Hayley Mills

Trivia

Hayley Mills

Edit
  • At the age of 16, she was offered the title role in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962) but her parents decided against it because they feared that the film's steamy subject matter might taint her wholesome image. The part went to Sue Lyon instead. In later years, Mills admitted that she regretted not taking the part.
  • Of the Oscar-winning father-daughter pairs, she and her father are one of two pairs (the other is Jane Fonda/Henry Fonda) where the daughter won an Academy award before the father did.
  • In the movie L'Espion aux pattes de velours (1965), her habit of biting her nails precluded her from using her own hands in close-ups. A studio worker, Tricia Blain, who just happened to be hanging around the set watching the filming was selected to serve as a double in those shots that required close-ups of the actress' hands.
  • Daughter of playwright Mary Hayley Bell and actor John Mills.
  • She and her sister Juliet Mills attended Elmhurst Ballet School. She was seen in a dance display by an agent resulting in her stage debut in "Alice in Wonderland".
  • Hayley Mills' godparents were Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier.
  • Her movie, Le dortoir des anges (1966), is the favorite of Elizabeth Smart, the Salt Lake City girl who was kidnapped from her bedroom in June 2002 and found alive on March 12, 2003. She watched the movie with her family the day she was found and reunited with them.
  • She had hit recordings, on both sides of The Atlantic, with "Let's Get Together" (1961), which she performed in the film La fiancée de Papa (1961), and "Johnny Jingo" (1962).
  • Sister of Juliet Mills and Jonathan Mills.
  • Sister-in-law of actor Maxwell Caulfield.
  • Hayley starred in the 1961 film "Whistle Down the Wind," adapted from the novel of the same title by Hayley's mother Mary Hayley Bell. The movie was later remade as a stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
  • She is connected to actor Ian Ogilvy by way of her father, Sir John Mills. Sir John's first wife, actress Aileen Raymond, divorced him in 1940, remarried and in 1943 gave birth to Ian (three years before Hayley was born).
  • Her son, with Roy Boulting, is Crispian Mills, lead singer of Kula Shaker. Signed with Sony; their second single went straight to number 2 in UK charts. He is now part of "The Jeevas".
  • Her second son, Jason, was born of her relationship with actor Leigh Lawson on 30 July 1976, before she divorced Boulting.
  • Chaged her name to Lawson by deed poll,.
  • Hayley's son Jason Lawson is the stepson of model/actress Twiggy, who is married to Jason's father, actor Leigh Lawson.
  • Her first name Hayley is also her mother's middle name.
  • On the 1st of January 2008, whilst presenting his show on TalkSport Celebrity, MP George Galloway announced that she was his first love.
  • Mentioned in the song "Goodbye Lucille #1", by Paddy McAloon (aka Prefab Sprout).
  • Aunt of Sean and actress Melissa Caulfield.
  • Invited to join AMPAS in 2006.
  • Ex-sister-in-law of John Boulting and Peter Cotes.
  • Niece of Annette Mills.
  • Effervescent smile.
