The 15 Best TV Shows On Showtime Right Now
Image
Paramount has been in the news a fair bit recently, for good reasons and, mostly, bad (for nerds who like boring stuff like free speech and political independence or whatever). But uh ... they did put a lot of Showtime content on Paramount+. That kinda makes up for it all, right?

The concerning and confounding decisions of the network's parent company aside, Showtime has long been the under-sung hero of prestige TV and the golden age of television at large. Would there be any shows with psychopathic, murderous protagonists without the success of "Dexter?" Would the political thriller subgenre be complete without "Homeland?" And is there a family drama so perfectly and relatably balanced between humor and heartbreak as "Shameless?" Unfortunately, you can't watch everything Showtime has produced on Paramount+ as of writing -- that said, of the shows available, these are the 15 most deserving of a rewatch.

'The Naked Gun' Director Talks Limiting Reboot to One 'Respectful' O.J. Simpson
Image
The Naked Gun makes references to all the stars that appeared in the original movie – including one that became controversial after the movie’s release.

According to director Akiva Schaffer, the remake kept the jokes about O.J. Simpson to just one quick reference to keep things “respectful.”

Akiva spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how he handled references to the actor that played Detective Nordberg in the original three movies in the franchise.

Keep reading to find out more…

“When I first told friends, ‘Hey, I’m actually about to write a Naked Gun,’ they’d go, ‘What are you going to do about O.J?’ So, right away, I was like, ‘Oh, right. That’s the elephant in the room that has to be addressed,’” Akiva told The Hollywood Reporter.

Akiva wrote one O.J. joke into the movie and says he “never” wrote another one afterward.

In the movie,...

Box Office: ‘Bad Guys 2,’ ‘Naked Gun’ Scoring Solid Openings as ‘Fantastic Four’ Stays No. 1 Overall
Image
What better way to go out than to go out laughing.

Paramount’s acclaimed The Naked Gun revival — starring Liam Neeson opposite Pamela Anderson — started off its North American run with a Friday gross of $6.3 million for an estimated opening of $16.5 million.

That’s good enough for a third-place finish behind Marvel holdover The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which remains perched in first-place with an estimated $40 million second weekend, and Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s new family pic The Bad Guys 2, which grossed $9.2 million on Friday for an estimated $22.8 million launch. (Superman won the day with nearly $12 million.) Both new entries are opening on the higher end of expectations.

As fate would have it, Naked Gun is the last film that the current iteration of Paramount Pictures will release before David Ellison’s Skydance officially closes its $8 billion merger with Paramount Global on Aug. 7. Affable movie studio chief Brian Robbins...

The Naked Gun Gives The Only Surviving Main Franchise Cast Member A Quick Cameo
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun."

Theatrically released studio comedies (and especially spoof movies) have become somewhat of a dying art in the 2020s, with most of them either being relegated to die on a streaming service, being released by independent distributors, or flopping at the box office. It's a bummer because anyone who's seen a great comedy in a movie theater knows the power of laughing with an audience. It's the only kind of communal experience in which people making sounds is a good sign. You have to wonder if there's any movie that could get the genre out of its slump. As of this week, there is! I can't tell you how good it feels to have a new "Naked Gun" movie where everyone can laugh at the universal truths of a snowman threesome, a shotgun being pulled out of Pamela Anderon's hair, and the best...

It's 2025 And I Just Watched 1988's The Naked Gun For The First Time – These Are My Honest Thoughts
Image
In the history of side-splitting spoofs, "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" has always been something of a blind spot for me. Somehow, I'd snorted and wheezed through the likes of "Airplane!," "Blazing Saddles," and "Young Frankenstein," only to fly right into the face of the "Top Gun" and "Rambo" rip-offs that were the "Hot Shots" movies. In discovering Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen), I'd totally overlooked the idiotic antics of Leslie Nielsen's law enforcer, Frank Drebin. It's only right then, that with the impending arrival of one-time Jedi and henchman eradicating hero, Liam Neeson, taking the lead in the new legacyquel of "The Naked Gun," that I go back to where the giggles began. The problem with that is that most of the movie's biggest laughs are its most well-known.

Do a Gif search for "Nothing to see here," "Beaver," and "O.J. Simpson" (don't judge my...

The Naked Gun Features A Perfect Cameo That's Just For The Fans
Image
This post contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun" (2025).

Other than starring in the beloved sitcom "Cheers" as fact-spouting mailman Cliff Clavin, actor John Ratzenberger is probably best known for making repeated voice cameos in the many films of Pixar Animation. Ratzenberger has appeared in almost all of Pixar's movies in some kind of minor voice role, though his presence in them has waned recently, with "Luca," "Turning Red," "Lightyear," "Elemental," and "Elio" missing his presence as a sort of good luck charm. Thankfully, we have another cameo tradition that has just picked up steam again, thanks to the release of the "Naked Gun" reboot.

For those who may not recall, in addition to delivering endless slapstick bits, meta laughs, and silly puns, there's one prominent constant that has popped up in every previous installment of the "Naked Gun" film franchise, and he goes by the name "Weird Al" Yankovic.

The New ‘Naked Gun’ Features ‘Weird Al’s Best Cameo Yet
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Naked Gun (2025).

While the new Naked Gun movie isn’t perfect, it’s still a very funny spoof that even manages to utilize one franchise regular in a uniquely hilarious way. Two if you count that photo of O.J. Simpson.

As we’ve mentioned before, it was widely expected that “Weird Al” Yankovic would make an appearance in 2025’s The Naked Gun, seeing as how he’s friends with director Akiva Schaffer, and has cameoed in every previous installment of the franchise.

Al’s role in the movie was confirmed when the “Eat It” singer showed up at the movie’s premiere and walked the red carpet in a manner that justified his nickname.

Fans seemed thrilled to learn that The Naked Gun is continuing Al’s streak, but the question remained: Would it live up to the previous cameos?

In the original movie,...

O.J. Simpson in Y a-t-il un flic pour sauver la reine ? (1988)
The Naked Gun director explains why they only included one O.J. Simpson joke
O.J. Simpson in Y a-t-il un flic pour sauver la reine ? (1988)
O.J. Simpson portrayed Nordberg in the first three Naked Gun films, but just months after the release of Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult… well, history took a turn. Now, with a new Naked Gun sequel on the way, audiences are curious to see how—or if—the film will acknowledge all that came after.

The first teaser trailer for The Naked Gun did feature one Nordberg mention, in which Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson), Ed Hocken Jr. (Paul Walter Hauser), and many more cops pay tearful tributes to their late parents, but when the camera moves to a picture of Simpson’s Nordberg, his son (Moses Jones) merely looks at the camera and shakes his head. According to director Akiva Schaffer, that’s the only O.J. Simpson gag in the movie.

‘The Naked Gun’ Filmmaker Akiva Schaffer Explains Why He Limited the Reboot to One O.J. Joke
Image
Writer-director Akiva Schaffer initially thought a reboot of The Naked Gun was blasphemous until he realized the full potential of having Liam Neeson step into the shoes of Leslie Nielsen.

In 2021, producer Seth MacFarlane was tasked with reinventing Zaz’s (Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker) beloved spoof comedy franchise after three decades and a few failed revivals along the way. The Family Guy creator’s first order of business was to attach Neeson, whom he’d worked with on A Million Ways to Die in the West and Ted 2.

From there, MacFarlane’s president at Fuzzy Door Productions, Erica Huggins, handled the director search, which quickly led her to Schaffer, due to the warm reception he’d just received for Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022). Of course, she was also a fan of his 2016 cult hit, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, as well as his longtime comedy trio, The Lonely Island,...

‘The Naked Gun (2025)’ Review
Image
Stars: Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, Danny Huston | Written by Akiva Schaffer, Dan Gregor, Doug Mand | Directed by Akiva Schaffer

Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson co-star in this reboot of The Naked Gun, the spoof comedy series – based on the short-lived TV show Police Squad – that previously starred Leslie Nielsen and spanned three movies, between 1988 and 1994. Directed by Akiva Schaffer (part of the Lonely Island trio), the new film is unashamedly stupid, but it delivers a steady stream of funny gags and perfectly captures the spirit of the original films. Which is pretty much the best anyone could have hoped for.

Neeson stars as Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin Jnr, the son of Nielsen’s character, which technically makes this a sequel as well as a reboot. In fact, his entire Police Squad team are the sons and daughters...

The Best Joke In The Naked Gun Is A Deranged Take On A Holiday (And Horror) Classic
Image
This article contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun."

I've watched the original "Naked Gun" trilogy more times than I can count. Leslie Nielsen as the bumbling police detective Frank Drebin is by far the actor's greatest comedic role, and one whose deadpan delivery rarely fails to make me laugh. Nielsen's absence, as well as zero input from David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker (otherwise known as Zaz), always gave me pause whenever hearing word of a reboot on the horizon. As of this week, however, it brings me so much joy to know I can add Akiva Schaffer's exuberantly silly legacy sequel to the roster. /Film's Ethan Anderton gave "The Naked Gun" a glowing review as the funniest movie of the year, and I couldn't agree more.

Lonely Island alum Schaffer, along with producer Seth MacFarlane and co-writers Dan Gregor & Doug Mand, honor the spirit of Zaz's zany sense of humor,...

The Original ‘Naked Gun’ Is the Number One Movie Streaming Right Now, Beating Out ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
Image
For a few days after its release, Happy Gilmore 2 was the most streamed content across all platforms. But according to JustWatch data, the Adam Sandler sequel was knocked off of its throne by a very old movie — the original The Naked Gun, released in 1988.

This is obviously not totally out of the blue. The reboot of the film is slated to be released on August 1st, and early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, in a rare moment for a comedy movie, the 2025 version received an initial 100 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

The Naked Gun (2025) stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and beyond the strong reviews, the film has garnered the interest of the public because the two stars are reportedly also in a relationship. It’s the perfect promotion cycle for a movie: You can form a little parasocial relationship, and most critics are saying you...

'The Naked Gun' Reboot's O.J. Simpson Joke Explained by Writers
Image
The Naked Gun seems to be doing right by Leslie Nielsen with its new reboot/sequel. The Liam Neeson-led reboot has already been wowing critics and will make its debut in cinemas on August 1. However, there were plenty of pitfalls that the new movie could have fallen into on its way to what seems to be a successful future, not least how the movie would address the controversial O.J. Simpson, who starred in the original trilogy.

From the outset, the first trailer for The Naked Gun shared its feelings for the former sportsman and actor, who fell from grace after being accused of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend in one of the highest-profile murder trials ever. In a scene where the new generation of Police Squad members pay tribute to their parents, the son of Simpson’s character, Nordberg, simply breaks the fourth wall and shakes his head.

Oj Simpson’s Naked Gun Character Death Explained By Writers: “We Knew That It Was Something We Had To Deal With”
Image
The upcoming The Naked Gunremake won't ignore O.J. Simpson's legacy, with its writers revealing how they approached the character of Nordberg. In the original trilogy, Simpson played the bumbling detective whose physical comedy became a staple of the films. But, in the decades since, Simpson's highly publicized trial and controversial reputation posed a major question about what should be done with his character in the reboot.

Starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, the upcomingreboot aims to balance classic slapstick with modern satire, and that includes addressing Nordberg's character with both care and nerve. The writers revealed that while they didn’t want to dwell on Simpson’s real-life controversies, they knew audiences would expect some acknowledgment.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand admitted the joke was intentionally held back before his passing in 2024, but now serves as a sharp, albeit brief, commentary.

The Naked Gun review – Liam Neeson deadpans impeccably in outrageously amusing spoof reboot
Leslie Nielsen
Neeson plays the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt Frank Drebin, appearing opposite Pamela Anderson in this enjoyable, at times very bizarre, spoof of 80s LA action movies

Here is Liam Neeson doing a rumbly-menacing voice even sillier than the one he did in Taken – and he now presumably must decide whether, like Leslie Nielsen before him, he will pivot to spoof comedy full-time. To be fair, Neeson has more career capital to lose than Nielsen did. He deadpans it impeccably, but perhaps doesn’t quite have Nielsen’s eerie innocence. In any case, it doesn’t stop this reboot of the Naked Gun franchise from being a lot of fun: amiably ridiculous, refreshingly shallow, entirely pointless and guilelessly crass. It is a life-support system for some outrageous gags, including sensational riffs on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sex and the City, and one showstopping are-they-really-gonna-do-it reference to Oj Simpson,...

‘The Naked Gun’ Review: An Uproarious, Old-School Spoof of More Than Just Cop Dramas
Image
Akiva Schaffer’s The Naked Gun might be the riskiest attempt at a legacy sequel in recent memory. It attempts to resurrect not just a dormant franchise, but the cinematic spoof genre as a whole after it was beaten to death by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer in the mid-aughts. Schaffer has been almost single-handedly keeping the genre on life support since his 2007 feature directorial debut, Hot Rod. And while The Naked Gun isn’t an unmitigated success like Schaffer’s Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers, it’s also a much purer, freewheeling spoof, with a lower barrier of entry that serves it well.

This isn’t a film that plays much inside baseball. One notable exception is a gag centered around the loss of nearly every major cast member from the original films, and Schaffer and co-screenwriters Doug Mand and Dan Gregor...

‘The Naked Gun’ Review: Akiva Schaffer’s Hilarious Police Spoof Is the Funniest American Movie in Years
Image
Writing about spoofs is sort of like dancing about architecture: Film critics almost never get paid to do it. Indeed, Akiva Schaffer’s “The Naked Gun” might be the first theatrically distributed movie of its kind since the likes of “They Came Together” (2014), “Fifty Shades of Black” (2016), and “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018), all of which already felt like relics from a time when audiences were accustomed to such gleefully absurd gag-a-thons — a time when men were men, women were women, and O.J. Simpson was a Scandinavian detective named Nordberg.

We used to live in a country where comedy was an entire genre unto itself, as opposed to a brief distraction that a squinty-eyed Chris Pratt tried in vain to search for between action scenes. But good news! Just like open political bribery and a monopolistic control over the entertainment industry, Paramount is taking a bold step towards making theatrical comedies viable again.

‘The Naked Gun’ Review: Liam Neeson Nails the Deadpan Goofiness, but Pamela Anderson Is the Scene-Stealer in Uneven Legacy Sequel
Image
The three-man comedy factory that ruled the 1980s with their fusillades of slapstick, sight gags, loopy non sequiturs and winking innuendo was David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker — Hollywood’s Zaz before David Zaslav. Their legacy rivals that of Mel Brooks in the ’60s and ’70s, most notably via Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, though I also have a soft spot for their swerve into more conventional farce with the acerbic dark comedy Ruthless People. Even the misstep of Top Secret! yielded its share of laughs, despite attempting to hit an unwieldy jumble of parody targets.

Having honed their skills in a college sketch-comedy troupe, the trio’s strategy was to throw as many jokes per minute at the screen as possible, the sillier the better, ensuring that enough of them stuck to cushion the ones that missed the mark.

Their 1982 ABC series spoofing crime procedurals, Police Squad!,...

Jay Leno Says Today’s Late-Night Hosts ‘Alienate’ Half the Audience With Political Jokes ‘Cozying Up to One Side’: ‘I Don’t Think Anybody Wants to Hear a Lecture’
Image
Jay Leno believes late-night TV comedians have become too politicized — and that they risk losing half the viewing audience by “cozying up to one side or the other.”

“To me, I like to think that people come to a comedy show to kind of get away from things, you know, the pressures of life, whatever it might be,” Leno said in a recent interview with David Trulio, president and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. “Now you have to be content with half the audience because you have to give your opinion.”

Leno didn’t name names. But the current roster of late-night hosts — Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Seth Meyers and more — has routinely mocked President Trump and the Maga movement. To be fair, they have also opportunistically lampooned Democrats.

Leno’s impression is that late-night TV these days skews toward specific political viewpoints.

14 Embarrassingly Expensive Celebrity Parties

14 The Most Expensive Birthday Party of All Time

Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan and Prime Minister of Brunei, threw himself a two-week 50th birthday party for $27 million in 1996. Is ‘The Naked Gun’ Borrowing Its Marketing Strategy From Sydney Sweeney?
Image
We’re less than two weeks away from the release of the new Naked Gun reboot starring Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson and the ghost of O.J. Simpson, who we assume was haunting the set at all times.

Naturally, there’s a big promotional push for the movie, including the announcement of a new novelty popcorn bucket shaped like a 37-year-old dirty joke.

But is it also possible that Neeson and company have launched a stealth marketing strategy inspired by Sydney Sweeney?

Before we’d even seen a frame of the new Naked Gun movie, back in October 2024, Liam Neeson told People Magazine that he’d fallen “madly in love” with Anderson. The Baywatch star returned the compliment, calling Neeson the “perfect gentleman.”

More recently, the co-stars have been really leaning into their behind-the-scenes bond, including for a promo in which the pair are asked by a reporter about how they built their on-screen chemistry.

Shane Gillis Pays Tribute to Norm Macdonald in His Most Underappreciated ESPYs Joke
Image
The audience at last night’s Espy Awards was lukewarm at best toward their host Shane Gillis, just like Norm Macdonald would have wanted.

Much like Gillis’ hosting gigs at Saturday Night Live, where he famously set the record for quickest turnaround from hired-to-fired, Gillis’ performance at the awards ceremony dedicated to giving America’s most beloved, compensated and awarded athletes even more attention was underscored by his visible nerves and the sporting world’s muted responses to his opening monologue. Despite how the wealthiest and most worshipped celebrities in our country often refused to laugh at themselves, Gillis’ material, unlike his stage presence, was actually rock-solid more often than not, and he capped off the up-and-down monologue with a tribute to the greatest ESPYs host ever and a jab at said legend’s favorite punching bag.

In honor of Macdonald, Gillis closed his set with an O.J. Simpson joke that temporarily turned the ultra-rich,...

Diddy’s Earning Every Year: What Is Sean Combs’ Net Worth After the Trial?
Image
Diddy has been listed as one of the highest-paid celebrities by Forbes and was once considered among the richest rappers in the world. After all, the industry mogul had built himself a literal empire over the years he spent in the entertainment industry.

In 2016, Forbes released a report stating that Diddy had made $435 million over the last decade, before spending and taxes. The publication listed the exact amount the rapper reportedly made from 2007-2016, and let’s just say there was a reason why Diddy established himself as one of the richest names in the industry.

Take a look at his reported earnings:

2007: $28 million 2008: $35 million 2009: $30 million 2010: $30 million 2011: $35 million 2012: $45 million 2013: $50 million 2014: $60 million 2015: $60 million 2016: $62 million

In 2017, Forbes released another report estimating that Diddy had made a whopping $130 million through music, spirits, and endorsements. He once told the publication, “I’ve always understood...

If Netflix Touches the Diddy Trial, It Might Be Taking a Swing at FX’s O.J. Simpson Legacy
Image
Streaming services like Netflix have a history of jumping on any opportunity to make a documentary. Specifically, when it comes to celebrities, if there is a trending topic on social media, the streaming giants will try to capitalize on it. This has backfired in the past, and viewers frequently disagree with the picture they paint. Unfortunately, the platforms haven’t learned their lesson and continue to do so. Keeping this in mind, why wouldn’t they try to make a documentary on the trial of the biggest name in the music industry?

The verdict of Sean “P. Diddy” Combs has been a subject of great controversy, and this is the exact arena that streaming services thrive on. However, they need to learn their lesson from their O.J. Simpson documentary and leave Diddy alone.

What to Expect From P Diddy’s Sentencing in October: Experts Give Their Verdicts
Image
P Diddy is facing a pivotal sentencing this October after a Manhattan jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in pr*stitution, while acquitting him of the more serious s*x trafficking and racketeering charges. That being said, questions swirl around the impact this verdict will have on Diddy’s vast fortune and public image.

“He is likely going to get little to no time,” says former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani, pointing out that (per People):

This was a huge overwhelming win by the defense and a tremendous loss for the prosecution.

Despite the partial acquittal, Diddy remains behind bars pending a pre-sentence report, with his lawyers expected to request bond soon. Lead counsel Marc Agnifilo vowed (via The Guardian):

The one thing I’m going to leave you with this we are not nearly done fighting. We are just getting started.

Why the Director of the New ‘Naked Gun’ Felt Compelled to Include O.J. Jokes
Image
The Naked Gun is hardly the first beloved ‘80s comedy to get the Hollywood reboot treatment, there was also Vacation, Coming 2 America and several new additions to the Ghostbusters franchise. And while those movies likely had their fair share of challenges to deal with, it’s not like Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy or Dan Aykroyd ever went on trial for first-degree murder.

The original Naked Gun trilogy, on the other hand, famously featured football star, accused murderer and one-time prank show host O.J. Simpson as Frank Drebin’s best friend and partner, Officer Nordberg.

In retrospect, it’s pretty weird that Simpson, who was ultimately acquitted of all murder charges, has a prominent role in one of the funniest movies of all-time. But rather than avoiding the issue, the new Naked Gun movie immediately let us know that O.J. jokes were on the table.

The reboot’s first teaser...

What Are the Chances That ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Will Show Up in the New ‘Naked Gun’?
Image
Judging from the trailers, the upcoming Naked Gun reboot is seemingly going to be chock-full of references to the original movie trilogy, up to and including a brief, photographic cameo from late accused murderer/prank show auteur O.J. Simpson.

But will the new movie include an appearance from the one living celebrity who’s been in every other installment of the Naked Gun series and wasn’t married to Elvis?

As you may remember, early in 1988’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, Frank returns from his jurisdictionally-questionable trip to Beirut and discovers a crowd of reporters and fans waiting for him at the airport. But after addressing the spectators, Frank is informed that they’re actually there to greet his fellow passenger: “Weird Al” Yankovic.

The cameo came about because Yankovic was a huge fan of Police Squad!. “I still consider that my favorite TV series of all time,...

Why Sterling K. Brown Was Cut From M. Night Shyamalan's Split
Image
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has one of the most varied filmographies of the last 30 years. Ever since he broke onto the Hollywood scene with his acclaimed psychological thriller "The Sixth Sense," his knack for suspense and character-driven narratives has spawned some of the most boldly original films that were unapologetically of his creative vision. "Unbreakable" and "Signs" both stand out as modern genre classics of the 2000s, but many critics believe that his sensibilities started to go a bit off course in the mid-to-late 2000s with films like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening," serving as massive swings-and-misses from him. Then there's his infamous live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series, "Avatar: The Last Airbender," widely considered one of the worst films of the 21st century. You can read /Film's review for that film here.

After a few duds, M. Night Shyamalan started to make a bit...

Girlfriend Who Was Into Reptiles and O.J. Simpson Trial: Brad Pitt Details His Weirdest Summer
Image
If you don’t roll with your weird, you’ll never find your wow factor; just ask Brad Pitt. His latest confession about his summer of 1994 proves that truth. On Armchair Expert, the Oscar-winning actor, 61, admitted he was creatively adrift after a couple of unsatisfying jobs and found himself caught in a cultural maelstrom like the O.J. Simpson trial.

Meanwhile, love was a little… scaly. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star also revealed he was dating someone obsessed with reptiles. He spent his days smoking, downing four Cokes on ice, skipping meals, and watching every minute of the trial. Then his sister-manager Cynthia sent him a script, and that changed everything.

The 15 Worst Things The Avengers Have Ever Done
Image
The Avengers are supposed to be synonymous with honor, justice, and heroism, but like any professional organization, there are times when its members disagree on the parameters of those virtues. The Marvel Comics franchise began in 1963, featuring the cross-over between several popular superheroes, including Iron Man, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk. Over 60 years later, every Avengers movie has been a cultural phenomenon, and the group has gone through a countless number of variations throughout the comics.

However, even though the Avengers are supposed to be the good guys, there are plenty of examples in the comics where that's not always the case. Whether it's through their treatment of heroes that are supposed to be their allies, or the complex ways they've struggled to survive in a modern political landscape, the Avengers have been responsible for their fair share of bad PR. These 15 moments from throughout the Marvel franchise, spanning comics,...

"Profiting Off [JFK Jr's Admiration] In A Grotesque Way": John F. Kennedy's Grandson Criticizes Ryan Murphy's American Love Story Series & Clarifies Family Involvement
JFK
JFK’s grandson has criticized American Crime Story producer Ryan Murphy’s upcoming show, American Love Story, clarifying his family’s lack of involvement. Murphy is one of the biggest names in TV, creating big-name shows like American Horror Story and Glee. In 2021, Ryan Murphy's TV show, American Love Story, was announced. It will follow the anthological format of his past shows, focusing on famous romantic relationships. The first season will follow the relationship of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, has taken to Instagram to criticize Ryan Murphy’s American Love Story series, which will focus on the romance between JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. He is unhappy that the show is being made and wants people to know that the Kennedy family is not involved with the show. In his video, Schlossberg said this:

Limited Series on JFK Jr. And Carolyn Bessette: All We Know About FX’s ‘American Love Story’
Image
Ryan Murphy is adding another series to his popular American Story collection. After American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and American Sports Story, he is now working on American Love Story. This will be the fourth part of the anthology series, and instead of focusing on crime or sports, it will tell a powerful love story.

American Love Story will follow the real-life relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Their romance was often in the news, but this series aims to show what their lives were really like behind the cameras. The story takes place during the 1990s, a time when both were often seen as American royalty.

While FX hasn’t shared an official release date just yet, production officially began in June 2025, with the series expected to premiere around Valentine’s Day in February 2026. First announced back in 2021 as part of Ryan Murphy’s expanding American Story anthology,...

Paramount Quietly Pulled Another Classic ‘South Park’ Episode From Certain Streaming Markets
Image
South Park fans in Canada and Australia recently found that an important Butters episode had gone missing from Paramount+. Some Puerto Rican guy must have struck again.

As the end draws near on the contentious South Park streaming contract that split the franchise between two homes, Paramount+ and Max, the planned consolidation of the South Park catalog by Paramount Global is shaping up to be as controversial and complicated as the previous deal. Last month, Paramount co-Chief Executive Chris McCarthy announced to shareholders that the company’s flagship streaming service would soon become the exclusive home of the entire South Park library, but hours later, South Park fans and industry insiders alleged that Paramount+ would be scrubbing some classic episodes over content concerns and political pressure as the media giant inches toward a sale to Larry Ellison’s entertainment company Skydance.

While Paramount hasn’t formally acknowledged the allegations that...

Watch Pamela Anderson, Liam Neeson Get Raunchy in ‘Naked Gun’ Trailer

Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson bring the laughs in the latest trailer for The Naked Gun. The film, out in August, will be the fourth in the iconic action-comedy franchise.

The new Naked Gun was co-written and directed by the Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer. Liam Neeson stars as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s previous protagonist Frank Drebin. Like his father, Drebin Jr. is a wildcard cop, getting into a number of hijinks while solving crimes. He meets the sultry Beth, played by Pamela Anderson,...

The Naked Gun Trailer's Stupidest Joke Proves The Comedy Reboot Is In Good Hands
Image
When news first broke that "The Naked Gun" was receiving a legacy sequel starring Liam Neeson, many of us shook our heads and criticized Hollywood for churning out yet another needless reboot. After all, the original movies are some of the best comedies of all time, and no one -- not even an actor of Neeson's quality -- could match the deadpan brilliance of Leslie Nielsen, right? However, those concerns were alleviated after the first "Naked Gun" reboot trailer threw shade at Oj Simpson, suggesting that director Akiva Schaffer and his co-writers Dan Gregor & Doug Mand have some clever zingers up their sleeves.

Well, now it's time for us naysayers to throw up our hands and admit we were wrong, as the latest trailer (see above) boasts a joke so gloriously silly that it wouldn't seem out of place coming from the mouth of Nielsen's clueless detective, Frank Drebin.

Liam Neeson Teams Up With Pamela Anderson In The Riotously Funny New Trailer For The Naked Gun
Image
Only one man has the particular set of skills...to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father's footsteps in The Naked Gun, directed by Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy).

As we first reported on ActioNewz.com, the first full trailer for the movie has been released, and it finds Neeson's hapless Lieutenant getting mixed up in all manner of compromising positions.

He's a buffoon, something that's hilariously established with him asking a crook why they "served 20 years for 'man's laughter" and cutting the line for the bathroom by firing his gun. However, things get serious (kinda) when Pamela Anderson's femme fatale arrives on the scene, seeking his help to solve the murder of her brother.

Neeson's Frank isn't the only legacy character. Paul Walter Hauser is the son of George Kennedy's Captain Ed Hocken,...

Liam Neeson Lives Up to the Drebin Legacy in The Naked Gun Trailer: Watch
Image
The trailer for the Naked Gun reboot, starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, has been revealed.

Arriving in theaters on August 1st, The Naked Gun stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., a lieutenant in the LAPD and the son of original Naked Gun protagonist Frank Drebin (famously played by Leslie Neilsen). He works on the force alongside Captain Ed Hocken Jr. (Paul Walter Hauser) and is regularly dispatched around the city to stop crime and prevent disasters; though in typical Naked Gun fashion, Drebin Jr. is one comedic gag away from disaster at all times.

Also joining Neeson’s Drebin Jr. is Beth (Pamela Anderson), who seeks the detective’s help in finding her brother’s killer. Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, and WWE star Cody Rhodes round out the film’s cast, with several appearing as the children of their original franchise counterparts; in one comedic moment from the trailer,...

‘The Naked Gun’ Trailer: Liam Neeson Takes on Leslie Nielsen’s Deadpan Legacy
Image
From the files of the Police Squad, “The Naked Gun” is back on August 1 in theaters everywhere — the rebooted Liam Neeson version that is. Paramount Pictures has released the theatrical trailer for the continuation of the series from which the similarly-named Leslie Nielsen mined box office gold.

In the new film, Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin, Jr., son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin character. Along for the sure-to-be-wacky ride are Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. Written by Dan Gregor, Doug Maud, and Akiva Schaffer, the movie was directed by Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins.

Neeson is not known for playing comedy — although Nielsen wasn’t either prior to his straight-faced “Don’t Call Me Shirley” turn in 1980’s “Airplane!” Neeson told ComingSoon.com last year that he needed to prove his comedic chops.

Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson Team Up in ‘Naked Gun’ Reboot’s Full Trailer
Image
Fans of The Naked Gun are about to have a good year with the release of the full trailer for the new movie.

Akiva Schaffer helms the reboot feature that Paramount releases in theaters Aug. 1. Liam Neeson stars as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Police Squad legend Frank Drebin, played in the franchise’s previous projects by the late Leslie Nielsen. Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Runnels and Cch Pounder round out the cast.

The new Naked Gun sees Neeson leading Police Squad in their latest effort to save the world. A previously released teaser trailer references Nordberg, the role played in the original movies by O.J. Simpson.

In the latest trailer, Anderson’s character, Beth, tells Neeson, “I think someone murdered my brother.” She later misinterprets his offer when he tells her, “Please, take a chair.”

Footage that also screened...

Sarah Paulson’s Performance in Netflix’s 97%-Rated Trial Series Didn’t Do the Trick for the Real Attorney
Image
Sarah Paulson’s portrayal of Marcia Clark in the Netflix limited series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was widely celebrated by critics and viewers alike. She brought to life the struggles of the real-life prosecutor, showing her intense dedication to justice while also revealing her personal challenges and vulnerabilities.

Paulson’s performance captured Clark’s complex emotions as she faced intense media scrutiny during the O.J. Simpson trial. Although the show was highly praised, Clark shared that while Paulson was brilliant, some parts of the portrayal didn’t fully capture her true experience.

This highlights how even highly rated shows, like this one, with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, can present a version of real events that doesn’t fully resonate with the real people involved.

The Harry Potter Movie Universe Timeline Explained
Image
One bizarre yet understated aspect of the "Harry Potter" books is that they kind of count as period pieces. At first glance they might seem like they take place in the vague here and now, but on closer inspection it's clear that "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," published in 1998, actually takes place from summer 1991 to late spring of 1992. The final book, published in 2007, takes place from 1997 to 1998. It's a shame Harry was so preoccupied with preventing Voldemort from taking over the world, because he could've been enjoying the golden age of "The Simpsons" instead. I suppose that's just one of many downsides to the Dark Lord's reign of terror.

The reason this '90s timeline is surprising to some of the more casual fans is that the book series doesn't have that strong of a '90s feel. Because Harry is off in a secluded wizarding world most of the time,...

Norm Macdonald's Forgotten Sitcom Is Nearly Impossible To Watch Today
Image
When Norm Macdonald passed away in 2021, the world grieved deeply. Macdonald, with his deadpan delivery and deliberately tasteless jokes, often dealt in anti-humor by telling jokes so corny and dated that people laughed at Norm's audacity more than the joke itself. Just as many people were outraged as were impressed by the depths of his tastelessness during his stint on "Saturday Night Live," whereon he would openly and repeatedly mention the crimes and alleged horrific acts committed by celebrities like O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson. Macdonald, like too many comedians of his generation, also made a series of transphobic jokes during his career, although he eventually (clumsily) apologized for them. "God bless trans people," he stated, "They should be given every right in the world, and anybody who wants to hurt them is bad."

Macdonald may have been appreciated, but he was never wholly mainstream, at least outside of standup and "SNL.

These Were Norm Macdonald’s Funniest Answers (and Jokes) on ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’
Image
In the year 2000, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was the biggest game show on TV. Like all popular game shows, it wouldn’t be long until they cranked out a celebrity edition of the show. In fact, it debuted that same year. For Celebrity Millionaire’s second week, the contestants were a truly eclectic group — a group that included Tyra Banks, Vivica A. Fox, Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen and disgraced rapper P. Diddy. There were also a host of comedians, the most memorable of which was Norm Macdonald, who was the very last to compete for his charity.

It was worth the wait, however, as Macdonald cranked out a number of hilarious zingers during his short stint on the show. Here are his 10 funniest jokes and answers…

10 “You know, if this was me I would keep going, but there’s children… Give me that $100!”
