99 Best Movies & TV Shows You Must See On Disney+ UK In July 2025
Image
[Editor's Note: This article is reviewed and updated on a weekly basis.]

It's been five whole years since Disney+ arrived in the UK, changing the streaming game almost overnight and making the daily struggle to choose what to watch next that bit harder. (We know — poor us!) Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet of IP — Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, and Fox — and an ever-growing catalogue of offerings pooled from elsewhere, the House of Mouse has created a veritable content utopia where there truly is something for everyone. How many other platforms do you know where you can observe the mechanics of fascism and the cost of revolution through the lens of Star Wars (Andor), cross the Polynesian horizon with a demigod (Moana 2), see Timmy C rock out as a rebel youth Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown), and see Vikings go toe-to-toe with the Predator (Predator: Killer Of Killers) all without having to switch streamers?

When faced with a platform where you...

Christopher Nolan Movies Ranked: From Worst to Best
Image
It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.

A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.

Alexander Skarsgard Recalls “Crying in the Shower” After Bad Auditions
Image
Alexander Skarsgard is reflecting on his challenging years in Hollywood earlier in his career.

During a recent appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, the actor recalled “crying in the shower” after bad auditions, prior to his 2008 breakout year with his roles in Generation Kill and True Blood.

“I found those experiences — they were horrible — when you go in for something that you know you’re not right for, and you’re not connecting with a character at all, but you’re at a place where you feel like you can’t say no to the audition,” Skarsgard said of his struggles with the audition process, even after he starred in 2001’s Zoolander.

“I was always on the cusp of being fired by my agents,” the Pillion actor added. “If I say no to this [audition], they’re probably gonna drop me, so I gotta go in,...

Andor's Adria Arjona and Stellan Skarsgård didn't like the show's script rules -- so they broke them
Image
Andor will go down in history as one of the most well-received Star Wars shows on Disney+. Viewers couldn't get enough of the series, and its natural conclusion at the end of Season 2 hasn't stopped fans of a galaxy far, far away from talking about it.

The show's actors, too, still have plenty to reveal about the show, their performances, and its behind-the-scenes production. On Jimmy Kimmel Live recently, Diego Luna (Cassian) and Adria Arjona (Bix) got to talking about filming the series. Arjona revealed that even though the actors were supposed to access their scripts via password protection on iPads, she never did.

“I took pictures of it and I printed the whole script," she admitted. “I just need the paper. I need to write things down."

This led to the actor unintentionally tattling on co-star Stellan Skarsgård, who allegedly did the same thing and felt no shame in doing so.

Karlovy Vary to Tribute Stellan Skarsgård, Vicky Krieps, Dakota Johnson, and Peter Sarsgaard
Image
The 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 4-12) boasts not one but two competitions, the Crystal Globe and Proxima, curated by artistic director Karel Och under the supervision of executive director Kryštof Mucha. The festival is the main summer event in the country, which attracts many sponsors and patrons who want to attend, and faces fewer financial hardships than such festivals as Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance.

Last year, 130 films were shown and 140,000 tickets sold. There is little room for growth, given the limited venues, from the many screening rooms at the festival hub, the Hotel Thermal, where jurors hang out between screenings, to the colorful arthouse Kino Drahomira, named after a revered Czech woman director.

The Central European festival falls between Cannes and Venice, and programs many films in its Crystal Globe Competition that did not make the cut at Cannes, as well as films that weren’t yet finished.

Colin Firth & Nicole Kidman's War Movie Finds New Streaming Success 12 Years Later
Image
The Railway Man finds success on a fan-favorite streaming platform over a decade after its release.

Per Flix Patrol, the 2013 World War II drama starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman has taken the number nine spot on the Top Ten chart for films streaming on Paramount+, beating out Here After while still being topped by recent hits like Gladiator II, Top Gun: Maverick, and Smile 2 in the top three spots. The film has also taken positions on the top streaming charts for over a dozen individual countries ranging from Mexico to Bolivia to the Dominican Republic.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and based on Eric Lomax's 1995 autobiography of the same name, The Railway Man starred Firth as Lomax who, during the Second World War, was a British officer sent to a Japanese Pow camp after being captured in Singapore. Here We Go Again? Seyfried, Craymer Push Mamma Mia 3 Forward
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried’s candid complaint that sequels are made “just for money” did not extend to the Abba-fueled franchise that made her a global star; the actor told Interview magazine she would sign on to Mamma Mia 3 “in a heartbeat.” Producer Judy Craymer seized the moment, saying the film is “well into development” with a finished script in hand.

Progress remains unofficial at Universal Pictures, whose immediate slate includes the two-part Wicked musical, a scheduling conflict Seyfried believes must clear before cameras roll. The studio’s caution is understandable: the first two Mamma Mia! movies earned nearly $1 billion worldwide, keeping expectations high for a third instalment. Industry observers quoted by Yahoo Movies nevertheless describe the project as “on track,” though no release date is in sight.

Craymer argues the appeal of returning to sun-drenched Kalokairi lies in giving audiences “another fun experience” just when cinemas need optimism. While plot specifics are under wraps,...

21 Years After Flopping, Keira Knightley's Underrated Fantasy Film Is Heading to a New Streaming Home
Image
Keira Knightley made her debut in the early 2000s, where she had a series of iconic roles. Whether it was her brief but cult classic-worthy appearance in Love Actually, her badass role in Pirates of the Caribbean, or the iconic Elizabeth Bennett in Pride & Prejudice, Knightley owned the 2000s.

Just before she played Elizabeth to perfection in almost everyone's favorite version of the Jane Austen novel, she played another iconic character: Guinevere. Knightley starred in the highly underrated historical fantasy King Arthur in 2004, a film that didn't live up to her usual success. However, 21 years later, King Arthur has a new chance to be discovered by a new generation as it's officially heading to Hulu on July 1, per When to Stream.

King Arthur reimagined the legendary hero as a Roman officer instead of the typical medieval knight. The producers attempted to sell the film as a more historically accurate...

Emily Watson Relished Wielding Her Power in HBO’s ‘Dune: Prophecy’
Image
[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for Season 1 of “Dune: Prophecy.”]

It wasn’t enough for Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to mount three big-budget spectacles directed by Denis Villeneuve based on Frank Herbert’s classic “Dune” series. The studios also teamed up with HBO to produce the TV series “Dune: Prophecy.”

Executive produced by Diane Ademu-John and showrunner Alison Schapker, the show also takes place on a massive scale. The veteran who carries the six-episode series (which starts production on a second season this summer) is Emily Watson, a British character actress who broke out back in 1997 with a Best Actress Oscar nomination for Lars von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves.”

With 28 years of rich work behind her since then, Watson emerges in a powerful role as Valya Harkonnen, the ruthless, driving Mother Superior of the Sisterhood, an early precursor to the mighty Bene Gesserit. She and her black-veiled minions run the universe, wielding their dark arts behind the scenes.

Dune: Messiah Reportedly Casts Nakoa-Wolf Momoa & Ida Brooke As Leto II & Ghanima Atreides - Spoilers
Image
Following the recent news that The Batman star Robert Pattinson is set to play the villainous Skytale in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune: Messiah, we have a very interesting casting scoop from Nexus Point News.

According to the site, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke are set to play the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya), Leto II and Ghanima.

Possible spoilers follow.

These characters are only introduced towards the end of Frank Herbert's second novel, when Chani dies while giving birth. They go on to play much larger roles in subsequent books, with Leto II eventually transforming into the human/sandworm hybrid (it's complicated) God Emperor of Arrakis.

How much of this will be covered in the Messiah adaptation remains to be seen, but given the ages of the actors playing the twins, it seems clear that Villeneuve plans to incorporate at least some elements of Children of Dune.

Amanda Seyfried Says She'd Do 'Mamma Mia 3' in a "Heartbeat"
Image
Amanda Seyfried recently called out Hollywood's increasing reliance on sequels...even as she admitted her willingness to return for another installment in her most popular franchise. During a conversation with Rachel Brosnahan for Interview Magazine, the two actresses discussed this summer's most anticipated releases, and the conversation ventured into the two speaking of sequels they'd be interested in appearing in. When Brosnahan asked Seyfried, "What's our Barbenheimer between 'Fantastic Four,' 'Jurassic Park,' and 'Superman'?"

Seyfried responded with a few suggestions before reflecting on the "fatigue" currently felt in the industry (and audiences) with constant sequels...before quickly declaring that she would return for a third installment in the Mamma Mia! franchise.

"It's Fantastic Super-park. It's Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don't know!" She added: "I will say, there's a little bit of fatigue with sequels. I want original content. I think...

Amanda Seyfried Says There’s “Fatigue With Sequels” That Are “Just For Money,” Though She’d Do ‘Mamma Mia! 3’ “In A Heartbeat”
Image
Amanda Seyfried, like many moviegoers and industry peers, is a bit tired of the sequel-churning going on in Hollywood.

During a new Q&a between herself and Rachel Brosnahan for Interview magazine, the latter — who will portray Lois Lane to David Corenswet’s Superman in James Gunn’s forthcoming take on the alien superhero — theorized what the blockbuster crossover equivalent to “Barbenheimer” would be, as Summer 2025 will also feature Jurassic World Rebirth and Fantastic Four, both prominent IP.

“It’s Fantastic Super-park. It’s Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don’t know!” the Mean Girls star responded.

“I will say, there’s a little bit of fatigue with sequels,” she continued. “I want original content. I think it’s really scary and brave to do it. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating.”

‘Andor’ Casting Team on Populating Ghorman and Finding Young Kleya
Image
Nina Gold and Martin Ware are no strangers to the “Star Wars” universe, having previously worked on films like “The Rise of Skywalker” and the series “The Acolyte.” And the pair clearly know their U.K. talent — last year they shared the Emmy Award for casting the limited series “Baby Reindeer,” which made sensations out of actors like Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.

They were brought on to cast the Disney Plus series “Andor,” a prequel of the film “Rogue One,” in its first season — which Gold admits was a challenging experience as the pandemic hit right in the midst of casting. But the second season, which just wrapped an acclaimed run, was “a bit more normal.” It helped that the first season was so well-received and that creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy’s writing was impeccable. “The scripts are so brilliant, actors just love doing it,” reveals Ware. “You...

'I Think It's Way, Way Better': Andy Serkis Explains Fan-Favorite Character's Absence in Andor Season 2
Image
Hollywood icon Andy Serkis breaks down why his Season 1 character Kino Loy didn't return for the second season of Star Wars: Andor.

Speaking to Collider, "I ultimately think it's best for the character. It was such a great arc, and it had a very, very definite and heroic conclusion," Serkis explained. "I think, in many ways, to go back would be difficult because it has left a mark. I was so surprised at how emotionally effective that character was, actually, and so I think it's way, way better that we leave him in Narkina 5, on his own."

Serkis made his debut as Kino Loy in the first season of Andor. A prisoner within the dreaded Narkina 5 facility, Kino oversaw his fellow prisoners during the day as floor manager. Over the course of the series' first season, Kino joined Diego Luna's Cassian Andor in leading a prison riot that overwhelmed...

Coming off the science fiction blockbuster hit "Dune: Part Two" from last year, patriarch Stellan Skarsgård has once again helped elevate genre content with a stunning dramatic turn in the "Star Wars" prequel series "Andor" on Disney+. Meanwhile, Bill Skarsgård has returned to the world of Stephen King and Pennywise the Clown, reprising the role that made him a household name in the HBO series "It: Welcome to Derry." But perhaps most significant of all is the latest endeavor of Alexander Skarsgård, an arguably underrated member of the acting dynasty currently leading "Murderbot," one of the buzziest shows of Apple TV+ triumphant 2025 run.

It's possible Alexander doesn't get as much attention because his most high-profile swing at a blockbuster turned out to be a major box office bomb. There...

The surprising scene that the ‘Andor’ cinematographer loved the most
Image
Andor Season 2 switched directors every three episodes, but the same wasn’t true of its cinematographers. Christophe Nuyens photographed the first six episodes of the 12-part season, including both the action-packed opening arc and the subsequent introduction of the planet Ghorman.

On Andor, director of photography is not a simple job. Nuyens had to do a lot over the course of his six episodes, from filming action scenes (like Diego Luna’s titular protagonist saving his friends from stormtroopers in a stolen Tie fighter) to figuring out the visual aesthetics for new planets like Ghorman.

“The nice thing is that Episodes 1, 2, and 3 were more like a classic Star Wars arc,” Nuyens tells Gold Derby, “while Episodes 4, 5, and 6 show the more human side of the story. On Ghorman, it feels more like a spy movie. It was really nice to work on both of those. We really tried to give each...

Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’ Gets November Release Date as Neon Plans Robust Awards Campaign (Exclusive)
Image
Neon will open Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” in limited release on Nov. 7, as it looks to position the drama for Oscar contention. The indie studio will then expand the film leading into the Thanksgiving period, which is traditionally a busy time for moviegoing.

Neon is planning to build a robust awards campaign around “Sentimental Value,” which premiered at Cannes to rave reviews. Variety‘s Peter Debruge praised the film as a “mature and moving tale,” while IndieWire‘s David Ehrlich called it “a layered masterpiece that ‘The Worst Person in the World’ director Joachim Trier has been working toward for his entire career.” At Cannes, “Sentimental Value” won the Grand Prix.

“Sentimental Value” is about a stage actress and her sister who reunite with their estranged father, a famous film director. After his daughter opts not to appear in her father’s movie, the role goes to a Hollywood actress.

Tony Gilroy says Andor's opening scene was an open challenge to Disney
Image
From the very first scene, Andor sets itself apart from other Star Wars productions in tone and subtext. It feels darker, grittier, and with higher stakes than ever before. Despite knowing the fate of the main protagonist and a few others, the series makes us care deeply about Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and his allies, as well as enemies.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy manages to evoke almost as many powerful emotions with the scene of Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) in an Imperial prison as with Luthen Rael's (Stellan Skarsgard) lonely, unconscious death. Many scenes that he wrote proved to be highly divisive, including the much-talked-about on-screen sexual assault attempt by an Imperial officer on Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona).

But when it came to keeping the show rooted in the reality of complex socio-cultural and political themes, Gilroy had never really pulled his punches. The first scene of the first season takes place in a brothel,...

15 Best Javier Bardem Performances, Ranked
Image
Javier Bardem emerged in Spain in the 1990s as a different kind of movie star. Scion of a notable acting family, his privilege and experience manifested in supremely confident leading roles in crossover hit “Jamon, Jamon” (1992) and Almodóvar’s “Live Flesh” (1997).

With his appealing features and compelling screen presence, there was little doubt Hollywood came calling, and indeed, in the new millennium, he has joined Antonio Banderas and his equally talented wife, Penélope Cruz, as the industry’s most prominent Latin imports. He was daring in “Before Night Falls” (2000), for which he received his first Oscar nomination and appeared in films by Michael Mann and Miloš Forman. He would eventually rise to superstardom as the embodiment of calculating evil in “No Country for Old Men” (2007); he won the Oscar this time for one of the most chilling depictions of villainy in recent memory.

Ever since, Bardem has acted with the...

'Mamma Mia 3' May Undo This Perfect Resolution From the First Movie
Image
The movie musical, Mamma Mia! was released in 2008, and it's fair to say it was a smashing success. Ten years later, a sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, was released and that also impressed. Ever since, there has been a willingness and desire for a third movie. Both the 2008 movie and the 2018 sequel featured familiar faces and both never quite resolved a longstanding question. Who is Sophie's biological father? The 2008 movie introduced us to Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and the three men from her mother's past who may be her biological father: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Harry (Colin Firth), and Bill (Stellan Skarsgård). It ended without a resolution on who the father might be, as the trio decided to share the fatherly role. The 2018 sequel maintains the mystery but could the third film finally solve it?

Speaking in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan, who plays one of Sophie's possible fathers,...

Pierce Brosnan Hints That Mamma Mia 3 May Reveal Sophie's Biological Father
Image
Pierce Brosnan hints that Mamma Mia 3 may reveal Sophie's biological father. Released in 2008, the original musical introduced Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and the three men who may be her biological father: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Harry (Colin Firth), and Bill (Stellan Skarsgård). By the end, rather than finding out who her real father is, they all agree to share the role equally. Though the 2018 sequel, subtitled Here We Go Again, maintains the mystery from the first film, the upcoming Mamma Mia 3 may finally reveal the answer to the longstanding question.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter for his new Paramount+ series MobLand, Pierce Brosnan hinted that Mamma Mia 3 may reveal Sophie's biological father. The actor, who plays one of Sophie's possible fathers in Sam Carmichael, says that he knows who her real father is, and that the third movie may finally reveal the answer to audiences. Thunderbolts* North America Box Office Day 31: Beats Thor (Photo Credit –YouTube)

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* has slowed down further due to the new releases. The MCU flick has also left the domestic top 5 charts this weekend. However, Florence Pugh’s movie has finally surpassed the domestic haul of Chris Hemsworth starrer Thor and has its eyes set on another MCU movie. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The New Avengers is benefitting from the positive word of mouth but still lacks the power of the previous Marvel movies. Hence, it is even struggling to earn $400 million at the worldwide box office and might even end its theatrical run even before that. It is the second film of Pugh in the MCU, and she has been widely praised for her performance. Some even called her the heart of this Marvel flick.

6 Andor season 1 moments that hit differently after season 2
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Andor Season 2.

Now that all episodes of Andor Season 2 have been released, it felt like the perfect time to rewatch Season 1. While I have rewatched Season 1 before, this was my first time since having the context of knowing everything that happens in Season 2. Having this context made me see much of the show and many of the character interactions through a different lens.

Given everything that happens in Season 2, every episode now has scenes that hit differently. This is not an exclusive list by any means, but these are 6 of the moments that had a particularly strong impact on me the second time around.

Why Andor Star Elizabeth Dulau Doesn't See Luthen And Kleya As Father And Daughter
Image
When we first meet rebel leader Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) in "Star Wars: Andor," he's helping Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) escape the Ferrix police and recruiting him for a heist job. Then we see Luthen lives a double life, working as a luxury antiques dealer on Coruscant, the capital of the Empire he's fighting. Kleya Marki (Elizabeth Dulau) is Luthen's assistant in both halves of his life.

So from the beginning, Luthen has had an air of mystery; we see early on that he wears one mask so are there others? In "Andor" season 1 episode 8, "Narkina 5," Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), a radical anti-Imperialist, asks Luthen what his ideology is. Luthen answers he's a "coward" who's afraid of letting the Empire grow unbeatable. Ok, but that's not really answering the question. What made him so afraid in the first place?

For that matter, how did Luthen and Kleya forge such an unbreakable trust,...

Dune's 10 Biggest Changes From The Books
Image
It's hard to believe over a year has passed since "Dune: Part Two" blasted its way into theaters like a sandworm burrowing through the Arrakis desert. Critically adored and embraced by fans, the adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert's acclaimed novel does a commendable job of translating a complex storyline for general audiences. The result is a "bleak blockbuster about religion, revenge, and really big worms," per our own "Dune: Part Two" review, sprinkled with thrilling set pieces, thought-provoking material, an excellent score by Hans Zimmer, and astonishing performances from the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgård. How the heck did this thing not win Best Picture at the Academy Awards?

Praises aside, to streamline the sprawling narrative, Villeneuve was forced to make a few changes. We've compiled a list of the biggest changes from the books for your reading pleasure,...

Why Bix Left Cassian In Andor Season 2, According To Adria Arjona
Image
"Andor" is officially over, and the future of "Star Wars" is disconcerting. Still, we'll always have that wonderful month when the internet was filled with not just theories but also a profound appreciation for the boldness of Tony Gilroy and his team's efforts in "Andor" (that and a plethora of memes that lightened the mood every week after yet another heartbreaking set of episodes).

Indeed, "Andor" season 2 was both a masterpiece and arguably the greatest "Star Wars" project ever, as well as one of the best TV shows of the 2020s, period. It was also a season of tragedy in which we watched as the Rebel Alliance was formed and swiftly erased its founding father from history. And though we witnessed the death of many a fan-favorite character to boot, one of season 2's most heart-breaking moments didn't actually involve anyone dying. Rather, it was when Bix (Adria Arjona) broke...

How Andor Season 2's Incredible Saw Gerrera Speech Came Together [Exclusive]
Image
In "Andor" season 2, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker's Partisan leader Saw Gerrera is a charismatic and dangerous figure. His dramatic speech in episode 5 -- titled "I Have Friends Everywhere" --  combines these key aspects of his character by taking the show in a direction "Star Wars" has rarely dared to tread. Here, Saw uses his own experiences with the explosive starship fuel rhydonium (which is as addictive as it's volatile) to convince Wilmon Paak (Muhannad Bhaier) to embrace the substance's toxic fumes in a twisted initiation ritual.

Saw's speech starts with a story of his childhood on Onderon, where he and others were forced to mine for rhydo and a dangerous exposure left him with an unexpected taste for the stuff. He goes on to compare rhydo to a loving sibling, admits that he's aware that his fondness of the substance is not entirely sane, and wraps things up by...

If You’re Missing ‘Andor’, This 91% Rated Movie on Paramount+ Is Next That Inspired Luthen and Kleya
Image
Andor concluded its critically acclaimed run with its second season, which established the series as one of the best Star Wars projects. Showrunner Tony Gilroy masterfully capped off the titular hero and the Rebellion’s story in the final batch of episodes, which also shined a light on Luthen’s backstory and relationship with Kleya.

During an interview, actress Elizabeth Dulau revealed that Luthen and Kleya’s relationship was loosely inspired by a classic 1973 movie. For fans of the show, who enjoyed the Luthen-Kleya storyline and are missing the magic of Andor, the 91% rated movie is a must-watch, and you can catch it right now on Paramount+.

Elizabeth Dulau revealed how Paper Moon inspired Luthen and Kleya in Andor

Actress Elizabeth Dulau played the role of Kleya Marki in Andor, featuring as the assistant to Stellan Skarsgard‘s Luthen Rael. The character emerged as the Mvp of season 2 thanks to...

Stellan Skarsgård Had One Request For Luthen Rael's Andor Backstory [Exclusive]
Image
The book has officially closed on the two-season saga of "Andor," but we're not even close to prepared to move on just yet. The second season will likely go down as one of the boldest experiments in all of "Star Wars," and a large part of that is due to the original characters that creator Tony Gilroy introduced to the franchise. In a franchise more obsessed than ever with nostalgia and legacy characters, I'm not sure anyone could've expected coming out of "Andor" with a healthy appreciation for people like Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), or Syril Karn (Kyle Soller).

Out of them all, however, perhaps none stole the show to a greater degree than Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael. The mysterious and utterly ruthless operative brought a whole new flavor of rebellion to our favorite galaxy far, far away. Not only did he play an outsized...

The Classic Movie That Inspired Andor's Luthen And Kleya Backstory
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Andor" to follow.

Now that "Andor" is over, Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) is likely to go down as one of the show's best creations. The Rebellion Alliance may not want to remember Luthen's legacy in helping to build it, but it's a legacy "Star Wars" fans won't forget. "Star Wars" has been political from the beginning, but "Andor" threads the needle like never before. A lot of that is Luthen's presence; he's a Rebel who feels like an actual revolutionary.

There's no Death Star yet in "Andor," but the Rebels have challenges aplenty — real challenges, like factionalist infighting and compromises for greater goods. Luthen saying in "One Way Out" that "I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I'll never see" is one of the most succinct and beautiful sentiments explaining political resistance I've heard — knowing...

How Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Nearly Got Cut From The MCU In Early Marvel Scripts

How Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Almost Got Written Out Of The MCU In Early Scripts ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Back when Marvel was still playing it relatively safe with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, the idea of launching Thor almost didn’t make the cut. The studio wrestled with how to make a literal god work in a universe that was, at the time, trying to stay grounded. There were early drafts floating around where Thor was barely even part of the long-term plan. Yep, the God of Thunder was nearly benched before the game even began.

Before The Thunder: How Thor Survived Hollywood’s Director Shuffle

Long before Chris Hemsworth swung the hammer, the project bounced between hands. Sam Raimi once had eyes on it after Darkman, but the studio shrugged. Years later, Matthew Vaughn was in, then out, after trying to trim the budget. Guillermo del Toro was this close,...
