"I think a lot of places in my life it’s been kind of figuring out what’s right and what’s wrong and it feels natural for me to portray Mabel in that manner of just trying to figure out where she fits in,” Gomez said at the Television Academy’s Televerse festival on Saturday, where she opened up about her connection to her character.

The penultimate episode drew 4.6M viewers in the three days since it debuted on HBO on Sunday, setting another series record, per Warner Bros. Discovery. This is now the fourth consecutive week that the third season has managed a new series high audience.

Ahead of Sunday’s finale, the show is apparently drawing in new viewers at a record pace. The company says that The Gilded Age is currently adding viewers at a rate nearly 50% higher than in previous seasons.

Of course, newcomers are playing catch up, so much of this viewership is actually boosting the previous seasons, too. Wbd says that Season 1 viewership was up approximately 30% last week compared to the same week leading into last season’s Episode 7.

This bodes incredibly well for the show’s fourth season, as it has already received a renewal from HBO.

For a number of viewers, The Gilded Age looked — or rather, sounded — a little different last night.

According to some social media users, the latest episode of the Emmy-winning HBO period drama debuted on streamer HBO Max with an accidental language swap that automatically played the episode in Spanish despite being on the English-language setting.

“. @hbomax The Gilded Age is currently only playing in Spanish on my app and I cannot follow what is happening to Señora Russell. Help! Ayuda!” wrote The Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon in one viral post.

The glitch, as some quickly figured out, was easily resolved by tooling with the platform’s settings — ironically, by changing the audio to “Spanish (Latin America)” for the English version. Deadline confirmed that the issue has since been resolved.

The seventh episode of The Gilded Age‘s third season, titled “Ex-Communicated,” literally ended with a bang. Somebody shot George Russell. Or at him. Viewers aren’t sure, as we saw a bullet headed for George and then the screen went black.

The Gilded Age executive producer and director Salli Richardson-Whitfield, who helmed this episode and the finale, is not giving up those goods to The Hollywood Reporter. But she does speak on other pivotal developments, and there are quite a few.

Stephen Colbert will return to late-night television this fall, but as a fictional host instead of himself: CBS confirmed that the comedian will appear in season three of its crime comedy Elsbeth, portraying Scotty Bristol, the sardonic anchor of the in-universe program Way Late with Scotty Bristol.

Filmed in New York last week, the episode is slated to air in October, only days after the series’ 12 October premiere, and adds another marquee guest to a show that has already enlisted Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.

Colbert’s route to the case-of-the-week began during a February segment of The Late Show with Elsbeth star Wendell Pierce, when he joked about wanting to play a corpse on a procedural; Pierce vowed to “make it happen,” and producers upgraded the gag to a speaking role within days.

After it was revealed that CBS canceled the comedian’s long-running late night talk show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, The Hollywood Reporter learned on Sunday that Colbert has landed another hosting gig on a separate CBS show.

Colbert is set to make a guest appearance on an upcoming season three episode of the crime comedy Elsbeth, which returns Oct. 12. Vulture reported that Colbert will play the host of a fictional late night talk show called Way Late With Scotty Bristol.

Elsbeth, starring Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson, is a murder-of-the-week show. It follows astute but unconventional attorney Elsbeth Tascioni (Preston), who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.

Colbert’s episode was filmed this week; however, his guest appearance has been months in the making.

The “Late Show” helmsman will guest star in an upcoming episode of the crime comedy series “Elsbeth,” appearing as a late-night frontman, Variety has confirmed.

A CBS rep declined Variety‘s request for comment.

While it’s unknown how Colbert will fit into the weekly mystery, the details of his role have been made public. He will play the leading man of the fictional late-night talk show “Way Late with Scotty Bristol,” according to Vulture, which first reported Colbert’s involvement.

While the episode was filmed this week, Colbert’s “Elsbeth” role has long been in the works, kick-started by an appearance from series star Wendell Pierce on “The Late Show.”

How is this for an ironic twist — as Stephen Colbert is preparing to say goodbye as the host of CBS’ The Late Show, he also is portraying a late-night host for CBS with a guest role on the upcoming third season of the network’s crime anthology Elsbeth, Deadline has confirmed.

Colbert is not playing himself in the episode, which filmed this week. According to Vulture, which first reported the news, he plays the host of the fictional Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Each episode of Elsbeth solves a different murder; it is unclear how Bristol is connected to that case of the week.

A rep for CBS declined comment.

Primetime series take months of lead time from conceiving an episode to its filming, so Elsbeth’s late-night storyline had been in the works long before CBS announced two and a half weeks ago that The Late Show will be ending next May.

The Gilded Age‘s hot summer run continues. Julian Fellowes’ HBO period drama, which gives the Downton Abbey treatment to New York of the Gilded Age, kept its streak of ratings records going with Episode 6 setting another series high. It has tallied 4.5 million U.S. cross-platform viewers in its first 3 days of availability.

That marks the 3rd consecutive week of new viewership records for The Gilded Age, which is now in the same ratings league as some of HBO’s biggest hits, like The White Lotus and The Last Of Us.

HBO’s critically acclaimed, juicy period drama The Gilded Age has officially been renewed for season four. The announcement was made with two episodes left to air of season three.

The Emmy-nominated HBO Original drama series The Gilded Age has been renewed for a fourth season. From creator Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), the series has achieved praise for its ensemble cast, costume design, and Emmy-winning production design.

The season three finale will air on Sunday, August 10 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt), and all episodes are available to stream on HBO Max.

HBO says that total premiere-night viewing for the third season has grown for five consecutive weeks, culminating in a 20 percent growth compared to last season. Fan engagement has also climbed, with social chatter rising nearly 60 percent week over week.

In its two eligible seasons, The Gilded Age has earned seven total Emmy nominations and one Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.”
