Is ‘Who’s The Boss?’ Sequel Moving Forward?
Image
Who’s the Boss? is a classic sitcom that lasted for eight seasons, from 1984 to 1992. There had been interest in bringing back the characters with a new sequel series. However, the production has just received an important update. Interestingly enough, there had been other attempts to give the series a spin-off over the years.

The Project Had Been In Development Since 2020

The original series starred Tony Danza as Tony Micelli, a baseball player who becomes a housekeeper for advertising exec Angela, played by Judith Light. Alyssa Milano played Tony’s daughter Samantha while Danny Pintauro played Angela’s son Jonathan. Katherine Helmond also played Angela’s mother Mona, who many fans joked was the real “boss” of the show.

Interest in developing a Who’s The Boss? revival first became known in 2020, with the project going to Amazon Freevee. Danza and Milano were notably set to reprise their roles from...

The 10 Best Donna Dixon Movies & TV Shows Ranked
Image
Donna Dixon was a staple of 1980s comedies, frequently appearing alongside her husband, Dan Aykroyd, in some of the decade's classics. Dixon began her career as a model, winning Miss Virginia USA in 1976 and competing in both Miss USA 1976 and Miss World USA 1977 (via 2Paragraphs). She began her acting career in 1980, with a starring role in the early Tom Hanks vehicle Bosom Buddies. Her Miss USA looks, and modeling background naturally had Dixon cast as romantic leads or girls next door, but that belied her real talent as a multidimensional actor.

In her first film, Doctor Detroit, Dixon met Dan Aykroyd, and the pair married that same year. The ever-funny Dan Aykroyd and the charming Dixon made a great pair in the next three films they made together. They also had three children together; Danielle, Belle, and Stella. In April 2022, after 39 years of marriage, Dixon and Aykroyd announced they would be separating,...

Hollywood Flashback: On ‘Bosom Buddies,’ Tom Hanks Became a Star in Drag
Image
In 2023, anti-drag laws are being debated in at least 14 states, including Tennessee, the first to officially ban “adult cabaret performances” — which includes male or female impersonations — in public spaces or in the presence of children. But in 1980, drag formed the centerpiece of a new ABC sitcom.

Bosom Buddies is notable for being the first big break for Tom Hanks, then 24, and paired him with relative newcomer Peter Scolari, then 25. They played Kip Wilson and Henry Desmond, respectively — two pals who assume female alter-egos named Buffy and Hildegard in order to live in an affordable women’s hotel in New York City. The show was conceived almost by accident by Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett, the duo behind a raft of 1970s hit sitcoms including Happy Days, Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley.

Buddies was pitched to ABC as a male version of the latter, reminiscent of “a sophisticated Billy Wilder comedy.

How The Simpsons Enjoys a Special Relationship with Santa Claus
Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and Yeardley Smith in Les Simpson (1989)
Santa Claus has been a consistent presence on The Simpsons from the very first episode, and not strictly contained within the holidays. Homer wanted to be him. Abe and Bart wanted to kill him. The family dog is named after him, and Mr. Burns routinely releases the hounds on him. The very image of Santa once saved Homer’s life. The town of Springfield brought a class action suit against him, even if they do trust him enough to hawk TV savings at Sprawl-Mart or buy Dancing Santas off YouTube. Here are the many ways in which Santa Claus has impacted The Simpsons.

Santa doesn’t get special treatment in the first episode of season 1, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire,” which was titled onscreen as “The Simpsons Christmas Special.” The episode premiered on Dec. 17, 1989, when the world still treated Father Christmas with respectful kid’s gloves. “There’s only...

Joe Biden Boosted By Hollywood Donors In Latest Quarter: Jeffrey Katzenberg, Bob Iger And James Murdoch Among Major Contributors
Image
Joe Biden’s presidential campaign got a big boost in the latest quarter that brought it into closer parity with Donald Trump’s fundraising juggernaut, as the former vice president saw major contributions from a number of industry moguls and media titans.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, who hosted an event for Biden last month, gave $617,800 to the Biden Victory Fund, the joint fund-raising committee set up for the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. Also giving was Steven Spielberg, who chipped in $250,000, along with his wife, Kate Capshaw, who gave the same amount.

James Murdoch, the son of Rupert Murdoch, and his wife Kathryn each donated $615,000 to the victory fund.

Other contributors included Bob Iger, the executive chairman of The Walt Disney Co., who gave $250,000. Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of Roy E. Disney who is a documentary filmmaker and social activist, gave $50,000 to the Biden fund.

Doug Liman Circling Warner Bros’ ‘Cannonball Run’ Re-Ignition
Doug Liman at an event for Great Directors (2009)
Exclusive: We are hearing that Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is in early talks to take over the directing reigns of Warner Bros.’ reboot The Cannonball Run, the 1980s action comedy franchise made popular by star Burt Reynolds and director Hal Needham.

Warner Bros. production executives Jesse Ehrman and Paul Perez are overseeing the re-imagining for the studio.

Last year, Skyscraper filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber was in talks to direct a Cannonball Run reboot from a script by Night at the Museum scribes Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. A deal with Thurber wasn’t reached. Word is Liman will work off of Lennon and Garant’s version with a new scribe to be announced.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land (2016)
Oscars 2017: 'Moonlight,' Warren Beatty and the Perfect Hollywood Ending
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land (2016)
Forget it, Jake – it's La La Land.

No wait, sorry, there's been a mistake. it's Moonlight! Our bad.

What a glorious only-in-Hollywood fiasco, and what a sublimely insane ending to an Oscar night for the ages. It was just like the end of Bonnie and Clyde: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway bask in each others' glow, there's suddenly an awkward silence, they share a moment of doomed erotic eye contact ... and then oh, the carnage. The only thing missing was some sad banjo music. The Best Picture screw-up was...

Carrie Fisher
Dan Aykroyd Opens Up About Engagement to Carrie Fisher in Touching Tribute: 'I Hope She Kept My Ring'
Carrie Fisher
Dan Aykroyd is opening up about his friendship and romantic relationship with the late Carrie Fisher.

The Ghostbusters star penned a touching essay for Empire Magazine's upcoming farewell issue in memory of the Star Wars icon, where he candidly recounted Fisher's role in his life.

"While filming Blues Brothers, Carrie and I fell in love and during the shoot she moved in with me into a penthouse suite in the futuristic, aluminum-clad Astro Tower, which I knew to apologize for. Carrie had the most refined eye for art and design," Aykroyd shares.

Watch: Carrie Fisher Dies at 60: Stars React to Actress' Death

The pair, who met while Aykroyd and fellow Blues Brothers star John Belushi were castmembers on Saturday Night Live, lived together for some time in 1980, and they even thought about marriage, going so far as to get "blood tests for compatibility."

"Contemplating marriage, I gave Carrie a sapphire ring," the 64-year-old...

The Simpsons Christmas Episodes Are Cost-Effective Chimneys of Horror
Tony Sokol Dec 17, 2019

The Simpsons are only against the commercialization of Christmas because they can’t afford it.

What day is this? December 14th. Thank God! There's still four more days 'til Christmas. If the Ghost of Christmas Present actually brought Christmas presents, The Simpsons would hold a family séance and trim the tree with ectoplasmic residue. Christmas is the time of year when people of all religions come together to worship Jesus Christ, but the Simpsons are perennial irreverents. While the series follows the tradition of the anti-commercialization of Christmas set forth by Peanuts, even Millhouse van Houten knows that Christmas didn't get to be the No. 1 holiday by being about love. The Simpson family also finds the seasonal spirituality more than a little spooky.

The Simpsons are highly celebrated for their “Treehouse of Horrors” Halloween celebrations. Springfield is well-suited for the creepier seasons, but the family Simpson is...

Spike Lee’s Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus – Da Blu Review
A Kickstarter-financed Spike Lee Joint, Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus is a new kind of love story, one that centers on an addiction to blood that once doomed a long forgotten ancient African tribe. When Dr. Hess Green (Stephen Tyrone Williams) is introduced to, and then murdered with, a mysteriously cursed artifact by art curator Lafayette Hightower (Elvis Nolasco), he is uncontrollably drawn into a newfound thirst for blood that overwhelms his soul. Lafayette quickly succumbs to the ravenous nature of the infliction, killing himself, but leaves Hess a transformed man. Soon Lafayette’s wife, Ganja (Zaraah Abrahams), comes looking for her husband and becomes involved in a dangerous romance with Hess that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society. The couple marry, and Hess seems genuinely in love, while Ganja is genuinely in love with her new position, and not in...

Stars: Stephen Tyron Williams, Zaraah Abrahams, Rami Malek, Elvis Nolasco, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Joie Lee, Felicia Pearson, Jeni Perillo, Katherine Borowitz, Donna Dixon, Chiz Schultz, Lauren Macklin, Steven Hauck, Stephen Henderson, Rafael Osorio | Written and Directed by Spike Lee

The respected filmmaker hitting Kickstarter for help phenomenon seems to have died down over the last year or so but along with Zach Braff, Spike Lee was certainly one of the highlights of this short-lived trend. Shaking the virtual tip jar towards a great many people, myself included, he managed to get together a budget of just under $1.5 million, including a $10,000 donation from Steven Soderbergh and so presents us with Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, a somewhat surprise remake of 70’s indie flick Ganja & Hess. Even with my meagre donation, I think it was $10, it’s sad to say that I feel ripped off and I suspect most will.

The question...

Watch Adam Scott and Paul Rudd's Bosom Buddies Reenactment Side by Side With the Original
Last night, Adult Swim aired the fourth and final installment in Adam Scott's Greatest Event in Television History series, in which he and some of his pals create frame-for-frame reenactments of the opening credits for eighties TV shows (after ten minutes of mockumentary footage about the making of the reenactment). He'd already tackled Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, and Too Close for Comfort, so last night, he teamed with Paul Rudd to remake the lengthy, exposition-heavy opening to the Tom Hanks–Peter Scolari drag sitcom Bosom Buddies. (Gillian Jacobs takes the Donna Dixon role, Aidy Bryant does the late Wendie Jo Sperber, Parks and Rec writer Aisha Muharrar is Telma Hopkins, and Mo Collins nails Holland Taylor in just one face.) Watch the re-creation and the original side-by-side and marvel at the unicycle and handball skills Adam Scott had to master to pull this off. And how long did it...

'Wayne's World' 20th Anniversary: 25 Things You Didn't Know About Mike Myers' Classic Comedy
Want to make a Gen Xer feel old? Tell 'em that 20 years ago today, on February 14, 1992, "Wayne's World" was released in theaters. ("'Wayne's World' is 20? No way?!" "Way!") Lots of now middle-aged folks who spent too long living in their parents' basements (like Wayne and Garth) have fond memories of what may be the funniest film ever spawned from a "Saturday Night Live" sketch, a film that made a bankable movie comedy star out of Mike Myers, introduced the world to Tia Carrere, helped rescue Rob Lowe's career, and spawned countless catchphrases that viewers couldn't stop repeating. ("Schwing!" "We're not worthy!" "That's what she said!") Yet behind the movie's blissful silliness lies a secret story of off-camera bitterness and strife that threatened to keep the film from partying on -- as you'll read below. 1. Myers created the Wayne Campbell character long before "SNL," when he was still in high school.

Programme host Richard Wiese says, "The natural beauty of Alberta took our crew's breath away. Filming in the dinosaur bone bed was a rare opportunity and to discover a new dinosaur species was sensational."

Wayne's World actress Donna Dixon and Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler will also join Aykroyd at the site.

The celebrity dig, which will air on 5 November, will also help raise funds for the creation of the Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum.

David Koepp
Ron Howard is working on the 'Spy vs. Spy' movie. Let's pitch him some ideas!
David Koepp
Spy vs. Spy was created by a Cuban exile in the middle of the Cold War, but the appeal of the iconic Mad magazine strip is universal. Two enemies — one dressed all in black, the other all in white — eternally fight each other, using bombs and booby traps. It doesn’t initially seem like film material… but by George, this is Hollywood, and anything is possible! Thus: EW has confirmed that Warner Bros. is currently developing a film adaptation of Spy vs. Spy, to be produced by David Koepp, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard, with Howard also set to direct.

Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari, Donna Dixon, Thelma Hopkins and Holland Taylor will all be present, but we don’t know if Hanks and Scolari still have the legs to pull off a dress.

Some of you may have seen my alma mater, West Virginia University, get their butts kicked by Duke over the weekend. Locally, we’re just thrilled to have made it this far. But this story about this redneck state’s team coach hugging his fallen player is a fairly awesome commentary on masculinity, role models, and sports.

Hanks and Scolari Will Accept a TV Land Award for 'Bosom Buddies'
Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari in Bosom Buddies (1980)
Who besides myself has been aching for a 'Bosom Buddies' reunion? Your wish has been granted now that Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari will reunite to accept a TV Land Anniversary Award for that very sitcom, thirty years later.

Fellow cast members Donna Dixon, Thelma Hopkins and Holland Taylor will also be in attendance. Sadly, the late Wendie Jo Sperber cannot (may she rest in peace). The show will be broadcast on April 25th and will be hosted by Tim Allen.

While I won't say that 'Bosom Buddies' launched Tom Hanks' career (the movie 'Splash' gets more credit for that), it definitely showcased his comedic talent. Peter Scolari was also an excellent foil for him and even made a cameo in Hanks' directorial debut 'That Thing You Do.'

It makes you wonder what Kip and Henry are actually doing in the 'Bosom Buddies...

Don't Wig Out: Hanks Agrees to 'Bosom Buddies' Reunion
Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari in Bosom Buddies (1980)
By Josef Adalian

Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari are getting back together for a "Bosom Buddies" reunion set to air as part of the 8th annual TV Land Awards later this month.

Both actors are scheduled to appear on the April 25 telecast, though it's unclear if either will don the drag costumes they wore on the original 1980 sitcom. Hanks and Scolari played aspiring ad agency execs who dressed as women in order to land a spot in an all-women's apartment.

Also set for the reunion: "Bosom" cast members Holland Taylor, Telma Hopkins and Donna Dixon. TV Land says it's the first time...

Comedy Blu-Ray Round Up, May 12, 2009: ‘Major League,’ ‘Wayne's World,’ ‘Black Sheep’
Chicago – Paramount Home Video is unleashing waves of catalog titles this month, starting with an interesting quintet of laugh-fests that range wildly in subject matter and quality.

What do they have in common? Well, three are from the “Saturday Night Live” factory - “Wayne’s World,” “Wayne’s World 2,” and “Black Sheep,” but the other two are not. Those three are also from the ’90s, another tempting way to bunch these random titles together, but “Major League” is an ’80s comedy and “Without a Paddle” is from the ’00s.

Even quality levels seem like an inappropriate way to lump these titles together as even diehard fans couldn’t claim that Chris Farley’s “Black Sheep” or the silly “Paddle” should stand next to “Wayne’s World” or the beloved “Major League”.

Why even try and lump them together? They’re all comedies. They’re all Paramount. Anyone can find at...
