Why The Head Of Brad Pitt's F1 Pit Crew Looks So Familiar
Image
Joseph Kosinski's expensive new blockbuster "F1" centers very attentively on Sonny Hayes, a 60-year-old racecar driver played by Brad Pitt. Sonny appears to be down on his luck, as he lives in a van, and only makes ends meet by winning races here and there. Although he doesn't have a very solid career, Sonny seems content. He ostensibly has a gambling problem, but it never presents any serious obstacles for him. At the start of the film, Sonny's old friend Ruben (Javier Bardem) reappears in his life, saying that his skills are needed. Ruben leads a Formula One racing team that has been repeatedly losing, and Sonny's old-man experience -- not to mention his maverick-like, devil-may-care attitudes -- are required to whip the team into shape.

Sonny takes the job and meets the pit crew. Notably, he becomes the coach of Noah (Damson Idris), a skilled driver, but a cocky hotshot.

“Hannah Montana but with football”: Glen Powell’s New Show ‘Chad Powers’ Is So Disney Coded Miley Cyrus Would Cringe
Image
Glen Powell turns “extremely ugly” for his upcoming comedy series, Chad Powers. The teaser for Powell’s forthcoming project is out, and it shows the American actor, otherwise known for his good looks and charming personality, donning a fake moustache, curly wigs, and bulky prosthetics to go undercover and join a new football team.

Inspired by Eli Manning’s viral alter ego, the series revolves around Russ Holliday (Glen Powell), a failed college football quarterback who goes ‘disguise mode’ to restart his football career. Going incognito for career, comedy, and witty…very Hannah Montana-ish. Looks like Powell’s coming series is that kind of comedy, Miley Cyrus might want to distance herself from.

Debuting during game four of the NBA Finals, the teaser sees Russ getting dragged on social media after dropping the ball during a crucial play.

“Everyone says I’m done with football,” he says in the teaser. “There’s no such thing as bad press.”

Getting fitted for a wig and a prosthetic nose, Powell’s leading jock proclaims, “If I can’t play as Russ, I’ll play as someone else.”

The show also stars Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair,...

‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn Takes His Daughter to Her Final Dance Contest in a Sweet, Cliched Parenting Drama
Image
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a father and his young adult daughter embark on a road trip that takes some comically uncomfortable twists and turns before they’re finally forced to say the unsaid things that created so much distance between them.

Rick Gomez’s directorial debut “She Dances” doesn’t win any points for originality, with a premise that could be found in one form or another on the festival circuit in pretty much every year since the dawn of independent film. And it’s a little too willing to indulge in cliches, particularly in a first act that’s dominated by tired plot points like “the teenage daughter doesn’t know how to change a flat tire and Dad insists on teaching her” and “the hotel mixed up our reservation, so we’re stuck at the worst motel in town.” But even if it...

Why Bradley Cooper Was the Perfect Person to Kick Off the Final Season of ‘The Righteous Gemstones’
Image
There’s a famous story about director Martin Scorsese wanting to cast a “Cybill Shepherd type” for the role of Betsy the volunteer worker for his landmark 1976 film “Taxi Driver.” Shepherd’s agent, Sue Mengers, heard about the casting call and put forth none other than Shepherd herself.

“The Righteous Gemstones” casting department similarly went right to the top when looking for an actor to kick off the final season’s first episode. “Prelude” is a flashback-driven origin story of one Elijah Gemstone, a violent charlatan and drifter in the Civil War who possesses a gift for the grift, and the role is played by none other than Hollywood superstar Bradley Cooper.

“We needed somebody who the audience would immediately connect to, and that they would want to watch while not missing and hoping and wondering, ‘What’s going on here and where’s [Danny McBride’s] Jesse?’” casting director Sherry Thomas said.

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie series has been rounding out its ensemble for the last few months, and now the show has just taken a colossal step forward. ‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn’s Daughter Audrey Is a Standout in an Uneven Film on Familial Trauma
Image
Directed by actor Rick Gomez in his feature filmmaking debut and co-written with actor Steve Zahn, the sweet yet uneven dramedy “She Dances” is a proud family affair both on screen and off. When the title credits read “Introducing Audrey Zahn” at the start, the effect is undeniably disarming — this is papa Zahn, among the friendliest faces of many an ensemble piece, swiftly nipping any “nepo baby” talk in the bud by enthusiastically supporting his talented daughter, and starring alongside her too.

Young Zahn justifies that pride throughout “She Dances,” which traces the story of a father and daughter as they navigate domestic trauma during a road trip, and mend their broken bond in the process. The stilted writing and direction, sadly, leave a lot to be desired: Emotions are under-explored and the humor misfires, with a perfectly capable cast asked to deliver some truly clunky lines. But the two...

‘She Dances’ Review: Steve Zahn and Daughter Audrey Share a Sweet Pas de Deux
Image
There are probably quite a few proud fathers who would love to make a mainstream tribute to their own offspring. Few of them, however, have the resources — or talents — to handle it as well as Steve Zahn does with “She Dances.”

Zahn co-wrote, produced and stars with his dancer daughter Audrey in this lovely drama about, well, a proud father and his dancer daughter. But before we even see his perpetually fretting Jason, we meet her high school senior Claire. Claire and her mom Deb (Rosemarie DeWitt) are mildly panicked, because an emergency has come up and Deb can’t accompany Claire to her last-ever dance competition. It’s out of state and she needs a guardian, so … Jason it is. Claire wants nothing to do with her estranged father, and we can understand why when she and Deb call over to the depressing apartment where he lives. True to form,...

Tribeca Festival: Miley Cyrus’ ‘Something Beautiful,’ Barbara Walters Doc and 11 Other Films We’re Excited to See
Image
The Tribeca Film Festival is all about the music.

Three years ago, Taylor Swift brought her directorial debut short “All Too Well” and revealed her desire to continue working in film. This time, it’s Miley Cyrus who moves behind the camera with “Something Beautiful,” which is being billed as a “one-of-a-kind pop opera.”

“We’re all about showcasing new ways for people to express themselves and differentiate themselves and explore whatever new forms of storytelling are speaking to them,” says Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of Tribeca.

This year’s festival isn’t just about the pop culture icons — though it will premiere new documentaries on Metallica, De La Soul and Billy Joel. Tribeca’s nonfiction lineup also includes intimate looks at news legends, sushi masters and even a giant manta ray named “Willy Wow.”

Then there are films that put a meta-twist on things by having real-life fathers and daughters...

Matthew McConaughey’s 37% Rotten Tomatoes Desert Adventure With a ‘Silo’ Star Mines Gold on Streaming Charts
Image
Matthew McConaughey’s first movie in over five years recently debuted at SXSW to a stunning score of 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but one of his older films has been stealing the spotlight lately. McConaughey stars alongside Silo Season 2 veteran Steve Zahn in Sahara, the 2005 desert adventure following a master explorer who hunts for a lost Civil War battleship in the deserts of West Africa. Sahara has been streaming on Paramount+ for a while now, but the film recently surged into the streamer’s top 10, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. In addition to McConaughey and Zahn, Sahara also stars Penélope Cruz, and it earned a low score of 37% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 53% rating from audiences on the Popcornmeter.

Sahara came at an interesting time in Matthew McConaughey’s career. He was still nearly 10 years removed from earning his first Academy Award nomination,...

Tribeca X’s 2025 lineup: Bryan Cranston, Paris Hilton, and a year-round expansion
Image
Tribeca X was originally a one-day affair. When it launched in 2016 as part of New York City’s iconic Tribeca Festival, it was a single-day slate of programming for the creative advertising industry, capped by an awards show recognizing best-in-class, storytelling-driven marketing. Then, in 2024, it doubled in size, expanding to two days of live programming.

For 2025, it’s jumping into its biggest expansion yet. Its core event will still welcome attendees June 9-10 at Spring Studios in New York City, bringing together “top talent from Hollywood, advertising, and business for two days of high-impact conversations and networking at the intersection of creativity, commerce, and culture,” it says.

But on top of that core event, it now plans to offer year-round programming during activations at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Emmys, Art Basel Miami Beach, and more.

“Tribeca X is scaling to meet the moment. Our year-round expansion positions Tribeca...

Apple TV+ announced via X with a behind-the-scenes photo that filming has wrapped on Season 3 of its critically acclaimed dystopian series Silo starring Rebecca Ferguson. For those at home, however, it means the countdown is on until the show picks up from where that shocking finale left off. A release date has yet to be set.

Based on Howey's Wool trilogy and helmed by Graham Yost, Silo has centered on the remnants of humanity who have been kept sheltered from the inhospitable conditions outside in deep, suffocating multi-layered facilities known as Silos. ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Reaches Nether-Level Box Office Milestone Ahead of Fourth Weekend in Theaters
Image
A Minecraft Movie is set to enter its fourth full weekend in theaters, and the film has already passed yet another gargantuan box office milestone. At the time of writing, Minecraft has grossed a whopping $355 million in domestic markets and $372 million internationally, which has helped its global cumulative haul eclipse $725 million at the global box office. The Jack Black-led video game adaptation is already the highest-grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office after passing Captain America: Brave New World, and it has its sights set on becoming the highest-grossing video game movie ever. However, if A Minecraft Movie wants to pass The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it still needs to add around $630 million to its total, which could be a long shot as things are starting to slow down.

A Minecraft Movie, which also stars Jason Momoa, kicked off its box office run with a forceful $162 million domestic debut,...

Steve Zahn and Rick Gomez Unveil Their Banner, Macaroni Art Productions
Image
In the ‘90s New York acting scene, Steve Zahn and Rick Gomez were two moons orbiting the same planet. They went out for the same roles and ran in the same crowds. Gomez landed a coveted spot in the World War II miniseries Band of Brothers, while Zahn bowed out due to scheduling issues that prevented him from reuniting with his That Thing You Do director Tom Hanks. Despite these close encounters, they don’t recall ever meeting.

Nearly 20 years later, Zahn and Gomez finally linked up on The Crossing, in which Zahn played a sheriff to Gomez’s deputy. The sci-fi show was short-lived, airing for just one season on ABC in 2018, but it spawned one of the closest relationships in both men’s lives. “We both worked the same way. We were both rewriting the scripts and trying to convince them to make it cooler than it was,...

When Tom Hanks Said No to Charlize Theron Despite Seeing Her Oscar-Winning Potential
Image
Did Tom Hanks reject Charlize Theron? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia/Instagram)

The movie was That Thing You Do!, a musical dramedy about a one-hit-wonder band in the 1960s. Theron wanted the lead. Hanks passed. His reason? “You’re too much of a supernova to play Faye.”

That wasn’t just a creative choice, it was instinct. Tom Hanks saw the firepower in Theron long before the Academy did. She auditioned for Faye, the soft-spoken, supportive girlfriend of the band’s frontman. Hanks liked her, but he saw something else. Something bigger.

“Charlize read on the very first day that I read actors,” Hanks told The Ringer. “She said, ‘Listen, I know I can play Tina, but I want to play Faye.’ I said, ‘I get that,’ but what I was thinking in my head was, ‘You’re too much of a supernova to play Faye.’ Casting her was such a coup.

To celebrate the greatness of this show, I ranked all three seasons of The White Lotus so far. Honestly, there is no "worst" season of this show. They are all good, but there's definitely one show that stands apart from the rest.
