Adam Sandler and Bob Barker Actually Had Second Fistfight After ‘Happy Gilmore’
Image
The most iconic moment from the original Happy Gilmore wasn’t putting with a hockey stick or destroying Chubb’s wooden hand or Ben Stiller terrorizing Happy’s grandma. The scene that stuck in everyone’s mind was Gilmore’s epic throwdown with white-haired Price Is Right host Bob Barker.

Barker, who insisted on throwing his own punches in the scene, only wishes he had a dollar for every time he’d go on to hear the line, “The price is wrong, bitch!” The fight begged for a reprise in Happy Gilmore 2, but unfortunately, Barker headed for that Showcase Showdown in the sky back in 2023. In its place (minor spoiler here), we got a knockdown graveyard brawl between Gilmore and his rival Shooter McGavin, with only Barker’s tombstone to remind us of what could have been.

But Happy Gilmore fans did get their rematch after all. Nearly 20 years...

Cheri Oteri Wasn’t Asked to Participate in ‘SNL50’
Image
Back in the ‘90s, Cheri Oteri was one of Saturday Night Live’s biggest stars, famous for playing characters like the overly-medicated Colette Reardon, Arianna the Spartan cheerleader, 20/20 host Barbara Walters and, of course, the “simmer down now” lady.

But Oteri didn’t appear on stage during this year’s SNL50. Why? Because apparently nobody asked her to…

Oteri recently guested on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, and just before the episode ended, Carvey brought up the anniversary special. “What did you do on the 50th? I missed it. Were you there? Did you do anything?” the Master of Disguise star inquired.

“No, I was not asked to do anything. I sat in the audience,” Oteri replied.

“Bastards,” Carvey responded. “Waste of talent.”

While you’d think that bringing back Oteri and Will Ferrell’s Spartan Cheerleaders during SNL50 would have been a no-brainer,...

14 Embarrassing Ways Celebrities Attempted to Revive Their Career
Image
Imagine if your fall-back was an NBA Championship three-peat.

14 Kim Kardashian’s Head Fell Off

In 2011, she added to her tragically diverse portfolio with a horrible song called “Jam (Turn It Up)” that flopped with 14,000 downloads in its first week. Don’t worry, she blamed it on a good cause: She retroactively and flippantly announced that she “gave the proceeds to a cancer organization.” Ew, here, you take this 14 cents.

13 Kevin Spacey Stayed in Character

After allegations of sexual assault surfaced, he was summarily written out of Netflix’s flagship franchise, House of Cards, and has struggled to get work since. In response, he used his yearly Christmas video to make a seven-minute interview with Tucker Carlson while in character as brutal sociopath Frank Underwood.

12 Tell Spooky Stories!

There are at least two TV shows that make no bones about the premise of letting waning stars tell ghost stories: Celebrity...

Right-Wing Content Creator Exposed for Stealing John Mulaney’s Slur Routine
Image
Pretty soon, some conservative content creator is going to go viral with his hilarious story involving a diner jukebox and Tom Jones.

The last nine years of American culture’s slide to the right have proven that conservatives simply aren’t funny. When the political majority’s headlining comedians are Rob Schneider, a not-nearly-lucid Roseanne Barr and a professional open-mic host who once bombed so hard he nearly lost President Donald Trump the 2024 election, we know that American comedy culture is in a rough state, and the deluge of “comedic” culture warrior content on platforms that the Right previously wanted to ban has only exacerbated the GOP’s humor problem.

So when popular conservative TikToker, author and alleged drunk driver Joseph “The Older Millennial” Redden decided to make a “humorous” post on the controversial Chinese spyware app about political correctness and the sarcastic online movement to use the word “clanker...

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Easter Egg Honoring Cameron Boyce Hits Fans Right in the Feels: ‘He Really Loved That Kid’
Image
Nearly 30 years after the original “Happy Gilmore,” its sequel hit Netflix this weekend, and among the many cameos in it, one is hitting fans directly in the heart: Cameron Boyce.

Boyce played Sandler’s son in the “Grown Ups” films, and sadly, the actor died in 2019 at the age of 20. In 2020, Sandler included an homage to Boyce at the end of his film “Hubie Halloween,” and in “Happy Gilmore 2,” he made sure his onscreen son was included once again.

Early in the film, Happy heads to a local golf course to start shaking off the rust and practice for an upcoming tournament. As he approaches the stand to check in, the employees can be seen watching an episode of “Jessie,” the Disney Channel series where Boyce rose to fame. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but the credits of “Happy Gilmore 2” confirm the footage from Disney.

Happy Gilmore 2 Cast Salary Breakdown: How Much Did Adam Sandler and the Others Make?
Image
‘Happy Gilmore 2’ had a reported budget of around $30-40 million, and it looks like the extensive cast was paid handsomely for their contributions to the sequel.

Ofcourse, Adam Sandler is back as the boorish golf player in Kyle Newacheck’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ The last time we saw the character was all the way back in 1996 when the sports comedy ended with Happy defeating Shooter McGavin in the Tour Championship and finally earning the respect he always craved.

Now, nearly three decades later, Sandler is back in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, but this time with a tragic story that makes him give up on his successful golfing career. While the Og film became somewhat of a cult classic over the years, the sequel is also a great watch if you’re looking for something light-hearted, despite the mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a score of 65%, just two...

Every ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Cameo, Ranked
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers.

At this stage in his career, when Adam Sandler goes out to a prospective star of one of his projects, he probably doesn’t hear “no” a lot; it’s probably a lot likelier that he has to give a polite pass to the prospective stars who come to him. So it’s no surprise that Happy Gilmore 2 is loaded with celebrities, to the point where secondary and tertiary roles are filled by faces you know. Bad Bunny may be one of the biggest musical acts in the world right now; that doesn’t mean he can’t show up to play Happy’s new golf caddy. Oscar nominee Haley Joel Osment shows up as a new golf rival to Happy (having presumably been cast before his recent public disgrace). Margaret Qualley has worked multiple times with acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos; doesn’t mean she’d...

Dan Aykroyd gives reason for his absence at SNL 50th anniversary special
Dan Aykroyd
Live from New York, it’s…not Dan Aykroyd. There were several key players missing from this year’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of SNL, including Dana Carvey, Bill Hader and the aforementioned Dan Aykroyd. And while it was previously reported that Aykroyd wouldn’t be taking the stage at Studio 8H due to a scheduling conflict, he is debunking this and providing a totally relatable reason for his absence.

As Dan Aykroyd told Entertainment Weekly about why he snubbed the SNL event, “I wanted to be at home and I wanted to watch the show beginning to end…I knew if i was there, I’d be in a dressing room, I’d be working. I wanted to see it live. I’m a fan of the show today, and I watch it all the time. I love these new players; I think they’re just great. I...

Happy Gilmore 2 Review: Adam Sandler is back on the green in the long-awaited sequel
Image
Plot: Twenty-nine years after winning his first Tour Championship, retired golfer Happy Gilmore returns to the sport to pay for his daughter Vienna’s ballet school.

Review (Warning: contains mild spoilers): When Happy Gilmore hit theaters in 1996, I was a dumb high schooler who had loved the idiocy of Adam Sandler’s Billy Madison and hoped for more of the sophomoric shenanigans that film delivered. Reteaming with Billy Madison co-writer Tim Herlihy, Happy Gilmore was a hilariously stupid sports movie with Sandler’s trademark yelling and bizarre jokes wrapped in an underdog tale. Naming his production company after his first two hit films, Adam Sandler has gone on to make dozens of similar movies interspersed with acclaimed movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. After three decades, Sandler and Herlihy have returned to give audiences the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2, which replicates the heartfelt stupidity of the original movie...

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Review: Adam Sandler Tees Off a Happy Orgy of Raucous Fan-Service Nostalgia
Image
“Happy Gilmore 2” is a happy orgy of raucously well-executed Adam Sandler fan service. It’s a pointed exercise in nostalgia, but with a present-tense edge. It’s not some fake update of the clever/dumb brand of slob comedy that made Sandler a superstar in the ’90s. It’s the genuine article, a true revival of Sandler’s Jerry Lewis-meets-rock ‘n’ roll rage. A sequel to his fabled 1996 golf comedy, it extends that movie’s anarchy-on-the-putting-green spirit as blithely as if the original had been made yesterday.

In the ’90s comedies that defined him, Sandler portrayed himself as an arrested man-child, the kind of antisocial loser who had to fight his way in. So you may ask: How easy is it for him to play the misfit-outsider today, now that he’s been encased in so many years of stardom?

It turns out to be easy as hell,...

‘SNL’s Cue Card Guy Has An Incredible Instagram Account
Image
Saturday Night Live superfans might already know this, but SNL’s cue-card guy, Wally Feresten, is on Instagram. He’s been doing cue cards at SNL since 1990, and now also manages the cue cards for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Basically, if there are cue-card needs at NBC, Feresten is there. His first episode ever was hosted by Kyle McLachlan with musical guest Sinead O’Connor. But beyond his essential role in getting jokes on air, he also manages a fantastic Instagram account.

Not only does he share shots from behind the scenes at 30 Rock, he also collaborates with Meyers’ guests to do Charli Xcx reels and sharing custom cue cards you can actually order from him. (Find them over at cuecardsbywally.com!) It’s a very wholesome side to the often-cutthroat world of late-night television.

Feresten’s account feels like real inside baseball — not just for Saturday Night Live, but for the entire network.

During Late-Night’s Last Stand, Fans Want to Know: Where the Hell is Conan O'Brien?
Image
There’s been so much outcry about the cancellation of Stephen Colbert, it’s been hard to think about much else. David Letterman is speaking out. Jon Stewart is cursing up a storm. Seth Meyers is leaving the NBC studio. Both Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon have been put in Trump’s crosshairs. It’s a real star-studded affair. The only comedian who hasn’t really joined the endless support train for Colbert is Rob Schneider. And yeah, fork found in kitchen.

But suspiciously absent from the Weird Al musical numbers, Instagram statements and calls for Trump’s resignation is one of late night’s most prominent figures. In a tweet announcing the surprise guests for Colbert’s Monday night show, one person responded to the extensive lineup with the seemingly confusing question: “what about the redhair?”

Any true fan knows that “redhair” is the one and only Conan O’Brien.

Of Course Rob Schneider Is the One Comedian Against Stephen Colbert
Image
On a day when comedy united to oppose the firing of Stephen Colbert, one voice howled in the wilderness to denounce The Late Show host. That’s cancel-culture hater Rob Schneider, who decided getting canceled wasn’t so bad after all. He also found a way to work anti-vax rhetoric into the conversation because in a world where everything seems upside-down, Schneider’s gonna Schneider.

“Stephen Colbert Cancelled!” was Schneider’s headline on Instagram, a spiteful celebration that makes sense after the SNL alum complained, “Colbert never had me on his show!” Neither has liberal bastard Jimmy Kimmel, he griped before begrudgingly correcting himself.

Forget the Paramount sale — Colbert got canceled because he refused to speak to “the 47 states” that didn’t share his left-wing views about “women who have junk between their legs,” said Schneider, throwing the obligatory hunk of anti-trans red meat to his followers. Colbert’s narrowcasting...

Adam Sandler’s Long-Dismissed 8% Rotten Tomatoes Bomb Is Getting a Sequel Update After 11 Years
Image
Grown Upsbrought together some of the biggest comedy names – Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider – as childhood friends reuniting for a chaotic weekend with their families. The first film hit theaters in 2010 and didn’t do well with critics, scoring just 10% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, gave it a solid 62%, which was enough to keep the franchise alive. The support led to a sequel in 2013, but Grown Ups 2 did even worse with critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 8%. After that, the franchise faded away with no updates. Now, after almost a decade, it looks like Grown Ups 3 may be a real possibility.

In an interview with The Direct, Kevin James was promoting his new movie Guns Upwhen the topic of Grown Ups 3 came up. He didn’t give a clear confirmation, but he did have this to say: “I think there have been [conversations]. And I think,...

Adam Sandler Was Hugely Relieved When His Daughters Didn’t Suck at Acting
Image
However you feel about the nepo baby discourse now that it’s a more public discussion, we all knew there was zero chance Adam Sandler’s kids weren’t going to end up in his movies. The man is a bastion of loyalty, which he’s proven again and again with cast lists you could set a clock to, even as some members get a little, um, oblique with their political views. Given that he’s still sticking Rob Schneider in stuff, there’s no chance he’s not gonna give a role to a blood relation.

So his daughters Sadie and Sunny have, as expected, been quickly inducted into the Sandler actor armory. According to Sandler, that came with a huge amount of relief when he saw that they could actually act worth a rat’s ass. They’ve appeared in Hubie Halloween and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,...

Happy Gilmore 2 Director Wants to Make a Sequel to Adam Sandler's Most Underrated Movie
Image
Adam Sandler has appeared in a wide variety of comedy movies, but he has only done very few sequels. One of those, Happy Gilmore 2, is hitting Netflix this month. If the movie is well-received, it could lead to another Sandler classic getting a new sequel.

To promote the sequel, which comes out on July 25, director Kyle Newacheck spoke about Happy Gilmore 2 in a new interview with ComicBook.com. The filmmaker shared his opinion that there are several other Sandler films that could benefit from having a sequel made after Happy Gilmore 2. Newacheck cited Little Nicky as one in particular that is ripe for a sequel, given how much Sandler continues to do the character's unique voice.

As Newacheck said, “Here’s one that I think would be interesting now. Because [Sandler] was always doing the Little Nicky voice on set like so just hearing it, I was like, I...

Adam Sandler's Hilarious Family Comedy & Its Sequel Are Streaming Hits On Netflix
Image
There just seems to be something about Adam Sandler movies that allows the vast majority of them to remain timeless and the kind of films that people come back to year after year. That's the case again as his highest-grossing live-action movie and its sequel are now trending on Netflix.

Adam Sandler movies have been a mixed bag over the years, with some being considered comedy classics and some seeing him garner Oscar buzz, and a handful, but a few ending up critically panned. Regardless of how they're received though, Sandler's most memorable films are the ones where he has fun castmates to play off of.

Although Adam Sandler is known for putting his comedic friends into several of his movies, none do a better job of it than the film that's currently among the top 10 on Netflix's trending chart. It's Sandler and his many buddies at their best.

Walton Goggins, Jennifer Tilly, Billy Baldwin and More Pay Tribute to Michael Madsen: “A Total Stick of Dynamite on Screen”

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Michael Madsen, who died Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. He was 67.

The actor, known for his work in many Quentin Tarantino films like Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was found unresponsive by deputies responding to a 911 call at his home in Malibu. His rep told THR Madsen had “a cardiac arrest.”

Following the news, stars and family took to social media to share tributes to Madsen. His sister and Candyman actress Virginia Madsen posted a photo of them with her mom, writing partly in the caption, “He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother — etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark. We’re not mourning a public figure. We’re not mourning a myth — but flesh and blood and ferocious heart.

Michael Madsen Remembered by Harvey Keitel, Virginia Madsen, Vivica A. Fox, and More: Late Actor Was a ‘Poet Disguised as an Outlaw’ Onscreen and Off

Michael Madsen is being remembered by his Hollywood peers. The actor, who collaborated with Quentin Tarantino ever since his directorial debut “Reservoir Dogs,” died at age 67 after suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Madsen’s team confirmed his death to IndieWire, stating that he had been found unresponsive at his Malibu home. Madsen starred in both “Kill Bill” films, “The Hateful Eight,” and “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” and almost appeared in “Pulp Fiction” as Vincent Vega, the character that was later played by John Travolta. Outside of his work with Tarantino, Madsen acted in “Donnie Brasco,” “The Natural,” “The Doors,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Die Another Day,” “Sin City,” “Boarding Gate,” and “Free Willy,” among many other films. Adam Sandler's $272 Million Comedy He Called "A Big Part of My Life" Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming in America
Image
As Adam Sandler prepares to tee off again in Happy Gilmore 2, another one of his most beloved box office hits has quietly shot back up the leader board — this time, on Netflix. Grown Ups, the 2010 reunion comedy featuring Sandler and a murderers' row of stand-up comedy royalty, is currently sitting at #9 on Netflix in the U.S., proving there’s still a big audience for fart jokes, friendship, and lakeside shenanigans.

And that’s despite what critics said back in the day. Rotten Tomatoes may have handed it a brutal 10% approval rating, but audiences never cared. The original film brought in over $272 million at the global box office on a $75 million budget — and its 2013 sequel did nearly as well, pulling in $247 million. That’s not just a hit. That’s a franchise with serious legs (even if one of those legs just tripped on a banana peel). Sandler told...

Netflix adding a slew of SNL favorites in July in time for Happy Gilmore 2 release
Image
Happy Gilmore 2 tees off on Netflix July 25. To celebrate, the streaming service is launching a collection of movies featuring Sandler and fellow Saturday Night Live alumni.

Sandler returns to one of his most iconic roles for the first time in almost 30 years. Stars returning from the 1996 comedy classic include Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald. Several actors from the Saturday Night Live family are also onboard for Happy Gilmore 2, including Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller, Marcello Hernandez, Jim Downey, and Martin Herlihy.

But Netflix isn't waiting until July 25 to let fans stream their favorite SNL stars. Here's a breakdown of what's coming to Netflix in July, featuring SNL stars past and present (via Collider).

To no surprise, Happy Gilmore kicks things off. The film premiered just a year after Sandler left Saturday Night Live and has since become a cult classic. In addition to Nealon and Stiller, the original also...

Jeremy Renner & Idris Elba’s 18-Year-Old Zombie Sequel Is Dethroned on Streaming by an Adam Sandler Comedy You Totally Forgot About
Image
Ahead of the hotly anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, another Adam Sandler movie is climbing the streaming charts and has overtaken a zombie horror film. As of June 28, Grown Ups, which was released in 2010, has overtaken 28 Weeks Later to claim the No. 3 spot in Hulu’s Top 10 Movies list. Per FlixPatrol, Grown Ups is now right behind its 2013 sequel, Grown Ups 2, and Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything.

The 28 Days Later sequel film, 28 Weeks Later, released in 2007, now sits in the No. 4 spot in Hulu’s Top 10. It’s not surprising that both Grown Ups and 20 Weeks Later are in the top 10. The third film in the zombie horror franchise, 28 Years Later is currently in theaters, so fans likely want to catch up on the previous title.

Conan O’Brien Was Joking About Firing Louis C.K. Long Before He Became #MeToo’d
Image
Louis C.K. was one of the most prominent “cancellations” in comedy. A “cancellation” after which he won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, mind you. An album on which he jokes about the exact sexual misconduct that… ended his career? He says from the stage of a sold-out stadium? The acrobatics of the angered mind that’s read half of the First Amendment are hard to follow.

The stories about him intimidating female comedians into watching him masturbate to completion against their will are the centerpiece of his legacy now, as they well should be. Some of his old jokes themselves, even removed from his penchant for cornering women and exposing himself to them, probably would raise an eyebrow or inspire a thinkpiece themselves. Most comics now would prefer not to have an extended clip of them using the n-word on wax, for example.

In an old interview with Conan O’Brien,...

Brazilian Comic Sentenced to Eight Years for Offensive Jokes
Image
Somebody ought to tell Bill Maher and Rob Schneider that the real cancel culture is in Brazil. According to EuroWeekly, comedian Leo Lins has been sentenced to eight years in jail for inciting intolerance with his offensive jokes.

Earlier this week, Lins received his punishment for a comedy special that targeted — deep breath here — Black people, obese people, elderly people, people with HIV, homosexuals, evangelicals, Indigenous communities, people from the impoverished northeast of Brazil, Jews and people with disabilities. Lins wasn’t trying to simply win the game but was trying to fill the entire bingo card.

A federal court in São Paulo ruled that Lins’s right to freedom of expression was not absolute, and “cannot be used as an excuse to make hateful, prejudiced and discriminatory remarks.” His jokes had consequences, the court ruled, declaring that the comedian’s YouTube special helped fuel “the spread of verbal violence in society and promote intolerance.

Joe Jonas Calls Brutal ‘South Park’ Parody An ‘Honor’
Image
South Park obviously has a long history of roasting public figures — from Barbra Streisand, to Mel Gibson to Rob Schneider, who, to be fair, subsequently starred in movies that were way worse than The Stapler.

One of the show’s harshest celebrity burns targeted The Jonas Brothers. The Season 13 episode “The Ring” illustrated that the group was really being manipulated by an abusive Mickey Mouse, who forced them to wear their purity rings because, as Mickey tells the trio, “that's how we can sell sex to little girls.”

Somewhat surprisingly, the episode’s fans now include two-thirds of the Jonas Brothers.

In a 2016 Reddit Ama, Nick Jonas admitted that “when it first came out I didn't think it was funny,” explaining that “I was actually living all of that in real time, so it just made it harder to come and live your life as a young person and have all that going on.

Decades After the ‘Life of Brian’ Protests, John Cleese Is Now a Spokesperson for Organized Religion
Image
While John Cleese has been behind some of the greatest comedies of all-time, the latter phase of his career has been a tad more questionable. In recent years, Cleese has starred in a Rob Schneider vanity project, participated in a cringey Australian roast and hosted an anti-woke talk show set in a medieval castle for some reason.

But even given those baffling career decisions, his latest gig was about as expected as the Spanish Inquisition.

Cleese is currently the face of The Revelation of the Andalusian Crush, which, per EuroWeekly News, is a “new international tourism campaign video launched by the Andalusian regional government” in order to “promote Holy Week,” timed to coincide with this past weekend’s Procesión Magna.

The ad, which runs for over a minute and was recently shared by Cleese on social media, finds the Fawlty Towers star visiting a Catholic confessional. He then mumbles vague...

Chris Farley at an event for Excess Baggage (1997)
Why Lorne Michaels looked out for Chris Farley during the SNL years
Chris Farley at an event for Excess Baggage (1997)
The tragedy of Chris Farley isn’t only about his death, it’s that it seemed to come directly from his admiration for John Belushi. Farley’s idolization could be charming, like when he would try on Belushi’s old clothes in the SNL wardrobe department; but it also headed where so many knew it would. As such, Lorne Michaels made it a duty of his to keep an eye on Farley the best he could.

As told by Susan Morrison, author of Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live, Michaels was deeply affected by the 1982 death of Belushi, who was an original player on SNL. And while drugs were around in subsequent eras, watch was specifically put on Chris Farley during his SNL run in the early to mid ‘90s. “When Belushi died, it really hit [Michaels] hard. And I think he felt like, oh my God, this whole...

Why Adam Sandler Was Fired From SNL
Image
Throughout its 50-year run, "Saturday Night Live" has been the launching pad for some of history's most beloved comedic actors and actresses. Fans often debate which decade of "SNL" was the best, but an argument can be made that the 1990s featured some of the funniest sketches in the show's history, introducing audiences to up-and-comers who would go on to become some of the biggest names in comedy to this day. One of those young stars was none other than Adam Sandler.

After making his film debut in 1989, Adam Sandler performed stand-up comedy in clubs. At one of his performances in Los Angeles, "SNL" cast member Dennis Miller was in attendance. Impressed by Sandler's material, Miller recommended him to Lorne Michaels, which led to Sandler landing a job in the "SNL" writers' room in 1990 and eventually being promoted to featured player in the cast. Alongside his co-stars Chris Farley, Tim Meadows,...

Conan O’Brien Explains Why He Continues to Support the Kennedy Center
Image
Conan O’Brien isn’t ready to give up on our country’s most prestigious cultural institutions just because they’ve been hijacked by a megalomaniac — he’s learned his lesson from The Tonight Show.

Following President Donald Trump’s hostile takeover of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and his firing of the National Cultural Center’s board of trustees, many creatives canceled their planned performances at the venerated venue out of protest, but not O’Brien. The Kennedy Center announced the late-night comedy legend as this year’s recipient of the hallowed Mark Twain Prize for American Humor just three weeks before a newly reinstated President Trump cleared out the Washington, D.C. cultural center of its longtime custodians and named himself the chairman of the organization. Despite the ongoing controversy, O’Brien went ahead with the scheduled ceremony on March 23rd, using his acceptance speech...

5 One-Joke Premises That ‘SNL’ Ran Into the Ground
Image
No Saturday Night Live character of recent vintage gets under my skin quite like Domingo, the gyrating Marcello Hernandez creation who cheats with Chloe Fineman when hubby Andrew Dismukes’ back is turned. The first Domingo sketch was fine but forgettable, but now he returns every few weeks to have his way with Fineman once again. Blame TikTok, since the sketch lends itself to memeable dance shorts that make up for the sketches’ inability to extend the original cuckold joke.

Redditors agree, as Domingo got multiple nominations and scores of votes in a recent r/LiveFromNewYork thread that asked the question, “What are some top examples of a joke getting stretched too thin?” But Domingo had plenty of company, mostly from SNL recurring characters that repeated the same catchphrases over and over again. Here are five of the most upvoted nominations for SNL sketches that ran a single joke into the ground…...

These Adam Sandler Movies All Have the Same Easter Egg
Image
Adam Sandler is one of his generation's most iconic comedy actors. His early works, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, etc., are among the most well-known and acclaimed. While later movies have seen a more "mixed" critical reception, Sandler has no doubt made his mark. But what if there was a secret Easter egg in several of his movies? And what if that Easter egg was hidden in plain sight?

In several Sandman pictures, his female love interest has the initials "Vv." There's Veronica Vaughn, Virginia Venit, Vicki Vallencourt, and more. But not every onscreen partner has these initials, so what's the story with the ones that do? Have we stumbled down some new conspiracy theory rabbit hole? Is "Vv" a secret sign warning of what's to come? Or is it just Sandler being Sandler and making up funny names? In all likelihood, the latter is the case.

Judge Dredd (1995) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
Imagine if, in modern times, the role of let’s say, DC’s Sgt. Rock went to the literal Rock, Dwayne Johnson. Imagine that he was given creative control over the high budget state of the art project despite having no idea who Sgt. Rock even was initially. Finally, imagine he decided to make it in the vein of all of his films, hiring Kevin Hart to be his sidekick, and royally pissing off fans of the source material along the way. That’s the best modern analogy I can come up with for what happened to 1995’s Judge Dredd. A film that had crew members allegedly taking bets on their director’s life expectancy, an NC17 rating, and Sylvester Stallone screaming I Am The Law!!! This is what happened to Judge Dredd.

Judge Dredd debuted in 1995; a year packed with iconic films. At the time, the superhero craze hadn’t fully kicked in,...

Jerry Seinfeld Says ‘SNL’ Sketch Making Fun of Him Was ‘A Thrill’
Image
Funny is funny, Jerry Seinfeld often argues (sometimes in defense of some pretty cringe humor). But give the comedian credit. If the gag is good, Seinfeld will laugh hysterically — even if he is the butt of the joke.

Case in point: “The Standups,” a 1980s Saturday Night Live sketch that skewered Seinfeld’s stand-up style years before his titular sitcom debuted. Tom Hanks, Jon Lovitz and Dennis Miller play comedians backstage at a club, all speaking in that familiar “What’s the deal with…?” rhythm.

Play

“I just got back from eating Mexican,” jokes Miller in what has to be one of the earliest Jerry imitations. “And I’m thinking, Hey! What’s the deal with these refried beans? I mean, hey! Why do they have to fry them twice?”

Former Seinfeld writer Spike Feresten played the bit for Seinfeld on a recent episode of his Spike’s Car Radio podcast,...

Between Oscar Wins, Adrien Brody Starred in a Rob Schneider Comedy Directed by the ShamWow Guy
Image
Adrien Brody won his second Academy Award on Sunday night for his starring role in the critically-acclaimed film The Brutalist.

The first time he scored a Best Actor trophy, Brody controversially kissed Halle Berry without her consent, so you’d think he’d work extra hard to not do something gross and weird immediately after winning an Oscar this time. But nope, right before taking the stage Brody took some chewing gum out of his mouth and chucked it at his partner. He then proceeded to give a speech that made The Brutalist feel like a Quibi show by comparison.

Although Brody had already won for The Pianist in 2003, his recent victory is something of a comeback. Apart from the occasional Wes Anderson film, Brody’s cinematic output in the past decade or so hasn’t been terribly memorable. And perhaps the best evidence of just how low Brody’s...
