Universal Pictures is celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Apollo 13” by rereleasing the groundbreaking space-drama in Imax. The full-length theatrical version of the Oscar-nominated film will return to theaters Sep. 19 and play exclusively in Imax through Sep. 25.

Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer at Imagine Entertainment, “Apollo 13” recounts the true story of astronauts Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), who embarked on the eponymous space odyssey that became one of the tensest rescue missions in NASA history. The film released in 1995, captivating audiences with its powerful story and spectacular special effects.

“Apollo 13” also marked a cornerstone in the history of Imax. In 2002, it became the first live-action film digitally remastered using Imax’s then-novel Dmr technology and was released as “Apollo 13: The Imax Experience.” At the time, thirteen minutes of the original film were cut to accommodate limitations in Imax projection systems.

Golshifteh Farahani will receive the Locarno Film Festival’s prestigious Excellence Award Davide Campari on Aug. 6, 2025.

Farahani will present her recent film, Julia Ducournau’s “Alpha,” which premiered this year in competition at Cannes. She will also take part in a public conversation with the festival audience.

Born in Tehran in 1983, Farahani’s got her breakthrough role in Dariush Mehrjui’s “The Pear Tree” back in 1998. Since then, she has appeared in Abbas Kiarostami’s “Shirin,” Asghar Farhadi’s “About Elly,” Jim Jarmusch’s “Paterson,” Ridley Scott’s spy thriller “Body of Lies” or even in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, starring in “Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

In 2017, she came to Locarno to present the Rajasthan-set “The Song of Scorpions” on the Piazza Grande.

From well-known, iconic classics to underseen, forgotten films, the streamer has movies you either may not have ever heard of before or ones you have been meaning to check out for years. “Duplicity,” writer-director Tony Gilroy‘s underrated follow-up to his acclaimed “Michael Clayton,” is an unlikely blend of paranoid corporate politics and romance.
