It’s a question that’s been debated for nearly 60 years: What’s the saddest moment in all of Star Trek? Everyone has an opinion and, in the spirit of Idic -- Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations -- we’ll say that there is no wrong answer. But we at Redshirts Always Die, or more specifically, I, here at my desk, have an opinion.
Let’s explore some of the options. We cried when Kirk came upon a dying Spock in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The line, “I have been, and always shall be, your friend,” still reduces me to mush. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy sold it so well, paying off what was then nearly two decades of the bromance between the characters. Jean-Luc Picard and Q sharing a hug in “Farewell,” the Star Trek: Picard season 2 finale, also rewards years of a different kind of bromance.

“The vast majority of talent today do not need management.”
That was the verdict this afternoon of Jordan Schwarzenberger, who runs a company that has a single client, The Sidemen.
Speaking on a Deadline-moderated panel at SXSW London with a trio of top UK agents, Schwarzenberger made the case for why most young digital talent can go it alone.
“I think this is a trap of some of the more traditional management companies historically, where you sign people up en masse when they just don’t need it,” he explained. “If you don’t have creative ideas and you’re not able to stand the test of time then you’re not going to be able to win today. And management cannot do that. I think management actually is the icing on the cake but the cake has to be the talent and their own ability.”

To raise money for lymphoedema research, the actor sat before an audience for artist Frances Segelman, who admired her youthful, ‘pixie-like’ face while rendering it in clay
It began as a blob: a 12kg lump of clay the size of a watermelon. Three hours later, it had become Judi Dench’s head, 50% larger than usual, twinkle-eyed even in terracotta.
At Claridge’s hotel in London on Monday evening, Frances Segelman hosted her latest ticking-clock sculpt: paying guests watch as she kneads a celebrity bust on stage, the subject sitting quietly beside her. In the past, Segelman has done Simon Rattle, Joan Collins, Joanna Lumley, Boris Johnson, Mr Motivator and major-league royals, almost always for charity.

Marvel Comics made their way onto the realm of animated TV frequently, beginning way back in 1966 with the anthology series "The Marvel Super Heroes." The following year, Hanna-Barbera made a "Fantastic Four" animated series, and the company was off to the races. Marvel shows were met with only fitful success and popularity, however. Many youths recall the celebrated "X-Men" TV series from 1992, but fewer likely remember the 1979 series "Fred and Barney Meet the Thing," or the "Fantastic Four" and "Iron Man" shows from 1994.
It's important to remember that the popularity of "Spider-Man" (1994) and "X-Men: Evolution" (2000) are aberrations. The bulk of Marvel animated shows have historically flopped. After the debut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the sheer volume of Marvel animated shows increased exponentially, and now it's hard to keep track of it all. Many, many animated shows, both good and bad, kind of fell through the cracks. Many still await rediscovery.

Star Trek is well known for making its fans feel a variety of emotions, especially those episodes with somber themes. In the original series, the writers knew how to deliver a gut punch that left viewers with feelings that ranged from introspection to grief for their favorite characters. The series has many moments like this, but here are 4 of the saddest endings that are especially memorable.

Waiting until a few shopping days before Christmas to buy gifts is stressful. Picture having only had a few months to shoot, edit, and market a blood-soaked reboot of 1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night for the big screen. As of April 2025, Cineverse’s updated version is in production and is slated for a fast-approaching (and fitting) release on December 12, 2025.
Photos recently emerged of lead actor Rohan (Halloween Ends) Campbell, who plays the demented slasher in a Santa suit, Billy Chapman, taking over the role played by Robert Brian Wilson in the 1984 film. Supporting Campbell’s killer Santa are the original film’s producers, Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead. Horror fans will appreciate their presence since Schneid and Whitehead likely wish to preserve their legacy by delivering a blood-splattered Santa slasher.

Telling the story of the final years of the woman who married King Edward VIII and broke up the monarchy, The Bitter End comes from Mike Newell and is penned by Louise Fennell.
Rossellini said: “I am absolutely thrilled to join the incomparable Joan Collins and the brilliant Mike Newell in bringing this extraordinary story back to life. Louise Fennell’s script allows us to delve into the complex and devastating relationship between these two iconic women, the profound impact they had on one another and their lasting mark on history.

Kathryn Bernardo is a very good girl gone bad in Petersen Vargas‘ easy-to-digest revenge thriller shown on Netflix. The Filipino actress who has been dominating the country’s TV- and cinema screens since her childhood delivers her standardly good performance in a role that carries the film. Her very presence already guarantees a large viewership, and so does Dolly De Leon‘s which is something Vargas had most probably calculated on from the beginning. Both women are audience magnets and although their full potential isn’t even required for the two roles, they do shine. It is the clash of these two screen titans that brings back the spirit of the 1980s and briefly resurrects the memories of epic wars between Alexis (Joan Collins) & Cristal (Linda Evans) in “Dynasty”. But for that candle to burn longer, we would need more finely developed dramatic moments and less dramatic tears.

Updated Jan. 6, 2025, at 3:45 p.m. Pt with Nikki Glaser ranked following the 2025 Golden Globes.
Original Story Published Jan. 2, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. Pt:
From 1944 to 1981, the Golden Globes opted not to have an emcee, with Robert Preston and Linda Gray being the first to tag-team the role in the 39th year. The ceremony returned to host-less the following year before employing a series cohosts – including the likes of William Shatner, Charlton Heston, Joan Collins, Faye Dunaway, and Tim Curry – from 1984 until 1995. After that, the Globe host gig was retired until 2010, when Gervais reinvigorated the format. For the past 15 years, several hosts have come and gone, for better and worse. Here’s our definitive ranking of just how golden those emcees performed, from worst to first:
8. Jo Koy (2024)
In 2024, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the scandal-ridden longtime governing body of the Globes, was out and the ceremony relocated from NBC to CBS.

The image of Santa Claus has been curated over the years to become wholesome and a symbol of happiness. In the past, he had been seen as a representation of Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas. In the 80s, he seemed to take a darker turn as horror filmmakers decided to use his visage to corrupt the viewer’s expectations. This sweet and gentle man would now be a killer. Multiple films decided to use this idea, and a whole sub-genre of horror Christmas movies was born. Which ones are the best killer Santa movies?
Violent Night (2022)
Most killer Santa Clauses are villains, but this newer movie had the jolly man fighting for the side of good. This little twist makes the film even more fun. A wealthy family is held hostage, and it turns out their only hope is the fat man himself. David Harbour plays the legendary figure who...

Murder, infidelity, gambling, and sinister bed and breakfasts. We rank the stories in Tales Of The Unexpected’s first series…
From 1979 to 1988, Tales Of The Unexpected served up a semi-regular diet of murder, cruelty, betrayal and intrigue. An anthology show initially based on short stories by Roald Dahl (later seasons introduced work by other writers), the series could be described as ITV’s answer to Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Indeed, several of its stories were previously adapted in that American anthology show. And, just as Hitchcock showed up in front of the camera to introduce his episodes, Dahl appears here, seated next to a roaring open fire, providing an opening ramble about each story.
The title sequence, meanwhile, with its infuriatingly catchy theme tune and silhouettes of dancing ladies, feels like something from an early James Bond movie. Maybe it was Dahl’s homage to his contemporary and friend, 007 creator Ian Fleming…...

Sabrina Carpenter spent 2024 giving fans exactly what they didn’t know they needed — high-octane singles fueled by a singular aesthetic between camp and erotic. Forget Madonna; Carpenter might well be the modern Mae West, serving bombshell attitude while sending up the image of a sexy blonde.
Is it any wonder that Jason Sherwood landed the job as production designer of her Netflix holiday special, “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter,” based partly on a photo of Rosemary Clooney in a black gown against a hot pink backdrop in “White Christmas”?
“ It’s Easter egged to hell and back,” Sherwood told IndieWire over Zoom. “The tiered cake is a pretty direct reference to a Busby Berkeley number that’s pretty famous. ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ was on the mood boards. Almost everything has a reference to ‘White Christmas.'” Sherwood also looked to classic holiday specials from Judy Garland and Andy Williams...

Dynasty premiered on ABC on January 12, 1981. The show ranked #28 in its first season. By Season Two, it had broken into the top 10, and by Season Five, it had hit number one. So when should you start watching the show, even though all nine seasons are currently streaming on Amazon Prime? And should you even bother with Season One? Here’s why you should…and why you shouldn’t…below.

Why You Should Watch Season One
The first season of Dynasty was a much more down-to-earth show than the jewelry, fur, big shoulder pads, bigger hair, and camp-fest it eventually became. Krystal (Linda Evans) was but a humble secretary who felt out of place in her new husband Blake’s (John Forsythe) mansion. The servants, including snooty Joseph (Lee Bergere), made it clear that, no, she wasn’t imagining things; she really didn’t.

Full of celebrity interviews, wild anecdotes and ex-wives, this indulgent documentary gives the star the affectionate treatment he deserves, including an arch Joan Collins
That lovable British star Roger Moore, who ascended to movie Valhalla with seven James Bond films between 1973 and 1985, gets the indulgent, affectionate treatment he deserves in this documentary celebration, featuring interviews with Christopher Walken, Pierce Brosnan, 007 superfan David Walliams, franchise producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, his children Geoffrey (an eerie echo of his dad), Deborah and Christian, and of course Joan Collins who is almost Roger’s female equivalent in arch self-deprecating wit. Steve Coogan impersonates the Moore narrative voiceover, mostly reading from his garrulous memoir The 007 Diaries: Filming Live and Let Die, which in a less corporately controlled age Moore was allowed to bring out in 1973 as a tie-in.
This is a very enjoyable watch for Moore devotees, though the long stretch...

Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the adventures of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series laid the groundwork for every Star Trek movie and TV show that followed. In many ways, Captain Kirk and his crew were cowboys, flying through the galaxy by the seats of their pants, a model of exploration that earned Kirk a reputation for fighting - and sometimes killing his enemies. From the Romulans to the Klingons to the Gorn, Captain Kirk crossed the galaxy facing down some of the greatest enemies the Federation would ever know.
Despite three seasons of Star Trek: The Original Series and six Star Trek movies worth of combat, Captain Kirk admirably made a habit of leaving former foes alive whenever possible. Sure, Jim might give them a classic double-fisted punch, but more often than not, William Shatner's Captain Kirk chose not to kill. The Captain Kirk...

Some double acts have made such an impact that they'll never be forgotten. Laurel and Hardy, Lemon and Matthau, and Key and Peele have etched their names in the history books, some of the best pairings of Hollywood's Golden Age. Then, there are those lesser-known Golden Age Hollywood actors who have created some fantastic moments together but can live in a hazy memory that gets revisited from time to time. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope were enormous stars in their own right, and are probably most remembered for their solo achievements. Crosby's White Christmas gets replayed every year around the holidays, and Hope is still considered one of the best Academy Awards hosts in history.

Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.
But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. But when CBS wanted a Dallas spin-off, Lorimar made one of the characters a Ewing, and we were off to the races! You can watch the entire series from the start right here on Amazon Prime. Here’s why you should definitely do that.

Yes, yes, yes, we know. Dynasty was rebooted in 2017 and ran for five seasons. That’s not the version we’re here to talk about. We’re here to sing the praises of the first incarnation, which aired on ABC from 1981 to 1989, i.e. Peak Eighties. Sure, it may have initially been nothing more than an attempt to copy ratings juggernaut Dallas, with the same family battles over oil, only this time in Colorado rather than Texas. But, boy, did it become its own unique, crazy, bejeweled, cat-fighting entity pretty quickly. Here’s why you should be streaming Dynasty now on Amazon Prime Video.

"Star Trek" is a rich and sprawling corner of the media landscape. Countless shows and movies have popped up every few years ever since Gene Roddenberry came along with the idea for the franchise -- that and when Lucille Ball put everything on the line to make the original "Star Trek" series a reality over half a century ago. That three-season show has since become a staple item for sci-fi fans of all walks. It features classic characters like William Shatner's rule-breaking Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy's stoic Mr. Spock. It also kicked off with Captain Christopher Pike, a Starfleet commander who has resurfaced in the presently airing, nostalgia-laced spin-off series "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
While the original "Star Trek" series as a whole is hallowed ground for sci-fi aficionados, there's one episode in particular that stands out from the rest: "The City on the Edge of Forever.

Few names were as associated with a particular genre as Robert Mitchum was with film noirs, having starred in some of the best noir movies ever made. From his heyday in the 1940s right through his acclaimed career, Mitchums intense characterization and skill for portraying menacing, morally dubious characters made him the perfect noir actor who could walk the fine line between villain and hero. As one of the few actors who could give Humphrey Bogart a run for his money when portraying Detective Philip Marlowe, Mitchums filmography was packed with noir classics.
Mitchum excelled in black-and-white noir roles and brought a sinister power to psychologically rich genre-blended noir releases. With a recognizable deep voice, piercing weary eyes, and an old-timey handsomeness that made him stand out among the biggest action stars of the 1950s, Mitchums career was filled with undisputed classics and first-rate Hollywood features. Throughout his impressive Star Trek career, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) has time-traveled more than most. After his introduction on Star Trek: The Original Series, Spock quickly became one of the franchise's most popular characters. Because Spock was half-Vulcan and half-human, he felt caught between two worlds. Spock chose to embrace his Vulcan side, valuing logic above all else, but sometimes his emotions peeked through. As the Science Officer and First Officer of the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Spock often accompanied his captain on away missions.
Time travel has long been a staple of science fiction, and Star Trek has certainly embraced this classic trope. Every Star Trek series has featured stories that involve time travel in some way, meaning many Trek characters have ventured beyond their own time periods. Even among these many time-traveling Star Trek characters, Captain Kirk and his crew...

Big screen Westerns might've been falling out of favor at the U.S. box office in 1965 (thus paving the way for Spaghetti Westerns to become a surprise sensation when Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy rode into movie theaters throughout the course of 1967), but television Westerns were still swaggering their way to strong ratings thanks to "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and the hybrid Western/spy/sci-fi series "The Wild Wild West." And with "Rawhide" finally drawing to a close that year (thereby allowing its star Clint Eastwood to become a modern Western star), there was suddenly room for a new, sudsy, ranch-bound saga about scheming landowners and warring heirs.
"The Big Valley" whooped it up for a solid four-season run, running out of steam in 1969 at around the same moment the television Westerns began going the way of classical big screen oaters. Until then, viewers were hooked on the doings at the Barkley Ranch,...

Sarah Ferguson turned 65 today. She was born on October 15, 1959, to Ronald Ferguson and Susan Wright. Her father, Ronald, was a military veteran and was also (then) Prince Charles’s polo manager.
Her mother, Susan, was a documentary filmmaker. Sarah also had an older sister named Jane. Her parents separated in 1972 after her mother left her father for Argentinian polo player Hector Barrantes. When her mom left home, it affected Sarah, as she became very depressed.
When Sarah was 17, her father married a farmer’s daughter named Sue Deptford. In the summer of 1985, Sarah met Prince Andrew, who had been nicknamed “Randy Andy” due to his reputation as a “ladies’ man.”
Sarah and Andrew met through Princess Diana, with whom she had a very close relationship. In October 1986, she married the Duke of York in a fairytale wedding. During their marriage, Andrew was often away for long periods in the Navy.
