‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Wins First-Ever Emmy in Wake of Cancelation
Image
“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” may have been canceled, but it won the respect of the Hollywood industry.

The long-running late-night program picked up its first-ever Emmy statuette, winning outstanding directing for a variety series for Jim Hoskinson for the episode, “David Oyelowo, Finn Wolfhard, Special Apperance by Alan Cumming, Performance By Ok Go.”

Including the two additional nominations from this year’s Emmy lineup, the CBS staple had amassed 33 Emmy nominations since its debut in 2015. It was ranked as the second most-nominated show in Emmy history without a win, trailing only AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” which infamously lost all 53 of its nominations across its six-season run. The comedy “Newhart,’ which ran from 1982 to 1990, long held the record with 25 losses until “Better Call Saul” lost its final Emmy categories in 2023, coincidentally the same year “The Late Show” surpassed “Newhart” in the tally.

Many see the awarding of the...

‘Avengers: Doomsday’: Alan Cumming Confirms He’s Wrapped Filming His Nightcrawler Part
Image
Alan Cumming took home the Emmy for outstanding host for a reality competition program for “The Traitors” on Sunday night at the Creative Arts Emmys.

But backstage, Cumming, who is reprising his role as Nightcrawler from “X2″ for “Avengers: Doomsday,” was asked how he was preparing to play the character again. The actor confirmed he had already wrapped filming: “Well, I’ve already done it. I finished it.”

The actor, who last played the character in 2002, went on to say, “I did a lot of stunt work and training. That was amazing.” He joked, “The stunt people couldn’t believe that I could get up, let alone jump around and do this boxing and training.”

Cumming admitted he had forgotten to rewatch the first film before reviving the character. But it turned out to be advantageous to the actor and his process. “I think that was what really helped, because this is super intense,...

‘SNL50: The Anniversary Special,’ ‘The Traitors,’ ‘Pee-wee As Himself’ Lead Creative Arts Emmy Awards Night 2 Winners List
Image
Live from Los Angeles, It’s the Creative Arts Emmys — where NBC’s “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” dominated with seven awards — the most of any program on the second night of this year’s pre-Primetime awards. And when you count the entire “Saturday Night Live” universe, that number actually rises to eleven.

Also having a good night: Peacock’s “The Traitors,” which landed four Emmys, including one for host Alan Cumming; and Conan O’Brien, who won for hosted nonfiction series or special (HBO Max’s “Conan O’Brien Must Go”) and variety special (pre-recorded) for Netflix’s “Conan O’Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize For American Humor.” And Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum” won for unstructed reality program, as well as casting, while the streamer’s “Queer Eye” won for structured reality program.

‘SNL50’ Cleans Up at Creative Arts Emmys Night 2 (Complete List of Winners)
Image
“Saturday Night Live” and the “SNL50” specials cleaned up on Night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmys, winning 11 categories, by far the most of any nominee. Considering that Lorne Michael’s half-century-old comedy institution was already the most nominated program in Primetime Emmy Awards history with 372 nods, it was expected that TV Academy voters would respond well to its milestone fiftieth season in all its various forms. The “SNL” wins on Sunday included production design for a variety series; lighting design; sound mixing; technical direction/camera work; and writing.

Still, “SNL” wasn’t invincible, losing best documentary or nonfiction series to HBO Max’s “100 Foot Wave,” which also won for cinematography.

Channing Tatum Teases Gambit's New Avengers: Doomsday Accent: "You Have To Really Play With It"
Image
"Wooimbouttamakeanameformyselfere"

Channing Tatum is set to reprise his Deadpool and Wolverine role as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor recently revealed that the Ragin' Cajun will be taken a little more seriously when he makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a previous interview, Tatum explained why he won't be going "full Cajun" with his hard-to-understand accent for Doomsday.

“I’m not gonna go full Cajun. [Directors Anthony and Joe Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full Deadpool. They want to keep the drama and keep it tight. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter.”

Gambit...

Chris Evans Spotted Looking Jacked Following Reports He'll Return As Captain America In Avengers: Doomsday
Image
Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers/Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday may be one of the movie's worst-kept secrets. The trades have reported that he'll return as the Star Spangled Avenger, with various scoopers and set photos lending further weight to those claims.

Now, Evans has been spotted at the Toronto International Film Festival looking jacked and very much in "Captain America" shape.

Fans have even shared some photos comparing his physique to the start of the year, and there's a noticeable difference. Evans has had mixed fortunes since 2019's Avengers: Endgame; Knives Out saw him receive rave reviews, but Lightyear, Ghosted, and Red One all received far more tepid responses than his MCU work.

Channing Tatum Teases Mind-Blowing Avengers: Doomsday And Addresses Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool Rumors
Image
Channing Tatum's Gambit movie spent years in limbo, undergoing multiple rewrites and director changes before the Disney/Fox merger ultimately led to the project being scrapped.

With that, Tatum's dreams of playing the Cajun mutant ended. However, when the time came for Deadpool & Wolverine to populate The Void with Variants, Ryan Reynolds wasted no time in turning to his longtime friend, allowing Tatum to finally play a comic-accurate Remy LeBeau.

Deadpool & Wolverine ended by teasing Gambit's return, and Tatum will fight alongside the X-Men in next December's Avengers: Doomsday.

That's more than the actor could have hoped for in the early 2010s, and while we don't know...

Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds On Rumored Avengers: Doomsday Return: "[I Haven't] Set Foot On Set"
Image
Last month, Ryan Reynolds sent speculation into overdrive when he shared an Avengers logo that had been vandalized with graffiti, and we'd later get confirmation (or so we thought) that Deadpool will indeed return to the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday.

Though THR claimed that Reynolds will reprise his role as the Merc With a Mouth for Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated event film, Deadline seemed less certain. Various scoopers have since reported that Deadpool is "100%" in the movie, but we probably won't know for sure until the next cast announcement.

While promoting his new John Candy doc at TIFF (via EW), Reynolds was asked about the various Candy Easter eggs in Deadpool,...

‘Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds Addresses ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Questions, Saying He Hasn’t “Stepped Foot On Set”
Image
Ryan Reynolds is playing coy about a possible cameo on Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday after throwing comic book fans into a frenzy, hinting at Deadpool’s appearance.

The actor is at TIFF to promote the John Candy documentary he produced with Colin Hanks as director. During an interview, Reynolds talked about the John Candy Easter eggs he put in all three Deadpool films.

Entertainment Weekly took the opportunity to ask if there were any Easter eggs in Avengers: Doomsday and if that would confirm his involvement in the Russo Brothers-directed film.

“There’s four that I’ve got in there,” Reynolds joked. “Of course, I’ve written them all at home in my PJs, and nobody’s seen ’em, nor have I stepped foot on set. But, yeah, that’s about as far as I’ll go on that one.”

Ryan Reynolds says he hasn’t stepped foot on the set of Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday (2026)
Avengers: Doomsday seems to be absolutely packed with characters from across the Marvel Multiverse, but will Ryan Reynolds appear as Deadpool? Toronto: Brian Cox Trades Logan Roy’s Ruthless Boardroom for the Director’s Chair
Image
Forget the back-stabbing Roy family. For his first film as director, Succession star Brian Cox returns to his native Scotland with Glenrothan, a heartfelt story of reconciliation, whisky and the ties that bind.

Set in the rural highlands, the film follows two estranged brothers who reunite in the land of their birth. Donal (Alan Cumming) long ago left home for America, leaving older brother Sandy (Cox), behind to run the family distillery. Forty years later, the brothers finally re-unite, back on Scottish soil, to reopen old wounds and reconcile with their shared past.

Alongside Cumming and Cox, the cast includes Shirley Henderson and Siobhan Redmond. Glenrothan has its world premiere at TIFF. Protagonist Pictures is selling the film worldwide.

The project marks a departure for its two leads, who are playing far from their public personas. The Traitors host Cumming “butches it up a bit” as Donal, a rebellious, leather-jacket-wearing,...

This ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Just Confirmed They’re the Film’s “Secret Weapon”
Image
In a post-Endgame era, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is considered to be the Og Avenger who could deal with the multiversal incursions. The post-credit scene of Multiverse of Madness and his indispensable role in Spider-Man: No Way Home fairly pointed in that direction before Marvel Studios went a complete 180 and brought in Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom into the fold. Then Cumberbatch created more confusion by revealing that he isn’t part of the Avengers: Doomsdaylineup and then going 180 on that statement. Thankfully, now, the actor has revealed that he’s Kevin Feige’s secret weapon in the upcoming superhero mashup.

Given the confusion around Doctor Strange’s presence in Doomsday,...

Russell T. Davies Casts Alan Cumming & David Morrissey To Lead Channel 4’s ‘Tip Toe’
Image
Russell T. Davies has cast Alan Cumming and David Morrissey in Tip Toe, his latest queer Channel 4 drama that he said last month is “the strongest thing I’ve written.”

The Traitors host Cumming and Sherwood star Morrissey are Leo and Clive, who have lived next door to each other in Manchester for almost 15 years. Just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense. Davies has previously described Tip Toe as a cross between his cult Channel 4 drama Queer as Folk, which was also set in Manchester, and dystopian BBC series Years and Years.

Joining Cumming and Morrisey are Pooky Quesnel (The A Word, Moonflower Murders) as Clive’s wife Marie, Jackson Connor (Phoenix Rise, Masters of the Air) as Clive’s youngest son George, Joseph Evans (The Map That Leads To You, Cc Emily) as George’s older brother Saul, Elizabeth Berrington (Lost Boys & Fairies,...

Final Emmy Predictions: ‘Severance’ and ‘The Studio’ Position Apple TV+ for Breakout Year; Netflix Expected to Lead All Platforms
Image
Television’s awards season is nearing its grand finale, with the Creative Arts Emmys taking place over two nights this weekend, leading into the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 14. The main ceremony will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.

Apple TV+ enters the night with unprecedented momentum. Its critically acclaimed psychological thriller “Severance” leads all programs with 27 nominations. HBO Max’s “The Penguin,” a gritty Batman spinoff, follows with 24. Meanwhile, Apple’s dark comedy “The Studio” — the razor-sharp satire of Hollywood — tied the all-time record for most comedy series nominations with 23.

Many industry pundits project a historic showing for Apple TV+, with many predicting it will take home both drama (“Severance”) and comedy series (“The Studio”). Variety is inclined to agree. If achieved, it would mark the first time one network has won both top races since HBO accomplished the feat in 2016 with “Game of Thrones” and “Veep.

TIFF’s (Unofficial) Market Hot List Features Angelina Jolie, Sydney Sweeney, and Chris Evans
Image
Unlike Cannes or Berlin, Toronto has never been a market-first festival. But ahead of the launch of the official TIFF market next year, Toronto is looking to boost its industry credentials, positioning itself as the go-to for finished films — particularly mainstream English-language fare — without domestic distribution.

“Given the uncertainty in the movie exhibition space right now, [Toronto’s] going to give us a real snapshot of what the people who release movies think can work in the marketplace,” says Steven Soderbergh, who brings his latest, The Christophers, to TIFF without a distributor. “There’s no better barometer of what’s happening than a bunch of people who have to put movies out into theaters, making decisions about what they think can succeed.”

With prestige titles, bold debuts and star-driven dramas looking for homes, TIFF 2025 could prove a decisive test for the independent film business.

Doctor Strange Star Benedict Cumberbatch On Not Getting A Chair During Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveal

Marvel Studios announced the Avengers: Doomsday cast in a five-hour reveal video released in March, but some huge names were missing from that list.

Kevin Feige has suggested that more announcements will be made in the future, and with Earth's Mightiest Heroes not set to assemble in theatres again until next December, we could be waiting a while. In the meantime, a few actors have been semi-confirmed for the movie, including Benedict Cumberbatch.

At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the former Sorcerer Supreme travelled to the Dark Dimension alongside Clea to deal with an Incursion he'd supposedly caused. That dangling plot thread hasn't been resolved,...

Alan Cumming Shines In New Stills From Brian Cox's Glenrothan Before TIFF 2025 Premiere
Image
The Toronto International Film Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the crop of new movies it's presenting is truly worthy of such an occasion. The lineup is both incredible and diverse, ranging from indie darling Chloé Zhao's Hamnet adaptation to Rian Johnson's highly anticipated Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and all manner of titles and talent in between.

Veteran directors abound, but one of the more fascinating films premiering at TIFF is actually Brian Cox's feature directorial debut, Glenrothan. Cox has already left an indelible mark through his prolific acting career, most notably as the disillusioned patriarch in the wildly popular Succession, but...

Channing Tatum is set to reprise his Deadpool and Wolverine role as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, but it sounds like the Ragin' Cajun will be taken a little more seriously when he makes his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rumor: Doctor Doom's Mission In Avengers: Doomsday Has Been Revealed (And It's Bad News For [Spoiler])
Image
Much of Avengers: Doomsday remains shrouded in secrecy, though there are plenty of rumours still doing the rounds. It won't be until next December that we learn whether they're accurate, but it's good to have something to speculate about while we wait for official updates.

So far, we've been able to piece together at least some of Doctor Doom's mission. It seems the villain believes he's on a mission to "save" the Multiverse, and that Steve Rogers' actions in Avengers: Endgame—which saw him travel back in time for a happy ending with Peggy Carter—are the cause of the Incursions plaguing the Multiverse.

We know He Who Remains created a singular Sacred Timeline,...

Rumor: Ryan Reynolds' Avengers: Doomsday Status As Deadpool Gets Another Big Update
Image
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were two rare fan-pleasing successes for 20th Century Fox, so when Marvel Studios regained the rights to the X-Men franchise, it seemed inevitable that Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth would eventually enter the MCU.

That finally happened with last summer's Deadpool & Wolverine, a $1.4 billion mega-hit that finally opened the door to R-rated storytelling from the Disney-owned Marvel Studios. Since then, all eyes have been on when and where Wade Wilson and Logan will return.

After that run-in with the Tva, they've both made a permanent home on Earth 10005, a reality we anticipate visiting in Avengers: Doomsday when Earth 616's Mightiest Heroes clash with the X-Men.

Frank Grillo On Dcu Having A “Real Secure Handle On What’s Happening” & MCU Being “A Little Fly By The Seat Of Your Pants”
Image
As an actor who’s seen both sides of the aisle — the MCU and Dcu — Frank Grillo is comparing how the two powerhouse superhero studios, Marvel and DC Studios, approach their sprawling multiverses.

In an interview with People, the Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Peacemaker cast member noted that the two companies have “different” approaches to their filmmaking and ideating.

“It’s different. It’s not organized in the same way. [DC] is really like all the scripts are in front of you and you kind of have a real secure handle on what’s happening,” Grillo said.

The Tulsa King actor added, “And there’s nothing wrong with it, but [Marvel] was a little fly by the seat of your pants.” While Grillo noted the studio has “done very well,” he personally found it a “little scary” to be going into a scene dark — something fellow Marvel alums have shared,...
