicious use of the remote control and patience rewards; overall the result is a good-natured vacation for the mind with three or four laugh-out-loud vaudeville sequences and a couple of bona-fide short-form classics. The...

Heathers of Horror: Heather Locklear in The Return Of Swamp Thing (1989)
[To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the cult classic Heathers, we're celebrating all week long with "Heathers of Horror" special features highlighting our favorite horror performances by women with the same name as the iconic clique from the 1989 dark comedy! Check here to catch up on all of our Heathers Week special features!]

Zoom! Pow! Zap! These are the familiar utterances of my childhood, as comic book heroes on the screen were given over to the less ethereal and the more pragmatic: diamond thieves, bank robbers, maybe the occasional mad scientist to remind you of the fantastical origins of the material. Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing (1982) had certain campy elements, but didn’t completely reach that sugar-coated rush I was looking for. Jim Wynorski’s The Return of Swamp Thing (1989), however, is overflowing with teeth-rotting material that my inner 10-year-old craves.

Let’s be clear: I’m down with the grittier iterations of comic books that have boomed at...

One of many, many anthologies to have graced the silver screen over the years (another of which, the horror anthology Nightmares is also being released on Blu-ray by 101 Films), Amazon Women on the Moon features madcap sketches and shorts centred around the eponymous film-within-a-film, a satire of low-budget, 1950s-style sci-fi. Incarcerated Woman Pushing for Her Right to Breastfeed Her Newborn Daughter
Heather Locklear, Monique Gabrielle, and Louis Jourdan in La Créature du marais II (1989)
An incarcerated mom at a New Mexico prison is fighting to regain her right to breastfeed her newborn daughter.

Monique Hidalgo, 33, gave birth to her daughter, Isabella, three months ago while serving a three-year sentence for parole violations after a drug case.

She successfully sued the New Mexico Corrections Department to allow women in prison to breastfeed their children, after a Santa Fe judge ruled on June 30 that stopping incarcerated mothers from feeding their children violates the state constitution.

But Hidalgo’s right to nurse Isabella was quickly taken away, because Hidalgo tested positive for buprenorphine, an opioid medication she...

‘Hobgoblins’ Review (Vinegar Syndrome)
Stars: Tom Bartlett, Paige Sullivan, Steven Boggs, Tamara Clatterbuck, Duane Whitaker, Daran Norris, Billy Frank, Jeffrey Culver | Written and Directed by Rick Sloane

As someone who grew up haunting video stores throughout the late 80s and well into the 90s, director Rick Sloane was something of an icon. You see I was one of those teenagers who loved to rent any and all T&A comedies I could lay my hands on, and Sloane was the man behind Vice Academy and its six, yes six(!) sequels. Why Vice Academy? Well my other love at the time was horror movies, and in particular those featuring scream queens such as Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer, Brinke Stevens and Monique Gabrielle… and Vice Academy – and its immediate sequel – starred the one and only Ms. Quigley – it was, at least for me at the time, kismet: Linnea Quigley and T&A comedy? Sounded like heaven...

Producer of Four-Decade-Long Emmanuelle Franchise Dead at 72
'Emmanuelle' movies producer Alain Siritzky dead at 72 (photo: Sylvia Kristel in 'Emmanuelle' 1974) Emmanuelle franchise producer Alain Siritzky died after what has been described as "a short illness" on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at a Paris hospital. Siritzky, whose credits include dozens of Emmanuelle movies and direct-to-video efforts, several of which starring Sylvia Kristel in the title role, was 72. Ironically, Alain Siritzky didn't produce the original, epoch-making 1974 Emmanuelle. He became involved in that Yves Rousset-Rouard production via his Parafrance Films, which distributed Emmanuelle in France. 'Emmanuelle': 1974 movie sensation A couple of years after the release of Deep Throat and The Devil in Miss Jones (not to mention Boys in the Sand and Eyes of a Stranger), and the year after Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider sparked a furor by having simulated sex in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris, the 1974 French release Emmanuelle still managed to become a worldwide cause célèbre.

Party Favors: Restoring Sanity
Burbank - Traci Lords was the biggest name in showbiz in 1986, but for all the wrong reasons. She had become a major star in the adult industry. Her run started as Penthouse Pet of the month for the issue that exposed Vanessa Williams in September of 1984. Dozens of video titles appeared as she became the it girl noted for her youthful looks.

There was a reason for her looking so young: she’d used fake IDs to appear 20. She was under 18 in dozens of her adult films. Only one was made after she turned 18. The FBI and other police agencies poured over the valley investigating everyone connected to the industry. In the midst of this ugliness, Traci Lords still dreamed of being an actress. Luckily she found entry into the profession through the gates of Roger Corman’s studio.

She was signed to remake Not of This Earth with Jim Wynorski directing.

The 10 Sexiest Scream Queens
One of the things I love best about the internet is that people post movie-related lists and then other people get to comment on all the things the lists did wrong (or, sometimes, did right). Today, in anticipation of this week's Sorority Row, Moviefone posted a list of the ten sexiest scream queens. It's a fun list, and it's wise enough to go all the way back to Fay Wray (King Kong) and Janet Leigh (Psycho), and it includes two essentials: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Marilyn Burns (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It also includes Shannon Elizabeth, a dubious choice for films like Jack Frost, 13 Ghosts and Cursed (although I'm glad someone has thrown Cursed back into the ring; it's silly but it's also sexy, well-acted and very sharply directed by Wes Craven).

I like Adrienne Barbeau as a choice, too, even though she's really only a "scream queen" in one movie,...
