Julia Butters Takes on the A-List — Again
Image
When Julia Butters landed her first big role — a scene-stealing turn opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — she wasn’t even allowed to watch the whole movie. Her parents let her walk the red carpet at the premiere but whisked her out of the theater long before the flamethrowers came out. “They didn’t want to traumatize a 9-year-old,” she says. “But that carpet was insane — I mean, girl, Britney Spears was there — and I have yet to top that.”

Age appropriateness isn’t a problem in Butters’ latest project. The actress, now 16, stars in Freakier Friday, Disney’s long-awaited sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy. In this updated and slightly more convoluted version, Lindsay Lohan’s character, Anna, is now a mom herself — and it’s her teenage daughter, Harper, played by Butters, who ends up switching bodies with her. Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess,...

M. Night Shyamalan's most controversial thriller is leaving Netflix this June
Image
Say it ain't so! Netflix has unveiled its complete lineup of shows and movies coming and leaving its platform in June 2025, and guess what film made the departure list? M. Night Shyamalan's Trap. With this movie not being a Netflix original and instead licensed for a limited time, it’s no surprise it’s heading off the platform. However, we just aren't ready to say goodbye to this suspenseful thriller so soon.

Netflix just added Trap to its library mid-March with the exact release date being March 11, 2025. The streaming giant has now set the film's departure date for Wednesday, June 11, 2025. That means Netflix only had the rights to stream the film for a three-month window, which is pretty short if you ask me. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it except make sure to watch the movie or rewatch it before it disappears. Who knows if it'll ever...

Charlize Theron’s Dark Past: How A Tragic Death-Fueled Night Shaped The Resilient Hollywood Star’s Life
Image
Revisiting The Darkest Night Of Charlize Theron’s Teen Years! (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Charlize Theron is Tinseltown’s symbol of glitz, grace, and unfiltered skill. The tall, golden-haired stunner with the defined chin, captivating admirers one gala at a time. She’s appeared on screen in hits like The Italian Job and Reindeer Games, but it was her gutsy portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in Monster that landed her on the Academy’s radar.

Yet what many don’t realize about this South African beauty isn’t tucked in her glittering reel. It’s the story of her early years, a real-life epic that rivals any cinematic plotline. Let’s rewind to 1991, when Charlize was only 15. She was living in a peaceful South African hamlet, a place where mayhem was waiting in the shadows.

Her parents, Gerda and Charles Theron, were stuck in a volatile union. Charles, a heavy drinker, had...

When Hayley Mills Lost Her Disney Millions Overnight—The 91% Tax Blow That Changed Everything
Image
Hayley Mills Faced Devastating Disney Fortune Loss (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Hayley Mills once had a $17 million Disney fortune tucked away. Then, overnight, it vanished, thanks to a brutal 91% tax rate that left her stunned and scrambling. In her memoir Forever Young, Mills opened up about how her childhood success turned into financial heartbreak.

At just 14, Mills became a household name after playing the mischievous twins Susan and Sharon in The Parent Trap (1961). She also bagged a now-defunct Juvenile Oscar for Pollyanna. Her star only rose from there, lighting up films like Tiger Bay (1959), Whistle Down the Wind (1961), In Search of the Castaways (1962), and That Darn Cat! (1965).

By the time she turned 21, Mills had built up an impressive trust from years of Disney magic. But when she went to claim it, she received a financial horror story instead. According to her memoir, her lawyer Stanley Passmore broke the news (via Cheat Sheet): “Well,...

The Wheel of Time boss promises we'll see Siuan Sanche again "if the show continues"
Image
This article contains Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3 Episode 8.

Grief is a journey, and for many Wheel of Time fans, we'll be on it for a while. The season 3 finale of Prime Video's fantasy series dropped this week, and it leaned fully into the darker parts of this sweeping tale. Nowhere was that more apparent than at the White Tower of the Aes Sedai, where the scheming Red Ajah sorceress Elaida (Shohreh Aghdashloo) led a coup against Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo). Elaida succeeds in her attempt to usurp the Amyrlin Seat, leading to Siuan being deposed, stilled, tortured, and executed. It was perhaps the most brutal death we've seen yet in the series, and many fans are deep in their feelings about it.

This is even more the case because in the book series, Siuan Sanche survives the White Tower coup. The show, however, leaves very little room for confusion.

Josh Hartnett's New Action Movie Earns the Rotten Tomatoes Score 'Trap' Deserved
Image
Josh Hartnett is back witha new banger after Trap, and critics love every bit of it. From director James Madigan,Fight or Flight has landed a laudable 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes following its U.K. debut last month; however, the audience score is unavailable at the time of this writing. Even so, the reviews from top critics so far put the movie in a good light, one of which is from Empire Magazine’s John Nugent, who states:

“A solid bit of high-concept B-movie fun, establishing Josh Hartnett as a credible action hero, and James Madigan as a genre director to watch.”

Fight or Flight premiered on Sky Cinema on Friday, February 28 but is set to arrive in the U.S. later in May. It follows Hartnett as a former Secret Service agent who’s been on the run for years and when he’s given the job of...

How ‘Snow White’ earned Walt Disney the most unique Oscar ever — and why the Academy will probably never do that again
Image
Walt Disney didn’t just make animation history — he made Academy Award history. To this day, Disney still holds many Academy Awards records, including the most competitive Oscars (a whopping 22) and the most Oscars overall (a monumental 26). This record includes myriad Oscars for Best Short Subject (Cartoon) for such animated shorts as "Flowers and Trees" (1932), "The Three Little Pigs" (1933), "The Ugly Duckling" (1939), and "Der Fuehrer’s Face" (1942), and a set of honorary Oscars, including one for the creation of Mickey Mouse (1932), the use of sound in Fantasia (1942), and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in (1942). However, it was at the 11th Academy Awards in 1939 when Disney was bestowed the most unique Oscar in history.

At the ceremony on Feb. 23, 1939, Disney was given an honorary Academy Award for his first feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). By definition, honorary awards have always been special, but Disney’s was particularly unique.

10 Best Movies Set In Maine, Ranked
Image
Most filmgoers recognize big cities like Miami, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles in their favorite motion pictures. Sure enough, those locals provide the backdrop to several classic pictures from Michael Bay's "Bad Boys" to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "King Kong" and Michael Mann's "Heat."  However, another prominent locale exists in the film world, a place you've likely seen more often than not, even if it didn't immediately stand out. We're talking, of course, about the state of Maine.

Uniquely, many stories take place in the Pine Tree State. Its lush scenery and coastal views make for stunning cinematography, while the colder elements provide the necessary bleakness for heavier dramas. Here, family friendly fare like "Casper" and "Pete's Dragon" took flight, while more intense films such as the alligator thriller "Lake Placid" and the Stephen King horror tale "Pet Sematary" found unique ways to scare the bejesus out of audiences.

The Academy Gave Walt Disney The Most Unique Oscars Trophy In History
Image
The Academy Awards may not always possess the best track record of commemorating the best films of any given year, but there's no doubt that winning an Oscar is a big deal. It's essentially a canonization in the annals of film history that provides insight into the cultural sphere at the time. But while tastes have certainly changed since the ceremony's inaugural banquet in 1929, most award recipients have received the same golden statue that just about everyone is familiar with.

The Oscar, weighing 8 ½ pounds and standing 13 ½ inches tall, has largely stuck to the design of a sword-wielding knight. According to The Academy, the gold-plated bronze bastion of cinematic excellence settles atop a reel of film, with each spoke representing the institution's five original branches. Its form is the result of MGM art director Cedric Gibbons and LA sculptor George Stanley. The award's simplicity is only matched by its iconographic symbol...

Peter Engel, ‘Saved by the Bell’ Producer, Dies at 88
Image
Peter Engel, who executive produced Saved by the Bell and a host of other teen sitcoms for NBC, died Tuesday at his home in Santa Monica, his son Stephen David Engel announced. He was 88.

The show that became Saved by the Bell began life as Good Morning, Miss Bliss on Disney Channel. The series at the time focused on Hayley Mills, who played the title character, and her students at an Indianapolis junior high school. That show lasted only one season, but after a retooling (and change in setting to Southern California), the NBC-produced show was relaunched as Saved by the Bell and became both a staple of NBC’s Saturday lineup from 1989-93 and a touchstone show for Gen X and millennial viewers.

The show helped launch the careers of its young cast — Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Dustin Diamond and Lark Voorhies — and spawned a...

Image
Peter Engel, who executive produced Saved by the Bell, its spinoffs and 2020 reboot, Last Comic Standing and many other series, died Tuesday at his Santa Monica home. He was 88. His family confirmed the news to Deadline but did not provide a cause of death.

He also wrote more than 100 episodes of City Guys, nearly as many of USA High and 50-plus for Malibu CA.

10 Best Movie Performances By One Actor Playing Twins
Image
Ever since the invention of splicing and clever camera trickery, there have been instances of utilizing the same actor to portray a set of twins in film. Some talented twins have played the roles individually, notably Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Tia and Tamera Mowry. However, sometimes, it's even more exciting when the roles are played by just one person. This allows the actor to showcase their varied abilities and gives audiences an extra layer of excitement as they try and figure out just how the directors were able to pull off the switch.

What's also interesting is that, quite often, these two twins represent very different types of people. Whether one is more creative and the other more logical, one very privileged and the other having to face more disadvantages, or even one good, one evil, there are countless tropes that get to be explored. Films with twins played...

The Oscars Need To Bring Back An Award Last Given To A 14 Year Old 64 Years Ago
Image
The Oscars stopped giving out a specific kind of award 64 years ago, but the idea behind the Honorary Academy Award could be tweaked to reflect an often overlooked kind of performer. Over the course of 97 years, the Academy Awards have shifted and changed with the times. This meant some categories have been added to the ceremony, while others have been changed. Some potential Oscar categories (like stunts) have been suggested to be included in future Academy Award ceremonies, broadening the chances for a larger variety of films and performances to be celebrated by the Academy in the future.

The history of the Oscars includes unique categories, including informal ones like the Juvenile Academy Awards. An idea that actually predates major categories like Best Supporting Actor and Actress, those Honorary Awards were a chance for the Oscars to celebrate young performers who didn't stand much of a chance to win the major awards.

'Fight or Flight' First-Look Reveals Blond Josh Hartnett in 'Meg' Director's New Movie
Image
Millennials are getting quite the gift with the current Josh Hartnett renaissance. The star's boyish face could have graced any cover of "Non-Threatening Boys" monthly back in the late '90s. After a nice run of movies in the last few years, Hartnett is leading a new action comedy Fight or Flight, the latest movie from Meg director James Madigan. While Hartnett has not often changed his appearance too much in the past, this time around he has certainly switched things up in a surprising way. Collider got the first-look pictures from the film for Britain's Sky Cinema, and the actor's blond locks and brown beard are a far departure from his wholesome boy-next-door turned dad-next-door look.

Not many details about the film have emerged, even though the movie is set for release in the next few months, but according to the logline, Hartnett plays a mercenary sent to track...

Parent Traps Lindsay Lohan Was Asked by Disney CEO About Her "Twin"
Image
Apparently, Lindsay Lohans acting was so good that Michael Eisner was fooled into thinking she had a twin sister on the set of 1998s The Parent Trap. Lohan portrayed twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in the romantic comedy. And at the films premiere almost 30 years ago, the then CEO of Disney actually asked Lohan where her sister was when they bumped into one another. Lohan recalled surprisingly responding to Eisner when she was only 12 years old while appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Lohan said:

"I was so young, I dont even know how I thought to say this, but Ill never forget what I said. I said, Well you shouldve paid me double, because I dont have one."

The Parent Trap was Lohans first feature film, which came on the heels of the child actress performing in a number of commercials and appearing on the...

This Shocking Theory Connects Trap To 3 Other M. Night Shyamalan Movies (& Answers A Big Question)
Image
M. Night Shyamalans Trap stood out for revealing its villain's identity right away and not having a big twist, but to make it feel more like a Shyamalan movie, a theory links it to three previous movies while answering a big question. M. Night Shyamalans horror movies and thrillers have become known for having plot twists and big reveals. It all started with The Sixth Sense in 1999, and since then, most of his movies have had big twists, though not all of them had the desired effect. Trap was expected to follow this, but its twist was that it didnt have one.

Trap follows Copper (Josh Hartnett), who takes his teenage daughter, Riley, to the concert of pop star Lady Raven (Saleka Night Shyamalan). At the venue, Cooper notices theres an unusually high police presence and security filters, and he learns the whole concert is a trap to catch a...

M. Night Shyamalan's Twisty Serial Killer Movie Takes Over Max's Number One Spot
Image
M. Night Shyamalan has had one of the most fascinating careers in Hollywood history. Since falling from grace in the late 2000s, he's gone back to smaller budgets and more contained movies, in the process delivering one banger after another. From the critical and financial success of "Split," to the absolutely wild concept of "Old," Shyamalan has been on a roll in recent years. His latest film, "Trap," is a messy tale of two movies, as /Film's own Jeremy Mathai wrote in his review. One half is a nail-biting, tense thriller about a serial killer trapped at a concert with some rather catchy songs. The other is an increasingly silly, yet still thrilling cat-and-mouse game that changes the protagonist from Josh Hartnett's killer to Saleka Shyamalan's world-famous pop star, Lady Raven.

While "Trap" was only a modest box office success — mostly due to "Deadpool & Wolverine" being the...

5 Singers That Inspired Trap's Lady Raven
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Trap.

Salkea Shyamalan was inspired by several real-life singers when creating her pop star character Lady Raven in M. Night Shyamalan's 2024 thriller Trap. Josh Hartnett stars as a serial killer disguised as a supportive father in Trap. Trap also features the feature film debut of Shyamalan's daughter Saleka as pop singer Lady Raven, who plays a major role in the cast of Trap. Saleka's Lady Raven sings and performs throughout Trap at a concert venue where Hartnett's Cooper is being set up. Most of the original music in Trap was made specifically by Saleka under her fictional pop star name Lady Raven.

Trap features several real-life singers and rappers such as Kid Cudi, Amaarae, and Russ. Born in 1996, Saleka made her feature film acting debut in Trap. Her character, Lady Raven, is essentially a fictionalized version of her real-life stage name, Saleka, as a singer and recording artist.

In recent years, M. Night Shyamalan has traded big twists for big concepts. Or, he's found a healthier balance between the two. Ever since the iconic "I see dead people" in his breakthrough film, The Sixth Sense, there has been an ongoing expectation for Shyamalan to end his films with something that makes you second guess your entire viewing experience. For the most part, he has delivered, with films like Signs, The Visit, and even the recent Knock at the Cabin providing consistent shocks in their final scenes.

However, Shyamalan's most recent film, Trap, starring Josh Hartnett as a sinister father figure who attends a pop concert with his daughter, did not quite live up to the hype. In fact, Trap does not have a plot twist at all. It has a few curves, but nothing that lives up to that pre-existing Shyamalan standard. So what happens in Trap, and why don't the "twists" feel like twists compared to his other projects?...

M. Night Shyamalan's Trap Receives a Streaming Release Date on Max
M. Night Shyamalan in Le dernier maître de l'air (2010)
The latest film by director M. Night Shyamalan, Trap, has finally received its streaming premiere date. These days, it isn't easy to find exactly what streaming service a movie will be on and when it will be available. In this case, Trap is coming to the Max streaming service, and it's available sooner than one might think. The film debuted in theaters on August 2, but it will now arrive on Max this October 25, just in time for Halloween.

Many Shyamalan films have a horror tinge, and Trap isn't any different. While not an outright member of the genre, Trap follows a serial killer who is trapped inside a concert with his daughter due to a heavy police presence surrounding the building meant to catch him. The film is loosely based on 1985's Operation Flagship, a real-life event where police arrested over 100 fugitives after luring them to a football stadium under the guise of free tickets.

M. Night Shyamalan's Tarantino-Approved Movie Lands New Streaming Home
Image
M. Night Shyamalans 2000 feature Unbreakable will hit Hulu Oct. 1, and its got legendary director Quentin Tarantinos seal of approval. Previously speaking about the film in a YouTube video, Tarantino said, It not only has Bruce Willis best performance on film that hes ever given, but it also is a brilliant retelling of the Superman Mythology.

Arguably considered Shyamalans best film, Unbreakable is a new take on a superhero origin story. Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard, who survives a terrifying train accident. Over time, he comes to realize he has superhuman strengths and abilities, including never getting sick. Samuel L. Jackson co-stars as Elijah Prince, as Davids mentor. Jacksons character has a severe type of osteoporosis, was sheltered as a child because of it, and often suffers from broken bones.

In August, Shyamalan told GQ the studio wanted to promote Unbreakable as a horror-thriller when, in fact, it was really a comic book movie.

Did M. Night Shyamalan Cast an Important Role in ‘Trap’ Just to Make a Corny Joke?
Image
After doing battle with Michael Myers, alien Jon Stewart and the concept of not having sex for just over a month, Josh Hartnett’s latest role finds him struggling against the confines of a pop-music concert. In M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, Hartnett plays a serial killer known as “The Butcher” who takes his daughter to a “Lady Raven” show, only to discover that the entire event is part of a police ploy to snare him.

Now that the movie is available on VOD, more people are discovering that the movie is actually quite funny — and also deeply relatable for any parent who’s ever taken their kid to a concert only to severely embarrass them.

In addition to the objectively ridiculous plot line, the movie does feature some overtly comic scenes, including a brief tension-cutting moment in which Kid Cudi’s flamboyant rapper character “The Thinker” pauses to make...

Is ‘Trap’ Based on a True Story?
Image
Is the plot of “Trap” too crazy to be true? Apparently not.

The upcoming horror movie follows “father (Josh Hartnett) and teen daughter (Ariel Donoghue) attending a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”

The twist? the girls father Cooper has a secret, he is a serial killer known as the Butcher. The second twist? They aren’t just there to see pop star Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan). The concert is actually an elaborate trap that the authorities have put in place to catch him.

So where did filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan come up with such a wild story idea?

Shyamalan revealed that the plot was actually inspired by a real life event — Operation Flagship.

In 1985, over 3,000 fugitives wanted by the authorities for various criminal offensives were sent “invitations” for free Redskins – Bengals’ football tickets in the mail.

The “winners...

This Classic Hollywood Multi-Hyphenate Set Her Sights On Gilligan's Island
Image
Sci-fi legend Jack Arnold directed a majority of "Gilligan's Island," with plenty of prolific names like John Rich, Leslie Goodwins, and even "Superman" director Richard Donner all steering multiple episodes.

The origin of "Gilligan's Island" is a fascinating story already, with creator Sherwood Schwartz allegedly singing the theme song to a gas station attendant to see if the show sounded like something the average person would watch, but just as interesting is how groundbreaking the show was behind the camera.

Namely, by inviting decorated actress and history-making director Ida Lupino to helm a few episodes.

Although Rod Amateau is credited as directing the pilot for the series, CBS comedy show supervisor Sol Saks was quoted as claiming in William Donati's "Ida Lupino: A Biography," that Lupino had been brought in to help shape a struggling show. "It was 'Gilligan's Island,'" Saks said. "It wasn't even on the air yet.

Trap
Image
Somewhere deep inside Trap there’s a good movie bound, gagged and struggling to get out. It might be a grim comedy with something satirical to say about fandoms, drawing the line between the icky fascination with serial killers and shrieky pop idolatry. It could be something straighter and darker; a taut single-location claustro-thriller. Or it might even be closer to a heyday M. Night Shyamalan joint, which takes pride in a good ol’ fashioned rug-pull. But whatever it might be, that good movie never breaks free. Instead, we have an oddly inert wannabe nail-biter that diffuses much of the tension it might have mustered from its neat if improbable premise through a hokily mounted mix of cringe and perplexity.

Much of that cringe arises from Shyamalan’s nepo-tastic decision to cast his daughter Saleka as a Taylor Swift-level popstrel who behaves, and is treated by all, as a...

Trap Review
M. Night Shyamalan in Le dernier maître de l'air (2010)
Master of suspense M. Night Shyamalan returns with Trap, a psychological thriller blending his signature tension with a complex, twisting plot. The film follows Cooper Adams (Josh Hartnett), a seemingly ordinary father, who takes his teenage daughter, Riley (Ariel Donoghue), to a pop concert as a reward for her academic achievements.

What begins as a fun and innocent night out quickly descends into chaos when Cooper’s dark secret is exposed— he’s actually the infamous serial killer known as “the Butcher.” This revelation sets the stage for a nerve-wracking game of cat and mouse that unfolds in the most extraordinary ways.

Shyamalan expertly crafts a claustrophobic atmosphere that mirrors Cooper’s psychological unravelling. Cooper must navigate a sea of FBI agents, led by the determined Dr. Josephine Grant (Hollywood legend Hayley Mills), and unsuspecting concertgoers, all while maintaining his façade as a loving, caring father.

While laden with clichés and contrived elements,...

M. Night Shyamalan Reveals the Post-Credit Scene Wasn't Scripted
Image
Warning: The Following Contains Major Spoilers for Trap

M. Night Shyamalan is back in the spotlight once more thanks to his latest release, Trap, and while John Hartnett manages to do a good job commanding almost every scene hes in, theres one moment in particular that wasnt in the original script: the mid-credit sequence that featured Jonathan Langdons Jamie, the concert worker Hartnett was seen interacting with earlier in the movie.

Per Gizmodo, Shyamalan says the addition of the mid-credit scene was an afterthought, added to send the audience home with a laugh. In the sequence, we see Jamie watching the news, realizing that the man hed been talking with during the concert was actually The Butcher that the police were attempting to catch. It managed to tie up a small loose end in the film, instead of leaving audiences wondering what Jamie would be thinking after discovering that he was almost another victim.

Trap's Post-Credits Scene Wasn't In The Script Originally
Image
Trap's post-credit scene was a spontaneous addition. The scene tied up loose ends instead of setting up a sequel. Shyamalan rarely includes post-credit scenes in his films.

Director M. Night Shyamalan explains how he included the post-credit scene in his latest psychological thriller Trap. Starring Josh Harntett, Saleka Shyamalan, Ariel Donoghue, Alison Pill, and Hayley Mills, Trap follows Harntetts character, Cooper Adams, a man who leads a double life as a family man and as a serial killer known as The Butcher. In the usual Shyamalan style, the movie contains several plot twists, but the director also tacked on a post-credits scene.

Now, according to Gizmodo, Shyamalan, discussing his recently released thriller, revealed that the surprise post-credit scene was not in the original plans for the movie. He added that it was an impromptu decision to add the scene, and everything eventually worked out. Read his full quote below:

That wasnt in the script.

‘Trap’ 2024 Ending Explained & Movie Recap: Did Cooper Escape? Will There Be A Sequel?
Image
Whether you like him or hate him, you can’t ignore M. Night Shyamalan. Yeah, it’s certainly a cliched thing to say, but wouldn’t you agree that this man is a force of nature? Naturally, everything he does, good or bad, automatically becomes an event. Of course, his bad outweighs the good in recent times, but his latest, Trap, did seem like a winner ever since the trailer dropped. The whole premise of a concert masquerading as a trap for a serial killer is cool as hell, even if it sounds quite ludicrous. Shyamalan is famous for coming up with ideas like this, and in Trap, he has almost pulled it off. The first half is so good that it almost makes you forget all the terrible things he’s been putting out for the past decade or so. But then the inevitable happens, and we end up in Shyama-land,...
