Sylvester Stallone recently took to social media to look back fondly and celebrate the 43rd anniversary of his film, Rocky III. The film premiered on May 28, 1982.
Stallone posted on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt message reflecting on filming Rocky III, saying: "I know its been said many times before as time flies by. But the time we did Rocky three was a glorious moment that I love sharing with all the loyal fans...Keep punching!" He also shared multiple images from the Rocky film, including one with Mr. T, who starred as James "Clubber" Lang in the film.
As the third installment in the franchise, Rocky III saw Stallone reprising his role as "the Italian Stallion" Rocky Balboa, the heavyweight champion of the world. Just four years after he and Keanu Reevesbecame '80s icons with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Alex Winterteamed up with frequent collaborator Tom Stern to write and direct a '90s cult classic — Freaked. Winter worked both in front of and behind the camera as co-director for the project, creating a darkly-comedic creature feature packed with gnarly and imaginative practical effects, gross-out humor aplenty, and a colorful aesthetic that stands out from its contemporaries. The bizarre B-movie mash-up evoking everything from Pee-wee's Playhouse to H.P. Lovecraft landed with a critical thud in 1993, but time has earned it new life with cinephiles, as evident by its 66% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Collider is excited to share that the film is finally getting the 4K restoration it needed courtesy of Drafthouse Films.

I said it once, and I’ll repeat it: Conan O’Brien Must Go is the series we need right now. It’s a big spoonful of “Coco” that goes down smooth—comfort food for living in a time and place where everything seems upside down. Right is wrong, and wrong is correct—but not when you have Conan O’Brien around.
That’s because funny is funny, and the man with the tall, voluminous, fiery red pompadour can unite the world like no one else can. For the bulk of his career, Leslie Nielsen was best known for his stern, dramatic roles. His tall stature and low voice had casting directors offering him parts as commanders, leaders, and even heavies. Many might recall Nielsen's stone-faced turn in 1956's "Forbidden Planet" as the captain in "The Poseidon Adventure," or playing a cop in the 1972 cop drama "The Bold Ones: The Protectors." In 1977's "Day of the Animals" he plays a manly outdoorsman who loses his mind and, quite darkly, declares insane dominion over animals and women. Some might recall that he can hold his breath a long time, as he declared in "Creepshow." Many will be shocked to witness Nielsen beat and assault Barbra Streisand in the 1987 drama "Nuts."
However, Nielsen did appear in a handful of comedies, most notably, playing Dr. Rumack in the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker farce "Airplane!" The parody proved that he had a talent for deadpan comedy,...

Every Rocky movie is only as good as the opponent. From the Muhammad Ali-inspired Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) to the respect-hungry Mason “The Line” Dixon (Antonio Tarver), every man who stepped into the ring with the Italian Stallion made a lasting impression on audiences. One of those men reached cultural icon status in the ‘80s with Rocky III: Mr. T as the unstoppable Clubber Lang.

The premiere of the 36th season of "The Simpsons" was novel. Matt Groening's animated sitcom has been airing for so long -- so ... so long! -- that audiences have frequently begun to wonder how the zeitgeist-defining hit should come to an end. Will it tap out at season 40? At 50? And if so, how would the series actually close? Perhaps to take the pressure off, the showrunners decided that the premiere of season 36 should be a preemptive series finale, giving a retrospective of the entire "Simpsons" oeuvre before the show actually ends. The episode, called "Bart's Birthday," was presented as an awards-show-style screening, projected in a theater stuffed with celebrities ("Weird Al" Yankovic! Penn & Teller! The Unknown Comic!). Conan O'Brien, playing himself, hosted the finale in wistful terms, bidding farewell to the long-running series.

In an age when more and more games have taken on the continual live-service model, only so many can gain traction (some only last a few days). Given how many falter, it’s a badge of honor that the Og, 2004’s World of Warcraft, has survived so long that it’s nearly old enough to drink. The first WrestleMania in WWE history was almost ruined in an instant. One of the biggest business decisions of Vince McMahon's career as a promoter, WrestleMania would help launch WWE into the global superpower that it is today. Had the first edition been a failure, the company's lifespan would have not been so long. As fans know, the first WrestleMania was a resounding success, but the event actually almost ended in disaster.
On YouTube, during the B4 the Bell podcast, one host, Chris Burns, revealed that a past conversation with the late Roddy Piper saw the Rowdy One insinuate that he almost considered killing Mr. T during the main event of WWE's first WrestleMania. The real heat that stemmed backstage between Mr. T and Roddy Piper has been well-documented, but this is the first instance that it's been said that Piper hated him badly enough to want to kill him.

Ask nearly anyone to describe Mr. T. and you’ve got the same description: the mohawk, the gold jewelry, the tank top, the muscles…It’s so distinct that it must be planned. And it is. But we bet you couldn’t tell us the significance of any of it: what the mohawk and chains symbolize, what the “T” really means deep down. And we bet you couldn’t tell us Mr. T.’s real name if your mama’s life depended on it. Is it for Tender? Or Tough? Maybe a little of both, depending on if he’s spitting motivational phrases or ready to whoop some butt at the club.
But rest assured, every move of Mr. T.’s – ever since being discovered by Sylvester Stallone – has been calculated, whose presence and aura – despite being tied to one specific moment in time – remains unforgettable. And yet, we know so little about the man.

The 1980s were a true golden era for action movies, producing some of the most iconic, adrenaline-fueled movies in cinematic history. Larger-than-life characters came face-to-face with evil villains, in battles with high stakes and incredible settings. The action movies of this era pushed the boundaries of what was possible to achieve on screen, and have produced some of the most unforgettable and intense action scenes of all time.
From a tense dogfight in an F-14, to a fight with the Clown Prince of Crime, there is no denying the impact that these scenes have left on the genre. Whether it's a one-on-one fight, a massacre, or a chase scene, these moments pushed characters, and film-making, to their limits and kept viewers on the edge of their seats. These scenes not only defined their movies, but set the standard for action cinema to follow in the years after.

Toriyama's editor pushed for a Bulma/Goku romance early on, but Toriyama ultimately resisted the idea. Fans likely wouldn't have responded well to a romance between Goku and Bulma due to their character dynamics. A Goku/Bulma pairing would have altered the Dragon Ball series significantly, affecting characters like Trunks and Vegeta.
Bulma and Goku are two of the oldest and most important characters in Dragon Ball, dating back to the first chapters of the manga. As friends, they've been through an awful lot together, but was romance between the two ever in the cards? At least one figure associated with Dragon Ball's production thought so, and it could've changed everything.
When Bulma and Goku first meet, there's a relatively sizeable age gap between them--Bulma is already a teenager, while Goku is still a child. That would be enough for most people to discount the idea of romance between the two,...

Spy spoofs like Austin Powers and Kingsman brought humor and fun back to the genre, poking fun at Bond movie tropes. Archer and Johnny English offer comedic takes on arrogant spies, creating characters that are both silly and endearing. Spoofs like The Tuxedo, Oss 117, and Carry On Spying blend action and humor to create memorable parodies of the Bond franchise.
From Get Smart to the Austin Powers trilogy, there are a ton of hilarious movies and TV shows out there that parody the James Bond franchise. With their goofy one-liners, far-fetched gadgets, and nonsensical villain plans, the Bond movies are an easy target for parody. They even became a sort of self-parody during the Roger Moore years. A movie like Moonraker is so ridiculous on its own that its difficult to make fun of.

I love The A-Team (which we also covered on an episode of Gone But Not Forgotten). I grew up watching the series and had the toys, the Mr. T Cereal, the whole bit. I wasn’t unlike many of my Gen X brothers and sisters in that regard. It was fun, insane, action-packed, and Murdock was my guy.

Can the Rocky franchise ever be complete without ‘Mickey Loves You’? Well, actor Sylvester Stallone reportedly planned on wrapping up the sports drama franchise with Rocky III, wanting to finish up the character’s arc in a trilogy. After the worldwide success of the first film, Stallone hopped on the director’s chair for the sequels and planned a great ending.
Stallone was on the brink of giving up on his dreams when he wrote the screenplay for Rocky and sold it for a chance at starring in the sports drama. What was then a small-budget film became a worldwide phenomenon and the highest-grossing film of 1976. It spawned multiple sequels and a spinoff film centered on Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed’s son.

Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the short-lived animated series “Gravedale High” (aka “Rick Moranis in Gravedale High“), which aired on NBC in 1990.

The second season of AfterMASH bombed against The A-Team and lost in the ratings battle. The failure of AfterMASH marked the end of the Mash franchise spinoffs. Attempting to revive Mash would not work as the original had a unique impact on television.
The Mash franchise was killed off by the success of a major 1980s series - which was for the best. Much has been written about how big of an impact Mash had on television. Putting aside its great gags and ensemble cast, it took big creative swings, such as killing off Henry Blake during the third season. Killing off a major character was a big no-no during the 1970s, but not only did the medical sitcom take the risk - which received major backlash - but it went on to pioneer blending comedy with drama.

Australian beauty Kym Johnson waltzed her way onto the ballroom floor — and into viewers’ hearts — on Dancing With the Stars as a pro back in Season 3 of the dance reality competition series. Over the years, she competed in 15 seasons of the show, taking home the coveted Mirrorball trophy twice. Her first win was with Donny Osmond in Season 9; her bookend was earned with football player Hines Ward in Season 12. In Season 20, Johnson was paired with Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec. The two continued to tango off-screen and wed in 2016. Johnson Herjavec last competed on the show in Season 24 with Mr. T. Now, Johnson-Herjavec is taking on a new role in the Lifetime movie Hunting Housewives. She plays Joli Symons, a woman hoping to have a fun getaway with her girlfriends. After their small plane crashes in the wilderness, the women must use their skills — and what’s in their purses — to survive.

E.T. and Mr. T merge in an odd action figure, paying homage to a pair of '80s pop culture icons. Spielberg's E.T. & Mr. T were huge in 1982, with a strange pairing now unveiled. Spielberg scrapped a planned E.T. sequel, but Hollywood may revisit the idea given its insatiable craving for old IP to exploit.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Mr. T crossover in a bizarre action figure and art combo that pays homage to a pair of '80s icons. Mr. T made his first splash playing Clubber Lang in 1982’s hit sequel Rocky III. That same year, Steven Spielberg introduced audiences to one of cinema history’s most iconic non-human characters with his massive blockbuster film about a young boy’s strange and touching connection to a kindly visitor from outer space.

Following the journey of boxer Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky franchise stands as some of his most renowned work across his extensive career. After the success of the original 1976 film, the action star reprised his role in multiple films under the franchise, facing off various opponents in the boxing ring. The third film in the series featured Rocky Balboa going off against one of the most iconic adversaries of the franchise, Clubber Lang, portrayed by Mr. T.

At the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Usher soaked up the limelight as the Kansas City Chiefs became back-to-back champions with their overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.
And of course, the Super Bowl was again a venue for dozens of advertisers — who spent up to $7 million for a 30-second spot in CBS’s telecast — to try to break through on the noisiest night on TV. Many marketers used the time-tested tactic of deploying star-studded commercials, a phenomenon described by one ad exec as “a celebrity arms race.”

Some movie characters are so intertwined with the actors who play them that recasting them would be sacrilegious. Actors like Sylvester Stallone, Jim Carrey, and Audrey Hepburn have created iconic characters through their unique performances. Characters like Rocky Balboa, The Dude, and Holly Golightly would not work without the actors who brought them to life.
Some movie characters are so intrinsically linked to the people who play them that they only work because of their actors and to even think about recasting them would be sacrilegious. Sometimes a movie character is written with a particular actor in mind to play the part and they can be imbued with the performer's mannerisms, personality, and characteristics to such a point that the character no longer works if they are not playing the part. Often this is due to the actors writing the part for themselves, being an important aspect of their development,...

Sylvester Stallone paid tribute today to Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and died Thursday at 76.
In an emotional Instagram video post (watch it below), the three-time Oscar nominee recalled his longtime friend in a sometimes-quivering voice: “”My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. … He was magic, and I was fortunate to be part of his life. … Rest in power and keep punching.”
Standing in front of an abstract painting from their Rocky days in the ring, Stallone says in the video: “Hello, everyone. Today is an incredibly sad day for me. … Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life which he says everything about it. I give him incredible credit …. because when he walked into that room, and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t realize how great.

During its first three seasons on NBC, Stephen J. Cannell's "The A-Team" was one of the most popular shows on television. Critics dismissed it as mindless trash, but its 1983 premiere perfectly captured the gung-ho Reagan-era zeitgeist. The idea of a crack commando unit on the run from a government that did them dirty in the Vietnam War played to the country's bitterness over the mistreatment of veterans. Many Americans wanted to see the American military kick butt again, and what better way to scratch that itch than to build a series around a group of wrongly disgraced heroes?
The challenge for Cannell was satisfying his audience's bloodlust while observing the network's mandate that, due to its family-friendly 8 Pm timeslot, the good guys couldn't kill anybody. Could they fire off loads of cool-looking firearms or turn a bamboo into a bazooka? Absolutely! They just had to make sure their...

"Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen was the original choice for Rocky III's theme song, but it didn't fit the tone of the franchise. "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, the eventual choice, perfectly captures the motivational spirit of the movie. Queen's song couldn't be used due to failed negotiations, but this turned out to be a blessing as "Eye of the Tiger" became an iconic anthem for Rocky III.
Rocky III is best known for its use of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," but the filmmaker's original song choice would have totally ruined the movie. The sequel sees Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) face off against one of the most iconic opponents of the franchise, Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Much like Daniel Larusso went from underdog to All-Valley karate champion, "Cobra Kai" has gone from a legasequel no one asked for or had too much faith in, to one of Netflix's biggest hits. The TV sequel to "Karate Kid" became a shining beacon amidst the fast-decaying YouTube Red streaming platform, offering a thrilling, compelling, and endlessly watchable story with complex characters and a fascinating story of legacy, rivalry, and generational patterns. All of this wrapped in a juicy karate-themed soap opera where everything and everyone revolved around the martial art.
When the show made the jump to Netflix, it became the closest thing to a live-action anime that we've got. Somehow, just like the "John Wick" movies revealed that the entire planet revolves around hitmen, "Cobra Kai" does the same with karate. Gangs are formed around competing dojos, no one seems to call the cops even when houses...

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire ... the A-Team."
So ran the narration at the beginning of the title sequence for the 1983 TV series "The A-Team." The "if you can find them" part always elicited titters from certain younger viewers, as the A-Team's devotion to helping people out as soldiers of fortune clearly didn't extend to being easy to reach. The A-Team was composed of five members, including the leader Hannibal (George Peppard), the charming Templeton "Faceman" Peck (Dirk Benedict), the zany "Howling Mad" Murdoch (Dwight Schultz), and their black Gmc Vandura van.

"You're The Best" by Joe Esposito was originally written for Rocky III but ended up being the perfect fit for The Karate Kid. "Eye Of The Tiger" by Scorpions was chosen for Rocky III instead of "You're The Best" and became a huge hit associated with the franchise. One song from The Karate Kid was originally written for Rocky III, but it was replaced by the boxing franchise's biggest hit. There are a number of TV shows that are known to have spawned other series, but some of these produced more spinoffs than are remembered. Among the forgotten spinoffs in the annals of TV history are the Friends follow-up show Joey and Mr. T and Tina, an offshoot of Welcome Back, Kotter that didn't even have anything to do with the famous Mr. T. Like these examples, many deserve to have fallen into obscurity. However, when a hit series does wind up with a successful spinoff or two, such as Cheers and Law & Order, it's worth recalling when they had other side shows or sequels that didn't pan out.
Not all forgotten spinoffs were failures, though. Some of these TV shows simply spawned niche follow-ups and by-products that only diehard fans are familiar with. Other spinoffs are merely forgotten as having originated with another show because they took off...

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 22
For their 750th episode, The Simpsons pulls out all the stops, and adds a dangerous curve, but never quite gets in full gear. “Homer’s Adventures Through the Windshield Glass” is ambitious, cramming 750 characters into the opening sequence, jamming with Lizzo to the beat of a slap-happy Homer in the end, and spending the creamy middle somewhere between heaven and hell. It is a very creative episode, teasing a glimpse of paradise which turns into the purgatory of a lukewarm season finale which was cooked on all burners.
While couch gags can foretell mediocre episodes, the full opening sequence, complete with a chalkboard gag, is always a welcome sight. The cramming of all the Springfield residents, characters, and celebrity guests, is expertly layered. Even Homer’s crash through the garage reveals greater wonders as Fat Tony and Mr. T can be seen through the splinters.

When you watch a "Rocky" movie, it's easy to get swept up in the sweeping boxing matches. How could you not, when the Italian Stallion is up against larger-than-life opponents like Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), Clubber Lang (Mr. T), and Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren)? But while the fights are the main attraction, it's the moments in between that provide a greater emotional connection to the plight of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to succeed against incredible odds.
In the 1976 film, Rocky spends just as much time trying to woo Adrian (Talia Shire), the local pet store clerk, as he does on his actual training for the big bout. The emotional catharsis of the final scene doesn't see the celebration of a victory, but the conclusion to a complicated love story.

Rocky III saw Sylvester Stallone's titular character go up against Clubber Lang, though a real-life prominent 70s boxer almost played the latter. Clubber Lang is introduced as a vicious, hungry new boxer who challenges Rocky after accusing him of fighting easier opponents throughout his career. The character in the film was played by iconic action star Mr. T, which is a very different type of casting than what could have been.
Initially, the antagonistic boxer was intended to be played by someone else. This would have kickstarted the trend that was seen in the Creed films which saw real fighters like Tony Bellew playing the titular character's opponent. As revealed by Stallone, who will not return for Creed III, on his Instagram, Mr. T's casting was initially very different.
